Supernatural - Ultimate Episode Round 2J - Polls
5 Sept 2012
Polls SupernaturalWow! Another poll decided by one vote. Now I doubly regret that I didn't get back in enough time to vote in that one. Would have been interesting if it had been a tie. Just in case that does happen in the future, my inclination is to let both episodes on to the next round and let their fate be decided there. Anyone object? Leave your thoughts in the comments section.
Yesterday's results - A Very Supernatural Christmas move into the next round easily. It's one of my prediction picks for the final 4 and is a power hitter in this competition. Squeaking in by one vote is Time After Time so the 40's will live on for at least one more round. Unfortunately this means we say goodbye to The Usual Suspects and Something Wicked, both great episodes. Today we have a good mix of episodes but races that are harder to call. If I'm going to predict wrong in this bracket, it will be today. So spread the word for your favorites and happy voting! Don't forget to nominate quotes for Wishful Thinking while you're at it.

This is actually easier for me today than it probably will be for a lot of people. Crossroad Blues gets my vote - no question, no hesitation. The only thing I really liked about Lucifer Rising was they finally ganked Ruby. For the majority of the time this episode was, to quote Lilith, "a hot mess." It's probably my least favorite finales and the point at which the brother relationship was at its absolute lowest. While I have voted for this episode based on Ruby's death alone, it doesn't cut it against such a powerful mytharc episode as Crossroad Blues. I thought it was great as a standalone but then as the years progressed it came to mean so much more.
ReplyDeleteWeekend at Bobby's gets my other vote for one reason - Pesitlence. If Pestilence had his own episode and Death had this episode it would be a much harder choice. As it is, I love one half of 2 Minutes to Midnight and hated the other. Weekend at Bobby's however was a rock solid episode that offered a lot of insight, gave us Rufus time, and had me rolling with laughter in some places. The directing was pretty awesome too.
Crossroad Blues was great. Huge for the show's mythology, and lots of Dean angst.
ReplyDeleteLucifer Rising is my least favorite finale with TMWKTM.
And WAB, because it's a brillant Bobby episode.
This is hard. I'm not voting. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI liked Crossroad Blues, I really did, but I'm going to have to go with Lucifer Rising. The things Sam was willing to do/did, how the angels twisted Dean's message, all the Dean and Cas moments, how Castiel finally full on rebelled for Dean(I love Castiel's finale line "I'll hold them off! I'll hold them all off!" I wasn't surprised when we later learned that the Archangel exploded Castiel) I loved how Sam's eyes turned black, that Ruby was finally killed, and I loved the last line "Dean, he's coming" I really liked that episode, not my favorite finale, but good enough.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, the second poll gives me a tougher choice. I cried when I watched Weekend at Bobby's, I really did. I loved taking a stroll in Bobby's mind, and I loved the finale scene, with Bobby sitting down for a last beer with the guys, them fading away, the reaper coming back, the screen fading to black, and the clock ceasing to tick. I am, however, going to have to go with 2 Minutes to Midnight. Crowely is always a joy to see and I loved Death and Death's introduction, the song was perfect, and the guy brushing against Death then falling down, well... dead, was perfect. I liked when we learn Castiel is practically human(just like in 2014)
Hmmmmm...none of these episodes are stand-outs, IMO.
ReplyDeleteWent with Crossroad Blues because of the importance the information in that episode plays later on. Like Croatoan, it sets us up for the big event at the end of season 2. I like Lucifer Rising okay, if only for the fact that we finally learn the angel's real plan. But I hate the state of Sam and Dean's relationship so...can't vote for it.
Weekend at Bobby's for the second ep because it was fun to get a glimpse into Bobby's day-to-day! Plus, RUFUS!!! And Sheriff Mills!!! Good stuff. Also, very little Soulless Sam, so it's an early season 6 ep that doesn't make me hate life.
I'm struggling to recall what 2 Minutes to Midnight even was about...it was the penultimate episode of season 5, right? Meh. If I remember correctly...actually. I don't remember. So - another reason to go with Weekend at Bobby's.
ah...Pestilence! And Death! You know, I could not for the life of me remember what 2 Minutes was about. Now it's coming back, and you're right. Pestilence and Death should have each had their own "mission" episode. Oh well. You know, if the part of Pestilence hadn't been played by Matt Frewer (He's so awesome) that ep would be even worse than it is. Love me the Trashcan Man!
ReplyDelete1. Lucifer Rising. Loved Crossroads Blues but it can't face up to a finale. :I
ReplyDelete2. 2 Minutes To Midnight- Another big favorite of mine. Lots of action, the Horseman Death, Human Cas, Crowley, funny moments at Bobby's...XD An episode Team Free Will is working together.
Weekend At Bobby's - I love this episode as well with the "balls" montage, the lights devil's trap, Rufus, and Jody, but not a lot of Sam and Dean, and they complained, mostly Dean, too much to Bobby. Also, not as action packed.
Pestilence kinda had a full episode, the episode before 2 Minutes to Midnight was all about finding Pestilence, then the mission stretched out to actually meeting him in 2 Minutes to Midnight.
ReplyDeleteIt was Death who had a much smaller part, I loved his scenes so much, how ever small they were. I think alot of time went into getting him just right, and having him come across as 'just right' in the short time he's on screen.
I think everyone would have been better served if they had dropped the ridiculous Brady retcon and ended Pestilence in the first episode. Then giving Death the whole penultimate episode. Death was by far the best horseman and he got shafted. Making Brady kill Jessica instead of YED actually hurt the original story line without adding anything into the season 5 story so they could have dropped that and toasted Pestilence instead. Of course I would have missed some golden Crowley scenes, but they could have put Crowley in earlier in season 5 anyway.
ReplyDeleteThe horsemen were too easy to dispatch with as a whole and then to cram in the wonderful Julian Ritchings in the leftover Pestilence time was a crime to the viewers. Death was the biggest horsemen and he deserved better.
ReplyDeleteHa! Been there, done that, and it ended with a 1 vote difference in the last poll.
ReplyDeleteWeekend at Bobby's, just a solid directing job by Jensen, loved Bobby trying to eat his cobbler. Crowley is never a bad thing in an ep and he was very good in this one.
ReplyDeleteLucifer Rising had Ruby's death finally, Sam ganking Lilith and completing his mission in life, even though it sucked. lol Cas picking a side and going for Dean. Not my favorite finale, but still a winner for me.
I am surprised that Lucifer Rising is winning by so much to be honest. Crossroad Blues was such a big mytharc episode and such a great standalone story too. I wish it were getting more love.
ReplyDeleteI do agree on that, Death is, by far, my favorite horseman, and I did not like that Brady was the one who killed Jessica, it should have remained the YED.
ReplyDeleteWeekend at Bobby's isn't the episode where he dies. That's Death's Door. Weekend at Bobby's is the Jensen-directed season 6 episode where we see a day in the life of Bobby. In it he's trying to get Crowley to release him from the soul deal he made in season 5. He gets Rufus to steal the ring to contact Crowley's son, Dean and Sam go to Scotland to find Crowley's bones, Bobby answers phones/researches but never gets to eat the peach cobbler, and there's the infamous wood chipper scene at Marcy's.
ReplyDeleteHa! Not remembering an episode is definitely grounds for not voting for it. Rufus and Sheriff Mills and not getting any cobbler helped make the Weekend at Bobby's episode for me. It had a lot of minutia we never got to see and that helped make the hunting life richer to me. Plus I loved Bobby.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree.
ReplyDeleteBobby is the best. I am still in big-time denial that we may not see him again. ever. :( (and ironically, though this site is spoilertv, I don't follow spoilers. ha!)
ReplyDeleteVery few episodes can I not recognize from the title, but that one...the only scenes I remember with any clarity (now that your comment reminded me!) are Pestilence dying and Dean having Chicago-style pizza with Death. Definitely not enough to warrant voting for it over Weekend at Bobby's!
I adore Wishful Thinking. I can count on one hand the number of season 4 episodes I willingly watch over and over again. This is one of them. There's a ton a great quotes, but in all honesty it's all about the giant suicidal teddy bear.
ReplyDeleteWishful Thinking Quotes:
15. Dean: "I won't lie anymore but I'm not going to talk about it." Sam: "Dean look, you can't just shoulder this thing alone. You've got to let me help." Dean: "How? Do you really think that a little heart-to-heart, some sharing and caring is going to change anything? Huh? That'll somehow heal me. I'm not talking about a bad day here." Sam: "I know that." Dean: "The things that I saw…there aren't words. There is no forgetting. There's no making it better because it is right here forever. You wouldn't understand and I can never make you understand. So I am sorry."14. Dean: "The wishes turn bad Sam. The wishes turn very bad." 13. Dean: "No come on. If you could wish yourself back..you know before it all started, think about it. You'd be some big, yuppy lawyer with a nice car, white picket fence." Sam: "Not what I'd wish for." Dean: "Seriously?" Sam: "It's too late to back to old lives Dean. I mean I'm not that guy anymore." Dean: "Alright, well what then. What would Sammy wish for?" Sam: "Lilith's head on a plate…bloody." 12. Sam: "Believe us, we do not have it easy." Dean: "We are miserable. We never get what we want. In fact, we have to fight tooth and nail just to keep whatever it is we've got." 11. Dean: "Come on, could we stow the couple's therapy huh? We're on a job. I want to work. What do you got? Please." 10. Teddy: "Why!!!!!!!"9. Audrey: "All I ever wanted was a teddy which was big, real, and talked, but now he's sad all the time - not ouch sad but ouch in the head sad, says weird stuff, and smells like the bus." 8. Dean: "I got to tell you I'm pretty disappointed." Sam: "You wanted to save naked women." Dean: "Damn right I wanted to save some naked women."7. Todd: "Kneel before Todd. Kneel before Todd."6. Sam: "Okay well uh I'm really sorry to have to break this to you, but your bear is sick. Yeah, he's uh…he's got…" Dean: "Lollipop Disease." Sam: "Lollipop Disease." Dean: "It's not uncommon for a bear his size, but see it's…it's really contagious."5. Sam: "Are we…should we, uh. Are we going to kill this teddy bear?" Dean: "How huh? We shoot it? Burn it?" Sam: "I don't know. Both?" Dean: "How do we even know that's going to work? I mean I…I don't want some giant flaming, p** off teddy on our hands." 4. Teddy: "Look at this. Can you believe this cr**?" Dean: "Not really." Teddy: "It is a terrible world. Why am I here?" Audrey: "For tea parties." Teddy: "Tea parties. Is that all there is?" 3. Dean: "Okay….So what? Bigfoot beaks into a liquor store jonesing for some hootch? Amaretto and Irish Crème. He's a girl drink drunk."2. Wes: "It's Wes. Aren't you the guys from the health department?" Sam: "Yeah and florists on the side." Dean: "Plus FBI and on Thursdays we're teddy bear doctors." 1. Dean: "I got nothing." Sam: "It's got to be a joke right? Some big a** mother in a gorilla suit." Dean: "Or it's a Bigfoot. You know and he's some kind of an alcoholo porno addict. Kind of like a deep woods Duchovony."
Pizza with Death was the best part of 2 Minutes to Midnight. The rest was largely forgettable although there were parts of the Sam and Bobby stopping the Croatoan virus from being shipped out that made my action-leaning heart pulse.
ReplyDeleteah! lol, another series of scenes from the ep you reminded me of. Totally forgot about the Croatoan-virus/warehouse scene. That was decent action, for sure.
ReplyDeleteYep, realized that kinda late...
ReplyDeleteOh, I remember that episode. I really liked it!
My vote goes to Crossroad Blues. I thought it was a great episode from the initial scene with the guitarist and the bluesy music, to the story of the people who sold their souls, to Dean's encounter with the crossroads demon. Everything was an anticipation of what was to come for Dean.
ReplyDeleteLucifer rising was painful all the way for me, from the aftermath of Sam's fight with Dean, to his drinking of the nurse's blood, to the altered message from Dean which saddened him so completely and encouraged him to keep on with what he was doing.
I hated the hold Ruby had over him.
The only redeeming feature was the killing of Ruby and the brothers holding on to each other as Lucifer rose.

I'll go for Week-end at Bobby's although it annoys me a little that he got out of his deal so easily while Dean had been dragged to hell, but in any case it was an interesting episode, whereas 2 Minutes to Midnight was the anticipation of Swan Song and of everyone being quite happy for Sam to be the sacrificial lamb and spend some "quality time" in the Cage with Lucifer, when really everybody had had a hand in starting the Apocalypse.

Wesley: Aren't you the guys from the Health Department?
Sam: Yeah. And florists on the side.
Dean: Plus FBI. And on Thursdays, we're teddy bear doctors. :)

Dean: The things that I saw. There aren't words. There is no
forgetting. There's no making it better. Because it is right here…
forever. You wouldn't understand. And I could never make you understand.
So I am sorry.

I went for a happy quote and a tragic one.
As in nearly all the episodes of the Winchester Saga, the happy episodes are often defined by their sad moments and even amongst giant teddy bears and the ilk, we get to see Dean's atrocious Hell-pain, a pain which eventually Sam would also come to know.
I would have liked for them to share more profoundly some of their thoughts with each other on their different experiences in Hell in later seasons. It would have been interesting.
Lucifer Rising
ReplyDeleteWeekend at Bobby's
Crossroad Blues - i liked this as a monster of the week episode, and once they expanded its significance in the whole plot of later episodes just put this episode even higher in my ranks.
ReplyDelete2 Minutes to Midnight - this is heartbreaking poll for me, because i really love both episodes, and really enjoy the Pestilence (one of the few i guess:). And of course you cannot cheat (or vote against) Death, so i chose not to piss him off as well :)
the second poll...AWWWW..TOUGH ONE
ReplyDeleteJulian Richings as Death and Christopher Heyerdahl as Alastair were by far my favorite short time guest stars. They made those characters come to life and I have hope we will see Death again and the way characters on SPN keep popping back up after death maybe Alastair. But please only if Chris is playing the part.
ReplyDeleteLucifer Rising was an easy choice for the first one. It was a great finale, and while Crossroad Blues was good, it's hard to measure up.
ReplyDeleteWeekend at Bobby's was my choice in the 2nd poll. I love that episode, as much as I love Bobby. I never liked their father, and as far as I'm concerned, Bobby was a better father to them.
I love 2 minutes to midnight as well, but my heart lies with this episode.
Lucifer Rising and Two Minutes to Midnight for me today although a like, not LOVE all these episodes.
ReplyDeletelucifer rising is a great episode and my favorite finale, I'm not surprised at all.
ReplyDeleteMuch easier for me. Crossroad Blues - There was a lot I liked about this ep over Lucifer Rising. Not the least of which was the boys learning something knew from an unexpected source.
ReplyDeleteWeekend at Bobby's. Easiest choice of the day for me.
I am surprised because it traditionally does not do well here in comparison to other season finales. I predicted it to win but I thought it would be more by 55% of the vote.
ReplyDeleteHa! I'm fresh out of pickle chips so I'm not eager to tick off Death either. I had the same reaction to Crossroad Blues. It was one of my favorite standalone episodes of season 2 but then when it came to have more meaning later on, it became an epic episode for me.
ReplyDeleteNever thought about them learning new hoodoo as it pertains to this episode. Thanks. There's another reason to like it.
