#Fringe only $68,164 and as far I can see it's the lowest @FOX :-/ ... Well yeah what can I say. I'm still very grateful we're having a Season 5 .... ♥
Obviously I don't understand TV prices Supernatural did better than Gossip Girl, Hart of Dixie and 90210 last season, yet it pulls in less money than any of those. I understand that with the new shows the advertisers looked at pilots and other factors and guessed which ones would be a success, so I see why Supernatural might get lower rates than those, but to get lower rates than shows they do better than surprises me.
I'm surprised that Bones is making less than the Mob Doctor but probably the ads were sold before the premiere. Also I'm worried for Happy Endings, comparing to the other ABC Comedies it's not good and we all know that these are the numbers that DO count in the end!
Ad money for new (upcoming) shows is sold during the May upfronts when the new programs are introduced to potential advertisers. That's why Mob Doctor was more pricey than Bones.
What surprises me is that some of the relativities here don't relate to the ratings. For example Modern Family commands an ad cost of almost 10x that of Supernatural - $330,000 compared to $35,000. Yet this week Modern Family's rating in the demo was less than 5x that of Supernatural (4.7 compared to 1.0). Not sure whether Modern Family is overvalued or Supernatural undervalued, but it seems odd.
Depends on WHICH demos. And whether the advertisers feel that the show matches their product. Obviously they feel that their products match the other shows better.
Just compare Modern Family to The Big Bang Theory. MF gets over $50,000 more per ad, but they have very similar ratings, with TBBT usually coming out a bit ahead. So no, I don't understand the way they're calculated either unless it's just whatever the network thinks they can get advertisers to pay. Seems to me there is no rule, just someone in a back office rubbing their hands together saying "I bet they'll pay more!! Bwa ha ha ha ha!!" :) And Supernatural is obviously the greatest bargain on the CW. Twice as many viewers as GG or 90210 for less cash. I'd buy into that. :)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteSupernatural should have more than th
ReplyDeleteThese are the kind of numbers that do make me worry...

ReplyDelete321k for new girl wow
ReplyDeleteNBC is being propped up by only Sunday Night Football and the Voice!
ReplyDeleteStill it gets more for the same time slot than the bigger networks ABC and CBS do :)
ReplyDeleteI am surprised how Fox is the leader overall in revenue followed by CBS and ABC
ReplyDeleteThis (along with the list of best paid actors) just shows that quality is not the most important criterion.
ReplyDeleteI've read some say that the ads people target the Women 18-34 demo? Other shows are able to target that demo better?
ReplyDeleteWill they realize it next season or by season 10?
ReplyDeleteI don't think advertisers give a damn. Whatever shows can target the demo they are looking for.

ReplyDeleteVery true. Its overall target audience too though. Look at what Fox gets for even Mob Doctor, compared to some shows on ABC.
ReplyDeleteFox are good salesmen, lol. However isn't Fox known for being the youth, edgy market? With Glee, animation domination, etc
ReplyDeletebecause it's based on the demos of the people watching not just the numbers.
ReplyDeleteYep, that explains the absurd price for 2 broke girls.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it a relatively rising/stable comedy on the network, especially with drops in ratings for HIMYM and TAAHM?
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't work because Supernatural beat GG, 90210 and various other shows in the demo last year yet still commands less ad revenue.
ReplyDelete@geordiegirl1967:disqus what demo was that? 18-49 or 18-34?

ReplyDeletewell CW targets A18-34 not A18-49 mark Pedowitz confirmed that in an interview last summer

ReplyDeleteI think those advertisers are going after the Women 18-34 demo and maybe that's why they go after GG or 90210 instead of Supernatural.

ReplyDeleteSo I just had to tell you how much this mad me laugh!!! I love it!!! =D
I suppose so I am not really sure how much the 18-49 influences this rate.
ReplyDelete2 Broke Girls :O
ReplyDeleteNew girl 330k blows my mind...
