  1. "No, I don't get it"
That proves my theory that she isn't like Dexter. She has no dark voice inside her that forces her to kill. She kills because she likes it. For her own benefit.
The question now is: Can she stop?

  2. Dexter kills because he likes it, for his own benefit. Like an alcoholic or a drug addict, that desire or urge is so overwhelming (and hard to resist) but to say Dexter has no choice whereas Hannah, Isaak, even Trinity have a "choice" and can stop is ridiculous.

Not having a go at you, but a lot of people online post as if Dexter exclusively has no choice, like his limbs are on autopilot. I think people take the insanity/psychopath (legal) "defense" way too literal and because the courts excuse it, then they are devoid of any culpability (morally). If you look at a large proportions of serial killers (rather than those that murder "in the moment" or in a "rage" - i.e. those that are methodical and plan it out) I think you would find quite a lot of them are sociopaths.

Anyway, it's a pet peeve of mine, that there is a difference between those that "like to kill" and "need to kill". Same thing.

  3. She doesn't kill because she likes it. She already said that she doesn't like it but she kills for survival... so basically if somebody gets in her way - she'll kill them. "Survival of the fittest."

  4. Just a very random theory... since throughout the seasons Dexter has been discovering that he's actually a lot more human than Harry had brought him up to believe.. Maybe Hannah was brought in to be the key for the peak of that discovery. Like what they're discussing in the clip, maybe Dexter does soon finally gain some 'control' but by the time he realizes that and feels human and free from the chains of his passenger, Laguerta + Matthews bust his ass. IDK just a random train of thought.

  5. 0:18 Michael C Hall blowing into the mic. :p I hope they fix that!

  6. Dex and Trinity are different form Hannah and Isaak.

Dexter had these urge since he was a kid. He was, what 7-8 years old, when he started torturing and killing animals. Remember S1. I think, it was the pilot, when Harry told the kid Dex that he found the dead animals. And he tried to stop. Several times. And although he enjoys his killings (no way in denying that) he never kills for his own benefit (like money or competition).

"as if Dexter exclusively has no choice" Well, of course it's not that simple. True, that Dex has these urge to kill he can't fight (he can try, but not for long. And it never ends good). But he isn't the only one. His brother had it. And Trinity. None of them could ever stop killing. Or Lumen. Well, she actually did stop (as far we know), but she couldn't fight it either. She couldn't find her peace until those men were dead. She wouldn't be able to stop until all of them were dead.

And here is where Hannah and Issak (and Lila and Miquel) have a choice. Isaak was killing for money (it was business). Well, the case with Victor was different, cause he was driven by rage and revenge. And Hannah kills for her own benefit, not because she can't fight the urge or because she has to revenge herself or protect someone. She killed her husband, because she didn't want him to leave (if we believe her story), she killed this old lady to get her money and the house and she killed Price to prevent him from publishing his book (and if you now want to say that with that she was actually defending her and Dex, remember: Dex told her to leave Price to him, that he would take care of it).

I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure that he couldn't use him being a sociopath as a legal defense. Maybe in Trinitys case, if he would have killed him AFTER Trinity killed Rita (means after he found out he killed Rita). Or maybe with Brian, cause he tried to kill Deb. But even as sociopath (and we now he is not a complete sociopath – he loves and cares. Real sociopaths don't feel anything for anybody) he knows the difference between right and wrong. And as you said it, there is a difference if you kill in affect or if you plan it.

"Like to kill" and "need to kill" I wouldn't say it's the same. Some people (even if they enjoy the kill) can't fight the urge to kill. Like Dex. You saw what he is like if he goes too long without a kill. Or Brian. Hannah or Lila wouldn't need to kill. For them it's just the easiest way to get what they want. Or to solve the problem. They didn't need to kill, but they did it and enjoyed it.

  7. You serious? If she "doesn't like to kill" than she shouldn't do it. And, no offense, but I'm not buying that "kill to survive" either. Maybe with her boyfriend, when she stabbed that woman all these years ago. Yes, in that case I'd bought it. Well, we don't know exactly what happened. Maybe she killed, because he forced her to do it and she was afraid that he would kill her, if she doesn't do it (or if she tries to run away). Or maybe she liked it and he didn't need to force her into doing anything.

But her other kills … I don't see how she "had" to kill her husband to protect herself. Let's say, I believe the story that she wanted the baby and he didn't. So let this asshole go! It's not the Middle Ages anymore. A woman can raise a child by her own. And no one will put her into prison or hang her for having a child but no husband. And he would have to pay for the baby, so she didn't have to be afraid to live under a bridge and feed form dumpsters. Although I hate those kind of guys too. Fucking and then not taking responsibility? How old was he? 16? 17? I'd probably kill him too. But I wouldn't say it's a kill for survival.

And the old lady? As far as I understood it, she killed her and inherited her money and the house (the business). She didn't need any of it to survive or protect herself. It was just the easiest way to get what she wanted. Imagine everybody would kill for a bonus or promotion. And Hannah didn't even have competition (as in "survival of the fittest").

Well, when she killed Price she actually did believe that she was protecting her and Dex. But the kill wasn't the only way, it was just the easiest way. She could have hired a lawyer to prevent this book to be published. I'm not a lawyer, but I think that, if he wants to write a book about her (and her life) he needs her permission to publish it. The publishing house would never publish this book without Hannahs signed permission, cause they wouldn't risk her suing them. And I don't know how good his evidence were (if they would stand at court) but she could argue that he has no real prove (otherwise he would give it to police and she would be in prison) and is making things up that would ruin her life just he could make money. Or she could break in and destroy his files, like Dex did. Besides: Dexter told her to let it go. To leave Price to him, that he would handle him. And he did. He prepared everything.

  8. Her husband wanted her baby dead... and sounded like other huge marriage issues. Better question is why did she marry the guy. No, she doesn't kill because she "likes" too unless you are using an extremely general definition of "like."

  9. Just for the record... Have you ever read "the unauthorized biography of..." on a book cover?

  10. He wanted the baby dead? And who is he to decide if she gives birth to her baby or not? If HE gets pregnant, HE can choose. But it's also her baby and she is carrying it. If he doesn't want it, sit down, talk about and if you can't find a common solution (maybe it was just too soon for him. Maybe he wanted a few more years of freedom, before ruining his life with a baby. I don't know, we never met the guy), there is this new invention called divorce. As I said, it's not the middle ages anymore. Or he could use condoms, or get his balls cut off (if he NEVER wanted kids). It always takes two for pregnancy. Guys just like to forget it.

And besides: I don't know why she married that idiot. And I'm certainly no expert on relationships. But usually a couple talks about thinks like that BEFORE they get married. Like: apartment or house, kids or dogs, what they expect form life in like 10 years or 15 …

  11. Sorry, I'm not into biography books. I'm more into horror, sci-fi, thriller, history, …

And as I said, I'm not a lawyer. I just assumed that the publishing company needs the permission of the person if they're publishing a book about their life in order to not being sued. I mean, I could write a book about a friend of mine, or my ex, make things up to make it more interesting (even faking evidence) and publishing it. This person would sue me and the company and everyone that helped. Especially if this book would destroy his/her life, maybe even get her/him into prison …

And we're talking USA. Everyone can sue everybody for anything if they like to. O.K. that was maybe a bit extreme. But guess you get my point.

  12. You're probably right. "Like" is probably not the word for it. I mean, she doesn't get her kicks form killing, right?

But she considers it the easiest way to get what she wants, to solve a problem.

  13. Despite of what some people may say or think here that Dexter and Hannah are not alike, they're both killers.Different but still the same.Likes killing. But anyways thats not my point here
Dexter was brought up in a way that he was lead to believe from his very childhood that he has no choice but to kill when he feels the urge.I think Hannah will make him realize that Harry may have been wrong all along in understanding him,he(Dex) was wrong about himself. He does actually have a choice.Like some one mentioned here that he is like an addict, addicts always have choice,it depends on them what they choose.

  16. Hannah is already starting to reject Dexter as I suspected she would.

  17. I have heard many people say Deb or Dex might kill Laguerta in the finale when she discovers the truth. But WAIT untill Hannah kills her.It would pretty much make sense.

  18. That's just it. Survival of the fittest = middle ages. Of course there should have been communication but that's not exactly how she operates. She sees a threat --> she deals with it. There is no pleasure... it's a 'survival of the fittest' mentality. Also Divorce and/or Abortion aren't new inventions... they are shammed/not options for a large segment of the population but that's a topic not for these boards.

    ReplyDelete
  19. "She sees a threat --> she deals with it" But I would call it more like "The easiest way to solve your problems" than "survival of the fittest". That would mean kill or be killed, fight to survive, fight for your food, for your mate, your territory …

No one actually seriously put her life in danger (well, Price came close; She could go to prison. But still murder wasn't the only way out. And in the last ep that assistant of Isaak, which is why I don’t have problems she killed him – self-defense. That is kill or be killed) and no one represented competition.

"They are shammed/not options for a large segment of the population" So you mean, she never considered a divorce cause she believes it's unacceptable, but she's fine with murder? Has anyone still doubts that this woman is seriously disturbed? And if she never considered a divorce, wouldn't she have even more reasons to discuss such little thinks as children and the future life, before they exchange the rings?
