There are only 8 episodes left and while I don't agree that all of them are the ultimate of Supernatural, I do agree they are pretty spectacular for the most part. Only 2 episodes don't make my top 25 list. As we enter round 5, I think this one will determine who wins the overall tournament but round 4 knocked 2 major contenders out for me so who knows. Speaking of round 5, A Very Supernatural Christmas, Lazarus Rising, The French Mistake, and In My Time of Dying join Bad Day at Black Rock, Swan Song, Changing Channels, and All Hell Breaks Loose 2. Saying goodbye are Lucifer Rising, What is and What Should Never Be, Meet the New Boss, and Point of No Return. Coincidentally today is the last hard choice for me too. No matter what wins or loses, I know which side of the bracket I am voting either way. Funny how some sections of the bracket were so much stronger than others.
Also up today are quotes for Free to be You and Me, the only episode where the brothers are separated for the entire episode and one of only two episodes where the brothers do not speak a single line of dialogue with each other. I will be getting a season 4 quotes form up soon. As for the rest of the quotes, we will continue nominations over winter hellatus and do the huge quotes contest next summer. So far we have thousands of entries so weeding things down is my big winter project. It's been fun seeing what people nominate and remembering the scenes the quotes come from. Only one hard poll for me today. The rest are very easy even though I think
ReplyDeletemost of these episodes are awesome. Bad
Day at Black Rock gets my vote because no matter how many times I watch it,
it's still a fun, well-scripted, well-plotted episode. Swan Song is boring through the middle and
loses a lot in the rewatch.
All Hell Breaks Loose 2 is my favorite finale and tied for
Kripke's best for me with Lazarus Rising.
I adore Changing Channels too, but AHBL2 took down YED and that puts it
over the top for me. However, both
episodes have a heavy drama component and a powerful twist. Both made leaps in the mytharc and both are
episodes I would vote over whichever episode wins the first poll.
The third poll is the last hard vote of the tournament for
me. If it were up to me to determine the
final 8 episodes, 4 of them would come from this section of the bracket and the
final 2 would also. An impossible
bracket, an impossible choice. This one
I'll determine after watching both again.
Choosing In My Time of Dying is as easy for me
as the first poll. While I appreciate
how hard it was to pull off The French Mistake, it doesn't hold a candle to
some of my favorite brother moments of all time during In My Time of Dying. IMToD also has quotes higher in rank for me
too which actually surprised me when I looked at them.

ReplyDeleteWe're mostly in agreement this time, I think. I think you're to credit with why I picked Christmas. I believe you were the person with the eloquent description of why you suggest that ep as an intro ep for people.
ReplyDeleteThe reason I started typing this was In My Time of Dying. There are a few eps that don't score very high for me. They're good decent episodes but something keeps me from being excited to re-watch them. IMToD is one of them. For some reason I was left cold by this ep. I can't complain about anything specific...it just didn't go where a lot of SPN eps go for me.
I do think A Very SPN Christmas is the best episode to show a newbie because it highlights everything Supernatural is about in one glorious 42 minutes. Many people who never thought they would like the show decided they could give it 1 hour and this episode hooked them because it shatters people's preconceived notions of what SPN is all about. The underlying core of two very different brothers with the same bedrock of family has a way of drawing people in even if they are not fans of horror or gore or quite frankly the CW.
ReplyDeleteI understand not being hooked by an episode everyone else seems to love. The Man Who Would be King, Point of No Return, The Benders, Yellow Fever, Dark Side of the Moon, After School Special, On the head of a Pin, When the Levee Breaks, The Born-Again Identity and Frontierland are such episodes for me. Swan Song too to an extent although I liked it a lot when I first saw it.

ReplyDeleteI went for a very supernatural Christmas. I get that Lazarus rising is a great episode but for some reason I can just never love it. I think for me it was tainted by the whole of season 4 which is easily my least favourite season. And I do love AVSC.
I also votes the French mistake. I really love in my time of dying but I love French mistake more. Except te last scene. But I tend to just skip it on every rewatch. And it's loosing right now.
As for the first two polls. I can't vote. After mystery spot those four episode are pretty much my top five or six favourite depending on how I'm feeling and I can't bring myself to vote against any. I don't care who wins but I hope none loose. I wish those four could make it to the next round over the second four

ReplyDeleteactually this was pretty easy for me. i picked all the ones that are winning...so clearly a lot of people are thinking alike. Swan Song, forsure, needs to win. Its just an ultimate episode. All Hell... is a classic and completion of an origional story for the brothers. Lazarus Rising because misha collins...nuf said. and in my time of dying because, though french mistake was a great episode, i think a more emotional and meaningful episode deserves to win overall.

Changing Channels is my fav comedy, but I love finales.
3. Lazarus Rising - Has got to make it through this round! Best premiere in my opinion.
I'll say it again, I like AVSC for the brother moments, but the MOTW was whatever. Besides the saved by the bell part when they were trying to pull Dean's tooth. XD
4. In My Time Of Dying - Another great premiere, and it's up against TFM.
Not a hard choice for me. (when I vote I really get on TFM's case, lol. I did find the episode funny, but could have gone without and just don't like that it's so meta- if it had been a show or movie of its own and not a SPN episode I'd have liked it a lot more).

ReplyDeleteIn My Time of Dying, as I said in yesterday's poll, is my favorite episode, so it will of course get my vote against anything else, ever. It's an amazingly powerful episode, and saw the death of John, which I never saw coming.
A struggled a bit with SPN Christmas versus Lazarus Rising as both are in my Top 5. Ugh! But...went with SPN Christmas in the end as there are a few aspects to Lazarus Rising that annoy me, while SPN Christmas has no flaws, IMO.

With the exception of Swan Song, I think all of the currently winning episodes are outstadning and I will be ok with any of them winning the whole thing. As long as it's not Swan Song.

I'm a bit torn between Lazarus Rising and AVSC.
I loved LR,, especially the hug, but AVSC has cute little Dean and Sam and the amulet moment, fun monsters and a pathetic Santa and his Santa World. It's chock full of goodies so it gets my vote.
In My Time Of Dying is also a great ep and deserves to win its bracket.

Lindsey is correct. Sam is very enigmatic, probably because we haven't really ever got to hear his innermost thoughts, and that still holds true today.
I liked her: she managed to give Sam some comfort when he really, really needed it., for between finding out about Lucifer and Dean's abandon he was very low on morale.
All in all it was a real stinker of an episode for poor Sam.
I spent the summer thinking we would see hell actually. I knew Dean would get out. I like both episodes a lot and will be happy for either of them. In fact, I hope the winner of this poll or AHBL2 wins the whole thing.

For me the awesome ones already out are most of all Mystery Spot, Jus in Bello and On the Head of a Pin. They are all in my top 10.
ReplyDeleteMystery Spot and Jus in Bello are two for me too. What Is and What Should Never Be, The End, Faith, and Devil's Trap also. Some of them fell because of the brackets. I hate when my top 10 go against each other early on.

It's been quite the turnaround. This morning the dramas were all winning, a couple comfortably. In the last couple of hours, the comedies have come on strong. All bets are off from here on out.

For the majority of the voting period, the dramas were all winning. In the final 4 hours, the voting turned around so the comedies won. We also had the largest turnout for this vote of them all so the results were not typical. Should be interesting to see how the final poll turns out now that we have an influx of new voters.
