The 2012 TV season is officially four weeks in, and things were relatively relaxed overall. FOX's Bones and The Mob Doctor are off for four weeks, this week being the first of that spell, with FOX airing a three hour baseball game. So where did those viewers go??
Well, that baseball game on FOX was hardly a heavyweight, with a 1.6 rating and 5.58 million viewers for the three hour spell. Nothing too significant there, and its ratings and audience were unnoticeable on the performance the other shows throughout the evening
As per usual on Monday nights, NBC's The Voice and ABC's Dancing With The Stars went head to head in the 8-10pm timeslot, and as per usual, The Voice dominated in ratings, with a 4.8 rating and 13.01 million viewers. This rating is identical to last weeks, but the audience is up slightly, from 12.89 million viewers last week. Dancing With The Stars shed 0.1 of a rating on last week, down to a 2.1 rating this week, but was up about 90,000 viewers on last week, to 13.64 million viewers this week. CBS aired their half hour duos, How I Met Your Mother, and Partners from 8-9pm, with How I Met Your Mother earning a 3.2 rating and 7.93 million viewers, and Partners earning a 2.1 rating and 6.08 million viewers. Both of these shows are up on last week in both ratings and audience, possibly due to the absence of Bones
CBS continues with another two half hour comedies in the 9-10pm timeslot, in the form of 2 Broke Girls and Mike & Molly. 2 Broke Girls earned a 3.4 rating and 9.30 million viewers, and Mike & Molly earned a 3.0 rating and 9.10 million viewers. 2 Broke Girls had the same rating as last week, but was slightly down on last weeks audience. 2 Broke Girls managed to buck that trend, finishing with 0.2 of a ratings point, and a touch over 400,000 viewers, more, than last week. Of course. DWTS and The Voice continue on ABC and NBC respectively
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night came in the 10pm timeslot, in the form of NBC's Revolution, up to a 3.3 rating and 8.61 million viewers this week. There has been a lot of talk on how low Revolution's ratings will go before they bottom out, but it seems I was pretty close to the money in my prediction a couple of weeks ago. Of the five episodes of Revolution we've seen to date, last night episode is third in the ratings and audience of the five, and up considerably on last weeks 3.0 rating and 8.01 million viewers. It's pretty good news for NBC.
Also on at 10pm was ABC's Castle, with a romantic getaway to the Hamptons being hampered somewhat by a dead guy wandering into Castle's pool. Unfortunately, this week was not the week for Castle to surpass Dancing With The Stars, like it came so close to doing last week, but nonetheless, Castle drew a season high audience, and its highest ever audience for a fourth episode of a season, at 10.94 million viewers. However this weeks rating was equal worst for a fourth episode of a season, in line with season 2's 2.0 rating, and down 0.2 on last week
Hawaii Five-0 wrapped things up for CBS at 10pm, with a 2.1 rating and 8.70 million viewers. This is a season high for the show in both ratings and audience, and for the second time this season, it comes in at number 2, behind Revolution, but in front of Castle for ratings in the 10pm timeslot. Castle still comfortably wins more total viewers, drawing more than 2 million more viewers than its competitors last night
Next Monday, the third Presidential debate bumps everything off the networks from 9-11pm, putting a 2 week gap in the schedule for those affected shows. However both ABC and NBC will be airing one hour versions of Dancing With The Stars and The Voice respectively, and CBS air their usual half hour shows, How I Met Your Mother, and Partners, from 8-9pm before the debate gets underway
That's all for now. I'll finish with 2 graphs, the first being NBC's Revolution ratings graph, where you can clearly see the spike in ratings caused by this weeks rise. Click here to see the audience graph. The second graph is ABC's Castle audience season comparison graph, which demonstrates this weeks rise in audience over other episodes at the same point in the previous seasons.
