  1. Is it just more or did they actually downplay Lisbon's negative reaction to Jane and Lorelei in their previous interview? They acted like she would have a mild reaction to them, but I saw far more than that.

  2. Loved it, but a little frustrated Lorelei got away, though I saw that coming.

  3. I actually can't describe how amazing that episode was. AND ANGRY LISBON, THOUGH. Also, the Jane/Lisbon moments were beautiful. It's unbelievable what this show does to me.

  4. if this season is going to be lisbon being jealous while jane romances lorelei, I will stop watching. I will give it 3 or 4 episodes to see, but no more. The show used to be really good. Lisbon used to be such a strong character, but starting last season she just gives in to whatever jane wants to do, and they are writing her like a pathetic high school girl with a crush on the star football player. ugh

  5. Wait, your issue is Lisbon not being strong? Did you actually SEE this episode? At the end of the day she's Jane's best friend and she knows how much catching Red John means to him, that's not about giving in to whatever he wants to do.

  6. I think they portrayed Lisbon a lot stronger and more edgy here than they did for most of season 4, and while I enjoyed her sweet companionship with Jane last season, I liked this here, too.
Personally, I feel much closer to her character now then I did in season 1, I think it's natural that she changed, and her relationship with Jane is beautiful and believable. I don't think that they will only concentrate on her jealousy, which is a mixture of personal and professional reasons (Jane HAS a tendency to go too far, and romancing a suspect in order to turn her means walking the edge), but their relationship will evolve after last season's finale, and that's a natural process.
I don't say that it will end in a full-fledged love story anytime soon, but Lisbon's ability to love him (romantically or not, that depends on how you want to see it) despite his flaws is one of her strong features... who else would be really able to put up with him?
She's the closest person he has, and the same is true for her. She had to become more flexible over time, and like it was already said- she is his best friend, and his business concerns her. In season 1, she pretty much treated him like a stern governess... that couldn't carry the show over all these seasons. They have to get closer, because if there's no one Jane really cares for despite his murdered family, the show would be extremely boring and painful to watch.
I'm a little worried about Lorelei's escape, too, and I must admit, I didn't see it coming. I think she's more dangerous in freedom than she's in jail, and her possibilities to mess with him will be more varied now. That is, if she shows up again, and Heller han't been deceiving us again... on the other hand- we were promised all these informations about Red John, and how is Jane supposed to get them if not via Lorelei?
Can't wait to see more, for me, this was an excellent start to an exciting season!

  9. Good episode if predictable. Especially with Lorelei, could see that coming a mile away. I enjoy the series but it seems a bit stale. I want more Cho.......

  10. I tend to agree with Peter and yes I did watch the episode.

  11. This season premier wasn't exactly spectacular; pretty predictable in fact. I was glad to see that Lisbon has become stronger as a boss and not lost at Jane's hands. I do hope this is the last season for Red John. Serial killers have been known to work for decades before they are caught but this one is playing With law enforcement and has become more of a murderer than a systematic serial killer that he has become infamous as.

  12. What I didn't believe in season 1 is supposedly they had been working together for five years when we open the series.

  13. A laissez-faire of predictableness. Enjoyable but not a strong season opener. If The Mentalist doesn't shape up quick fast and in a hurry, it will be bumped for Elementary as I only have room/patience for two procedurals in my schedule this season and Person of Interest has the #1 slot. Red John still has a friend in the CBI (yes, Bertram, I'm looking at you) as well as the FBI. I need a good strong lead on Red John by mid-season or I'll just wait for the summer to power watch what I missed.

  14. Showrunner has hinted there will be huge revelations concerning John Red and a much more darker Jane. I think this season will be one not to be missed :-)

  15. Predictable trick and case especially if you're a loyal worshiper of the show, BUT a great start for a unique season.
CBI vs FBI battle, high intensity Lisbon which we never seen before (excellent job on Robin who stepped up her acting, it looks really natural) that's new and make sense to me especially after what she's been through since last finale.
Lisbon perfectly portrayed her character as Jane's best friend in a unique and interesting way (unlike any other shows, believe me I watched tons of show). And with Jane x Lisbon relationship escalating to a different level, this is new and interesting to watch. Also Jane calling her 'boss' it's really cute, something different.

The mentalist has the most complex character in television history I believed that, and right now we are the heart of it.
Overall I think the crimson ticket shows the mentalist from a different angle. I feel different emotions watching this episode. Great script as usual. "Its sort of general purpose apology, use it for your top issues" best line of the eps.
IT'S GONNA BE A UNIQUE SEASON!

  16. Yes, I saw it. She was all bark and no bite, She let him interview Lorelei alone, which was completely inappropriate and unprofessional given their sexual relationship. She knew he lied about the red beads in the hearing, and didn't say anything (let him get away with lying to a judge). She threatens to keep him away from Lorelei but in the end gives in...as always. Frankly, it is clear that his plans regarding Red John NEVER work. It probably has something to do with his emotional involvement in the case. And now his emotional involvement with Lorelei (and yes, I do believe he has some feelings for her) will impact his judgement even more (remember how Erica Flynn manipulated him?) If Lisbon was being strong, she would put a stop to it.
