Sep 7, 2012
Polls SupernaturalWooo hoooo!!!! We finally got a real promo for season 8 from the CW and it's one of the best yet. So excited for the premiere on Oct. 3. If you haven't had a chance to check out the new promo, here it is.
back to the contest - As expected Lazarus Rising took a big lead over In the Beginning in the last polls. The Appointment in Samarra vs Skin poll was closer but Appointment in Samarra got the victory. Today has some other fan favorites in the running as well. Personally, I like all the episodes and love 3 of the 4. So happy voting and don't forget to nominate your favorite quotes from Heaven and Hell.

SPN Asylum
SpoilerTV
I like all these episodes and love 3 of the 4 - yet today is still an easy vote for me. Asylum is my vote for the scariest episode of Supernatural. I love the atmosphere, PiP, one-liners, and intense brother confrontation. It is in my top SPN episodes list and there is not many episodes I would against it for. Unfortunately WiaWSNB is one of them. This episode is in a rarified class with other stellar TV gems lime The Becoming 2 in Buffy. This is not only the greatest episode of Supernatural in my opinion, but it is one of the greatest episodes of all TV. I adore when the brothers are happy and both brothers were actually joyful in this one. It might not have been the real world but it thrilled my cold dead heart even still. Perfection.
ReplyDeleteFor me, PPMM is the second best Dabb and Loflin creation after Weekend at Bobby's and it gets there on the strength of the ending scene. Watching the brothers laugh together over a glitter bomb and giant slinky was one of my favorite scenes of season 7. However one scene cannot get my vote when it's going against one of my top 10 episodes. Faith ties Devil's Trap for my favorite season 1 episode. It has everything - amazing brother moments, a take charge Sam, great action, great heart (pun unintended), and a level of rewatchability that is unmatched by most SPN. I rewatch a lot and Faith is one of my favorites even after 100+ times. It was a perfect episode to complete the awesome trifecta of Asylum - Scarecrow - Faith.
Faith and What is and should never Be.
ReplyDeletethe first poll very tricky
ReplyDeleteWhat is and What Should Never Be
ReplyDeletePlucky Pennywhistle's Magic Menagerie
What Is and What Should Never Be and Faith, I expect a real trouncing with both polls.
ReplyDelete1. WIAWNSB - Love this episode. So sad to see how it could have been-Sam and Jess together, etc. Dean at John's grave in the dream was one of the saddest scenes on the show. In my top 10 sad scenes.
ReplyDeleteAsylum was great, but couldn't beat it in my book.
2. Faith- Ah so much concern from Sam and hurt Dean and creepy reaper. Love it. Though the wife of the "healer" and Layla's mother annoyed me a bit.
PPMM was okay, funny, but not an episode I'd watch all the time. Love the glitter scene at the end though. Dean's reaction. XD
What is and what should never be. Wait, what, there's actually an episode competeing with it?!
ReplyDeleteI love What is and what should never be, it is one of my all time favorite Supernatural episodes. My vote goes to it, no doubt, no second thought about it.
While I did like Plucky Pennywhistle's Magic Menagerie there is no way I would vote for it over Faith.
I liked more than a few season 6-7 episodes, but there are few which I would vote over a season1-5 episode.
Easy peasy, man. What Is and What Should Never Be, and Faith. Both are in my Top 5 episodes of all time. What'll be harder is when I have to choose between them...
ReplyDeletePlucky's isn't even in the same realm of episode awesomeness compared to Faith. And I liked Plucky's well enough. But Faith...man. I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep watching the show until I saw Faith. I was enjoying it, and thought it was fun, but it hadn't touched me emotionally, yet. And then Faith happened, and that was when the last, little bit of me was completely hooked in. And I can tell you exactly what it was...Sam visiting Dean in the hospital, and their exchange. Seeing the little bro in the role reversal did me in. I was gone, in love with the show completely and utterly at that point. I really, really, really love Faith.
What Is and What Should Never Be is heart-wrenching and amazing and I love everything about it, too. Jensen plays Dean as vulnerable as I've ever seen, and I adored seeing Mary! I love Sam Smith. Asylum, while good, again cannot compete AT ALL with What Is.
Faith is my fav season 1 episode. And I totally agree about the trifecta of season 1 eps you mentioned. I said in my comment below that it was Faith that hooked me in, but now that I think about it, I think it was the 1-2-3 punch of Asylum, Scarecrow and Faith that did it. One of the best runs of SPN episodes in a row was those three.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your assessment of seasons 6-7 episodes! There are a precious few that would get a vote over a season 1-5 ep from me, either.
ReplyDeleteWhat is and What Should Never Be and faith...although i've gotta say that i loved asylum and Plucky Pennywhistle's Magic Menagerie too.....specially asylum...it was a creepy and a well written episode but wiawsnb is one of my top 15 episodes:)
ReplyDeleteSame here!
ReplyDeleteDahne irrelevant question, but what is your favourite season of supernatural?
ReplyDeleteDahne, is your goal to see how frequently I have to use the coin flipping website to make my choices?
ReplyDeleteFine, I'm just going to be different and pick Asylum over What Is And Should Never Be. Both great episodes but I'm going to go with Asylum because it is one of the very very few episodes that I thought were effective as scary stories. Asylum was definitely one of the best ghost stories in the series. I found it really effective.
Faith - really easy pick for me.
so... Asylum and Faith
love all of todays episodes so that doesn't make anything any easier.
ReplyDeletefirst poll, asylum is a brilliant episode that is one of the awesome, really dark scary ones but i just adore what is and what should never be. i think it is one of the best of the series and just get's better on every rewatch..
next one. another hard choice because they are both great. i think actual episode-wise faith is a better episode but i just love PPMM. it was the first episode in a long time that just really made me laugh and it felt good to get back to the brothers being brothers, working a case together and joking around. i was also really sick when it came out and it really cheered me up so i will always love this episode which is why it got my vote over faith.
What Is and What Should Never Be and Faith. No contest.
ReplyDeleteAsylum is a strong episode, but nowhere near WIaWSNB, which is among Supernatural's best ever. And I didn't really like PPMM, it was actually pretty forgettable for me, while Faith is just one of those special episodes that melt and break my heart all at the same time. Plus I just love vulnerable Dean.
15. Anna: "Ruby's right. Heaven wants me dead." Ruby: "And hell just wants her. A flesh and blood angel that you can question, torture - that bleeds. Sister, you're the Stanley Cup. And sooner or later, heaven or hell, they're going to find you."
ReplyDelete14. Cas: "You know who we are and what we will do. I won't say it again. Leave now or be laid to waste." Alastair: "I think I'll take my chances."
13. Uriel: "It means she's worse than this abomination you've been screwing. Now give us the girl." Dean: "Sorry. Get yourself another one. Try J-Date."
12. Sam: "Alastair?" Ruby: "You met him in the church. Practically the Grand Inquisitor downstairs. Picasso with a razor."
11. Ruby: "Sorry I'm late with the demon delivery. I was only being tortured." Dean: "Well I've got to hand it to you Sammy. Bringing them all together, all at once - angels and demons. It's a damn good plan." Sam: "Yeah well, when you've got Godzilla and Mothra on your a** best to get out of the way and let them fight." Dean: "Yeah now you're just bragging."
10. Anna: "Don't be afraid. I'm not like the others." Ruby: "I don't find that very reassuring." Pamela: "Neither do I."
9. Dean: "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Okay I know she's wiretapping your angel chats or whatever but that's no reason to gank her." Uriel: "Don't worry. I'll kill her gentle."
8. Alastair: "About what. About how a demon is protecting an angel. We really must revoke your membership." Ruby: "Look I know I'm not employee of the month but this. I never wanted to get in the middle of this."
7. Ruby: "Pretty buff for a nerd."
6. Pamela: "Ohh, you know how I can tell? That perky little a** of yours. You could bounce a nickel off that thing. Of course I know it's you Grumpy. Same way I know that's a demon and then that poor girl's Anna. And that you've been eyeing my rack."
5. Dean: "How I feel…inside me…I wish I couldn't feel anything Sammy. I wish I couldn't feel a damn thing."
4. Dean: "Iron walls drenched in salt. Demons can't even touch the joint." Ruby: "Which I find racist by the way." Dean: "Write your Congressman."
3. Dean: "So you just forgot that you were God's little Power Ranger?"
2. Dean: "Let's can the thanks for trying speech, you know. Participation trophies suck a**."
1. Dean: "Nothing. It's just an angel and a demon riding in the back seat. It's like the set up to a bad joke or a Penthouse forum letter." Sam" Dude, reality. Porn." Dean: "You call this reality."
this time i go with the old classics from s1 - Asylum and Faith.
ReplyDeleteThis is the hardest one for me, I loved Asylum, the scariest ep on SPN for me, even with all 7 seasons to pick from, but have to go with What is and What Should Never Be. This ep broke my heart.
ReplyDeleteGoing with Faith, loved the brother moments, PPMM just was an OK ep, but did like the laughs at the end.
Plucky's for me on the 2nd poll, no question!
ReplyDeleteFinaly i can vote using my computer (because i was tired do that on my mobile) and can nominate quotes (i hate typing long text with my smart phone).
ReplyDeleteIn polls voted Asylum (i love both episodes, but Asylum is losing) and Faith (like PPMM but Faith one my favorite episodes).
Quotes:
Dean: "How I feel…inside me… I wish I couldn't feel anything Sammy. I wish I couldn't feel a damn thing."
Dean: "Nothing. It's just an angel and a demon riding in the back
seat. It's like the set up to a bad joke or a Penthouse forum letter."
Sam: " Dude, reality. Porn." Dean: "You call this reality."
Today was a no brainer for me. I absolutely love What Is And What Should Never Be and Faith! ♥
ReplyDeleteWhen I originally watched Supernatural, I was feeling a little let down when Hook Man - Bugs - Home aired. I still loved it but my patience was being tried. Then they hit us with Asylum- Scarecrow - Faith and my opinion skyrocketed. It was just what I needed to get a little oomph in mid season 1 and they remain some of my favorite episodes to this day.
ReplyDeleteIf we are talking seasons as a whole it is season 2. However I believe season 3 right up until the writers' strike killed all its momentum was the best Supernatural has ever been. There was one phenomenal episode after another in that season. What's yours?
ReplyDeleteJust noticed this was supposed to be the Round 2L poll. You were really excited last night too Dahne? ;)
ReplyDeleteAgreed. It would have been the shocker of the tournament if either of these episodes had lost. Still it will be interesting to see what happens when they go up against each other in the next round. I think my prediction will be right but it will depend on who shows up for the vote.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I feel that WiaWSNB is Raelle Tucker's gift to me. I so needed a brothers happy moment and then this episode aired. Dean taking joy at mowing the lawn and eating a sandwich combined with Sam's full face smile at being engaged filled the joy quotient that is sadly lacking in this show sometimes. It's my go-to episode when I need a pick me up and the episode I have watched by far more times than any other. Glad to see other people love it as well.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love Asylum, I agree with your reaction to WiaWSNB but I would say that I tend to vote seasons 1-3 more than seasons 6-7. However there are a lot of seasons 6-7 episodes I would vote for over seasons 4-5. It's more of an episode match up for me but seasons 4-5 are extremely depressing and filled with brother anger.
ReplyDeleteWhile I will have no problem choosing what to vote for in the WiaWSNB vs Faith poll, I will be saddened to vote against one. These two are also in my top 5 episodes and it's a real shame that they won't both make it to the final four.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad to see Asylum go because it was a stellar episode and the scariest in my opinion. I really wish this part of the bracket was mixed up because we are losing excellent episodes far too early on this side while less than stellar episodes will go pretty far just because they have easier competition.
ReplyDeleteHa! Why yes, that is my goal. I am secretly receiving kickbacks from the site so keep clicking away. :-P
ReplyDeleteThe scene at the end of PPMM was the best thing Dabb and Loflin have ever written. I don't give them credit for much but I do give them credit for that. It was much needed and much appreciated. Here's hoping we get a lighter atmosphere in season 8 where brother joking and laughing aren't mere dreams.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of the role reversal in Faith and the solid brother story line is what puts it in my top 5. Plus it gave us the classic scene to Don't Fear the Reaper, one of my favorite song-to-scene moments.
ReplyDeleteFixed. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYah, to me seasons 1-3 are like 'The Original Supernatural' but I also like seasons
ReplyDelete4-5 Because of the saddness, and emotion, I liked seeing the how the brothers reacted when pushed to a breaking point by the angels. I'm glad they moved on from the pure depressing stuff, but I am also glad it was put out there at one time. If that makes sense.
So glad you can comment again. These are two of my favorite quotes too.
ReplyDeleteI felt the same way. It's nice to have those occasional polls where you don't have to agonize over the choices. I have a feeling it's going to get that way for me in round 3.
ReplyDeleteI would have preferred to skip the whole demon blood addiction plot but I am in the minority of Supernatural fans because I prefer action FAR MORE than angst. In fact I am okay if we cut back on ending every episode with an Impala chat in order to get a couple more fight scenes in.
ReplyDeleteI prefer angst, anyday, and I love the Impala chat scenes. I don't let my mom get off the couch until the screen goes to black, though she always insists the episode is over.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying I want every episode to be emotional, one or both brothers crying. I don't even want a full episode of nothing but emotion. But I do love angst, specially on Supernatural, between by three favorite characters.
SPN has the best fight scenes around, they are the most realistic looking and I like when they get hit, they bleed. I hate fights that look bloody, but no busted lips, just so lame. lol
ReplyDeleteI do like the Baby chats and the angst, enjoy a good cry or sob fest and have missed them recently.
I would have to add Home to my "trifecta" and make it a...1-2-3-4 punch. :) Cause I loved Home. But yeah, Hookman and Bugs were very underwhelming my first time through (and still), and I just wasn't "getting" the show yet. And as you said, those next three eps (four for me lol) elevated things to a whole new plane and then there was no looking back. In fact, it was right after Faith that I stopped getting the discs from Netflix, and went to Best Buy and bought all the seasons available at the time (1-5, yes, I'm a late-comer). I knew I would be in it for the long-haul!
ReplyDeleteVoted for WIAWSNB and Faith.
ReplyDeleteTwo beautiful and moving episodes and it was sweet to see Sam being Dean's protector for once in Faith.
It was a role that he hadn't been used to while growing up but which he pulled off perfectly, even to getting Layla and Dean together at the end in order to soothe his big brother's gulty feelings. Great stuff.
Sam: She was convinced that he wasn't her real daddy.
ReplyDeleteDean: Who was? The plumber, hmmm? A little snaking the pipes?
Sam: Dude, you're confusing reality with porn again.
X
Pamela: Sam, is that you?
Sam: I'm right here.
Pamela: Oh. Know how I can tell? That perky little ass of yours. You could bounce a nickel off that thing.
X
I'm going with some light-hearted, irreverent quotes this time. :)
I've got to say that mine is 4 i really think that Supernatural went epic in this season.A close second is probably 2 even though i think that season 3 is the most fun season of supernatural.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love and have watched seasons 1-3 so many times, s4 is my most watched season. I loved the Demon/Angel arc.
ReplyDeleteyeah i agree....asylum is one of my favorites episodes of season 1 along with skin, scarecrow and bloody mary!overall i think season one was kind of a scary season!i bet from now on voting is going to get even harder!
ReplyDeleteI think you are more in line with most fans than I am. Season 4 is my least favorite of all. I hated the brother chasm and everything about the demon blood addiction, and ended up thinking bringing angels on the show was a big mistake because they are too powerful. I am really looking forward to this season though and I may end up having a new favorite by season's end. It will be hard to cap season 2 though in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteYeah me too!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to this season too i have a lot of faith on Jeremy Carver and i hope that this season is going to be better than seasons 6&7 because they have been rather disappointing in my opinion.
ReplyDelete
