Supernatural - Ultimate Episode Round 2K - Polls

Sep 6, 2012

Yesterday Lucifer Rising made short work of Crossroad Blues but not by as much as some other episodes this round. Should be interesting to see if it can go the distance to the Elite 8. My guess is no but stranger things have happened. Weekend at Bobby's edged out 2 Minutes to Midnight but not by much. This one may have a tough time getting to round 4.

Today we have 4 episodes I really like including a major power hitter. In fact, with the exception of Lucifer Rising, there isn't an episode I dislike left in this bracket. It's all win in this section for me, except for maybe having to vote against episodes I love. In other news, we're collecting favorite quotes from I Know What You Did Last Summer today. For me, this episode was the beginning of the end of season 4's enjoyment. Good thing it has some great quotes. Happy voting!

  1. I like both episodes but I have no doubts in voting today. Lazarus Rising is one of Supernatural's best. Perfectly paced, intriguing, and a very cool twist. Plus we get one of the best brother hugs of all time and Sam returning the amulet to Dean. In the Beginning was fun, but I'm still not sure I like retconning Mary and it introduced us to Grandpa Creepy.

I know a lot of people were not overly thrilled with Appointment in Samarra or season 6 as a whole. I thought both were good and hey, Sam got re-souled in this one after an awesome stint of Dean and Tessa as co-reapers and RoboSam trying to take out Bobby. Still Skin holds a special place in my heart. It was one of my favorite episodes from season 1 and it takes place in my city. I love the brother insight and thought Jensen did a great job playing the shifter. I adore the glimpse we get of Sam's time at Stanford. Although this episode does gross me out, so many things are in its favor - including the music and one-liners.

  2. Lazarus Rising. Top ten easily.

Appointment in Samarra was a good episode but I'm going with Skin. One of the best earlier episodes.

  3. Lazarus Rising is in my top 10 too. Actually it's in my top 5.

  4. 1. Lazarus Rising - I can't name a single thing that bothered me about this episode. Absolutely loved it. Dean coming back, him hugging Bobby, Bobby throwing holy water in his face lol, him hugging Sam, Pamela, and Castiel's awesome badass entrance...love it all.

In The Beginning was another great episode that started the time travel stuff [yay - hey, I watched Charmed and time travel brings good things ;) ]. I loved Dean meeting young Mary and John, but it doesn't beat LR.

    2. Appointment in Samarra. Loved Dean playing Death for a day, and Death is always great to see on the show. He's the only character that still makes Dean nervous like he does. XD And Death also gave Sam back his soul.

Skin was a great stand-alone episode, loved the music, and that, but the shapeshifter shedding skin always freaks and grosses me out. I skip that scene on re-watches.

  5. Lazarus Rising
    Appointment in Samarra

  6. Lazarus Rising is my #2 favorite episode of all time. I LOVE IT SO IT GETS ALL MY ONE VOTES! The first 10-12 minutes are just awesome. I was glued to my television and on the edge of my seat nearly the entire time. Ugh. Near perfect episode.

& There had better be an epic Winchester brother hug in ep1 of s8 to rival the one here...that's all I'm sayin'.
Skin for the second poll. It's a genuinely disturbing episode and even though the actress who played Sam's (much, much older) friend was incredibly annoying, the whole episode was pretty friggin' awesome. I loved a lot of the season 1 angst, it wasn't so heavy as to break your heart...yet.
The only part of Appointment in Samarra that I enjoyed (aside from Sam's "resouling") was Dean's "death" (Robert Englund! Doctor Robert! epic Beatles reference), and meeting with Death. Hated Sam going after Bobby, and as much as I loved Tessa in "In My Time of Dying", she got on my last nerve in this episode. anyway. SKIN!!!

  7. Lazarus Rising is just almost perfect and one of my top eps and is my pick. In The Beginnings is another one I love, the actors that played John and Mary were so good and it was interesting seeing Dean meet his dad and point him to the Impala. Dean finding out mom was a hunter and meeting his creepy grandpa.

Appointment in Samarra had Death, that is enough for me to vote for it.

  8. Lazarus Rising, of course. I loved it, and laughed when both Bobby and Sam attacked him. A creature strong enough to shatter glass? I couldn't wait! Then seeing the nerdy angel walk in, I was intrigued, from there I hoped I'd get to see more of him. I loved Dean and Castiel's convsersation, everything, Castiel wondering why Dean didn't think he deserved to be saved, telling him they had work for him, and Dean stabbing him to no effect!
The second poll is closer.... ahh! I love both... but Skin has always been a favorite of mine...

  9. the first poll very tricky one

  10. Lazarus Rising. Best season opener. Freaking epic.
And Skin, as it's THE episode that really got me hooked to the show.

  11. I know What You Did Last Summer Quotes:

    12. Sam: "You've got something to say, say it." Dean: "Oh I'm saying it. This sucks." Sam: "You're not p** we're going after the girl. You're p** Ruby threw us the tip." Dean: "Right because as far as you're concerned the hell b** is practically family. Oh boy something major must have happened while I was downstairs cause I come back and you're BFF with a demon." Sam: "I told you Dean. She helped me go after Lilith." Dean: "Well thanks for the thumbnail. Real vivid. You want to throw in a little detail." Sam: "Sure Dean, let's trade stories. You first. How was hell? Don't spare the details."11. Ruby: "No it's the truth because if you kill her and you survive this, then you have to go on without your brother. This isn't what Dean would have wanted. This isn't what he died for." Sam: "Get out of my way." Ruby: "No Sam. This is suicide."10. Ruby: "Okay yes, so I'm possessing this maid for a hot minute. Sue me."9. Anna: "First words I heard. Clear as a bell. Dean Winchester is saved." Dean: "What do you think?" Sam: "It's above my pay grade man." Dean: "Well at least now we know why the demons want you so bad. If they get a hold of you, they can hear everything the other side's cooking. You're 1-900-ANGEL."8. Dean: "So they lock you up with a case of the crazies when really you were just tuning into angel radio."7. Crossroads Demon (CD): "I was wondering whether to come or not. I mean you shot one of my co-workers."6. Dean: "Yeah, they want her and they're not screwing around. Alright so, I'm Girl, Interrupted and I know the score of the Apocalypse. Just busted out of the nut box, possibly using super powers by the way. Where do I go?"5. Doctor: "Since when does the book of Revelations have jack-o'-lanterns?" Dean: "It's a, uh, little known translation."4. Alastair: "Don't you recognize me. Oh I forgot. I'm wearing a pediatrician. But we were so close…in hell." Dean: "Alastair."3. Anna: "Sam? Not Sam Winchester?" Sam: "Uh yeah." Anna: "Then you're Dean. THE Dean."2. Ruby: "Proof. This body is 100% socially conscious. I recycled. Al Gore would be proud."1. Dean: "Sam." Sam: "Yeah." Dean: "Too much information." Sam: "Hey I told you I was coming clean." Dean: "Yeah but now I feel dirty. Okay, well uh…brain-stabbing imagery aside so far all you've told me about is a manipulative b** who uh screwed you, played mind games with you, and did everything in the book to get you to go bad." Sam: "Yeah well there's more to the story." Dean: "Just…skip the nudity please."

  12. Lazarus Rising is such a wonderful episode, keeping you glued to the screen from the first to the last moment.

Everything about it was perfect, from Dean's emergence from the tomb, to
the most wonderful and emotion-filled hug on tevevision.

Dean's expression when he sets eyes on his brother is so full of
happiness, and when Sam realises it's really Dean, it is returned in
    kind.

I 'm going to hold on tight to that hug as I am sadly unhopeful of getting such another like it again.

Writers , please prove me wrong in season eight!!

I liked ITB a lot too for it's back story and time travel, but it can't beat LR for me.

    X

I know that Skin is a big favourite but somehow it doesn't quite draw me
in as other episodes do, although it's full of good moments, so I'm
    going for AAS.

I was moved by the lengths that Dean would go in order to help Sam,
even to letting himself be killed in order to speak to Death himself,
the one being that Dean is a little bit afraid of too!

It was an interesting look at the after-life; the only cliched bit being
Dean's refusal to kill the little girl, for his loving heart just
wouldn't let him, but he eventually learned the lesson that Death had
been trying to teach him about not interfering in the natural order of
    things.

Sam's soullessness came to a high point when he tried to kill Bobby,
even although there was a certain logic behind his reasoning.

He was afraid to get his soul back, and in a way you couldn't really
blame him for not wanting to take on the burden of Sammy's emotional
    background and memories.

However it all worked out okay and we got to see Sammy's shining white soul put back into place by Death himself. :)

  13. Quotes:-
Sam (to the Crossroads Demon): I don't want 10 years. I don't want one year. I don't want candy! I want to trade places with Dean.
    X
Crossroad Demon (to Sam): Dean’s in Hell, right where we want him. We’ve got everything exactly the way we want it.
    X
These two quotes sort of sum up the story. Sam goes completely downhill without Dean, wanting nothing more than to save his brother from Hell, and so becomes nicely ripe for Ruby's "motherly" comforts.
    X
Then the Crossroads Demon let's us know that this is exactly how things had to pan out.
Dean is exactly where they want him, ready to break the first seal and start the Apocalypse.

  14. Lazarus Rising - no contest here; Appointment in Samarra - i thought that it will be the one that is losing on this poll, because i like both episodes, so this time my "voting for the loosing episode" radar went off :)

  15. Lazarus rising and appointment in samara. Skin is a fantastic episode but appointment in samara is just way higher in levels of awesomeness. Loved every minute of it and any episode with death in it gets a very high rating in my book, he is one of my favourite non Winchester characters after the trickster and Crowley. Maybe ties with Crowley.

  16. I just watched Heaven and Hell..again and got to thinking, just how many sex scenes have there been? I can only think of 5, 3 for Dean and 2 for Sam. That might be a good poll, although it will be very short, what is your favorite one. Mine is Anna and Dean in the Impala, sweet, sexy and hot with great song.

    ReplyDelete
  17. lazarus rising obviously!the second one is a tough poll though!i loved skin cause we were introduced to shapeshifters and the whole shapeshifter shedding dean's skin was awesome!but my vote goes to Appointment in Samarra!cause we got to see death and tessa again and i loved the whole idea of dean being death for a day!and sam got his soul back:)

  18. I have a question for the Supernatural fans. I am not sure this is the right place to post it but I will try anyway. I have decided to give Supernatural a try. Even though in theory it always sounded like my type of show, when i learned about it it had more than 5 years so I did not feel like watching such a big show and other shows were always there so I kept putting it off until now. The incredible online support the show has made me decide to try it even after so many seasons. So far, I have seen the first 5 episodes. I loved the pilot, and I can see why people like the series. The relationship between the brothers, as well as their personalities, have been the highlight so far. However, even if the MOTW storylines have been pretty cool, I must say I am not sure I want to see 8 seasons of episodes like this. So my question is... does it get more serialized or not? I think I will keep on watching anyway, but I just want to know this :P Please be kid enough to avoid spoilers when answering me, I dont want to know the content of future episodes, just whether or not they will become more serlaized or keep with the same procedural format of 1x02, 1x03, 1x04 and 1x05. Thanks a lot!

  19. Hi! Welcome to the Supernatural family. I'm so glad you are giving it a shot. The show is largely monster of the week in season 1 although there is a mytharc component that begins in episode 9 and comes more into play in episode 14. By the end of season 1 you get the gist of the mytharc but it is really season 2 that becomes serialized and it stays a mixture of serialized and standalone from that point on with seasons 3-5 being the heaviest on serialization. Hope this helps and please keep us updated on how your viewing is going. Season 1 is a bit uneven but the Winchesters are worth continuing and there's always an awesome episode right around the corner.

  20. Welcome to my favorite show, the Winchesters are family to me and have cried and laughed with them, so keep tissues handy. I fell in love with this show with the pilot ep and that has only happened 2 other times, Veronica Mars and Roswell. So enjoy and hope to hear from you, this is a great web site.

  21. Thanks for your ansers! @Dahne1:disqus, that is exactly the king of information i was looking for! I will keep on enjoying the season 1 style of motw episodes and I will be looking forward to the more serialized season 2. The brothers are really captivating so I think by then I will actually not care so much if the episodes are more standalones or not. Besides, so far, even the standalones, have been pretty cool, I like the tone of the show very much! Thanks guys, and yeah, I will keep you posted!

  22. Question - are you by any chance watching through Netflix or iTunes?

    ReplyDelete
  23. No, I have borrowed the first 3 seasons DVDs from a friend of mine. Why?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Great! They changed the music for season 1 on Netflix and iTunes and it's just terrible. I wouldn't want you to miss out of the full effect of season 1 of which the music is an important part.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh thanks for letting me know, that's a very cool insight! Why would they do that btw? Seems weird. BTW, I will watch 1x09 later on today, the one you told me starts hitting on the bigger mythological arc. I have been having a lot of fun with the standalones though, I have just watched 1x08, Bugs, and I really enjoyed how they dwelled into Sam's relationship with his dad. The best part is still the relationship and banter between the brothers though, Dean cracks me up :P

    ReplyDelete
  26. Warner Brothers bought the music rights for DVD but they didn't buy them for online distribution I guess. I think it ended up biting them because starting with season 2 we were back to the original music on both.

If you liked Bugs, you are in for a treat the rest of the episodes. Traditionally Bugs is the most hated episode in the fandom. It's hard to get past InstaDawn. I agree that the brother relationship is the soul of Supernatural and therefore the best part. Dean snark is just the icing on top. We are nominating our favorite quotes right now for a huge quotes contest later this season. Feel free to nominate your favorites. The link for season 1 is at the top of this page.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks for the explanation! Wow, I had no idea Bugs was that hated. Why is that? I had no problems with the episode at all! I have already watched Home though, and it was vastly superior, a very good episode, one of my favorites so far, although my favorite up until now is still the pilot! Will watch 1x10 tonight ;)

    ReplyDelete
  28. You are not alone, I liked Bugs also. Not one of my favorites, but way above last. ;)
