Whoa! Wait a sec! If, for example, Arrow got a 1.3 in the 18-49 demo(which count both men and womans in between the ages of 18 and 49), how come that it got a 1.3 in the 18-34 demo between womans? All the people with Nielsen boxes who watched the show were all woman with 18-34 years?
Arrow got 1.3 in the 18-49 demo. If I remember from TV by the Numbers they got 1.3 of 18-49 in women and 1.2 in 18-49 in men. So equal amounts of men and women ages 18-49 were watching the show. You don't add them together. I'm guessing the same approximate ratio held in 18-34 but since a long time ago the CW announced they are catering to the 18-34 women, they just announce those numbers. Frankly I think it is good that we have a balanced audience. Smallville used to do that when it started, I lost track of whether or not it continued to do so.
I expect Beauty and the Beast will fall and Arrow will rise. It's interesting that they chose the Green Arrow universe to use to make a new superhero show ... it has one of the most rounded set of characters, including two of the most compelling female superheros as regulars (Black Canary and Speedy) and a few others slated to make an appearance - such as Huntress.
I think Arrow has the potential to rake in the very large group of women as it will satisfy several of the primary motivations, traditional and otherwise, associated with female viewership without alienating any of the male viewers or the females who tend to be more attracted to "male type" shows. Lots of human drama, romance and human interaction and no shortage of action and mythology.
I was a fan of 90210 for the first 3 seasons, season 4 was absolutely dreadful and I thought I would check out a few episodes of season 5 to see if it would improve...that premiere was just a continuation of the crap fest that was last season and last night, I completely forgot it was on (in favor of a Castle marathon on DVD...I'm new to that show and I'm hooked) and I realized I didn't care at ALL about missing it. I really think it's time for the show to be over but with Gossip Girl ending, I think it will get at least one more season.
Just curious but are HOD and SPN's ratings for thier week 2 episodes or week 1? If these are from last week then they arent premier ratings for either show and I would imagine SPN would be down a little on this and HOD up a little?
Twilight can *not* be considered to be the impetus for TVD. In fact, Twilight is, hands down, the most derivative work I have ever reviewed. What was changed from the source was not changed for the better, in my opinion. To wit: sparkly vampires. I mean ... really?
That all said, there is no doubt that TVD cashes in on the wildly beating hearts of all the Bella Swann wannabes.
Oi, I just shivered when I wrote that. I think I would tie my daughter to a basement wall and beat her everyday if she had a secret wish to be Bella Swan. .
You're right about the books, but actually VD premiered about a year after the first movie, around the time the second one was coming out. And I think the comment was about how VD benefited from the Twilight frenzy, which,no matter what we think about Twilight,is completely true.Even the actors themselves have said repeatedly(during the first year) that they have Twilight to thank for the show's success. Personally,I think that VD owes Twilight for the original success.Later it proved its own worth.
exactly what I was saying it's the same thing. Seeing Twilight promo on tv or seeing the vampires promo on the CW, all I'm seeing is ''Come at us, look at the sexy vampires, how cute they are, look at the vampire love triangle how sexy it is''
I don,t get it how even the teen girls aren't tired of the ''sexy vampire'' thing yet.......it was old after one year and it keep on coming back
Arrow is kinda dissapointing in W18-34 for a premiere that kinds makes me worry the show wont have strong longivity i hope it doesnt pull another ringer/secret circle and have great premiere ratings but dangerous numbers by seasons end
TVD is not the same as twilight except for the fact that theres vampires and werewolves. Plus, TVD were based on books that came out before twilight books did
Well, you can actually see theres a complete difference between the vampires on this show. They actually burn instead of sparkle like fairies. The only similarity is the love triangle.
go read my other answers^^; I knew about the books, doesn't change anything, still listen by the same teens that have fantasy with vampires and want to watch a 'vampire love triangle and drool in front of tv. The show only exist and work cause of those girls. Not to mention it and it was always promoted the exact same way than they do for twilight
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Wow, 3 of the most geared to women 18-34 shows got the lowest rating, ironic.

ReplyDeleteI odn't get this... At all... :S
No, it means that 1.3 % of all women in the 18-34 group watched arrow.
ReplyDelete..1.5 the beauty crap...wooow..pure curiosity people watch that first episode..on arrow i expected may be more a 1.8 aprox
ReplyDeleteWow at beauty and the beast
ReplyDelete..ok..low percent means more people watch that show...?????? i am CONFUSE

We shall see, I guess.

ReplyDeleteBut the Twilight wannabe show got the higher too
ReplyDeletethey also had the lowest number of overall viewers, you have to have viewers of any kind before you can have ratings of any kind.
ReplyDeleteJust curious but are HOD and SPN's ratings for thier week 2 episodes or week 1? If these are from last week then they arent premier ratings for either show and I would imagine SPN would be down a little on this and HOD up a little?
ReplyDeleteif you're talking about TVD its been doing better than all CW shows in the womens demo for a few years now.
ReplyDeleteTwilight Wannabe? The Vampire Diaries novels came out before the twilight books. Also TVD premiered first
ReplyDeleteI know, but its still the same ''vampires are so sexy at high school'' with a love triangle at the enver and all for teen girls
ReplyDeleteTwilight can *not* be considered to be the impetus for TVD. In fact, Twilight is, hands down, the most derivative work I have ever reviewed. What was changed from the source was not changed for the better, in my opinion. To wit: sparkly vampires. I mean ... really?

Yeah.

Pretty much exactly what I expected to see when I decided to check this out.

yes this is last week and not for HOD or SN's premiere you are correct
ReplyDeleteArrow is kinda dissapointing in W18-34 for a premiere that kinds makes me worry the show wont have strong longivity i hope it doesnt pull another ringer/secret circle and have great premiere ratings but dangerous numbers by seasons end
ReplyDeletei think Mark Pedowitz said in the summer that the network cares about A18-34 so is it possible to get ratings in those demos for the CW?
ReplyDeleteAw! HoD *sad face*
ReplyDeleteFor the CW, that's a lot of women watching the Vampire Diaries. Good for them. It's nice to see any rating start with a 2 on the CW.
ReplyDeleteNo. You always want a higher percentage. This number is measuring a subset of the normal demo numbers.
ReplyDeleteI expect both to drop in the coming weeks but it would be nice if they both settled above a 1.0.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised that Beauty beat Arrow and very sad that SPN is in 4th place.
ReplyDeleteI hope so too.
ReplyDeleteno dixie :( but ratings were bad last year for the first half so ...
