It exceeded all of my expectations :) I LOVED IT!!!! I kinda figured Snow and Emma would go back to the fairy tale lands from some interviews that I read, but never imagined that it would have gone done the way it did !!!
That was pretty awesome and theres a lot to talk about lol. First of all in the land that was I liked the B story of Mulan, Aurora and Phillip and the wraith. I thought it worked well although aurora kinda was annoying after she got saved maybe it was better she kept sleeping lol. In the magical land that is now I liked the whole storybrooke story of this. Everyone remembering, I thought the talks were good about it especially the way the writers handled emma, snow and david. Regina man I was liking her no magic side and helping them fight off the wraith but then she gets her powers back! Holy crap i did not see that coming great surprise and holy crap she scared me a little with the vines she got her powers back by emma by the looks of it! i thought she was actually possessed or something for a second lol. Rumplestiltskin was freaking awesome as usual by robert carlyle best actor on the show he IS the villain and the perfect one. I thought him vs emma was great and releasing the wraith on the town was pretty cool. Good effects. Lastly, emma and mary falling into the portal was a good twist and apparently a mini part of the fairytale world survived the curse with mulan, etc. in it and now emma and mary r there. I cant wait to see how they get back and who they have to meet and fight along the way. Great premiere and cant wait for more!
I actually thought it was a pretty fantastic premiere. It got me really excited about the next few episodes. I especially can't wait to see Snow and Emma get to know each other while they fight off everything that fairy land has to throw at them. But poor Charming! He just got his family back and they've been taken away again.
Loved everyone remembering their past, Belle sticking around, and The Charming family being together, however briefly that was. I loved the hug and at least David can get to know Henry now. (BTW I really want to know David/James/Charming's real name, it's been bugging me recently).
Also so want to know who Dr. Whale is and I am anxious to see how everyone else in Storybrooke is now that they all know each other again. Especially Fredrick and Abigail, for some reason in the little time we've seen him, I really like Fredrick.
To clear it up, who was the guy at the beginning of the episode? Was that Phillip or someone else?
Awesome start to the season and major kudos to the writers on the twists and turns in the stories. Great dialogue bits and the mystery of who is Dr Whale? And who is the guy at the beginning? Baelfire?..... things that will make us go hmmmmmm?
it was really a good episode! I was happy when we found out Regina had her powers and she was only faking! now we can only wait for Regina to bring the good stuff! Everything's so different from season 1 that this feels kinda like a new show, which i love! because now the story telling won't be anything like before!
i'm excited to know how this season is gonna play out! i have no idea what's in store for our characters, and that is the best and worst feeling in the t.v. series world :P
I almost forgot about Baelfire. If it was him, I wonder if August's wooden state was broken and he sent the post card? That is, if Baelfire was the person August was in contact with.
I really think the guy at the beginning was Rumpelstiltskin's son. I don't know why. Maybe it's because he didn't seem really surprise that the bird dropped off a note or if it's because that's who I want him to be. There was just something about him that made me think he was from the fairy tale world and the only other character could be outside of Storybrooke is Rumpelstiltskin's son. Or maybe it's Henry's dad???
And I can't BELIEVE THAT SNOW WHITE slept with David's doctor!! You know, the guy from the Vampire Diaries guy? David Anders. He was in the episode, kind of. We don't know who his fairy tale character is. But he works for Regina. He treated Henry when he took a bite of the apple turnover.
I loved this so much! I thought, how can they better Season one? Well, guess they showed me..lol I love that Emma is in Fairy-tale land, it will show her what a hero her mom is and maybe she'll learn "why"she had to give her up....But I have a Q....Did anyone see the very end when they mentioned future visitors..and one guy said, "Lancelot"!..oh ya..I am so excited, I'm going to burst...lol
Amazing episode. Now to see how Emma, Snow, Aurora, and Mulan get out of that situation. And am I the only one who wants to see a Hook vs. Stilskin(sp?) fight? That would be awesome.
I keep forgetting how insanely cute Jamie Chung is. She's sexy when she needs to be for a sexy role, but every other time she's cute. Great, a triangle involving her. That should be...so not fun.
And Ginnifer Goodwin! You're a lucky guy, Josh. I bet it doesn't hurt to see that beautiful smile every day. I see they glossed over Snow admitting to a one night stand, but I have a feeling it's going to come up again. Besides, I seriously doubt Charming didn't sleep with his "wife" while under effects of the curse.
I'm glad to see that they Emma isn't exactly going to accept her parents so easily. As she said, even if they sent her away to protect her, that doesn't change the fact that for 28 years she believed her parents didn't want her. She spent her life alone. That's not an easy thing to dismiss, no matter the circumstances.
Robert Carlyle is still brilliant as Mr. Gold. He's such a fun villain.
That stuck out to me as well. But after re-watching Regina and Gold talk about Belle I began to think she, for some reason, was refusing to admit that she'd never been under the curse; that she didn't want anyone to know that she knew everyone's original identity the whole time.
Loved the ep. Lots of great moments. (Charming: Snow don't push it. Snow: Emma we have to talk.)
Now. Can we have Whale's story next please? Very curious to see who the dude in the city is. I think I love the idea of Snow and Emma being sent to Fairytale Land. Hopefully Emma can get her mojo back. :-)
I loved the end twist, I was thinking that the hat had sent them to past fairytaleland from the spoilers, like with the apple; never occurred to me that it still exists! That is really interesting.
Loved this ep, special mention to "don't push it" "we need to talk *hunchback* Give Charming and Snow their own sitcom!
This was even better than I expected - loved everything the scenes between the Charmings got me teary, and I knew Emma would have magic!!!!!!!! she got the hat to work!!! seriously can't wait for the next episode. The FTL scenes were also interesting I like Mulan - she looks like the kind of character you don't mess with LOL and now I'm thinking the giant sink hole we've seen in pics is going to be the connection to Storybrooke?. The episode did not disappoint!.
This might have already been said but - I think Regina got her powers back because Emma put her hand on her shoulder? and at the same time made the hat work - IMO Emma has magic.
-So much better than I expected (and my expectations were a little high!). -Although it's not Wonderland after all, I am glad that FTL also revived and their are people left behind there and we have this nice along side parallel universe! -Love the Eastern (Asian) Influences. With a 'soul sucker' and large marking coin. It was like watching a live action anime! -I want to know if Regina is a little less evil after that, or the oppositie. And does she really forget Jefferson????? Mulan was great! Also interesting that Gold (dark one) can summon them! (Very Smoke Monster again!) -Bell's response to everything is interesting. I am surprised nothing magical happened when they kissed, but I love that she thinks she can save him. - It seems we met adult Bae in the opening scene (who I suspect will be the Beaman character) -Knew Emma wouldn't exactly be on board with the whole princess thing and was glad she tried to tell them what they did really wasn't a good thing for her. - It's sort of interesting the Henry has almost lost his faith now the curse is broken. I thought it might have made him even more intense, but now he is full of uncertainty. - It was also then just as interesting to see David/Charming almost choose to kill Regina. It shows he has a little bit more of bite than I thought. -Poor Philip. That was really sad. I wonder if the Aurora and Mulan will find other happiness. - Like that the magical smoke was called "Purple Haze" (Jimmy Hendrix and C. Dickens!) -So nice little Fringe -esque song--which also consist of a line 'purple haze' found in C. Dickens "Great Expectations" (Abrams and H. & K. reference Dickens in Lost, but Great Expectations is specifically in Felicity) -Loved Snows reunion with Red especially. -Love Mr. Whale's confrontation towards Regina. Can't wait to see if I'm right or wrong about whom I think he is (Jack in the Beanstalk/Jonah and the Whale) -Regina reaction to not having magic was priceless!
Most definately! XD Great comparison! I know that in Japanese anime/manga there are a lot stories about demon/devil hunting too, but I am also reminded of "shadow weaver" from Masters of the Universe so it's seems like something that shares a bend with Medieval culture too!
I don't think he is dead and according to an interview with the head writers he isn't dead. It is a matter of finding out if he can get soul back from the soul sucker.
Because of the summoning and the screaming voices aspect of the soul sucker, I thought of the smoke monster again...I'm wondering if there will astral projections/time displacement issues somewhere down the line???? I would like to think that there could be creative ways to show these characters again down the line...
I was so excited for this episode. I did worry about the growing confusion and plot holes, but I had hoped given some posters' fervent belief that everything would make sense that maybe I was wrong in my fears and it would all work out beautifully. I was also dying to meet Sleeping Beauty as she is my favorite. Unfortunately, they made her a whiny twit, Philip died in the first episode, and they'd written in a crazy love triangle with Mulan. Thereby, also destroying my hope for bringing in Shang. Awesome-sauce. They did give us some more information while contorting themselves into a pretzel trying to come up with new reasons not to kill the lady who had tried to them multiple times, cursed Snow twice, kidnapped a world (well most of it), assassinated a King, killed the sheriff, attempted to kill Katherine, and she wasn't stopping any time soon. But definitely things learned.
Okay, so what do we know: 1) Time in FTL is the same as time here, so Bae should be old, or as one poster pointed out like dead. 2) Maleficient's story no longer makes sense: in episode 2, Sleeping Beauty had already gotten the best of her, back when Regina was with Daniel and Snow was a child, and Maleficient had moved on from revenge and gotten a pet. 3) The whole "every fairytale character you know was banished to our world" was a lie. Major fairytale characters were left behind inexplicably. Let's hope that if all of FTL didn't make it across, no other dimensions did either. And whatever zone was protected is oddly shaped because Philip was in it, Aurora was in it, but the dragon guarding Aurora wasn't. 4) We now have three timelines to deal with and one already doesn't make sense. If the wraith that Rumple pulled out of Zelda and sent after Regina was sent to FTL through the hat, that was days before he soul sucked Phillip, so why the delay in Emma and Snow coming through--save to try and trick the audience with silliness. The wraith pulled Emma in so they should have been traveling together given that they were in physical contact. Or are there two wraiths and it is wrong to blame Snow and Emma for sending it as Mulan/Aurora did at the end? 5) The curse meant no one was with who they loved so Emma's "at least we'd be together" was ridiculously silly. She would have been a permanent infant, no one would have ever broken the curse, so it pretty much would have been like she never existed. Henry would never have existed. Is she saying that she would have preferred to have never existed? She doesn't seem *that* tortured. 6) Why are we still calling people by their Storybrooke names? They start out all Red, Snow, Charming and then switch into Gold, David, Mary Margaret. 7) Whatever Charming/David/James started out, he married a princess, so he's a prince and he acts like a prince so Regina's whole speech made no sense. 8) Charming is adorable with Henry. But why do they keep minimizing or killing off all the leading men? There is a serious shortage of guys on this show. 9) They are really reaching trying to come up with reasons to help and to not kill Regina. She's not toothless and she's not going to stop trying to kill them, so if they can't contain her and they can't punish her, they should really be able to kill her. All these rationales just make "good" look stupid and incompetent. And that's frustrating to me, because I like heroes.
Maybe next week Snow will kick butt, Charming will be delightful, and I can stop trying to pay attention. Because it really is better that way.
I thought the actress playing Regina conveyed (fairly convincingly imo), via her facial expressions during those lines, that she was only pretending she didn't know who Jefferson was. I don't think it was memory loss at all, as other people here mentioned.
Loved the Sleeping Beauty story and the fact that it was happening in present day! Julian Morris did a great job as Prince Philip but I hope we see him again! Love the twist with Emma/Snow being stuck in fairy tale land!
Fantastic episode, and imo, the best premiere I've seen this season! I was worried the writers and showrunners wouldn't be able to keep the level of storytelling and quality from season 1, as so many shows had that trouble, but OUaT once again amazes and surprises me with each episode they do. This episode showed a glimpse of this season's journey, and I must say, I'm so excited to follow the characters in their adventures! My sisters and I love fairy tales & mythic fantasy stories and this show really delivered.
- The sets & CGI improved! - I am SO, so excited to see the quality of the sets and CGI has gotten better from last season. I think part of that has to do with using less of the CGI, but either way, I am very happy with the visuals from this ep. Could be improved, but I am happy with it so far. The landscape is amazingly beautiful. I love it when a show takes advantage of the natural beauty of the landscapes. - Storybrooke & FTL - I'm happy with how the show explained why they're not back in FTL. Very cool explanations about both Storybrooke and FTL (ie, large parts were destroyed, some pockets still exist in the "lands" of FTL), and gives the showrunners an excuse to keep the story in modern day settings. - Characters - I wanted the characters to start calling each other their FTL names. "Mary Margaret" conjures up the weakling, nun-name-like character Snow was, while in Storybrooke. Same with the other characters. With their cooler (imo) FTL names, were cooler FTL characters, as opposed to the weaker, cursed versions of themselves in Storybrooke. I suppose if this season goes through character development for the main 'players', showing them starting to get their FTL mojo back, they can start being called their FTL names again. Gold was immediately referred to as "Rumple" by Regina already, and Regina was already being referred to as "The Queen". We just need the "good" guys to start getting their characters' mojo back too. - Emma & Snow - Now that Emma's stuck in FTL, I suppose she'll have a pretty quick learning curve into having to accept that FTL exists, and that her mom really is Snow White. ;) I find that amusing, considering how she was so adamant last season about rejecting the notion that the fairy tale stuff was real. I'm really looking forward to mother-daughter bonding time, and Emma seeing how cool her mom is, in FTL. And yes, Emma certainly has magic within her. I think the showrunners mentioned in interviews that certain people from FTL were born with magical abilities and some aren't. Emma does, and she'll have to figure out for herself what she's capable of. I find the writers' ideas regarding Emma's development, to be very exciting. I'm really looking forward to that journey too. (Side note: my sister commented on how, once the curse broke, maybe Snow would get her long curly hair back too; but alas, she still has the short hair. I found my sister's idea amusing, so I had to share. ;) I have to agree with her though. I liked Snow's longer hair better too.)
Loved loved loved the episode. Loved seeing everyone back together, and all the reunions (Snowing, Charming family, dwarves, etc.) Lana was, as usual, terrific, and I adored Aurora and Phillip...Mulan, however, not so much...I thought she was alittle TOO cruel to Aurora (especially since Aurora hadn't done anything but be awakened by Phillip and Mulan knew she wasn't aware of the curse or it's effects), and I'm in no way interested in seeing a love triangle between Mulan and Aurora/Phillip...no thanks. Some great moments and one-liners for sure.
I just took it as Regina once again trying to hide her connections and cover her ass like she always does. I never expect Regina to admit anything unless someone confronts her with irrefutable proof.
Great episode. - I don't mind the lingering bitterness or rivalry between Sleeping Beauty and Mulan but I'm glad they quickly snuffed out any triangle by snuffing out the prince. - I guess everyone who is a fan of Emma / Snow scenes (including me) is getting their wish. - I'm not sure what to make of Belle's decision to go back. I'm hoping OUAT doesn't turn her pure-hearted nature into something naive and foolish. - Regina is still being Regina, with a few added cracks in her evil armor. - OUAT used Dr. Hopper just enough to remind us he's still on the show, as usual. - I agree with Matt Mitovich. "We were cursed" is the new "we were on a break!" - The new guy at the beginning is probably Bae but I wish they had chosen a different actor. - Still don't know who Whale is but I don't really care much either. - The Blue Fairy needs a name besides Mother Superior. It's weird to go around calling someone "Blue Fairy."
Most interesting: Emma's magic. The big question is - Is the extent of Emma's magic just an ability to kickstart magic in others or does she have magic of her own that she can wield?
I know, right?! At first I found it funny, and I thought she was just pretending not to know anything about him, just as she tried to fool Gold at first. But now, I don't think that's the case. She seemed genuinely puzzled, so that got me thinking...What if she did lose parts of her memory and identity while she was in the grip of the "wraith" (aka soul-sucker aka dementor)?
I think your last question is good one! It kind of reminded me of "being touched by Jacob". But they also made point to say that magic works different in Storybrooke, so I am wondering if Emma only has magic there or if you're right and she just kick starts some of the others...Will be interesting to see how that plays out with her.
I think the fact that The Blue Fairy is Mother Superior is intentional as she is the least humanized character. And mother superior has a negative cogitation to it. (Mother Russia, the mother ship, ect). The Asian influence in conjunction to Gold I thought was interesting as Eastern Philosophy is often about teaching dematerialization, like Nuns do, considering Gold has many material objects in his position, especially the dagger...I don't know why, and I could be wrong, but I just get such a cold feeling from her, that I have hard time thinking she's really good.
This just beat all of my expectations. It was amazing from the beggining until the end. I don't recall going through an episode of a show in recent memory in which I literally had no idea which direction things were going next. It was amazing, really. I think that if they keep this up, season 2 will be even better than season 1. So amazing!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
That was awesome! I literally loved everything about it.
ReplyDeleteI loved everything about it!!
ReplyDeleteI cried like 5 times during the episode!!
ReplyDeleteIt was amazing!!! Such a great episode!
ReplyDeleteonly gave it a great because I am tired of Charming and Snow never being together for long. Otherwise it would be an awesome.
ReplyDeleteIt exceeded all of my expectations :) I LOVED IT!!!! I kinda figured Snow and Emma would go back to the fairy tale lands from some interviews that I read, but never imagined that it would have gone done the way it did !!!

P.S.: WHALE!? WHO R U!???!! The way u reacted to both regina and then david im guessing ur not a good guy lol.
ReplyDeleteBest Line of the episode :
ReplyDeleteCharming: One night stands?
Snow: Whale
Charming:Whale?!
Snow:We were cursed (and gives charming the hand)
That was freaking Awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI loved that and Gold's response to Belle's "I thought you'd changed." - "What, in the hour you've known me?"
ReplyDeleteI actually thought it was a pretty fantastic premiere. It got me really excited about the next few episodes. I especially can't wait to see Snow and Emma get to know each other while they fight off everything that fairy land has to throw at them. But poor Charming! He just got his family back and they've been taken away again.
ReplyDeleteThose wraith things were totally dementors.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, I loved the episode. Emma/Snow scenes were the BEST.
The next few episodes is where the story will either shine or fall apart. This was a nice start to the season.
ReplyDeleteLoved it! Great start to the season.
ReplyDeleteLoved everyone remembering their past, Belle sticking around, and The Charming family being together, however briefly that was. I loved the hug and at least David can get to know Henry now. (BTW I really want to know David/James/Charming's real name, it's been bugging me recently).

OH GODS, how can this show get more and more AND MORE awesome with each episode?
ReplyDeleteBrilliant premiere, brilliant twists, brilliant character development.
OUAt continues to be hands down amongst the BEST shows on tv.
I almost forgot about Baelfire. If it was him, I wonder if August's wooden state was broken and he sent the post card? That is, if Baelfire was the person August was in contact with.
ReplyDeleteI don't think she was faking, more like Emma ''activated'' her power. The hat didn't work 'til Emma touched her.
ReplyDeleteright! i didn't remember that part! so Emma really is capable of doing things she's not aware of, that's interesting.
ReplyDeleteyeah! i thought the same thing!
ReplyDeletethey absolutely pulled a Harry Potter
I really think the guy at the beginning was Rumpelstiltskin's son. I don't know why. Did anyone else notice the part with the hat?
ReplyDelete"That's the hat."
"What are you talking about?"
"That's Jefferson's hat."
"Who's Jefferson?"
I found that to be the weirdest thing in the episode.
Did the Blue Fairy send that postcard to the man I assume is Baelfire?
ReplyDeleteReally great start to the season :) loved the development in the story. looking forward to the next episode
ReplyDeleteActually, I think it's the other way around. Wraith's have been around longer. And that admission just makes me feel OLD. :-D
ReplyDeleteThat stuck out to me as well. But after re-watching Regina and Gold talk about Belle I began to think she, for some reason, was refusing to admit that she'd never been under the curse; that she didn't want anyone to know that she knew everyone's original identity the whole time.

ReplyDeleteI think the guy at the beginning is Rumpelstiltskin's son as well.
ReplyDeleteI was so excited for this episode.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so what do we know:
1) Time in FTL is the same as time here, so Bae should be old, or as one poster pointed out like dead.
ReplyDeleteI agree with @prpleight:disqus, Harry Potter took that reference from the concept of wraiths, which have been around for a long, long time.
ReplyDeleteI was waiting for Snow to snap back ''you were married to Katherine!''
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly, she paused from the time Emma said his name, she even changed her expression and then played innocent!
ReplyDeleteLoved the Sleeping Beauty story and the fact that it was happening in present day!
ReplyDeleteJulian Morris did a great job as Prince Philip but I hope we see him again!
ReplyDeleteI had some more thoughts from the episode:
ReplyDelete- The sets &
CGI improved! - I am SO, so excited to see the quality of the sets and
CGI has gotten better from last season. I think part of that has to do
with using less of the CGI, but either way, I am very happy with the
visuals from this ep. Could be improved, but I am happy with it so far.
The landscape is amazingly beautiful. I love it when a show takes
advantage of the natural beauty of the landscapes.
- Storybrooke
& FTL - I'm happy with how the show explained why they're not back
in FTL. Very cool explanations about both Storybrooke and FTL (ie, large
parts were destroyed, some pockets still exist in the "lands" of FTL),
and gives the showrunners an excuse to keep the story in modern day settings.
-
Characters - I wanted the characters to start calling each other their
FTL names. "Mary Margaret" conjures up the weakling, nun-name-like
character Snow was, while in Storybrooke. Same with the other
characters. With their cooler (imo) FTL names, were cooler FTL
characters, as opposed to the weaker, cursed versions of themselves in
Storybrooke. I suppose if this season goes through character development
for the main 'players', showing them starting to get their FTL mojo
back, they can start being called their FTL names again. Gold was
immediately referred to as "Rumple" by Regina already, and Regina was
already being referred to as "The Queen". We just need the "good" guys
to start getting their characters' mojo back too.
- Emma & Snow -
Now that Emma's stuck in FTL, I suppose she'll have a pretty quick
learning curve into having to accept that FTL exists, and that her mom
really is Snow White. ;) I find that amusing, considering how she was so
adamant last season about rejecting the notion that the fairy tale
stuff was real. I'm really looking forward to mother-daughter bonding
time, and Emma seeing how cool her mom is, in FTL. And yes, Emma
certainly has magic within her. I think the showrunners mentioned in
interviews that certain people from FTL were born with magical abilities
and some aren't. Emma does, and she'll have to figure out for herself
what she's capable of. I find the writers' ideas regarding Emma's
development, to be very exciting. I'm really looking forward to that
journey too.
(Side note: my sister commented on how, once the curse broke, maybe Snow
would get her long curly hair back too; but alas, she still has the
short hair. I found my sister's idea amusing, so I had to share. ;) I
have to agree with her though. I liked Snow's longer hair better too.)
twitter was going crazy last night wit Harry Potter and the dementors, comparing the wraith to the dememtors...Me,i like smokemonster ;)
ReplyDeleteLoved loved loved the episode.
ReplyDeleteI just took it as Regina once again trying to hide her connections and cover her ass like she always does. I never expect Regina to admit anything unless someone confronts her with irrefutable proof.
ReplyDeleteGreat episode.
ReplyDelete- I don't mind the lingering bitterness or rivalry between Sleeping Beauty and Mulan but I'm glad they quickly snuffed out any triangle by snuffing out the prince.
"We were cursed" is the new "we were on a break!"
- The new guy at the beginning is probably Bae but I wish they had chosen a different actor.
ReplyDeleteI think your last question is good one! It kind of reminded me of "being touched by Jacob". But they also made point to say that magic works different in Storybrooke, so I am wondering if Emma only has magic there or if you're right and she just kick starts some of the others...Will be interesting to see how that plays out with her.
ReplyDeleteI think the fact that The Blue Fairy is Mother Superior is intentional as she is the least humanized character.
Yeah, now that you point it out, there are some major plot-holes. yikes.
ReplyDeleteThank you. THANK-YOU!
ReplyDeleteThis just beat all of my expectations. It was amazing from the beggining until the end. I don't recall going through an episode of a show in recent memory in which I literally had no idea which direction things were going next. It was amazing, really. I think that if they keep this up, season 2 will be even better than season 1. So amazing!
ReplyDeleteLoved the Charming and the one night stand scene. So sad that Charming loses Snow and Emma just after he finds them again!!
ReplyDeleteHenry's actor is just different. Is he still the same?
ReplyDeleteYep, just older!
