Supernatural - Ultimate Episode Round 4A - Polls
20 Sept 2012
Polls SupernaturalOur vote to see when the contest ends once I added my vote, albeit late, tied between ending it the quickest and the latest. So as a compromise, we are going to do the first 4 polls today and the second four polls tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who has participated thus far. Our last polls of round 3 resulted with In My Time of Dying demolishing Hello, Cruel World and Point of No Return easily beating Born Under a Bad Sign. Should be quite the round tomorrow. Today will see some big hitters going down also. It's bound to happen when there are mostly big hitters left. I anticipate some groaning over these polls, including me. With the exception of two episodes, all of these are in my best of Supernatural list. Quote nominations for Sympathy for the Devil begin today too. Happy voting!

My votes - Bad Day at Black Rock, Mystery Spot, Changing Channels, and yikes I can't vote!
ReplyDeleteBad Day at Black Rock gets my vote because it is consistently funny and I love how both brothers get classic dialogue in it. The "I lost my show" scene is classic siblings and it makes me laugh every time. It may be my favorite Sam line of the whole series. Death's Door probably would have gotten my vote if they hadn't brought Bobby right back but when we get this far into the tournament something like that knocks it out for me. I still think the episode itself is one of the most powerful in SPN history though.
Swan Song is one of the few that are not on my Best of SPN list that remain in the contest. I loved it on the first watch but subsequently it has gotten a little boring with its non-action and I really hate the ending. It negates all the struggle the brothers had about the decision for Sam to jump into the pit for me. They were parting forever and then it ends up, oops maybe not. Sorry for all the angsty buildup. When compared to an episode like Mystery Spot which was excellent the entire way through, I just can't vote for Swan Song. Again I liked it but Mystery Spot is one of the best for me.
Of all the episodes left, The Monster at the End of This Book is the one I detest. Any other episode would get the vote from me. Good thing it's against Changing Channels, an episode I adored. I loved the Gabriel reveal and all the satire about competing TV shows. This is one of the best paced episodes and who can forget the herpes commercial. Changing Channels is all-around Supernatural gold.
I simply can't vote right now in this poll. All Hell Breaks Loose 2 and The End would get my votes over any of the other episodes and it's grumbling time now that they are against each other. In all honesty, I would love to have seen AHBL2, The End, A Very SPN Christmas, Lazarus Rising, WiaWSNB, Faith, Devil's Trap, and In My Time of Dying duke it out for the title. Since that can't happen, I'll have to think about these two episodes again before voting. Right now I am leaning towards AHBL2 because they killed YED in a well-paced thriller. And because I adore season 2. However, I keep wavering between the two.
Surprisingly not that hard for me.
ReplyDelete1. Death's Door
2. Mystery Spot (shocker I just voted with my gut there)
3. Changing Channels
4. The End - definitely!
"Three comedies, and a Drama."
ReplyDeleteBad Day at Black Rock, Mystery Spot, Changing Channels, and All Hell Breaks Loose, pt.2
I have no doubts about any of my votes. While I enjoy all the other episodes these four competed with, this was an easy decision. Also? If you have the Season 7 DVD/Blu-ray, you should listen to the Death's Door commentary with Jim Beaver and Steven Williams. It's great!
It wasn't very hard for me to choose surprisingly. I voted for Bad Day at Black Rock, Mystery Spot, Changing Channels, and All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2.
ReplyDeleteDeath's Door
ReplyDeleteSwan Song
Changing Channels
All Hell Breaks Loose, pt.2
Ditto.
ReplyDeleteI love that with *this* group fastest and slowest tied. LOL
ReplyDeleteDeath's Door - weird having two wildly different toned eps against
each other. But the quality of Death's Door wins out
TMATEOTB - Love both the eps. So, I decided to toss my vote
to the underdog.
All Hell Pt 2 - Shall always get my vote...until it goes up against
Death's Door.
Changing Channels - on a whim I decided to go with this one because
off all the awesome spoofs. But it was a near thing.
happy regardless of which wins.
I'm done for. From here on out I will likely love every episode.
ReplyDeleteI chose Death's Door over Bad Day at Black Rock because I really liked seeing more of Bobby, before he died.... We got alot out of his life, and I cried in the final scene(when the memory of Dean and Sam bickering fades away and the reaper asks Bobby a finale time, stay or go). I loved Bad Day at Black Rock, truely did... but comedy rarely competes with angst in my book.
I love Mystery Spot, Love it. It's always a joy to see the Trickster again, and (except for the first and last death) Dean's deaths were all very funny. Poor Sam was going nuts after every possible thing that could ice his brother happened. That episode went from regular, to sad, to funny, back to sad/serious. Sam got a loot at how his life would be without his brother (and it wasn't pretty) But, I'm going to have to go with Swan Song. I loved that episode, and thought it was brilliant. I loved the use of Chuck's narration, everyone giving up (except Dean) the scene where Lucifer beats up Dean and when Sam takes control again, Chuck disappearing (!) and Sam reppearing (!!) All in all, it is most likely my all time favorite season finale.
The third poll is a little harder. Both episode are comedies, and are equal in my book. For The Monster at the End of This Book there's: The introduction of Chuck, Dean and Sam reading from Chuck's current book, Castiel helping Dean. For Changing Channels theres: The Trickster, the fact that the Trickster is really Gabriel, all the funny shows Dean and Sam are in (I especially loved the sitcom!) and the scene with Dean, Sam, and Gabriel (in the holy fire). This one might have to be a coin flip... I'mma have to go with Changing Channels, it have slight leverage because of Gabriel.
And lastly, All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2 or The End. This is the easiest one, for me. The End. I loved the Sam/Lucifer and Dean scene, I liked Dean telling Castiel to never change, I liked Dean meeting Future Dean, his surprise when future Dean told him he hadn't spoken to Sam since Dean told him they had to stay apart. My vote goes to The End.
Bad Day At Black Rock, Swan Song, The Monster at the End of this Book, and The End all get my vote. So far there has not been an ep that will get me to vote against Swan Song.
ReplyDeleteI loved Death's Door, but mostly from watching Sam and Dean react to what was going on and the different way they did that, Dean not believing Bobby could die and Sam being realistic. Their emotions are what got me to crying.
The only part of Changing Channels I cared anything about was finding out who the Trickster really was, did not find most of it even remotely funny.
All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2 was very emotional, but for me does not compare with The End. I loved Hippie Cas, now Dean meeting Future Dean, but what sells it is Lucifer/Sam and now Dean. Jared was AWESOME.
Since I am a big fan of Chuck and the way this show makes fun of its self The Monster was a winner for me, Dean reading from the book while Sam does laundry was so funny.
I have watched Swan Song more than any other ep and I don't just cry in this one, but sob. The beating Dean takes from Lucifer/Sam all the while telling him I won't leave you, I am here, Baby doing her part with all the flashbacks going on in Sam's head, fantastic story telling.
Bad Day At Black Rock.----------hilarious
ReplyDeleteMystery Spot ---------------tragedy with a spoonful of comedy
Changing Channels --------------slapstick but with a punch at the end.
All Hell Breaks Loose P2 --------the perfect ending to a perfect season.

[Dean: "What if we win? I'm serious. I mean, screw the angels and the demons and their crap Apocalypse. They want to fight a war, they can find their own planet. This one's ours, and I say they get the hell off of it. We take 'em all on. We kill the Devil. Hell, we even kill Michael if we have to, but we do it our own damn selves."]

This is the Dean I know and love, and the current writers should have this quote in huge letters on their office wall, just to remind them of what Dean Winchester should be like!

[Dean: You just keep your distance, asshat.
Zachariah: You're upset.
Dean: Yeah, a little.]

You tell him, Dean! :)
Easy choices for me today. Even though I love all these episodes, only one poll made me groan to pick one over the other.
ReplyDeleteVoting bad day at black rock, mystery spot and changing channels were no brainers. Something about comedy but supernatural just does funny so well. And the comedies are always the episodes that stand out. I love each one of these, it does help that two of the three involve the trickster and of course mystery spot is my all time fave. Last poll was my only toughie with all hell breaks loose 2 and the end. Both are purely brilliant episodes but I ended up going with all hell breaks loose 2. They killed the yellow eyed demon!!! But I don't mind who wins out of the two
THIS.. POLLS.... DIFFICULT.. CHOICES..1)..BAD,.DAY...2)..AGREE WITH THE TIE...3).THE MONSTER...4)..ALL HELL
ReplyDeleteBad Day at Black Rock, Swan Song (although I love Mystery Spot too), Changing Channels, All Hell Breaks Loose 2
ReplyDeleteBad Day at Black Rock, Mystery Spot, Changing Channels, All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2.
ReplyDeleteQuotes:
Bobby: "Sam, I was awake. I know what I said back there. I just want
you to know that was the demon talking. I ain't cutting you out boy.
Not ever."
Dean: "I tried Sammy. I mean I really tried, but I just can't keep
pretending that everything's alright because it's not and it's never
going to be. You chose a demon over your own brother and look what
happened." Sam: "I would give anything, anything to take it all back."
Dean: "I know you would and I know how sorry you are. I do, but man
you were the one that I depended on the most and you let me down in ways
that I can't even…I'm just…I'm having a hard time forgiving and
forgetting here you know." Sam: "What can I do?" Dean: "Honestly,
nothing. I just don't…I don't think that we can ever be what we were
you know. I just don't think I can trust you."
Bad Day at Black Rock - no contest. Death's Door might be a pretty good episode, but it's going against a Supernatural classic. I love and laugh through BDaBR from beginning to end. The part: "I'm Batman" "Yeah, you're Batman" was my ringtone for a very long time and I intend to go back to it some day.
ReplyDeleteMystery Spot - again, no contest. Swan Song is one of my least favourite season finales, while Mystery Spot is an absolutely perfect episode. It manages to be funny and dark all at the same time, which is one of the things I love most about Supernatural. And it has some great brother moments too.
Changing Channels - just cause.
the last one was the toughest one.
All Hell Breaks Loose 2 - now I love The End, it's my favourite season 5 episode, but AHBL 2 is probably among my all time top 5. It's an essence of what the early Supernatural was all about - fighting demons, finding and killing Yellow Eyes, the Colt, Sam and Dean's relationship with John, Sam and Dean's relationship with Bobby and most of all Sam and Dean's relationship with each other. There is not a single thing I dislike about this episode. Pure perfection.
