  1. Best episode of dexter since season 4 finale

  2. I'm glad they did not drag out Deb figuring things out. I was going to be annoyed if it went on for multiple episodes.....

Barely recognized Ray Stevenson as the Russian crime lord.So rarely see him with a full head of styled hair and wearing a suit! XD

A nice start to the new season.

  3. just...like..omg wow!!!! i don't even know. i was so worried we'd go forever Deb piecing it together....from the moment Dexter walking in to find Deb and his stuff all over the place until after the credits rolled i don't think i breathed. this season may just rock like the DEXTER of old:)

    ReplyDelete
  4. So glad Deb figured it out so quickly. I was hoping (based on the preview for the season) she would find the slides by the end of the 1st episode and find out all about Dex in the 2nd. That whole last minute I had chills, mouth hanging open, thinking how awesome it was!

That being said... best episode in a very long time!

  5. It was a nice surprise (at least for me) to see Victor from Dollhouse on tonight's episode. Too bad he didn't last long but it sets up the rest of the season nicely.

  6. Enver will always be Victopher to me. He has such an awesome range that it made me a bit sad to see they typecasted him as "Generic Russian Thug".

  7. I can never watch an episode of Dexter without screaming at the TV at the end.

    ReplyDelete
  8. This is going to be the best season of Dexter ever, I can already feel it.
Now they just have to find a serial killer equal or better than Trinity and we're good to go.

  9. I thought maybe my excitement would lower to a manageable level after watching the first episode, but it was good that it just amped me up even more for the rest of the season.

First off I have to say that I think that Jennifer Carpenter did a phenomenonal job in tonight's episode. Here acting skills haven't always been top notch on the show, but tonight she totally knocked it out of the park. Deb really seemed to be trying to hold it together, but with Carpenter's acting you could slowly see her unraveling as she began to piece it all together and got scared of the truth.

And Michael C. Hall was brilliant as usual. It's always great to see Dexter feel like he's losing control and it was interesting to watch him have to try to keep lying to try to make Deb believe that Travis was an accident and to see it slowly dawn on him that his lies weren't working and that the truth was going to come out.

Can't wait for next week's episode and to see the full fallout and confrontation between Deb and Dexter now that she knows the truth! I have a feeling this is going to be my favorite season.

  10. This is definitely
gonna be the best season ever.

    Michael and
Jennifer both did a brilliant job. I'm glad she figured it so quickly. She's a
good cop. And I still believe that she always assumed that there is more to her
brother, she just accepted some things and ignored the rest. After all he is
all she got left. And as Harry said, she loves who she thinks Dex is. I'm also
surprised, that he tried to tell her (flashback). Why? Harry told him not to
tell anyone. And he wanted to tell his sister to comfort her? I hope, we get to
see more flashbacks. Could clear some things up.

    I can't
wait for next ep when she punches him. That is gonna be sooo good.

    And I kind
of feel sorry for Dex. He tried so carefully to hide this side of himself from
her. Now she knows. The moment of truth: can she accept it?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Thought it was great! Super intense!!!!!!! (A Reviewer on NPR said the first 3 eps are disatisfing to him! I think he's nuts!)

-Dexter in 'black" = Brian Mode (Nebraska) -Dexter acted way more condescending, and didn't do things right. Left the blood slide behind, plastic on Travis Marshall didn't fully burn, Went after Victor in daylight and he dumped Victor whole!
    - Miami Airport may mean S5 juxtapositions.

-Louis Greene mirrors Dexter, also got way darker. Don't know what he's doing with the computers....

-Issac seems like a great Villain to want to kill (along with LaGeurta), but I suspect we could have other problems...
-It was nice to have Deb remember that Dexter saved her life, but it's so strange how she is reacting, incredibly moral all the sudden.
-I worry for Masuka already (why do I get a bad feeling that LaGeurta is going to come on to him or something???)
-Looks like Quinn and Angel didn't get anywhere...
-Burning of the Church = Burning of Doakes - Full circle time - S2 Elements
    - Prada-->Prado (Movie: Serendipity???) -Hints that Issac and his crime syndicate and perhaps other things may have season 3 (Prado brothers) elements.
-One of the few episodes that loops back a little in time. I thought it worked well here.
-Loved the final scene, including the hand being among all the other belongings...

    ReplyDelete
  12. I agree. I think there's something we're missing from their past. It feels like there's something missing.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It was a long painful wait for this episode but the wait for the next is going to be even worse, despite being shorter.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Knew that these things were going to happen, practically screaming at my screen anyway... =P Glad that Debra finally figured it out! Yet again, this is not going to be the season where I will start to like LaGuerta, haha, thought it would happen when she was with Batista, but even then it seemed impossible!

  15. Hated the title and hated the end line 'Are you... are you a serial killer?' I hate writers who pretend that their women characters are strong, smart and capable when in reality they are suffering from a severe case of Lois Lane syndrome. It's about friggin' time she figured this out. I wasn't that impressed with this episode. More annoyed than anything. Later Anderson. I hope Masuka will be joining you shortly. And if the writers are in the right mind, La Guerta will meet her maker soon as well. Time to clean house and set the stage for the end game.

    ReplyDelete
  16. OK so I hated season 6 with a burning passion, everything about it was either predictable (oh look Papa Adama is dead no one guessed that at all!), had stupid twists (Debs is in love with Dexter) and was bogged down with a load of boring secondary characters.

So I was going to sit this season out but then I saw that it got positive reviews and a saw some gifs of the final scene and it turns out I can't stay away from this show.

I still think it has some problems like killing of characters that are interesting (this time round Mike who I liked) but keeping others around who are so past their used by date (Quinn how how how are you still alive?)

Yet I have to say I was impressed by this episode. It was great seeing Debs putting it altogether what I kind of hated in recent seasons is how Dexter has undermined Debs career with his actions but this time round she got to show what a great cop she is.

I really hope the season can continue to be this strong and not fall back into its usual problems.

  17. Possible. I think Dexters feelings for Deb are way more than sister/brother feelings. But I also think that it's not the same kind of feeling Deb has for him (sexual). I don't know why I have this feeling. Well, as he said in S1, if he could have feelings he would have them for Deb. From other flashbacks we know, that he always protected her (like in high school) and that he got hurt when he tried to get some toy of her back (or something like that). From Debs therapy we know, that they were always close, even as kids. That he was her safe place, the one, she could always relay on. But the breakthrough was today. As kid he tried to tell her the truth about himself to comfort her (because of the dog. You think, it's possible that he wouldn't have kill that dog to not hurt Deb?). Why would a sociopath do that? As sociopath he shouldn't have feelings (like guild) and he shouldn't care about what others feel.
    We need more flashbacks.

  18. A really solid premiere episode. The last scene really brought it home with an exclamation point. This was a good jump start to the season.

    - I'm glad they seem to be putting a pin in all of the Quinn dysfunction. That was annoying.
    - LaGuerta looking into Dexter is a good thing. That means death is a good possibility.
    - Louis needs to die as soon as possible. I can't stand that guy.
    - They did a good job with Deb's logical and emotional progression throughout the episode. I was afraid that her not figuring out Dexter right away would make her look like an idiot. Thankfully, they avoided that.
    - I feel bad for Billy Brown, a.k.a. Mike Anderson. He's second only to Maria Doyle Kennedy (Sonya) as far as wasted characters go on Dexter.

  19. I had every intention of watching last season. When I started to run out of space on my TiVo I copied the files to my hard drive. Still haven't watched them. But I did tune into the premiere last night.

I don't think I'm going to have a problem keeping up this season. Really great episode. I have always love Harry trying to be the best Dad he could and really liked the flashback moment where Dexter assured Harry that he wouldn't hurt something Deb loved. That final scene between them...was awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  20. granted I missed last season...but my first thought to your suggestion that LaGeurta comes on to Masuka...was..'I don't think Masuka would have a problem with that' :-) Second thought...it might be a disaster but it would be a fun one to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  21. That is why I know Dexter isn't a complete sociopath because he has been asking himself questions from the beginning. He keeps trying to make connections and justify his own actions constantly. However, I also think in theory, he could become more of one...Between "Doomsday" and the Death of Brother Sam led to the ability for him to be able to change his dark passenger, and if it happens again either with Brian or otherwise, it could be a real slippery slope for him. Even in this episode I noticed he was wearing a black t-shirt, something he normally doesn't wear, but did when Brian took Harry's place last season. And just like that time, he did a lot of things wrong...things that could get him caught....

I do think they could have a romantic relationship, simply because there is some kind of deep deep bond between them. -But at this point, I think it's going to be while before Deb goes back to thinking about that. But I feel like with Deb especially there is something we're missing...some reason why she slept at the foot of his bed like a pet dog...Sometimes I think that maybe Deb was sexually or physically abused and has blocked it, but I could be wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It would be fun!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have theory that everything we've seen is a dream and that all of the characters are fractured pieces to some truth we don't know, but perhaps Harry is the actual serial killer....Mike starts out nice polite, but then he gets more aggressive and mouthy and in some ways I think he reflects a little of Doakes....But what else is kind of interesting is that LaGeurta did not want Deb to pick Mike and now he's dead...so between this and Bay Harbor Butcher stuff that seems like it is resurfacing, also could set up a great season of Deb verses LaGuerta...who's gonna survive. Quinn I think reflects the young version of Harry (he looks a little like a young Clint Eastwood = Dirty Harry) So I kind of think it's important that he is still here, especially since he was SO close to catching Dexter back in S5...Imagine if he and LaGuerta team up! It could be really scary....

    ReplyDelete
  24. Me too but I'd rather see him play "Generic Russian Thug" than not have Victopher in the show. (I like the name mash up BTW)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Absolutely loved this episode! It's finally happening!

I'm thinking/hoping LaGuerta buys it this season, with her little side investigation.
I think the next episode will have Dexter going after Louis, once he starts tidying up the apartment and sees the arm there (or else Debs will point it out).

I don't have a credit card, and not from the US, but would he have not received an email/call about his cards being cancelled?

  26. Brother Sam said, that he sees the darkness in Dex. But also the light. I think, he is right. I think, that Harry represents this good part of him, his consciousness. Always telling him to make sure he's got the right one, not to kill an innocent, … Brian was representing his darkness (his dark passenger).

Since the beginning he had feelings for Deb. And although he was in the beginning with Rita just to fit in, not to raise suspicion, he liked and then loved (as far as he is capable of) her and the children. What sociopath does that? What did he said? He liked children and he could never do that to them (hurt or kill them). And he was so messed up after Rita died. And he is such a good dad for Baby Harry (not quite a baby anymore). Not normal sociopath behavior.

I agree with you that there is more to him than just a sociopathic serial killer with a good act.

Something could have happen to Deb. But, … I don't know. Dex wouldn't hurt her. He cared for her, since the beginning. He wanted to tell her the truth as kid and he couldn't kill her when Brain wanted him to. What more proof of love can a sociopath show you (having you ready on the table and not killing you)? Besides: If Dex would have done anything to her, Harry would have noticed. But on the other hand, he was too busy with Dex. But they also made clear, that Dex talks to Harry about everything, especially about his urges to hurt and kill. So Dex would have said something (if he is getting the feeling that he want's or has to hurt his sister). Or not, if he was afraid and he did something to Deb on purpose.

Harry would never do anything to Deb. He loved her. That is why he trained Dex. To protect him from getting caught, to protect innocent people and especial his own family.

But I agree that Debs behavior is more than weird. Sleeping on the floor next to his bed? Weird. Maybe that is just proof, that she felt safer with him than her parents. What is telling you this? And she said something about nightmares. What were they about? It could be a revelation to know that. Could clear many things up. She could be as damaged as he is. Why? Remember when she got to the church and freaked? Maybe it has something to do with that. She never freaked before. Not even, when Brian tried to kill her.

Trinity has broken his family. That is sociopath behavior. Think Dex did something familiar too to Deb? But she never feared him. And Harry would have noticed THAT.

    I don't know. I don't know. I don't know.
I doubt that Dex would hurt Deb. But she does have some weird behavior. She is to close tied to Dex. Always was. But maybe it's because he was there for her, after her mother died and dad had no time for her.
    We'll see.

    ReplyDelete
  27. She saw. Best final scene since The Getaway.

    ReplyDelete
  28. But is Dex really there for her? I think that the point. Deb believes this until now to be true, but really when you think of what Dex's pursuits creates and how many times he puts her in danger, it's hard to understand her emotions towards him, as even she gets really upset with him. IMO it's really "Angel" that has been there for her, but yet she doesn't really realize that, she keeps forgiving and defending Dexter...But now that she knows she may remember other things that she had blocked out, but we'll see...

I think Harry is better than all of his other dark passengers but the fact he commits suicide and basically abandons his children being the one responsible for all of this, doesn't bode well for who is IMO.

If I would be right about this being a dream, then perhaps these 'missing' pieces won't be fully realized, because if this is about Dexter coming to terms with Harry being a killer by dreaming he is the killer instead and by extension fighting against multiple aspects of his father's persona through these other killers, then we see in both perceptions of reality that Deb is the outsider that Dexter has been protecting her from the truth about their father. So there may not be a real reason in the construct of this reality. It could also be then that they are blood related or Deb is the adopted one, and Dexter's dream gives them both the idea that there is no mother for either of them, in that sense you would be right because maybe in the actual reality he was actually there for her.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well, I agree that Dex sometimes let's her down. But mostly, cause he is busy with killing someone. Recently. What about, when they were kids? We don't know yet.

Of course she is defending him but is also mad at him. They're family. That is how families are.

Harry killed himself. He couldn't live with what Dexter became. When Dex was a kid (and teen) Harry was all about keeping him from killing, keeping him in control. He probably never believed, that Dex would actually kill, I think. But than he saw, what he has become and couldn't handle it. So, the question is: was is really unavoidable that Dex became a serial killer? Or is he a killer because Harry raised him like that? In S6 Dex was fighting with Harry over the question, if he has to be like that, if he is just killing cause Harry made him like that, and if he even had a chance to become something else than a killer.

What makes you think Deb is adopted? In S1 when Dex got news that his father died he took a sample an compared it to his. Turned out, that this guy WAS his father

    ReplyDelete
  30. No I am not saying that in terms of what we've seen, but what we haven't...

I am saying in a "real" reality some things may be opposite. My theory is that what we are seeing (s1-7+) is a dream Dexter is having (Darkly DREAMING Dexter) and everyone is a distorted and fractured piece of some truth we have yet to see. A truth where Harry is the serial Killer and Dexter is one that knows it, or has to/had to deal with it. (Dexter dreams of being in the role of Harry to understand and come to terms with him)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think it's suppose to imply, "Are you F'n Kidding me?" (Deb says this quite a lot) But like this line not being filled in by Deb's typical comments, was Deb also not acting like her typical self...very little fun swearing in sight...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Interesting. What makes you think, this could all be a dream/fantasy? Besides the title of the first book.

Don't get me wrong: I mean it. What makes you think that? I still hadn't the chance to read all the books, but I watched the entire show. And besides Dexter seeing Harry and Brian, what you could interpret as sides of his personality (or split personalities), I've noticed nothing to believe, that this is not real.

And as for Harry and Brian: I interpret Harry as Dexters conscience (a clear state of mind, to think things thou, to do the right think, not to hurt or kill) and Brian as his Passenger (his urge to kill, to do what he wants and not caring about anyone).

We all have both sides in ourselves. The desire to do some things no matter what, but we also have a conscience that tells us not to do thinks that are considered wrong by society. In Dexters case they just let them manifest so we could see and hear his inner struggle.

    ReplyDelete
  33. As I said all of the characters come of as "fragments" of each other...There are constant juxtapositions being re-conceptualized and reused.

I see who uses hammers, drives convertibles, plays records (as opposed to other music players) uses drugs, how many times names are used (like Joe), how families are paralleled, how riducous the way fate happens in Dexter's reality, what things in pop culture (Dirty Harry, Smokey and the Bandit, Star Wars, Miami Vice, Savage Innocents, Hannibal Lector, ect) are referenced, how women figures get written and paralleled to each other, the number of 3 (3 siblings: Deb, Dex, Brian/Sally, Jonah, Christine/Cody, Astor, Harrison/ 3 Prado bros..."Trinity Killer" - "3" Joes: Quinn, Drischoll, WALKER (<--sky walker - Deb to Dex: "Kill your father to be man") - Biblical "father of the prodical son") th word play on thing Born Free-Free the boy, Frebo (Fred Bowman) and Bret Fowler ect.

  34. It was simply mind blowing. It worked 100% both as an episode and as a premiere, which is not an easy thing to accomplish. I know it's early to say but we might in for the best season yet. The final scene was probably the best cliffhanger in Dexter's history, compared only with the final two episodes from season 4. It was mind blowing. And so many plots tickening aroud Dexter. Also, I have been saying this for 5 years but... can someone PLEASE give an emmy or a golden globe or anything to Jennifer Carpenter? She was amazing! (Michael C. Hall is always incredible, but that's a given)
