Ugh, agreed. When she showed up with him my first thought was "PLEASE tell me the writers aren't trying to force a love triangle..." I'm ridiculously annoyed by it.
I'm sad he's playing a villain. I want to like hot guys, but have a hard time liking them when they're evil. Plus, their lives tend to be more in danger. Maybe he will not be too evil? *crosses fingers*
Since most of the evil characters have sympathetic back stories, and a chance for redemption, I suspect Captain Hook will also be layered. Besides, we only know the stories from Peter Pan's POV. Maybe Hook wasn't as bad as Peter thought.
True! In fact, I think that maybe, the guy we saw at the beginning of this episode is a grown-up Peter Pan!! Since they are bringing up Captain Hook, then why not Peter Pan too?
uhmmm.. so now we're gonna have like 2 different scenarios this season? -Storybrooke? -Pre-cursed farytale land? -and the farytale land where Emma and Snow were thrown at?
I took it as two angles this year (for now) with a potential return to pre-cursed later when I assume (haven't read spoilers this year) when I'm assuming they somehow get back to Storybrooke.
So no one else is bothered that 'Lancelot', Knight of Authurian Legend, has a ghetto accent? I know people were whining about not having enough ethnicity but seriously... I swear if he hooked up with Snow and Charming is Aurthur I am done with this show. To be clear, not because of the person playing him but because Lancelot had an affair with Guinevere. That is not true love. Anyways, my point is there are other ways to adapt more ethnic characters into the show. Giancarlo and Lana are great. Mulan, not so great, although Aurora is my least favourite. Not looking forward to Lancelot either. Even a slender darker guy with a good english accent would have worked. I have some indian friends from England. Love you core characters! So happy the show is back. I watched last season twice in the last three weeks. New guys so far... big disappointment!
I agree. Absolutely amazing. Phenomenal storytelling abilities by the writers of this show. I am so impressed and very excited to see what this season brings.
His alter ego in Storybrooke was a doctor. Their Storybrooke characters are generally not the same as, and in some cases, the exact opposite, of their FTL characters.
I hadn't thought of that. Great idea. Since Captain Hook is usually regarded as a bad guy, as Regina is as well, I think they'd be a great couple. Regina needs more chances to find love and get redemption for her character.
Maybe OUaT's Captain Hook will be more like an anti-hero than a villain? If he's written and portrayed as multifaceted and sympathetic as how Regina & Gold/Rumple have been, he'll be an interesting character to watch.
It surprised me that OUaT did a love triangle. Although I didn't mind that part of the episode (because it led to the reveal of FTL still existing in parts), I see your point. Love triangles usually annoy me too. It makes the characters less respectable to be in a love triangle. While Philip is certainly hot, if he loves both women, it just makes him a louse to me, and less likeable than Prince Charming for sure. If it's just Mulan who loves him, it can make her seem pathetic, because she doesn't have her own one true love, and is instead, mooning after somebody else's. Each character deserves their own 'one true love' imo. Hopefully, through the course of the season, Mulan's story will wrap up with her finding her own love story, apart of Sleeping Beauty's.
He's not?!? O.o Do you have any authority for that?? Because at 0:23 her clothes look very pirate-y to me. Also, I remember Lana mentioned somewhere that she'd want her character to hook up with Hook*. After seeing this promo I'm hoping she gets her wish and Pirate Queen becomes my new favourite ship*... ;) *All puns intended.
Tbh, I do get annoyed when people label someone as "evil" or "good" etc. As Oscar Wilde said, "It is absurd to divide people into good and bad. People are either charming or tedious." I'm not saying you should never call people good or bad, that's your right. I just think that it's human nature to classify people we simply do not like as "evil" and the ones we perceive as interesting, charming, or friendly, are "good".
So don't you count Katheryn/David/MM as a love triangle? Sure, it was mainly based on the memories created by the curse, but at some point (especially in 1x13) it was a classic love triangle. Over the course of a few episodes, he was torn between the two women. In addition, I think that Regina did develop feelings for David (which was plain to see in Lana's outstanding performance in "The Stranger", and in the deleted scene from "Stable Boy"). Not to mention Regina/Graham/Emma, although frankly Graham didn't really seem to love either of them, but both women had feelings for him. I don't know about Mulan, but not enough people are sympathetic of Regina's unrequited love. *my poor baby*
Well, who knows. Still, I wouldn't hold my breath... from what Lana said in interviews, this season is not really about Regina finding love, it's about Henry. But since I highly doubt all episodes have already been written, she could be partially wrong.
I thought about that, too... it could have been directed at either of them. I'm still more annoyed than interested in seeing where the writers could take it, though.
I can understand ... especially since they made Mulan into such a badass and then they go and make it all about love! I know, I know, this show is all about love, and true love and urgh .... it seems these days every where you look, everything on tv/movies is about love ... and honestly, maybe i'm just not a romantic or have a heart of glass, but enough with the love .... let a badass girl be badass because she likes being badass not because she wants to impress a guy!! :-/
By the way guys, correct me if I'm wrong, my school literature lessons are a little fuzzy! I do remember reading a poem involving a girl who was trapped in a castle (not Rapunzel) who could only look at the reflection of the outside world in her mirror and not directly out of the window .... and she sees this knight riding on his horse ... .and I think he was Sir Lancelot .... Then there is this thing with the Arthurian Lancelot .. .and I'm just so confused ... are they both the same! ?? :-/
I think you are thinking of Tennyson's Lady of Shalott. The Arthurian knights were included in lots of stories like the Faerie Queen and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. They are continuously used archetypes. So while they are the same character they are different stories of the character (like Batman movies, same character different interpretations).
Aww, that's too bad. :( Does this mean then that Captain Hook in Storybrooke will be older and won't be played by the same actor? Because if indeed Rumple met Hook before his wife left him, that means that Hook would have to be at least around 20-30 years older than Regina, and I'm guessing he doesn't have magic to make himself stay young.
I just need to know, how the hell, in one day time, Mulan and Philip camee to know about the history of them being froze, about the save haven (that must take quite some time to build, and got to Princess Aurora. Even if time is not the same in both worlds, I'm very much sure that the next episodes, with Snow and Emma on Fairyland side, that the time past will be the same.
I was just using evil cause it's fairytale stuff. I usually use bad as the term. I consider people bad if they find pleasure in killing people who don't deserve it or bring pain to others for a reason I consider not right - and don't regret it. When they regret it or change, they're headed for redemption.
Well love triangles seem to just go hand and hand with romance, which annoys me to no end as yeah, it makes me lose respect for the characters- the one stuck between two love interests. I really wish writers would find new ways of making conflict without the love triangle conflict in many shows/books/movies.
I'm not so sure. Perhaps he was attracted to her and liked the way she stood up to Regina and could relate to that. But he was unable to develop any feelings (being heart-less and all) up until the very end.
@google-47a6b31548d22cb6815876e6bb47ce1a:disqus Thank you for sharing your point of view. I was wondering if I was the only on who thought of love triangles in this way. Glad to know I am not alone in my thoughts. :)
Ralissa, thank you for sharing your thoughts. However, I don't agree with any part of your post here. None of your examples can be regarded as true love triangles, at least to me. Since it will take me too long to counter each of your examples individually, I'll just end my post with those thoughts. Peace. ;)
You may want to catch up with the story in song - check out Loreena McKennitt's beautiful rendering. I think it would go well with the melding of medieval and modern that we will be experiencing once again as Once is back again ;D !
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
This looks freaking awesome and I cannot wait for the rest of this season!
ReplyDeleteI loved the episode, but the Mulan/Aurora/Philip triangle was awful
ReplyDeleteWhoa, so Snow and Emma definitely meet Cora then. That will be interesting when they come back to Storybrooke.
ReplyDeleteUgh, agreed. When she showed up with him my first thought was "PLEASE tell me the writers aren't trying to force a love triangle..." I'm ridiculously annoyed by it.
ReplyDeleteLooks so awesome.
ReplyDeleteAh, anyone else think the actor playing Captain Hook is hot?
THE HOTTEST. So disappointed he's not going to be making out with Regina, tbh.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad he's playing a villain. I want to like hot guys, but have a hard time liking them when they're evil. Plus, their lives tend to be more in danger. Maybe he will not be too evil? *crosses fingers*
ReplyDeleteSince most of the evil characters have sympathetic back stories, and a chance for redemption, I suspect Captain Hook will also be layered. Besides, we only know the stories from Peter Pan's POV. Maybe Hook wasn't as bad as Peter thought.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly.
ReplyDeleteTrue! In fact, I think that maybe, the guy we saw at the beginning of this episode is a grown-up Peter Pan!! Since they are bringing up Captain Hook, then why not Peter Pan too?
ReplyDeleteDid they just spoil Dr Whale's identity? That's him carrying the phsyician's bag, right?
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I was wondering who the guy at the beginning was. You could be right.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope so. :)
ReplyDeleteuhmmm.. so now we're gonna have like 2 different scenarios this season?
ReplyDelete-Storybrooke?
-Pre-cursed farytale land?
-and the farytale land where Emma and Snow were thrown at?
AMAZING. absolutely can't wait for next sunday.
I took it as two angles this year (for now) with a potential return to pre-cursed later when I assume (haven't read spoilers this year) when I'm assuming they somehow get back to Storybrooke.
ReplyDeleteGreat point - with this show, you never know what the twist will be (including Peter not being quite as good as often perceived)
ReplyDeleteTwo Words: CAPTAIN HOOK.
ReplyDeleteOn this show I really only like villains.
ReplyDeleteagreed I was glad when that stopped.
ReplyDeleteSo no one else is bothered that 'Lancelot', Knight of Authurian Legend, has a ghetto accent? I know people were whining about not having enough ethnicity but seriously... I still have hope. I mean, he's too hot for her not to be tempted.
ReplyDeleteWow, just wow.
ReplyDeleteCaptain Hook is hot!
ReplyDeleteOgres?
ReplyDeleteRUUUUUUNNNNN
Oh the hilatiousness, I know that I am going to love this four girls in the woods so much!
They were casting for someone black with a British accent so I don't know why they didn't.
ReplyDeleteSoooo can't wait for the next episode! Captain Hook is HOT!!.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so good, I can't wait to see more
ReplyDeleteUnless it takes place entirely in the past like has been hinted.
ReplyDeleteCaptain Hook just made the girl in me squeal!! AWW MY GOD!!! *melts*
ReplyDeleteI love it when hot guys play twisted villains ... maybe there is something wrong with me! :-/
ReplyDeleteHahha!! But well... wasn't it intriguing when he turned back and said ''I Love You'' and hmmm.... I wonder to whom!
ReplyDeleteWill he be in the next episode ... i think his episode is the fifth one! This promo showed us scenes from this season!
ReplyDeleteI know! I can't believe I'm behaving like a 12 year old girl ever since I saw his clip!! aaaaahhhhh!
ReplyDeletevery LOSTy ... we have to figure out what we are watching! ;-) i like the mystery!
ReplyDeleteCaptain Hook is HOT! First time I've ever said that. ;) I'm really looking forward to the next episode! EEE!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy sister and I said the same thing when we saw this promo after watching live yesterday. I've never seen Captain Hook cast with such a hottie before.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Absolutely amazing. Phenomenal storytelling abilities by the writers of this show. I am so impressed and very excited to see what this season brings.

ReplyDelete@percysowner:disqus All this talk of Peter's POV vs. Hook's reminds me of the musical "Wicked". ;)
ReplyDeleteIt surprised me that OUaT did a love triangle. Although I didn't mind that part of the episode (because it led to the reveal of FTL still existing in parts), I see your point. ReplyDeleteYeah I think he is in the epi called The Crocodile? but saw him in the promo can't wait to see his episode!.

Lana says she hasn't filmed any scenes with him. And the synopsis for Hook's episode mentions pirates and Rumple's wife so set well in the past.
ReplyDeleteWell, who knows. Still, I wouldn't hold my breath... from what Lana said in interviews, this season is not really about Regina finding love, it's about Henry. But since I highly doubt all episodes have already been written, she could be partially wrong.

ReplyDeleteI hope they don't drop the ball on the Mary / Emma in FTL plot. That has a lot of great entertainment potential.
ReplyDeleteI hope to feel the same way. I'm crossing my fingers in the hopes that the writers take full advantage of this scenario.
ReplyDeleteAww, that's too bad.
ReplyDelete"Regina needs more chances to find love and get redemption for her character."
ReplyDeleteI just couldn't agree more! :)
Likely he's going to be with Emma and Snow.
ReplyDeleteIt's not. On the trailer, (00:17) you can see our dear Swan with a knife in Hooks neck. I think that she'll find new love in a new "bad guy"
ReplyDeleteI just need to know, how the hell, in one day time, Mulan and Philip camee to know about the history of them being froze, about the save haven (that must take quite some time to build, and got to Princess Aurora. ReplyDeleteAt least will be no space to love comflicts (theorically)
ReplyDeleteAlthough time was frozen, twenty-eight years still passed for Mulan and Phillip. That's a whole lot of time to find out stuff.
ReplyDeleteI was just using evil cause it's fairytale stuff. I usually use bad as the term. I consider people bad if they find pleasure in killing people who don't deserve it or bring pain to others for a reason I consider not right - and don't regret it. ReplyDeleteNever know, he's a pirate, maybe while traveling the seas he found the fountain of youth!
ReplyDeleteGraham had feelings for Emma. It was a little early to label it as love though, yeah.
ReplyDeleteWell love triangles seem to just go hand and hand with romance, which annoys me to no end as yeah, it makes me lose respect for the characters- the one stuck between two love interests. I really wish writers would find new ways of making conflict without the love triangle conflict in many shows/books/movies.
ReplyDeleteOMG! Lady of Shalott! Yes! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI really need to brush up with my Literature!! Its just been so long! :p
Thanks again @Isbloom
This looks so cool
ReplyDeleteNo problem. I'm happy to help. :) Lucky you hit on one I actually knew.
ReplyDeleteAt 0:24 you can see Regina kissing Daniel. He must come back then!
ReplyDeleteHaha, good point! With fantasy/sci-fi, you just never know... :D
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure. Perhaps he was attracted to her and liked the way she stood up to Regina and could relate to that. But he was unable to develop any feelings (being heart-less and all) up until the very end.
ReplyDeleteTransplanting Emma directly into a fairy-tale world was a BRILLIANT plot twist. Can't wait to see how it develops.
ReplyDelete@google-47a6b31548d22cb6815876e6bb47ce1a:disqus Thank you for sharing your point of view. I was wondering if I was the only on who thought of love triangles in this way. Glad to know I am not alone in my thoughts. :)

ReplyDeleteEmma tells August or Ogres?
ReplyDeleteTime was unfrozen when Emma decided to stay in Storybrooke, roughly a year ago. That when Mulan and Phillip had time to learn & do everything...
ReplyDeleteYou may want to catch up with the story in song - check out Loreena McKennitt's beautiful rendering. I think it would go well with the melding of medieval and modern that we will be experiencing once again as Once is back again ;D !
