First!!! I kind of suspected that Dr. Whale was Frankenstein for a while now. That final Regina/Daniel moment where Regina said goodbye to him as he faded away was a bit heartbreaking. I also suspected that Rumplestilskin and the Mad Hatter were somehow involved with Frankenstein being brought to Fairy Tale Land. And I love how the final scene in the episode was done in black and white.
Holy apples... I just...Ugh stupid show ripping my heart out again, stomping on it for about an hour and putting it back in as if you're some freaky Doctor...
I guess I will need to recover for two weeks after this episode... In other words: Evil Charming <3 (why are Lana and Josh extra gorgeous in their scenes together?!), Mad Queen (oooh, that sassy Hatter tricking poor innocent Regina...Ts,ts, not cool, Jefferson, I guess you deserve what you got), and even Cricket Queen (Dr.Hopper/Regina is such a cute brOTP)!
Did seem odd Charming pushed her away from Daniel to "save" her...and then he & Henry gone when she "used magic" -- with Jiminy, she sounded like she was confessing at AA...
Oh my...where do I begin. First of all this episode with Regina is so heartbreaking. I actually cried. This episode I love but I also hate it with a passion. First all, the theme that this episode clearly pointed out was that Regina needs to move on and let go of the past. Now, I somewhat agree but I more so disagree with this idea because every other bloody miserable person around her is still stuck in the past by wanting to go back to Fairytale Land. And of course I could argue more points of how others remain or did remain in the past but I won't. My point is it is unfair for Regina to have to move forward while a great majority of Storybrooke stays behind in the past. Also, now that we know Regina's misery was furthered by Rumple, Dr. Whale and the Mad Hatter, I'm so looking forward to when she kills one of them. When that happens it will be amazing and I wish it would be Rumple since he was the mastermind behind the plan but I don't see that happening, maybe Dr. Whale? She needs to get rid of somebody that caused her pain (i.e. Cora, Snow, Rumple, Dr. Whale, or the Mad Hatter) Oh well, I can't say enough how my heart breaks for Regina even if she is just a character in a television show. Lana Parilla was amazing in this episode as she is every episode.
"Rumplestiltskin is neutral and he helps people." "Rumple is fair, he only makes deals and always keeps his promises." Yeah, right. And Cora is an angel sent from heaven.
It was really good I want to know more about Frankenstein / Whale and his Brother . Also I want to see Jack on the show along with Peter Pan and the Lost Boys . Dr. Frankenstein & Ruby I need them together there my OTP
Lana had me in tears tonight. I didn't exactly think she'd get a happy ending with Daniel, but it broke my heart nonetheless. I also didn't hate Whale as Frankenstein NEARLY as much as I expected to... I actually might be on board haha.
The Charming/Henry stuff was adorable, and I love their little bonding arcs. I thought that the scenes with Emma and Snow were kind of random, though. They seemed to be thrown in as an afterthought or something. But it was good to stay updated on them, I suppose.
I think the horses are a major part of the several reasons I love the show so much (along with family and friendships and romance). My favorite animal.
Really sad when undead Daniel told Regina to let him go and to find someone else and she did as he asked. It looked like he was in pain along with crazed. :(
It was interesting to see how Jefferson was before he gave up his job. Kind of like the guy driving the getaway car isn't he? Travels whoever he needs to travel through the hat without discrimination.
Oh, I know how you feel, believe me... After the scene with Rumple/Hatter/the Doctor, in particular, I was like "KILL THEM ALL"!!! But then again, if she killed any one of them, that would run counter to her storyline this season, i.e. trying to redeem herself in order to gain Henry's trust (boy, how I hate that annoying character after 2x03). If she kills any of those characters later on, then it would probably be to protect Henry, not merely to exact revenge. Again, I know exactly how you feel, sweetie. I'm still sobbing quietly over Lana's flawless performance. *hugs Evil Regals around the world*
After this one, if someone else comes to me and says Rumple is good, Jefferson is good, just Regina is a freaking heartless bitch, I'll get royally mad. Get over it, people: in this show, NO ONE is 100% nice, not even Snow White.
Lana totally kicked ass, but I found Henry's role on the story under-used. For me, her seeing Daniel hurt her son would make the "killing him all over again" more believable. But, anyway, as I said, Lana kicked ass and it ended up being pretty good. Much better than I expected.
If she were to do that now only 2 of 3 people deserve it now imo, Jefferson's not that person anymore and that would break Grace's heart. Rumple would probably be most deserving.
Yes, the Emma & co. story was a let-down and it felt like commercials compared to the intensity and suspense of the rest of the episode. But Lana's acting just blew me away, so overall it was an amazing episode for me.
I was naturally disappointed that Charming didn't return to check up on her. I think they're taking the "righteous anger" thing too far, if he's supposed to be a hero why won't he sympathize with her?
Further, it continues to astonish me that Snow admits she's responsible for Daniel's death. It's very odd that she takes responsibility, yet she never shows true compassion towards Regina. Same with Charming.
Poor Regina, i felt so bad for her. She lost Daniel once again... at least she has Artie to rely on Wonder who the brother is.. could it be someone we already know? i liked this whole Frankenstein thing tbh Is Hook on Emma's ( and the gang) side?? or is he on Cora's and he's just working as an undercover? Should be intersting when everyone gets back to Storybrooke.i hope they get back before the Christmas break!
Yeah, I see somewhat what your point is, but I still hate the storyline they have for Regina, that she needs to redeem herself in order to gain Henry's trust or to be part of his life. And on that note, I honestly can say that I don't see Emma, Snow or Charming or even Henry himself wanting Regina to be part of his life. I think Regina needs to get over Henry he is a waste of her time in my opinion, he is a troll lol.
As much as I dislike Henry as a character, the maternal aspect of Regina's personality was present from the very beginning of the show and when she displays it, her earlier innocence shines through. Regardless of whether Henry loves her back, it is important that she remain dedicated to him, because he is her reason for living. In the past, her love for Daniel was her only drive. Now with every last hope of Daniel coming back, she needs Henry all the more. It is not about Henry himself, it's about Regina being able to love. Henry is the source of character development for Regina.
But I can't wait until she finds true love again and has children of her own. :)
Solid ep with a fantastic performance by Lana. Interesting take on the Frankenstein tie in, and as cool as that is, I hope it doesn't open the possibility of appearances by Dracula, the Mummy, or other famous monsters (although we have a werewolf of sorts with Ruby) in Storybrooke..
The one bit that confused me on continuity (unless I recall the story incorrectly) was that Jefferson was already the sassy Hatter in this ep before Regina had taken the plunge to become the Evil Queen but last season the episode that showed Jefferson telling his daughter to hide as the EQ was at his cottage, and he had yet to become the MH
Oh that would be a great idea for Regina to have her own family (even though I will never be able to get over Daniel and her past). And then when she has her own family and own castle/land she can wage war on the Charmings (and Rumple and Belle) and defeat them forever WHAHAHAHAHAHA! Sorry I guess I'm still on the revenge side of things. But in all honesty it would be interesting if the show, if it lasts for seasons, would take that direction with Regina and her life.
I think he was "retired" from being the Mad Hatter in 1x17. He mentioned that Grace's mother died because of his work, if I recall correctly. But there has to be more to the Regina/Jefferson story than this! If there isn't, I guess Lana and Sebastian are just trying to drive me...mad...by standing so close together.
Do you watch the show? She's never shown Regina compassion? What!? So when she forgave her for killing her father, trying to have her killed, framing her for murder, saving her from the angry mob? Did I miss anything?
Indeed, Rumple would be the most likely candidate. After all, he manipulated not only Regina's entire life, but apparently her mother's, too. Except Regina doesn't know that yet, and the Charmings and all the others don't suspect that Rumple orchestrated the entire Dark Curse being cast. Hold on...doesn't the Blue Fairy know? Has she forgotten, or is she playing at her own game?
By "true compassion" I mean sincere sympathy. I just feel the 1x21 scene was a little too artificial, and throughout it Snow was mostly hostile. I guess I expected Snow to show a little more heartfelt understanding than offering the "you lost someone, I lost someone, let's call it even" argument.
As for the 1x20 dialogue - it was more of a condescending "sucks to be you" rather than a "you must be a very sad person, let me help".
That's my opinion, of course. I guess I expect Snow to show a little more kindness towards Regina because in the flashbacks to the early days of their relationship Young!Regina still struggles to treat the girl with love and care.
Sooo... even though Regina has tried to strip her of everything and hurt everyone in her life and never showed her an ounce of sympathy other than to fake it so she could marry her father. I am a huge Lana fan but not blinded by my amazement of her acting. Daniels death was Cora's death, not Snow's. Regina has never owned to any of her wrong doings. Never repented and does not deserve the forgiveness that Snow has given her. That is a bigger compassion than any other. To give forgiveness that isn't deserved. How many people do that that you know? I mean, when the Huntsman was standing there ready to cut out her heart and she thought she was about to die, in that moment she forgave her again. Thats pretty huge.
Yay! I'm not the only one. I thought it was ok also. My least favourite so far. Not to take away from the acting because everyone was great with what they were given. I just didn't like the story. I do think Lana is brilliant.
Frankly I think you are obviously not a fan of the character and despise Regina. Snow can forgive Regina all she wants to but Snow was a factor in Regina's misery. Now, does that mean that Snow should die for her contribution? No, but she is not innocent and not a saint and in my opinion needed a form of punishment and I do think she has already had that by her father being killed by Regina/Genie. And let's not forget that Regina was and is still being used as a game piece by that nasty gremlin, Rumple. You don't seem to understand that Snow will one day have the happiness she once had and always wanted but Regina after this episode has to live with the fact that her love and the things she wanted are all gone forever. Sure she can recreate a new life which is the storyline for her this season but in my opinion I don't think she will be able to get with Henry like she wants because of Emma, Snow, Charming and Henry himself. So, really she is just going to get herself hurt again.
LOL ok. Well actually I think the character is great and she is one of the characters that make the show. Lana is amazing, she gives me goosebumps. I'm not going to waste my time arguing with someone who thinks a little girl needs to be punished after being manipulated by adults. That's why there are laws to protect children from such things. However, Emma has already said that Regina will always be a part of Henry's life and she has accepted that. However can Henry trust her after everything she has done to his family. Considering his age I think he is doing pretty good. I thought it was mean to trick her by asking her to lunch and then sneaking her keys but again, he's a little boy and he's trying to save his family. Maybe I would have enjoyed the episode more if I hadn't immediatly come here and read some of the comments. To be honest.
I don't think Jefferson was considered the "Mad Hatter" until he was in Wonderland.
Before, as a "Hatter" he used his hat to help anyone who would pay him or do him a favor, move between worlds, despite some of those people doing awful things he let them do whatever. Kind of like a paid getaway driver as I said in another post. How he got into this work, I'd love to find out.
Anyways, probably sometime when he met Grace's mother, she may have started asking him to get out of the business and he started to want out but then again did't because of the pay- him wanting to support his family well.
Or maybe it was Grace's mother's death alone, caused by whomever he was helping or wherever they went, that made him quit. Either way, her death was the breaking point.
But then used to having money and wanting to give Grace the best, he decided to help Regina, and ended up in Wonderland where he became mad.
Rest is history.
That is basically what I've come to assume drawing the lines between the dots.
The big blinking light for me in the episode? Emma declaring, once again, that she can tell when people are lying. At lest she was right this time. But I was really really hoping they'd never pull that line out of the drawer again. She was lied to so MANY times in season one that it was laughable.
I thought the Regina story was awesome...such a painful way to learn a lesson Rumple kept her from learning back in the day. :-)
Loved the costume and set design for Dr. Frankenstein. Loved Rumpie's price for Whale's arm. Really interesting to see Jefferson so early on his timeline. I kept thinking this was before he had his daughter. LOVED Rumpie telling him to take as much gold as he thought adequate. The kind of think only someone who can make their own gold would ever say.
Any Fringe fans in here notice that Frankenstein's assistant (Igor?) was none other than the Bad Observer from episode 4.19 Letters of Transit? (He was the Anderson Cooper looking Observer)
Lana Parrilla and Noah Bean were fantastic, especially in their final scene together. Other than that... I don't know. I didn't care for the Hook and present day FTL stuff this week. It felt completely disconnected from the rest of the episode. This is where I see them struggling with the three worlds approach. The Frankenstein reveal wasn't surprising anymore, thanks to ABC. Some of the plot twists in Storybrooke felt clumsy, Henry at the stables being a prime example. I did like Archie and Regina though. And I hope they are going to bring Noah Bean in some fashion. I would like to see more of Regina and Daniel than heartbreak and death in every episode they're in. We still know very little of their story in fairytale land. They better show some more of that in the future. Regina and Daniel, and their poor fans who keep suffering, deserve at least a little more happiness. Even if it's only in flashbacks.
wow I should probably don't come here after watching. So much hate for various characters! I'll just stay in my happy/sad/angry OUAT bubble from now on.
Anyone else get some Wizard of Oz vibes with Frankenstein? "we're off to see him", questions about weather his magic is "powerful", Rumple asking Hatter if he got "the slippers" as well as the way the scene played out with him trying to bring Daniel back behind that curtain all make me think Frankenstein will also turn out to be the Wizard of Oz.
I really liked the episode. Above all, I loved the "magic v/s science" conflict, even it was just barely touched upon, I'd really like to see it expanded further (we still have to know who was Whale's brother, and why he was in FTL when the curse happened)
Henry being at the stables felt maybe to prop-ey, and there wasn't a big payoff with Regina's reaction to Daniel attacking him. Also, it surprised me how she could get a hold of herself not to send Charming flying away with magic when he was trying to stop her.
Whale's reason for bringing Daniel back felt rushed if not flimsy: if they had hinted Whale's intentions in a previous scene with Regina (instead of that scene with Charming) it would have been more understandable and coherent.
Thinking about it, Charming felt redundant, almost shoehorned, the story would have worked better if it focused on Regina and Whale. Jiminy was great as a supporting character to Regina, Charming would have worked better being used as sparingly (keeping his cutesy scenes with Henry)
This, plus the disjointedness of the FTL scenes subtracted cohesion from the episode as a whole. The stuff was good, but it could have been more neatly packed. Though on the other hand, FTL scenes were going to feel out of place anyway, so it was just about putting them there (besides, badass Emma is badass)
All the acting kudos to Lana Parrilla, urgh, (This comment is this technical because I still can't process all these feels about her and Daniel)
And you purposefuly seem to overlook THE CONDITIONS under which Emma was when she believed those lies.
Since Graham's death Emma was in complete denial of anything magical existing. The denial was so strong that her own magic, literally would alter her perception to not even SEE it. Last episode, the end of it, was the first time she actually let someone in and started to process that she has parents, as well as what happened.
Fracking called Emma being the one to mistrust Hook, as well as her lie-detection working good once she went past her stage of denial from S1.Sometimes believing in fictional character pays off. Its nice to see her back in self-confident-bounty-hunter mode that all the weirdness has knocked out of her in previous season.
LOVED Whale's backstory and him being DR.Frankenstein was fantastic. I do wonder on if he might ALSO be wizard of Oz too - both seemed to deal with body parts after all.
I never got those as actual forgiveness but her saying it to manipulate Regina. The way it was played in both episodes made it seem cruel and petty, not genuine.
Or she just pulled her head out of her ass and realized that maybe she should be suspicious of people. Random survivor of a massacre of Cora, it's a pretty standard villain trick, Emma would have to be an absolute moron to fall for it so soon after she fell for Cora's trick. It shouldn't be a a ~superpower, at this point it should be common sense kicking in.
"A little disappointed they didn't have Charming or Henry check on Regina." Exactly! What was that about? First Charming is all "I'll kill him" and then he suddenly leaves her completely alone with him? And why is it, that Henry didn't get to see Regina in such a highly emotional moment? This would have been soo important!!
I am just saying that one believes what one wants to believe, so even if every instinct in her body told her that someone is lying back in S1, she had a pretty valid psychological reason to just ignore it. She no longer can - that weight has been lifted, so theoretically she can again trust her gut without ignoring it.
Oh, great, so I'm not the only one who feels this way after all! :)
I couldn't quite put my finger on it before, but you just hit the nail on the head - it comes down to the fact that both Snow and Charming tend to feel superior to others. For example, Snow was skeptical that King George could ever love, Charming was skeptical that Rumple could ever love; both seem to share the view that only "good" people deserve kindness and the "evil" are not capable of finding true love. Honestly, it's hard for me to reconcile their overconfidence and lack of compassion with their role of "heroes" who are supposed to deserve a happy ending.
I feel the same way....I don't get the hate. I tend to champion the "good" characters the most, but the show does such a terrific job with telling everyone's backstory, that it's hard not to empathize with all of the characters, including Rumple and Regina. Knowing this show, even the Ogres will eventually have their own story, and I'll probably feel sorry for them too! Also, the cast is so strong that I don't even notice when certain characters are missing in an episode. I'm really impressed that the writers were able to make the second season just as interesting as the first.
Gosh, i think it might be best if I don't come to the chat corner anymore. Charming is my favorite and I don't like the sexist remarks made about him in favor of the evil queen. I'm sorry but it's disheartening to read. So goodbye I'll keep watching but I won't chat.
This episode was sooooo good the only thing that would have made it better would've been more of the Emma scenes but I get why it ended where it did - poor Henry!!! Lana was so good this episode all of her scenes were great!.
I really liked this episode! Really Lana was amazing! Regina/Daniel moments were so sad :( The scene in the stable with Daniel/Regina/David was really great! I think Artie really is a good person, I love the way he try to help everyone, former Evil Queen or not :) the FTL (present) scenes were not as good as in the previous episodes but I'm sure they'll be awesome in the next! I don't know if I like Hook... He was amazing in the Crocodile but kinda "meh" this week...I'll have to see more of him... Rumple really is the mastermind behind everything. I was sure he was "plotting" with Jefferson and the doctor... and like he said, he tunred Regina into a monster. Granted she made her own choices, she could have just grieved Daniel and move on but (with a lot of "help") she chose evil... It was nice to see the Baby Evil Queen :D Rumple and Regina are two of the most amazing vilains I've ever seen, they have so many layers and so many conflicted emotions! I can't get enough of them :) I love when they're evil, when they're good, when they seek love and redemption or when they manipulate others... I hope Hook will be as awesome :D
....HEY,.,HEY,.,HEY...Dr.Frankenstein a fairy tale...(WHAT)....may be a horror story..like DRACULA..very confuse no mater this episode was ..AWESOME AND AMAZING
I've read all the comments and I didn't saw that much of negative things toward him... :) I mean Regina is my favorite and I think Charming was really good in this eps! He protected Henry AND Regina plus he allowed her to have a moment with Daniel when she asked him :) Go Charming! I didn't particulary liked him last season but is really growing on me in this one!
Love this episode! (You were right about Frankenstein, Cathy!)
Little confused about Victor's reality...is it The Land Without Magic's past (as it would be according to the time and place in Shelly's novel) since he believes in [fringe] science, rather than magic (although I believe they're one in the same, just that there are different quantum mechanics involved), or is he from a horror reality that also does not have magic???
For a moment I had thought he might also be The Wizard of Oz because of the 'hearts' and horses aspect, and that because The Wizard of Oz film was originally black and white, like a lot of old movies, including horror movies. -But I might be getting ahead of myself on that one.
I still think Whale may double as someone down the line, as a "Whale" doesn't really have a lot to do with the novel Frankenstein...(or not that I can remember)
Interesting that he has a brother too...
LP deserves and Emmy for sure! She does such a good job at showing so many sides of Regina, it's unbelievable! -Nice to see Noah Bean again too! -It's too bad he couldn't be saved in a good way...maybe this is not the end of this though? Or maybe Regina will meet someone new...
Kudo's for K and H to kind of go back to those Felicity roots, as the episode is reminiscent to the "Help for the Lovelorn", A Felicity-Twighlight Zone spoof (which is also similar to Fringe's Film Noir spoof, "Brown Betty".)! -And it seems David Anders has found his inner Julian Sark again, by bringing back the accent and the super personal agenda!
Still waiting for conversations about Rum, Corsets, and more magic compass between Captain Sparrow, errr, I mean Captain Jones and Miss Swan...
So cool that Dr. Whale and Jefferson are acquainted (and you are right Courts, Jefferson was a student of Rumples!) What more could I ask for! :D
I think a lot of doors are opening up for the show and that should keep us busy for a few seasons, I hope!
As Jefferson said in "Hat Trick" every work of fiction in Land Without Magic is "inspired" by an already existing parallel world.
from the hints though, Frankenstein might also be Wizard of Oz too(Jefferson's "We're off to see him" as well as Jefferson calling him a "wizard"), though, making his homeworld, Oz.
I agree with the quantum mechanic science/magic aspects, just my delema goes further with that even the Wizard from the Wizard of Oz was originally from "Kansas" ( a con man-magician) like Dorothy, but I like the prospect of what you're saying and hope it goes that way!
Thanks for your thoughts and reminding me of what was stated in "Hat Trick"! (:
Good catch! Thought he looked familiar, but totally couldn't place him! I really love that Dr. Whale has a Fringe science thing going on. (and his hand ripping off was a juxtaposition to Montand on Lost...even "Dead is Dead" was mentioned!
Yep totally think he could be The Wizard of Oz too! (Hearts + Horse + black and white film + "we're off" + Wizard + green military uniform that may play to WWI/art Noveau aesthetic ---->Emerald City ) IMO all play to Oz IMO.
1. When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong.
2. The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.
3. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
It was a little, but one could argue that she refused his help (depending again on how we want to define help). And he has a responsibility to keep Henry safe and go after him to make sure he is alright.
I disagree. I would have rather watched an hour of Emma and Snow, and Emma pulling daggers on people and interrogating them and not taking them at their word, that this continual backpedaling of "Oh, these evil people who have killed countless innocents aren't REALLY that bad".
Also, the guy who plays Daniel is such a godawful actor.
@twitter-194353448:disqus Well, for starters, they don't send little children to their deaths, of envelop the land in a curse, or murder innocents (or, for that matter, the undeserving guilty).
Regina is evil. She may love Henry, and she may want to change herself for Henry's sake, but that doesn't make her actions any less evil. And she's going to need to do a lot more than experience a change of heart in order to atone for their sins. She doesn't deserve empathy (sympathy is very much the wrong word). She deserves justice.
I have to agree - it had a great premise, but for me the execution wasn't so great. It fell a little flat for me, I guess because there was so much going on and so little time. This really could have benefited from maybe being a 2 part episode, or not addressing the Present Day FTL story...the scenes with Daniel felt a little rushed and so for me didn't have as striking an emotional impact as they could have.
That said, Lana was fantastic, especially when she was trying to pull Charming away from the door so she could see Daniel. I really felt her anguish.
I'm not purposefully overlooking anything. For me, I was hooked on this show in the first couple of minutes because Emma was, in the teaser for the pilot, strong, smart and savvy. Those were traits she had when she didn't let anyone in and they are not traits you have to lose to open your heart and let people in. But worse, for me, they are traits that she seemed to lose only when it would make the writers lives easier.
But, while those issues were frustrating, Emma's declaration that she could tell when people were lying to her, became downright laughable to me because of the frequency she would actually *say* she could spot a liar while being lied to. It's a list that goes through the entire season and not just the last few episodes. And if it hadn't happened so frequently after she *said* she could spot a liar it wouldn't have become such a joke to me.
If I force myself to be objective...Mr. Gold's lies to manipulate her into getting that jar of love...made sense. Her son was dying. She was legitimately so focused on saving Henry that it makes complete sense that she wouldn't think things through and would take whatever advice, suggestion or direction she could get to stop the helpless feeling of losing your child. Unfortunately, I'd watched an entire season of her telling me she could spot a liar when she so obviously could not that it took me a few days after watching the episode to look at that sequence objectively.
Not bad. - I'm glad Whale is Frankenstein. His character is finally interesting to me. There aren't enough mad scientists on TV these days. (God bless Walter Bishop.) - Speaking of Fringe, an observer played Igor. That was amusing. - Regina was great in this episode. She, along with the return to "competent Emma," was the highlight of the show. - I was proud of Regina for going back to Hopper after she used magic. That was progress.
- Hatter was a little better at showing his "mad" personality in this episode. - When are Aurora and Mulan going to be more than annoying complainers in the background? - It was good to see Emma and Mary Margaret again but they didn't have any good scenes together. - The bargain Whale struck with Gold to reattach his arm was probably the most acceptable deal Gold has ever made. It was very petty though.
Wow, what a great episode, and how I never have expected Whale to be Frankenstein!. And I never though Frankenstein is on the same level with fairy tales. But I guess it is a story written by someone, so that makes it a tale.
I guess, Daniel was... a zombie? He did look like it, except the flesh-eating part. But I can understand when Regina refused to let him go. He was the love of her life. I wonder if there'll be another love story (with another man) for Regina after this.
I'm glad that Emma found out that Hook was Hook. And I can't wait on the episode where they have to climb the magic tree. But does this mean Jack will be in the episode? Maybe in the flashback?
But I do find inconsistency between Jefferson in this episode and Hefferson in "The Hat Trick" episode though. Personalities of both Jeffersons are different. In The Hat Trick, Jefferson was a loving father, and the way he looked at the Queen was more like the Queen who tricked him, not the other way around. Maybe there is another backstory to it?
Regina made it difficult to show any compassion toward her when she was the evil queen. I don't think that Snow should take the blame for what happened to Daniel in the first place. She was a little girl, who had lost her mother and was tricked by an adult who was entirely evil and only wanted power. Snow feared that Regina would lose her mother in some way and didn't want that to happen to her. She thought that Cora only wanted Regina to be happy and that Cora loved her daughter the way Snow's mother had loved Snow. It is wrong for Snow to be blamed for Daniel's death, it was all Cora. Then Regina took on her mother's evil ways, makes it difficult for Snow to have any sympathy for her. She turned her grief into anger and turned to the dark arts to get what she thought she wanted. Revenge.
OMG!!!!! Regina is not evil and I think she has had her fair share of "justice." First of all we know that Rumple manipulated her life probably since before she was born. She LOST her true love FOREVER while everyone else excluding Emma and Ruby, has or can find a way to have their special someone(s). She was abused as a child by Cora which has caused her so many problems. She was tricked by Dr. Whale and Jefferson who were companions of Rumple. And she was forced into a marriage (somewhat although when she pushed Cora into the mirror she probably could have ran away from the kingdom), and during the entire marriage to Snow's father she was constantly reminded that she was not the one the king loved for he still loved his first wife (understandably) and also constantly reminded that Snow White was the fairest in the land (who in no way child or adult can compare to the beauty of Lana Parilla). AND Snow is not so innocent. And guess what she has murdered innocents also (in a way) she killed several guards at the castle where she thought Charming was being held captive. Now if you really want to go further and draw conclusions Snow killed that guard(s) whom might have had a family thus causing pain to those who lost someone they loved at the hands of Snow. But granted it was a guard who would have either killed her or taken her in to the king where he might have killed her or kept her as prisoner so it's an intense situation. Which leads me to the point of that no one is completely good or evil, everyone is neutral and fighting for their own reasons/purposes. It really depends on which "side" you are on whether you see a character as the enemy or the hero or just a piece of the game (and there is not just two sides there are multiple sides in this particular television show).
OMG why does everyone think that just because I think Snow deserves some form of punishment that I think she needs to be locked in a tower and beaten to death and abused. How absurd. YES, SHE DESERVED SOME FORM OF PUNISHMENT BECAUSE SHE WAS A FACTOR/REASON FOR DANIEL'S DEATH AND A CONTINUANCE OF REGINA'S MISERY, HOWEVER MINOR HER PART WAS. Now I say Snow has already had her share of punishment by losing her father (even though she shows very little sympathy in my opinion to this loss but maybe because her character is suppose to be annoyingly optimistic,in most cases, she doesn't show great sympathy).
True, she didn't even know, so I guess there's more to it later. It's just, I remember reading a spoiler article that said that we will find out why the Queen hated the Mad Hatter, but this episode didn't really show the Queen hating Jefferson. So, as I said, maybe there's more to it later.
Shouldn't his responsibility to keep Henry safe mean that he was actually AT the stables so that Henry wasn't alone with a giant animal he didn't know anything about?
And if Daniel is SO dangerous that David wanted to kill him, he should have been there to check the outcome. Either he's that dangerous or he's not.
We know the next episode is going to be about Emma and Hook climbing the beanstalk. Emma's storyline in FTL made this episode disjointed and should have been cut and placed in the next one. It ruined the pace of this episode and was entirely unnecessary based on what we know is going to happen in the next one.
Whale's whole thing didn't make sense, about bringing Daniel back. They should have taken out the FTL land stuff, put it in the next episode and fleshed Whale's stuff out more.
Same about Charming. He was just a plot device this episode, doing what he needed to do to move plot forward even when things didn't make sense.
Yep! I live on a horse farm since I was 6 and we used to give lessons to kids and so it is not the smartest thing to leave an unexpired kid with a large animal (especially since the viewers know Henry doesn't always do sensible things)
But that might be what David learned form this -to not leave Henry alone for too long (As David is also learning how to be a father figure), which is why he had to go after him once the adult-capable-of-making-her-own-decisions-Regina decided she could handle Daniel...and she did, despite it didn't go the way she wanted.
But the logic doesn't make sense. he was going to 'put [Daniel] down' because he was too dangerous to the town. But then left him with an hysterical woman who was (wrongly) convinced he wouldn't hurt her.
So either she was going to get killed by someone strong enough to easily rip arms off of men much larger than her and Daniel was still around or what?
Yes. and Regina Refused his help, she BEGGED him to give her a chance to try and 'change' the state of Daniel. (There's no guarantee that Charming could have stopped Daniel either--if cutting him would have even stopped him?!) People would have said it would been sexist if Charming just didn't listen, but more importantly, it's written this way to give Regina a moment alone and show us the "maddening" qualities that love and not letting go can produce. IMO none of the characters are perfect and make perfect sense and that's ok IMO, because I think people can be like that.
I disagree. It's Regina and Whale (past introductory) centric and so it should relate more to them, as I am sure next week will be Emma centric and will relate more to her, as last week was Rumple and Killian Jones (past introductory) centric. IMO I am enjoying how they're juggling, so that they don't really loose focus of them as individuals with individual arcs.
Yes, which is why it should have been about Charming and Henry actually CARING about Regina. He said he cared she was his mother and yet the show has actually yet to portray that even once outside of him saying that she was still his mother. He and Charming didn't even care if she lived or died or if zombie Daniel was coming to rip limbs from other people in Storybrooke.
I don't find Charming particularly heroic but I'm pretty sure that's all we;re supposed to find him.
Regina says she wants to be more of a mother too and what she chose is also not motherly behavior. If she's trying to prove herself worthy, she isn't doing a good job. It's not fair to blame Charming for not caring about Regina, when Regina also chooses to make bad or irrational decisions.
Every single character is not perfect and can't live up to an extreme ideal of good and evil. There are always going to be fans that support their favorite characters no matter what they do. I however don't just have one or two favorite characters and don't see any of them in one specific context, so I can enjoy them all for their imperfection, making them very real and human characters. -But that doesn't mean I idolize them by saying they have no faults.
I feel I know these writers/creators well enough from their other works to feel certain that these characters are meant to be flawed and have a lot of problems. (In fact I have been rewatching Felicity, which I like to do in fall for obvious reasons. -So crazy, but the first episode of S4, is partially about the character Alana getting married and she gets mad at Javier's aunt about not getting her dress right...Javier says that she will never find a women like his cousin, because she can make clothes like "Rumpelstiltskin"!) But iMO we can't have a good drama about people, if we have characters that never make mistakes. There would be no point to the series.
She had the option to kill/stop Daniel, (or let Charming kill/stop Daniel) and go with Charming to see about Henry, instead of taking a chance and risking her own life and the towns. I'm not the one blaming anyone for making bad choices, you are. I'm defending and accusing both of them, because I agreed you had a point about Charming's actions, but I disagree that Regina acted much better. You can't say Charming could/of should of, with out also saying Regina could of/should of. Everyone "could" have done better, but they didn't, because people don't always. (and again, this is the point of having this also relate to Frankenstein, as the novel is about dealing with the consequence of thought less and horrific consequences. -Mary Shelly tries to make a point that Victor Frankestein made "all the wrong" choices when it came to bringing people back to life. That if you're going to play God, then you better be responsible or it will come back to haunt you...Regina hasn't "earned" Henry's love, or any of the Charmings approval, because she's stuck in past and did a really cruel thing because of the pain of this loss - create a curse that is like killing everyone and bringing them back to life in a twisted and hurtful way and then additionally do it to that person she lost, Daniel (he was suffering).
Obviously we all watch shows for different reasons. IMO the point of not having Charming/Henry witness it weights more on the audience really feeling for her situation, because she's left alone (it's MORE heart breaking, because "the audience" knows she's just trying to to be better--We wouldn't feel SO bad for her, had Charming been there. But we see she is alone still-which makes it easier her to cave into using magic for bad--So if she wouldn't, fans can really be proud of her down the road, because she is struggling more than the others. This way it's more compelling). -Like you said we have a lot of episodes left. Regina's redemption arc should take time to develop, she shouldn't just be part of the family and instantly cared for...as Charming too should have an arc and not just be the guy that does every little thing right, because he is learning too. -It's not like ruining Snow's happiness, didn't ruin his or his daughter's life too. We're lucky he even lets Regina live to even have a chance to redeem herself.
honestly, I am open to the idea of Once upon a time bringing in new characters that are outside the usual fairy tale lore. This proves that the producers and showrunners are not afraid to think outside the box. I had a inkling that Dr. Whale was really Dr. Frankenstein for sometime now. And i love that they did the final Frankenstein scene in black and white.
all the awards in the world to lana parilla, now! she broke me in this episode! it was one of my favorite episodes. a lot of storylines going on, but all of them very interesting and captivating. this show has endless possibilities, it's incredible. i feel so sorry for regina though, she really is my favorite character. i am also really digging hook.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
ReplyDeleteI felt pretty bad for Regina this episode. And now I'm shipping Regina/Archie a little, tbh.
ReplyDeleteAnd Henry and Grandpa!Charming and the horse were cute. I also loved Mama!Snow and Emma time.
Better than 2.04
ReplyDeleteI found that pretty weak. THey should have cut the Emma/Snow stuff because it made the episode seem disjointed.
ReplyDeleteA little disappointed they didn't have Charming or Henry check on Regina.
Can't wait to watch this tomorrow! I'm all caught up and I don't regret watching it. Best show ever!
ReplyDeleteHoly apples... I just...Ugh stupid show ripping my heart out again, stomping on it for about an hour and putting it back in as if you're some freaky Doctor...
ReplyDeleteI guess I will need to recover for two weeks after this episode...
ReplyDeleteOh my...where do I begin.
ReplyDelete"Rumplestiltskin is neutral and he helps people."
ReplyDelete"Rumple is fair, he only makes deals and always keeps his promises."
Yeah, right. And Cora is an angel sent from heaven.
It was really good I want to know more about Frankenstein / Whale and his Brother . Also I want to see Jack on the show along with Peter Pan and the Lost Boys . Dr. Frankenstein & Ruby I need them together there my OTP
ReplyDeleteLana had me in tears tonight. I didn't exactly think she'd get a happy ending with Daniel, but it broke my heart nonetheless. I also didn't hate Whale as Frankenstein NEARLY as much as I expected to... I actually might be on board haha.
ReplyDeleteThe Charming/Henry stuff was adorable, and I love their little bonding arcs. I thought that the scenes with Emma and Snow were kind of random, though. They seemed to be thrown in as an afterthought or something. But it was good to stay updated on them, I suppose.
I loved Charming giving Henry a horse. :)
ReplyDeleteI think the horses are a major part of the several reasons I love the show so much (along with family and friendships and romance).
ReplyDeleteBut then again, if she killed any one of them, that would run counter to her storyline this season, i.e. trying to redeem herself in order to gain Henry's trust (boy, how I hate that annoying character after 2x03). If she kills any of those characters later on, then it would probably be to protect Henry, not merely to exact revenge.
Again, I know exactly how you feel, sweetie. I'm still sobbing quietly over Lana's flawless performance.
*hugs Evil Regals around the world*
not enough emma/snow, but I liked the episode more than I expected!
ReplyDeleteAfter this one, if someone else comes to me and says Rumple is good, Jefferson is good, just Regina is a freaking heartless bitch, I'll get royally mad. Get over it, people: in this show, NO ONE is 100% nice, not even Snow White.
ReplyDeleteLana totally kicked ass, but I found Henry's role on the story under-used. For me, her seeing Daniel hurt her son would make the "killing him all over again" more believable. But, anyway, as I said, Lana kicked ass and it ended up being pretty good. Much better than I expected.
It was OK I guess. I prefer the first 4 episodes to this one. Disappointed with Hook, he's not a villain.
ReplyDeleteIf she were to do that now only 2 of 3 people deserve it now imo, Jefferson's not that person anymore and that would break Grace's heart. Rumple would probably be most deserving.
ReplyDeleteYes, the Emma & co. story was a let-down and it felt like commercials compared to the intensity and suspense of the rest of the episode. But Lana's acting just blew me away, so overall it was an amazing episode for me.
ReplyDeleteI was naturally disappointed that Charming didn't return to check up on her.
She lost Daniel once again... at least she has Artie to rely on
ReplyDeleteWonder who the brother is.. could it be someone we already know? i liked this whole Frankenstein thing tbh
Is Hook on Emma's ( and the gang) side?? or is he on Cora's and he's just working as an undercover?
Should be intersting when everyone gets back to Storybrooke.i hope they get back before the Christmas break!
Yeah, I see somewhat what your point is, but I still hate the storyline they have for Regina, that she needs to redeem herself in order to gain Henry's trust or to be part of his life. And on that note, I honestly can say that I don't see Emma, Snow or Charming or even Henry himself wanting Regina to be part of his life. I think Regina needs to get over Henry he is a waste of her time in my opinion, he is a troll lol.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha, he is a troll, isn't he? :D
ReplyDeleteAs much as I dislike Henry as a character, the maternal aspect of Regina's personality was present from the very beginning of the show and when she displays it, her earlier innocence shines through.
ReplyDeleteThe one bit that confused me on continuity (unless I recall the story incorrectly) was that Jefferson was already the sassy Hatter in this ep before Regina had taken the plunge to become the Evil Queen but last season the episode that showed Jefferson telling his daughter to hide as the EQ was at his cottage, and he had yet to become the MH
"Royally mad". lol :D
ReplyDeleteOh that would be a great idea for Regina to have her own family (even though I will never be able to get over Daniel and her past).
ReplyDeleteI think he was "retired" from being the Mad Hatter in 1x17. He mentioned that Grace's mother died because of his work, if I recall correctly.
ReplyDeleteBut there has to be more to the Regina/Jefferson story than this! If there isn't, I guess Lana and Sebastian are just trying to drive me...mad...by standing so close together.
I love Regina and Dr. Whale/Frankenstein!!!Glad he pulled through.I am so sorry about poor Regina though,,,She was forced into becoming bad :(
ReplyDeleteDo you watch the show? She's never shown Regina compassion? What!? So when she forgave her for killing her father, trying to have her killed, framing her for murder, saving her from the angry mob? Did I miss anything?
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Rumple would be the most likely candidate. After all, he manipulated not only Regina's entire life, but apparently her mother's, too.
ReplyDeleteExcept Regina doesn't know that yet, and the Charmings and all the others don't suspect that Rumple orchestrated the entire Dark Curse being cast.
ReplyDeleteAs for the 1x20 dialogue - it was more of a condescending "sucks to be you" rather than a "you must be a very sad person, let me help".
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm not the only one. I thought it was ok also. My least favourite so far. Not to take away from the acting because everyone was great with what they were given. I just didn't like the story. I do think Lana is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteFrankly I think you are obviously not a fan of the character and despise Regina.
ReplyDeleteLOL ok.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I would have enjoyed the episode more if I hadn't immediatly come here and read some of the comments. To be honest.
Awww, I feel really bad for Regina! That scene with Daniel was really sad... D:
ReplyDeleteAll the awards go to Lana
ReplyDeleteI don't think Jefferson was considered the "Mad Hatter" until he was in Wonderland.
ReplyDeleteBefore, as a "Hatter" he used his hat to help anyone who would pay him or do him a favor, move between worlds, despite some of those people doing awful things he let them do whatever.
ReplyDeleteI thought the Regina story was awesome...such a painful way to learn a lesson Rumple kept her from learning back in the day.
I need to watch again but I loved the ep.
Any Fringe fans in here notice that Frankenstein's assistant (Igor?) was none other than the Bad Observer from episode 4.19 Letters of Transit? (He was the Anderson Cooper looking Observer)
ReplyDeleteLana Parrilla and Noah Bean were fantastic, especially in their final scene together. Other than that... I don't know.
ReplyDeleteI didn't care for the Hook and present day FTL stuff this week.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else get some Wizard of Oz vibes with Frankenstein? "we're off to see him", questions about weather his magic is "powerful", Rumple asking Hatter if he got "the slippers" as well as the way the scene played out with him trying to bring Daniel back behind that curtain all make me think Frankenstein will also turn out to be the Wizard of Oz.
ReplyDeleteIt got me thinking that Victor's land might be Oz.
ReplyDeleteI wonder who Whale's brother is. my guess is that he's not dead, and he could be who Ethan Embru guest stars as...
ReplyDeleteI really liked the episode. Above all, I loved the "magic v/s science" conflict, even it was just barely touched upon, I'd really like to see it expanded further (we still have to know who was Whale's brother, and why he was in FTL when the curse happened)
ReplyDeleteHenry being at the stables felt maybe to prop-ey, and there wasn't a big payoff with Regina's reaction to Daniel attacking him.
That's a nice theory. We still have to know how Victor's procedure went "wrong" and what really happened to his brother.
ReplyDeleteAnd you purposefuly seem to overlook THE CONDITIONS under which Emma was when she believed those lies.
ReplyDeleteSince Graham's death Emma was in complete denial of anything magical existing.
ReplyDeleteLOVED Whale's backstory and him being DR.Frankenstein was fantastic. I do wonder on if he might ALSO be wizard of Oz too - both seemed to deal with body parts after all.
I never got those as actual forgiveness but her saying it to manipulate Regina. The way it was played in both episodes made it seem cruel and petty, not genuine.
ReplyDeleteYeah. He was just going on about how dangerous Daniel is then he's just gone and doesn't check at all that Regina is alive or okay or anything?
ReplyDeleteI agree, I found both her attempts at forgiveness to be less than genuine and more of a way to feel superior to Regina.
ReplyDeleteOr she just pulled her head out of her ass and realized that maybe she should be suspicious of people. Random survivor of a massacre of Cora, it's a pretty standard villain trick, Emma would have to be an absolute moron to fall for it so soon after she fell for Cora's trick. It shouldn't be a a ~superpower, at this point it should be common sense kicking in.
ReplyDelete"A little disappointed they didn't have Charming or Henry check on Regina."
ReplyDeleteExactly! What was that about? First Charming is all "I'll kill him" and then he suddenly leaves her completely alone with him? And why is it, that Henry didn't get to see Regina in such a highly emotional moment? This would have been soo important!!
No one is saying that its a superpower.
ReplyDeleteI am just saying that one believes what one wants to believe, so even if every instinct in her body told her that someone is lying back in S1, she had a pretty valid psychological reason to just ignore it. She no longer can - that weight has been lifted, so theoretically she can again trust her gut without ignoring it.
Oh, great, so I'm not the only one who feels this way after all! :)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't quite put my finger on it before, but you just hit the nail on the head - it comes down to the fact that both Snow and Charming tend to feel superior to others.
Lana was amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteIt took me a while to adjust to his image but I love that he's actually bold
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way....I don't get the hate.
ReplyDeleteGosh, i think it might be best if I don't come to the chat corner anymore. Charming is my favorite and I don't like the sexist remarks made about him in favor of the evil queen. I'm sorry but it's disheartening to read. So goodbye I'll keep watching but I won't chat.
ReplyDeleteThis episode was sooooo good the only thing that would have made it better would've been more of the Emma scenes but I get why it ended where it did - poor Henry!!! Lana was so good this episode all of her scenes were great!.
ReplyDeleteI really liked this episode! Really Lana was amazing! Regina/Daniel moments were so sad :(
ReplyDeleteThe scene in the stable with Daniel/Regina/David was really great!
It was nice to see the Baby Evil Queen :D
Rumple and Regina are two of the most amazing vilains I've ever seen, they have so many layers and so many conflicted emotions!
ReplyDeleteI've read all the comments and I didn't saw that much of negative things toward him... :) I mean Regina is my favorite and I think Charming was really good in this eps! He protected Henry AND Regina plus he allowed her to have a moment with Daniel when she asked him :) Go Charming! I didn't particulary liked him last season but is really growing on me in this one!
ReplyDeleteLove this episode! (You were right about Frankenstein, Cathy!)
ReplyDeleteLittle confused about Victor's reality...is it The Land Without Magic's past (as it would be according to the time and place in Shelly's novel) since he believes in [fringe] science, rather than magic (although I believe they're one in the same, just that there are different quantum mechanics involved), or is he from a horror reality that also does not have magic???
Is there hate? Where?
ReplyDeleteAs Jefferson said in "Hat Trick" every work of fiction in Land Without Magic is "inspired" by an already existing parallel world.
ReplyDeletefrom the hints though, Frankenstein might also be Wizard of Oz too(Jefferson's "We're off to see him" as well as Jefferson calling him a "wizard"), though, making his homeworld, Oz.
That's right, Jefferson did say that! :D
ReplyDeleteI agree with the quantum mechanic science/magic aspects, just my delema goes further with that even the Wizard from the Wizard of Oz was originally from "Kansas" ( a con man-magician) like Dorothy, but I like the prospect of what you're saying and hope it goes that way!
ReplyDeleteGood call! I could buy that Embru could be his brother...
ReplyDeleteyeah, you could say that his "fringe science" reached its limits and thus he required something from parallel dimension to transcend the limits.
ReplyDeleteWhich never ends well.
Yep totally think he could be The Wizard of Oz too! (Hearts + Horse + black and white film + "we're off" + Wizard + green military uniform that may play to WWI/art Noveau aesthetic ---->Emerald City ) IMO all play to Oz IMO.
ReplyDeleteI always go with Arthur C. Clarkes laws...
ReplyDelete1.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I love the show, because EVERYONE is beautifully flawed!
ReplyDeleteI disagree. I would have rather watched an hour of Emma and Snow, and Emma pulling daggers on people and interrogating them and not taking them at their word, that this continual backpedaling of "Oh, these evil people who have killed countless innocents aren't REALLY that bad".
ReplyDeleteAlso, the guy who plays Daniel is such a godawful actor.
@twitter-194353448:disqus Well, for starters, they don't send little children to their deaths, of envelop the land in a curse, or murder innocents (or, for that matter, the undeserving guilty).
ReplyDeleteRegina is evil.
ReplyDeleteThat said, Lana was fantastic, especially when she was trying to pull Charming away from the door so she could see Daniel.
ReplyDeleteBut, while those issues were frustrating, Emma's declaration that she could tell when people were lying to her, became downright laughable to me because of the frequency she would actually *say* she could spot a liar while being lied to.
Daniel is dead again... *tear fest* .Now excuse me,I have to go cry myself to sleep... :'(
ReplyDeleteNot bad.
ReplyDelete- I'm glad Whale is Frankenstein. His character is finally interesting to me. There aren't enough mad scientists on TV these days. (God bless Walter Bishop.)
- Speaking of Fringe, an observer played Igor.
ReplyDeleteI guess, Daniel was...
ReplyDeleteRegina made it difficult to show any compassion toward her when she was the evil queen. Revenge.
ReplyDeleteOMG!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAND Snow is not so innocent.
ReplyDeleteProbably. This wouldn't be enough to explain the backstory, because up until this point, Regina doesn't even know what Jefferson did.
ReplyDeleteAnd, well, personality changes are the highlight of the show, Jefferson is no exception.
True, she didn't even know, so I guess there's more to it later. It's just, I remember reading a spoiler article that said that we will find out why the Queen hated the Mad Hatter, but this episode didn't really show the Queen hating Jefferson. So, as I said, maybe there's more to it later.
ReplyDeleteIt's also been ten years or more. A lot changes in that time.
ReplyDeleteIf they don't murder innocents, what happened to the people when they attacked George's castle?
ReplyDeleteShouldn't his responsibility to keep Henry safe mean that he was actually AT the stables so that Henry wasn't alone with a giant animal he didn't know anything about?
ReplyDeleteAnd if Daniel is SO dangerous that David wanted to kill him, he should have been there to check the outcome. Either he's that dangerous or he's not.
Oh jeezzzzzz. One of these.
ReplyDeleteWe know the next episode is going to be about Emma and Hook climbing the beanstalk. Emma's storyline in FTL made this episode disjointed and should have been cut and placed in the next one. It ruined the pace of this episode and was entirely unnecessary based on what we know is going to happen in the next one.
I thought the same about everything.
ReplyDeleteWhale's whole thing didn't make sense, about bringing Daniel back. They should have taken out the FTL land stuff, put it in the next episode and fleshed Whale's stuff out more.
Same about Charming. He was just a plot device this episode, doing what he needed to do to move plot forward even when things didn't make sense.
What do you mean he's not a villain? You don't think being part of an entire town full of people being murdered is villainous?
ReplyDeleteYep! I live on a horse farm since I was 6 and we used to give lessons to kids and so it is not the smartest thing to leave an unexpired kid with a large animal (especially since the viewers know Henry doesn't always do sensible things)
ReplyDeleteBut that might be what David learned form this -to not leave Henry alone for too long (As David is also learning how to be a father figure), which is why he had to go after him once the adult-capable-of-making-her-own-decisions-Regina decided she could handle Daniel...and she did, despite it didn't go the way she wanted.
But the logic doesn't make sense. he was going to 'put [Daniel] down' because he was too dangerous to the town. But then left him with an hysterical woman who was (wrongly) convinced he wouldn't hurt her.
ReplyDeleteSo either she was going to get killed by someone strong enough to easily rip arms off of men much larger than her and Daniel was still around or what?
Yes. and Regina Refused his help, she BEGGED him to give her a chance to try and 'change' the state of Daniel.
ReplyDeleteIt's just bad writing and makes him seem less like a hero and more like a douche, tbh.
ReplyDeleteBecause then they'd actually have to approach the idea that Henry is an actual changeable character and that Charming can think anything through.
ReplyDeleteI disagree.
ReplyDeleteYes, which is why it should have been about Charming and Henry actually CARING about Regina. He said he cared she was his mother and yet the show has actually yet to portray that even once outside of him saying that she was still his mother. He and Charming didn't even care if she lived or died or if zombie Daniel was coming to rip limbs from other people in Storybrooke.
ReplyDeleteI don't find Charming particularly heroic but I'm pretty sure that's all we;re supposed to find him.
Regina says she wants to be more of a mother too and what she chose is also not motherly behavior. If she's trying to prove herself worthy, she isn't doing a good job. It's not fair to blame Charming for not caring about Regina, when Regina also chooses to make bad or irrational decisions.
ReplyDeleteEvery single character is not perfect and can't live up to an extreme ideal of good and evil.
At this point I have no idea what you're talking about anymore. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteShe had the option to kill/stop Daniel, (or let Charming kill/stop Daniel) and go with Charming to see about Henry, instead of taking a chance and risking her own life and the towns.
ReplyDeleteObviously we all watch shows for different reasons.
ReplyDeletehere is a thought...what if Victor Frankenstien's brother is alive AND is Henry's father? Any thoughts on that?
ReplyDeleteall the awards in the world to lana parilla, now! she broke me in this episode! it was one of my favorite episodes. a lot of storylines going on, but all of them very interesting and captivating. this show has endless possibilities, it's incredible. i feel so sorry for regina though, she really is my favorite character. i am also really digging hook.
ReplyDelete
