Supernatural - Ultimate Episode Round 2I - Polls
Sep 4, 2012
Polls SupernaturalSorry this one is coming out a little late today guys but it should be an interesting one. I'm fairly confident in one poll but have no idea how the other will go. Yesterday saw both The End and The Pilot advancing to round 3 while we say goodbye to Folsom Prison Blues and My Bloody Valentine. It was also the official halfway point to round 2. Thanks to everyone who has been voting and commenting. Only 48 episodes remain out of 149. Don't forget to nominate your favorite quotes from It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester and happy voting!

A Very Supernatural Christmas and Time After Time.
ReplyDeleteA Very Supernatural Christmas is an easy pick for me. I liked The Usual Suspects but with the exception of the brothers knowing each other so well and the interrogation of Dean, it was nothing outstanding. A Very Supernatural Christmas however is the episode I suggest for people who are not sure if they will like the show. It is a perfect microcosm of what the show is all about and fits the something for everyone attitude of the show which I adore.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what I'm voting for this one. Something Wicked has Michael, on of my absolute favorite PiPs. I'm still hoping he will show up as a junior hunter one season. Time After Time has great brother balance and the 40's which is one of my favorite time periods. Will have to think about this one some more.
A Very SPN Christmas and Something Wicked.
ReplyDeleteEven though SW is more Dean-centric (one of the best of the entire series in that way), both episodes featured flashbacks and showed us how much the boys care about each other. And when this kind of episode is well executed, there's not much that can top that.
A Very Supernatural Christmas and Time After Time (mainly because Sam gets something to actually do during a time travel episode, LOL!), surprised to be voting for a season 7 episode
ReplyDeleteIt's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester Quotes:
ReplyDelete12. Dean: "Okay great. Well now that you're here why don't you tell
us where the witch is, we'll gank her, and everybody goes home."
11. Sam: "That's because he likes company. Once he's raised, Samhain can do some raising
of his own." Dean: "Raising what exactly?" Sam:
"Dark, evil cr**. And lots
of it. I mean they follow him around like
the freaking Piper." Dean: "So we're talking ghosts." Sam:
"Yeah." Dean: "Zombies." Sam:
"Uh huh." Dean: "Leprechauns?" Sam:
"Dean." Dean: "Those little dudes are scary. Small hands."
10. Dean: "Look man, I know you're into the whole
God thing. Jesus on a tortilla and stuff
like that. Just because there is a
couple of bad apples doesn't mean the whole barrel is rotten. I mean for all we know God hates these
jerks. Don't give up on this stuff is
all I'm saying. Babe Ruth was a d** but
baseball's still a beautiful game."
9. Dean: "Okay who are you and why should I
care?"
8. Dean: "Yeah well, if you were a 600 year old
hag and you could pick any costume to come back in, wouldn't you go for a hot
cheerleader? I would."
7. Sam: "Really, after that guy choked down all
those razor blades." Dean: "It's Halloween man." Sam:
"Yeah, for us every day is Halloween."
6. Dean: "This Luke Wallace, he was so vanilla
that he made vanilla seem spicy."
5. Dean: "Astronaut!"
4. Dean: "It was a witch, not the Tet Offensive."
3. Sam: "Relax man, it's like at least 100 years
old." Dean: "Oh right, like that makes it better. Witches man, they're so freaking
skeevy."
2. Dean: "Okay, so some witch wants to raise
Samhain and take back the night?"
1.
Dean: "Zombie-ghost orgy
huh. Well that's it. I'm torching everybody."
1. Going with the underdog- The Usual Suspects. I love AVSC, and but mostly because of the flashbacks. So I decided to not play favorite for just a few scenes I liked today, and overall I liked more scenes in TUS.
ReplyDelete2. Time After Time- Something Wicked has a lot of brother meaning, so I can see why it's popular, but I love TAT's action and guest stars and the rock, paper, scissors moment. Also, Sam and Jody scenes, and Sam finding the note from Dean.
There's nothing more to comment on AVSC. It's just a stellar episode.
ReplyDeleteApart from the story itself, the brothers come over just so natural and laid back in it that you forget for a moment that it's a tv show and that all the brotherly love is only the so convincing recitation of two great actors.
Kudos to the J's and kudos to the two young actors who recitated just as well as their adult counterparts.
I'm a sucker for young Sam and Dean and any episodes that give us a glimpse into their childhood days and to the events that made the brohers into the complicated adults they now are, so Something Wicked gets my vote.
Quotes:-
ReplyDeletex
Sam: You can't do this. You're angels. You're supposed to show mercy.
Uriel: Says who?
x
Dean: (to Uriel) I mean, come on, you're gonna wipe out a whole town for one little witch. Sounds to me like you're compensating for something.
X

These two quotes sort of sum up the angels, at least how they are portrayed on the show, really no better than the demons only with an annoyingly superior, righteous, holier than thou attitude.
So I'm with Sam and his disappointment all the way in the first quote and with Dean in the second.
In retrospect I wish they had stayed in heaven doing whatever it is that angels do there and left the Winchesters alone!
Love all of the choices today but my votes went to something wicked and a very supernatural Christmas. Two absolutely brilliant episodes
ReplyDeleteI can't any episodes more than the ones that has childhood flashbacks in them - exceptions are After School Special and Girl Next Door.
ReplyDeletethe second poll ..VERY HARD CHOICE...
ReplyDeleteA Very Supernatural Christmas - this one is in my top episodes list; and Time After Time - basically a coinflip, will be interesting to see which one will win - i will be happy either way.
ReplyDeleteA Very SPN Christmas, loved the flash backs..and Ridge Canipe,my favorite young Dean and Colin Ford IS Sam. It was on TBS just the other day.
ReplyDeleteTime After Time, Dean in the 40's, Ness, Jason Dohring, Sam & Jodie working together, it had every thing for me. Liked Something Wicked and the flashbacks, the old lady in the hospital "sleeping with my peepers open", but not my pick here.
On the first poll, I think both were great episodes, but I went with AVSC. That one may be my favorite SPN episode of the series. Love both the present storyline and the flashbacks.
ReplyDeleteOn the second one, I voted for Something Wicked. It's not a favorite of mine, but it was a season 1 episode that filled in more of the gaps of Sam and Dean's childhood. I wasn't crazy about the John assassination in it, but John's tough. He can take it. The biggest problem with Time After Time was its timing. If such a Dean heavy episode had been sandwiched in between some Sam heavy episodes (the way WIAWSNB was), I probably would have loved it. But it came at a time when the 15-episode Dean emo arc was starting to wear really thin, so I was indifferent to it at best.
SW is Dean centric but back then a brother centric episode always had the other brother in abundance, always gave them something to do, gave them lines, importance, reactions. Now days when an episode is Dean centric Sam is rarely present, important or reactive. Now days Sam centric episodes are rare, told from Dean's POV or shared with guest stars.
ReplyDeleteEasy AVSC and SW. AVSC is in my top 5 best episodes ever and SW gets a regular re-watch. The MOTW story blends well with the brothers story, the brothers are both important and their reactions and feelings both important.
ReplyDeleteTUS isn't particularly memorable for me. TAT is a bit over hyped imo, its a competent episode, filler really and by this point of the season I'd already lost interest.
For It's the Great Pumpkin, these are my favorite quotes:
ReplyDeleteSAM: I just…I mean, I thought they’d be righteous.DEAN: Well, they are righteous, I mean, that’s kinda the problem.
DEAN: What the hell was that?SAM: Halloween lore, people used to wear masks to hide from him, so I gave it a shot.DEAN: You gave it a shot?!
CASTIEL: I’m not a…hammer as you say, I have questions, I have doubts. I don’t know what is right and what is wrong anymore, whether you passed or failed here.
You're killing me here! A Very Supernatural Christmas vs The Usual Suspects....!?!?!?! I actually really liked the MOW in both eps. Both were some of the more successful in the show's history. Lot's of great Dean snark...and him having watched enough TV and being smart enough to refuse to get out of that van. And Linda Blair (only problem...she and co-star had ZERO romanitc chemistry)
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I went to random.org an flipped a coin.
The Usual Suspects
Egads...I may have to flip a coin again. Love Something Wicked. The glimpse of the brothers when they were young and at such a defining moment for Dean was fabulous. By the same token I had so much fun with Time After Time. Argh! Alrighty....flipped again. This time Something Wicked wins!
So, the Usual Suspects and Something Wicked.
These were easy choices for me today. I voted for A Very Supernatural Christmas and Something Wicked.
ReplyDeleteI chose the usual suspects for the first, because I am not a fan of the Christmas episode. I dont know why, but its one of those ones i rarely ever watch.
ReplyDeleteThe second one was more difficult, since something wicked isnt one of my favorites either, but thats what i chose. I did however enjoy the brotherly antics in the episode.
Oh my gosh, I can't believe Something Wicked lost!!! I love Time After Time, but Something Wicked is our first real look at Dean and his responsibilities (as he see's them) to take care of Sam.
ReplyDeleteUgh. So disappointed.
I voted earlier but couldn't say why. Doesn't really matter at this point, but SPN Christmas is in my Top 5 SPN episodes. And well, I validated my Something Wicked vote above.
The gave it a shot quote is one of my favorites too. It reminds me of the Route 666 line.
ReplyDeleteHa! I think you're the only one I've heard so far to go to a website to decide. Love it! I use that site when determining who wins prizes when I do contests.
ReplyDeleteIf I had been home in time to vote, I would have tied the two episodes up. I just took too long to make up my mind. On the plus side though, I don't see either of these two knocking out A Very SPN Christmas and that's who Time After Time faces next round.
ReplyDeletegood point. I feel a bit better :D
ReplyDeleteI share your disappointment as Something Wicked was a really sweet episode and it would have been nice for it to win over a more recent and well-loved episode like TAT.
ReplyDeleteHowever as Dahne added below, it comes up against AVSC which should win; maybe! :)
I agree with every word you said, as it's so true.
ReplyDeleteEven when one brother was the focus of the episode, the other was always by his side supporting him, as in "Simon Said" for Sam and "Faith" for Dean.
In fact those types of episodes are those which stand out and for me are the best loved, because having the brothers together is better than having them apart.
man, if AVSC loses to TAT??? I may give up on fandom entirely, lol.
ReplyDeleteTAT is a fun episode and one of the better ones from s7, but it's purely stand alone, and does nothing to further any character growth (though maybe that's why people like it?).
I feel like on every level AVSC is better! lol, it better win!!
Right! With you all the way there! :)
