    Agreed, but then who is he? Is there any other story (and not just fairy tales, for obvious reasons) in which a tower guard actually plays an important role?

    As a general rule, these "casting snippet" posts are usually for people cast in very minor and insignificant roles. It is most likely that this person's character (who doesn't have a name, just a title) isn't important at all.
