Most of you already know all this.
The thrilling and terrifying journey of the Winchester Brothers continues with the eighth season of “Supernatural” on The CW.
Twenty-seven years ago, Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) lost their mother to a mysterious and demonic supernatural force. Subsequently, their father John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, “Watchmen”) raised them to be soldiers. He taught them about the paranormal evil that lives in the dark corners and on the back roads of America…and he taught them how to kill it.
Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) have spent the last seven years battling the things that go bump in the night. Over the years, with the help of both fallen-angel, Castiel (Misha Collins, “24”), and the King of Hell, Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard), the Winchesters have straddled the line between good and evil. Last season, the boys encountered their worst enemy yet, Leviathan, a highly adaptable, seemingly unkillable foe that takes the form of billionaire Dick Roman. Roman’s plan is to turn the human race into a walking buffet for the Leviathan to feed on once the world has been taken over. Roman discovers the existence of a tablet that is the only source on how to kill the Leviathan and stops at nothing to get it. The Winchesters, along with Castiel, also discover the tablet and the young prophet, Kevin Tran (Osric Chau), who is the only one who can decipher the text. Using the tablet, the boys are able to beat the Leviathan, but after the blast, Dean and Castiel find themselves in Purgatory and Sam finds himself alone.
Season Eight begins with Dean’s seemingly impossible escape from Purgatory, though Castiel is nowhere to be found. However, Dean isn’t alone. He’s returned with a mysterious comrade-in-arms whose reason for escape is perhaps more than Dean bargained for. Meanwhile, Sam finds himself reconciling the life he discovered while Dean was gone with Dean’s sudden reappearance. As the boys struggle with their unexpected reunion, they make a shocking discovery that could lead them on a deeply personal mission to settle old scores. If only they could agree – is this a “family business” or isn’t it?.

Doesn't say anything we didn't know already,but this still made me very excited.First of all,"shocking discovery" and settling old scores?My first thought was Crowley,but maybe they're talking about something else entirely.
Their disagreement is also very interesting,because it shows how much the characters have changed.Back in season 4,when Dean went to Hell,Sam became the poster boy of hunting.Now he considers a normal life again.It'll be cool to see how everything plays out.
Now we need a new promo.The Vampire Diaries one came out yesterday,so the others won't be far behind(I hope).
I hope Castiel will be ok :(

ReplyDeleteThat personal mission to settle old intrigue me. Could it be something related to what happened 27 years ago? An old demon coming back? or a new one?

And what about Cas? Still in purgatory or did Crowley manage to have his revenge?

ReplyDeleteI have always liked the way SPN makes the boys close to their real ages, and this sounds very interesting. Have to wonder what discovery they find that has them wondering if it is "family business".
ReplyDeleteThat does seem odd. I would put it at 29 years, and that leaves out both of the skip years, the one between season five and six and the one they now say will happen between seven and 8. Maybe this something they discover happened when Sam was 3 and Dean was 7? Or Sam was 5 and Dean was 9? The second would put it during the year they first encountered the Striga, something we have seen.

ReplyDeleteIt refers to Sam's age as he was only six months old when his mother died.
ReplyDeletePerhaps they have made a little mistake and it should have been twenty-eight years at least, as Sam was 22 in season one, if you count it out a year a season.
Anyway it has always been thought that a season of SPN was equal to one normal year, so season one was 2005 to 2006, season two was 2006 to 2007 and so on.
I don't know if i explained myself clear enough, I hope so. :)
There isn't really anything new in this article, however, the time span doesn't seem to fit right. If you add in the year that Dean was with Lisa and Ben, I would say it's more like 29 years. Maybe I did the math wrong...

ReplyDelete:) I'm intrigue about the ''deeply personnal mission'', it's been a while since the boys were really, closely, related to the big problem. Like the heaven's war wasn't really their war, they were just in the middle of it, more or less same thing last year. Finally a connection!

When the boys are saying the years, they always say the ''good'' year , like in Time after Time I'm pretty sure Dean said he came from 2012, so I guess the finale was around spring 2012 in the serie (maybe or maybe not may) + 1 year, it's should be around spring 2013 for the start of S8,couple of months ahead of us, which make more 29-30 years too

ReplyDeleteI didn't want to make thing too difficult by counting them too, so Sam should be 29 or 30, if we count in those two extra years.
I think they have just made a mistake because it quite clearly mentions Mary's death and that was when Sam was a baby.
However, as you say, perhaps they are going to go back in Time to a certain moment that would change the number of years that have actually passed.
Going back to Dean's Hell time, for example, could certainly change the whole time-line.
Maybe they are going to eliminate the whole angel/Ruby story. :)

ReplyDeleteAnd I know we're going to be seeing a lot of Cas in flashbacks, but I'm nervous about him. If he doesn't show up in the current timeline at some point, I'll be upset. I JUST WANT CAS TO BE OKAY.
It all sounds horrible to me, especially the last paragraph, but only time will tell if it's as bad as it seems.
ReplyDeleteI really hope it's all a misunderstanding and I get my loving brothers back, and not two emotionless and uncaring "mature" men.
I read somewhere that Jensen said that Jared had hardly been on set at all, and they were already doing episode five.
Sounds like the writers are turning SPN into a one brother show instead of two, and if that is so boo to them!.
I will the first one to be happy if Angel story-line is removed. Angels are supposed to be like ..ummm..politicians! They look for their own good and own benefits, not 'really' help humans. No one is more boring than an angel on your shoulder.

ReplyDeleteIf he said he was from 2012 in Season 7 Time After Time, then the writers forgot their 1 year jump in Season 6. Some fans need to start working with the writers to keep the timeline and past events straight. lol

ReplyDeleteAt the same time I'm not so sure that , at the end of S7, if they really should be a whole year in front of us
ReplyDeleteI mean, it's one year between the event of Swan Song and the S6, but in real we waited 4 months, so right there the difference it's ''only'' 8 months. They did couple of mistakes (like the calendar), but after between S6 and 7, there's like 5 seconds instead of 4 months in the real world. So the worse ''ahead'' the end of S7 should be is more like 4 months top...and since they rarely said ',today is the first week of mars'' or whatever, it's always hard to say if they're all exactly 1 year
So for all we know, the should could've catch up and if the show did, and S7 ended in sprint 2012, the next season start in spring 2013 , which is not 1 year ahead completely cause we waited ourself 4 1/2 month

ReplyDeleteI don't keep track of time signatures in Supernatural, but you are right. For all I know seasons 6 and 7 were one calendar year for the Winchesters but 2 calendar years for us.
ReplyDeleteI'm beginning to think that seasons 6 and 7 were closer to one year than two. After all, we started season 7 right where season 6 left off so there was no hellatus with show time.
ReplyDeleteIn my top 5 things I went to see in Supernatural season 8, a personal tie to the mytharc is number 2. It's been too long and I think the show's big arc was better when they were hunting for YED.

ReplyDeleteI always thought that the first five years were a season to our normal year.
ReplyDeleteThen in season six I believed that two years had passed, Deans's year with Lisa while Sam's soul was in the Cage and then Sam's six months soulless with Dean up to AAS, then the other six months of the season bringing the total to at least seven years gone before the beginning of the official season seven.
However, it's all just theory. maybe the writers will tell us how it is one day. :)
Yeah, but that´s a different narrative structure. Because of the case-of-the-week structure in every episode and the characters admitting very often that one or more weeks passed since a certain episode, it follows the traditional structure of one season=one year.

Lots to discuss, lots of questions and intrigued and personal connections and yet people just wanna play Winchester year mathematics again hehe Time travel makes my head hurt.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely cannot wait until October 3 gets here! I don't think any of us will be disappointed over Season 8. It will be definitely worth the wait in my opinion.
