Adam (Peter Krause) and Kristina (Monica Potter) struggle to balance the pressures of daily life combined with her ongoing treatment. Camille (Bonnie Bedelia) and Crosby (Dax Shepard) take on additional responsibility to alleviate the couple's burdens. Amber (Mae Whitman) and Ryan’s (Matt Lauria) relationship develops causing Sarah (Lauren Graham) and Zeek (Craig T. Nelson) to be concerned. Zeek knows too much about Ryan’s past and worries about his granddaughter. However, she is soon brought to tears when her mom leaves abruptly. Alex’s response to the situation makes things even more awkward. Meanwhile, Lily (Zoe Lister-Jones) and Roxanne (Rhea Seehorn) try to decide on an appropriate wedding gift for Whitney but cannot agree on the perfect present.

Lieutenant Casey (Jesse Spencer) finds his fuse shortening as Detective Voight (guest star Jason Beghe) stops at nothing to get him to retract his statement. However, when Casey lays his life on the line during an apartment fire, he may have unknowingly caught the break he was needing. Tracy (Morgan) and Jack (Baldwin) engage in a battle of wits after Tracy depicts Jack as a villain in his latest project. On Jack’s advice, Liz (Fey) puts her own needs ahead of those of "TGS."
