True Blood - Season 6 will have only 10 Episodes

3 Sept 2012

Thanks to Nuno for the heads up that Season 6 of True Blood will have just 10 Episodes.

TV Guide Magazine: Will Anna be back full time right away after the birth of her twins in November?
Ball: She is. We're moving production to January to accommodate her. And there will only be 10 shows next season partly because of Anna and partly because of the economics

  1. Is ok good for her and the babies 10 dont worry will be the best over the top episode of the season by far

  2. I didn't now she had twins! congrats to the parents, and well 10 episodes are fine.

  3. Don't assume that at all, just because there is 10 episodes doesn't mean they will be over the top. People thought season 5 episodes were over the top and they weren't.

  4. She didn't have the twins yet, Anna is still pregnant

  5. Man, every episode next season should have at least an extra 5 minutes of content.

  6. Somehow i doubt it, knowing how much we were let down in Season 5

  7. Maybe it's better to have 10. Maybe it's easier to flesh out the stories?

  8. I don't know, it might be too overwhelming. Yet just hope the writers don't do what they did this season..

  9. I like my 12 episodes :(.

  10. Hopefully with 2 less episodes we'll get less filler crap like the season 5 storylines involving Terry, Arlene, Lafayette, and Smoke Monster.

  11. I actually think it could be better for the show if they use them wisely which erm being True Blood probably means they won't.

I forgot Anna was pregnant congratulations to her and Stephen

  12. Hopefully, with the smaller number of eps the new showrunner and the writers will tighten up the flow and keep the focus on the major players and the plots associated with them

  13. I think that's one of the signs the next season's gonna be the last. Just seems like the creators don't care anymore.

  14. Not always remember a lot of shows had less episodes during the writers strike. Just because next season of true blood will have two less episodes doesn't mean it will be it's last. . The creaters do care, it's the writers that are the ones who made season 5 go a bad route.

  15. 10 works just fine on Game of Thrones

  16. One could hope, Lafayette there was too little of his storyline last season. The writers need not to make the mistakes they made last season.

  17. Just because it works well for one show doesn't mean it will for True Blood. Two different shows, can't compare...

  18. I can't stand Alan Ball. He is such an egotist. To date the story lacked substance season 6. Couldn't have been slower or filled with less story development.....except, maybe if it had 2 less eps. If thos beloved show is not redeemed this coming season, I will never watch any future project of Mr. Alan Ball. He, of course, could care less. At this point, I'm certain that the True Blood books would have been a success as a TV show even if Ball wasn't involved. However, I do believe True Blood wouldn't have become sooooo boring without him. He really knows how to ruin something. He should stick to stealing other peoples talent.

  19. That is bad news for us, only 10 episodes...but good news for Anna and Stephen re the twins.

  20. These are two very different situations, we can't really compare the writers' strike with this decision.
Creators = Ball, producers, writers - they all made season 5 suck. Now, they're shortening the next one, which is a very clear sign to me that they're running out of ideas and they don't know what to fill even as little as 12 episodes with.

  21. That is certainly not true, the books and True Blood are two different stories. Understand that True blood is just a spin off, and what happens in the book won't happen in the storyline. Do not compare the book to the series, and second, it's the writers that made season five lousy, but the rest of the seasons were fine. You have to understand that, the writers are the people who write the episodes not Alan Ball.

  22. I don't think they are running out of ideas, just because there is a shortened season doesn't mean that at all. It could be that HBO only wanted a certain number of episodes. Plus think about Anna Paquin, maybe she wanted less episodes because of her twins.

  23. Absolutely, Anna's pregnancy is one of the reasons, but if they really had great storylines in mind for the next season, they could make it work with special arrangements made for Anna. The lack of creativity was already apparent in season 5.
And if HBO had wanted less episodes, that's a sure sign the show is in decline.

  24. Well, Alan Ball wrote 2 - 3 episodes per season, and the rest of the episodes were written under his creative direction.
I wouldn't say the show is a "spin-off" exactly, alternative reality more like. Some storylines have matched the books pretty faithfully. Any changes books vs. show don't have to be bad just because, Ball and co. have made some fantastic things with source material. However, what really shouldn't have happened is changing the essence of the main characters. Also, in season 5 they took a completely different direction plot-wise, and we know how it all turned out.

  25. Dont know how i feel about this. In a way, i dont like seasons to be so short but if this is what makes them kill all the pointless storylines then I am all for it!

  26. True Blood is still doing great for HBO ratings wise. The storytelling wasn't great this season, but I doubt they'd let TB go so easily. I'd say 1 or 2 more seasons after season 6.

  27. I disagree there wasn't a lack of creativiity in season 5. Just because there is a less of episodes does not mean that the show is in decline. The show can have good ratings but have fewer episodes. This also can be a contract thing, with all the actors on the show, perhaps they wanted less episodes. True Blood isn't in decline at all.

  28. They don't even follow the book, people need to stop comparing the book to the show. It doesn't even go that way.. It is a spinoff from the books, in the books it's from Sookie's point of view, in the series it's not from her point of view plus there are characters that are never mentioned in the book that are on the show..

  29. This, this and this.

  30. Must agree to disagree, as I think the creativity in season 5 was very stale. ;] Dragged out storylines, zero tension, out of character behaviour - not the show I fell in love with.

  31. Nothing wrong with comparing books and th show. TB is indeed based on SVM, it's not Ball's original creation. And yes, the show did follow the books in certain respects.
