season 8's myth arc-The Winchester's are trying to find the key to shut the gates of hell which what a coincidence happen to be in Lawrence Kansas. Ooooh Crowley is not going to like that!
Dean's arc-gung ho for hunting again, dodgy dealings with his Purgatory buddy, lying to his bro (I think Dean is baaackkk)
Sam's arc-safe and normal or hunting? (hey why not some kind of compromise?)
OMG!! This looks absolutely awesome!!! Can't wait! :D So it seems we finally know what their purpose will be this season and I love all the badassery in this small clip... I was excited with the purgatory flashbacks with the last promo but now the present timeline got me equally intrigued! Gosh, I shouldn't have seen this promo, now it'll be even harder to wait until october! haha.
What's bugging me is the Comic Con comment about S8 being about the boys, kevin and Crowley searching a power source together. The power source must be what they need to close the Door of Hell, but why would Crowley help?^^; Unless he's trying to find it to take it away from the boys (or destroy it). I'm guessing the second option
finally!thank god....!this looks awesome!i've gotta admit i didn't really enjoy season 6 or 7 because of storylines which where basically going nowhere...but wow!i'm really intrigued by the whole closing the gates of hell arc!
I'm guessing that's the case, the boys and Kevin searching for whatever they need to close the doors of Hell and Crowley searching for it to stop them from being able to do it. That or maybe that same source of power can be use for something else too that Crowley wants.
So Sam really didn't have no clue where they was. All I need Sam to say is "Dean I was looking everywhere for you" then im good to go. In look at Advance placement being all tuff in new do.lol
It looks very promising. Hopefully we'll get a good season like s4 & s5. And maybe Lucifer and Michael? And John Winchester? And God (Chuck)! I really want to see their faces when they find out that Chuck is god.
Now THAT is a promo! All I can say is welcome back, Jeremy Carver! This looks like the Supernatural I fell in love with. :) Now I can't wait till October!
Ooohh... Closing the gates of Hell forever. Crowley won't like that at all.
Anyone else have a feeling that they're going to find out that closing off Hell permanently will have some kind of unintended consequence? Like not only does it prevent the demons from getting out, it also stops souls from getting IN. Which means that the souls of all the evil people stay on Earth and become angry ghosts.
Nope. Season Nine. Dean's wanted to go after god since S5. Once the gates to hell are closed, HOPEFULLY with both boys on the right side, they will devote a season to Dean cleaning off his personal desk.
So far I have no freaking clue ;P We have no idea what they need tto find/do. One season could be about finding something and the second season of the arc about doing something with it...3rd I don't know xD
Just cause it's one thing doesn't mean it's going to be one season only ;P ''Killing the YED'' took 2 seasons after all. Or it could be two about that arc and the last about 'closing' the problems and everything.... I have no clue^^; Way too early to tell
Great promo, and what an awesome goal! The quest to close the doors of Hell forever! We'll never see Crowely again! D= Now I really can't wait until season 8, it looks like it's going to be great! Such high hopes, but... what about Cas? Did they just leave him there? He looks so lost, and sad! I wanna give him a hug.
Winchester hug was on many people's top wish list so it sounds like the fandom is happy for tonight at least. Good to see them together and on the same mission. Oh who am I kidding. It's just such a freaking piece of awesome to have new scenes at all.
Actually Crowley is their main rival this year. Carver said that their relationship was going to be very antagonistic which is why I think Crowley will end up being the big Bad and hopefully for a few years. I want this to be a 3 year quest.
This is bigger and better than all my speculation on what the quest could be. Love that it is so big and yet no out of human scope thus far. Score one for Carver in ramped up interest.
I hope in the next promo we get to see Crowley's reaction to finding out about the Word. Also curious how Kevin escaped Crowley. I really like that kid.
That's funny because I am getting a season 2 vibe where they have a very personal stake in stopping demons. Are season 4 and 5 your favorite? I'm thinking people are feeling the thrill of whatever their favorite season is with this promo. So excited everyone is excited.
I'm hoping the side effect is that closing the door to hell also means closing the door to Purgatory and heaven as well. Should be interesting to see if closing the door means that all demons are zapped back in hell or if it means that they stay wherever they are at when the door closes.
Not likely considering Jensen and Jared just renewed contracts through season 10, the leader of the CW (Mark Pedowitz) says he wants Supernatural to stay on the CW for as long as he is in charge, and Supernatural is still turning a profit for the WB. No way season 8 is the last. There's a season 9 coming at the very least.
I highly doubt this and quite frankly I would rather they drop God from the story line all together. This quest has a season 1 and 2 feel to it to me. I don't think they will resolve it in one season. I'm hoping it lasts for 3 seasons.
He did say that the mythology this year is designed to last 3 seasons so I'm hoping that season 10 ends with them finally killing Crowley. 3 years of Crowley as the Big Bad sounds excellent to me.
I'm thinking that they may need to find 3 separate things in order to get to the real and final Word of God. Or maybe the Word is in three pieces and that they will get one leg of the quest done each year.
I would hope they are not going to go there. We've already had that scenario 3 of the 7 years it's been on. Time to come up with a cliffhanger that doesn't end with them split up or someone dying.
I'd think that closing the doors of hell would make it even harder for Lucifer to bust out. He would be well and truly trapped. Then my question would be that if the angels knew about this word of God (and someone had to have written it) then why didn't they use that instead of the Winchester games to stop the Apocalypse?
I think Metatron was the scribe for the word of god. With the host of heaven up for grabs and more powerful angels wanting the apocalypse to happen the remaining angels may have just been running for cover until Castiel organized them.
That's jumping from S7 to S6 to S4 I think. I'm pretty sure Castiel named Metatron in the episode in the asylum.
Purgatory is already closed. The only reason it ever opened was that spell Cas used and that can only be done during an eclipse, and then also, whatever "Benny" did to get him and Dean out.
I'm thinking the door to Purgatory is not steadfast either since Dean and Benny do get out. As did the Mother of All, Dr. Visyak, all the Alphas, and the Leviathans. It could use a permanent seal too.
Metatron was the name given in Reading is Fundamental. Still I would think that the archangels would grab more power by not battling Lucifer. Keep Lucy locked up, Gabe still in WitSec, and that only leaves Michael and Raphael to share the power or duke it out among themselves. No need for the Apocalypse at all - just do the spell to keep Lucifer out of the game forever and voila instant extra power.
Dahne's right, it is too repetative, thought I wouldn't put it past them to try it, just for the suspense of things. Then Castiel could pull either brother out. Why don't they make Cas be stuck in Hell for a change? .... They could come up with some weird reason why he can't escape...
Michael and Raphael sharing power would have been something to see. Michael really had no use for anyone and Raphael had a bug up his ass from having to watch over Chuck. Would have been great seeing those two butt heads.
And I still don't like that they had no archangel to watch over Kevin.
i never said season 8 was all i said is this sounds like an endgame plot whether thats season 10 or later remains to be seen i think closing the gates to hell will be a multiple season arc like 3 seasons or more and i have a feeling the series will end where the gates of hell will close so they wont have to fight demons anymore and of coutre i know Supernatural is a huge sucess for the CW and Warner Bros. Television :)
That's the one thing I really don't like about this show. It's like pro wrestling now as bad guys are as popular as the good guys. Give me a bad guy EVERYBODY hates. Like Zod in Superman 3.
I blame Anthony Hopkins for being so damn good as Hannibal Lecter.
Bwah!!!! Wasn't Cas attempting some angel promotion of his own? Maybe we could have avoided the Leviathan mess if heaven had just set up some interviews. :-P
Well there was Zachariah. I don't think anyone liked him. Personally I also hated Ruby and Lucifer, no sympathy for them at all. Come to think of it, no one was spreading love for Dick Roman either. Of course he was so bland it was hard to feel one way or another about him at all.
Oh, that would be great! If they discovered that, like, mid-season, and realized they've have to say good by to Castiel as well. Castiel would have to decide whether to stay with his friends, or be locked out of Heaven forever. My interest in this season just gets bigger and bigger!
the best promo ever see the quality over the top.THE FUTURE STORYLINE.JESUS CHRIST THIS WILL GIVE THE FANS A HEART ATTACK,CHARACTER APPEARANCE ..completely AWESOME AND NEW A PERFECT 10 PLUS
The bad guy has to be hard to kill. Zach was on the first try. Ruby was tougher than Zach. Lucifer kept coming back but Mark P. had a huge fan base so I think he was pretty popular. Horsemen? More like Ponyboys. Death could be a bad ass but people love him too. I want despicable. I want deplorable. I want the guy who kicks dogs. Give me Hans Gruber. Someone who says "tell me and I won't kill you" and then kills you.
so true. Part of me doesn't want it to come because the anticipation is so much fun, but the other part of me just wants to see it all immediately. ha.
I don't think the closing of Hell's gate is a one season story I think this will last for another season or maybe even until the last season and that's how the boys don't end up bloody or sad (to quote Cris Angel's a Douche Bag)
I guess closing Hell, Purgatory and Heaven would somewhat cut off the continuing "invasion" of Supernatural creatures to earth. Soclosing all three places would be something Sam and Dean would want to happen, there are more then enough creatures to hunt alreading roaming earth.
But if Purgatory is closed.....were would dead supernatural beings end up? Would that make the impossible to kill, because they have no afterlife place anymore? Hmmmm.
I'd love to see that as well! Three seasons with Crowley as the Big Bad....yessss. After seasons 6 and 7 and their not really well developed BigBads, more Crowley would be so great to see....more Mark A. Shepared is always a bonus.
I was also thinking season 2, were the guys just could be hunters of the Supernatural, doing their family business. Without so much of the destiny crap, world ending and all that stuff on a global scale, that governs later seasons.
I wasn't that happy with the overall tone of season 6 and 7 but this trailer gives me hope that under Caver this is to change with season 8. And that's more then I could hope for.
Yes, and it's a very different type of goal for them. They aren't trying to kill one bad thing (Yellow Eyes, Lucifer, Dick) or stop one bad thing from happening (Apocalypse, opening Purgatory). Instead they have a goal of their own that other people will want to stop them from doing. Very different dynamic without having to add new things (angel, leviathans). Could be interesting.
Actually my favorite seasons are 2 and 3! I don't really know why the promo reminded me of seasons 4 and 5.. It just felt almost as if we were going back in time a couple of years!
I cannot wait for October 3! Another time warp, another reunion hug between the brothers, Cass in a bad place in Purgatory and Dean explaining just how he got out. Amazing! Awesome! Kevin is turning out to be quite the prophet after all. I miss Chuck, but, hey, looks all grown up and seems to be able to handle himself pretty well. Welcome back, Jeremy Carver! This season is going to be a great one as usual and definitely worth the long wait!
I hope they don't end up closing the gates too early, because it's a brilliant storyline that's also not TOO complicated, and leaves space for character development and other styrylines. I hate when I start to think that even the showrunner doesn't know where the hell the season is going (no pun intended).
From what's been shown on Supernatural there were only 4 archangels- Michael stuck in cage, Lucifer stuck in cage, Gabriel dead, and Raphael dead. So no more archangels to watch out for Kevin.
Plus Heaven's been through a Civil War, Souled-powered Castiel, and then finally some Leviathans. From what Cas said in the finale, his garrison could be completely gone or hiding, and the rest of the angels, I am sure there aren't many left.
Cas is already stuck in Purgatory. And when Dean gets free I doubt he does, for whatever reason. Isn't that enough?
I say no to anyone but demons getting caught. I mean why would anyone get caught there? They shouldn't have to go on the other side to close it...hopefully. I'm tired of people getting stuck in Hell.
Plus, come on, Hell's way too boring now with the long lines and all. lol :P
From what S.E. Hinton wrote on her Twitter after being on set, if Cas was left behind, it was for a reason. She said Dean and Cas were friends again after their time in Purgatory. Even used the word "protective". So a doubt Dean left Cas in less Cas wasn't able to leave for some reason (Example, maybe Benny would/could only help one of them or something).
Yeah, everything with purgatory opening has all been with spells. If there were no more spells to open it/they didn't work anymore, then there would be no more problems with Purgatory. It's not as open as Hell is.
It's certainly not as big of an issue with all the Leviathans and Alphas dead or wandering the Earth. Nothing really left in Purgatory that is too scary after everything.
Creatures breed on Earth. Demons are formed in Hell. There will never be a quick fix to getting rid of vampires, werewolves, etc.
If they close the gates to hell and demons are no longer the big bads running the hell show on earth anymore doesnt that mean the monsters have free reign to take over?
The first 5 episodes are Sam light, Jared has had quite a bit of time off. There shouldnt be any surprises about that. We knew the season would be Dean heavy due to where last season left off and the spoilers released. Not to mention Jared has other priorities now.
If people are prepared for it maybe they wont complain? Or is that just wishful thinking?
I'll wager the only people not complaining this year are the Dean fans. Mythology arc connection, POV, Dean heavy episodes, lots of interaction with other characters, weapon wielding, fight scenes, trademark sarcasm and one liners, being the good and righteous brother?
If Dean fans complain this season I swear I'll just give up with the fandom.
I do have to say that I always thought of a garrison as 7 or 8 of the closest allies. And then based the population of heaven as being much more for a civil war.
I better stick to my medication schedule. I'm looking WAY too deeply into this.
Lol, right. I also have a feeling Cas is left in Purgatory for some reason. I hope he's just stuck, and not dead. When Sam asked, "Where's Cas" or something like that, I kind of thought Dean was going to say, "He didn't make it"
Even if there would be a bunch of angels left, as far as we know there are/were only 4 archangels- no others have been pointed out by Supernatural.
And yeah, takes a lot for a war, but they can kill each other during those wars, and Cas killed a lot when full of the Purgatory souls. (He went after a bunch of Raphael's allies so that may have been nearly half the population, who knows?)
I had the thought that garrisons are a little bigger then that - but I'm thinking in army thought- even though I don't know exactly how many soldiers there are in the smallest group. You could be right.
When I say that I think there aren't many left I mean the way it sounds, it sounds like half of Heaven's angels are dead.
However many have died, it is an issue. Definitely can see why the angels would want to help Sam and Dean close Hell's gates. If they weren't outnumbered before Season 4, I'd imagine they are now.
If he even still has powers when he gets out of Purgatory. He doesn't look like he has any powers there. Maybe they'll resurface when he gets out...he has to get out!
Yikes- it has crossed my mind but I pushed it away because...yikes. I think I'd cry if he said Cas was dead. I've grown attached and it's bad enough Bobby's gone. :(
I'd really prefer Cas becoming human over that (especially since he's already died 3 times). Gee writers, don't have to kill everyone off- there are other ways of seeing them less or on a less-powered scale.
I think no matter how evil someone is, there's going to be a fan that likes them. lol
The only evil villain on the show I hated period for what he/she was was....was....um...hm probably Zachariah. Every other villain was just annoying or boring or I loved to hate them, like Alastair #2.
Yes, Zachariah was a DICK, using Deans words here. ;) Kurt Fuller was excellent in this role and was always a character I did not trust or like, but enjoyed him on the show. Does that make any sense at all???
Yeah, how many times are they going to kill Cas anyways? I have grown very attached to Cas, mostly because of his friendship with Dean. If he is stuck in Purgatory, I hope we see a bit of what he's going through there, not just focus on the boys for 20 episodes, then have him return in episode 21 or something with little explaination.
WOW, I gotta say, I agree. This had more punch then seasons ... well, for a LONG time! HELL FRIGGING YEAH! Er.. Hell no? Haha. Looking /forward/ to this!
Oh man, this seasons looking GOOD. More Crowley, and he's actually a strong figure-head it looks like! Some non-angsty brother on brother action, where they're smiling and looking /confident/ instead of beat down, some heart-clinching images of Cas, and the beautiful undertones of ROCK.
My favorite seasons were.. everything before 6! This definitely has a season 2/3 vibe to me! I loved seasons 4 and 5, but what I love about this promo is that it seems to REALLY get back to the roots of Supernatural WHILE KEEPING THE NEWER ELEMENTS!!
For instance, the earlier season's rock vibe, with the brothers and less angst, more confident hunting, /and/ Cas, /and/ Crowley, /and/ Kevin! We not only get the brotherly hug, we get (many of) our favorite angel looking all mushy-wanna-give-great-big-hug, /and/ we get a promising story line, with a VERY promising bad guy (who doesn't love Crowley???)
A few clips doth not a season make, but I hope it does live up to expectations.
I have to say that the hug disappointed me a lot. There was none of the emotion or pathos of the previous ones. It just looked like two guys giving each other a pat on the back and not a reunion of two brothers after a year of not knowing where the other was, or even if he was still alive.
Even the hug with soulless Sam in Exile On Main Street was more intense.
Thomas will have nothing to do with any Sam light episodes this season and it certainly isnt a excuse or reason for them .Will people be unhappy of course .Esp after how poor Sam's story was told last season and the instant fix and how when it is Sam's story Dean is heavily involved and ends up getting more pov than Sam does and we dont get Dean light episodes . The Purgatory sl excludes Sam therefore it is easy to write episodes where they focus on Dean's purgatory and Sam is a light presence.
For this reason the show will never be balanced What I am hoping for is that when they do focus on Sam's story it is taken has seriously and given the same focus. Sam light episodes have become the norm rather than the exception and now part of the show's writing personally I can decide wether I want to watch and sit through a Sam light episode again or not.
I haven't really been paying all that much attention to the spoilers for season 8 as I honestly don't yet have a clear idea of what's going on.
I haven't seen season seven yet, still waiting for the dvd which doesn't come out here until November but I obviously have followed all the posts, and more or less know the story but until one actually sees the eps one can't get a true idea of it all.
I must admit to not being in an optimistic mood over this new season. There's no logical reason for it, as the little I have seen seems to point to an exciting ride. It could be that I'm just a hopeless nostalgic at heart for when the brothers were the true focus of the show. However, like everyone else I'm curious to see what the start of the new season will bring.
The fact that the first five episodes are Sam light isn't to be taken for granted as if it's normal. It's a sad day when the guest stars get more attention than the co-star and if we want to go deeper, Jared is the first star billed in the show credits. X For me they should have as much Sam presence as Dean presence, otherwise the show is completely out of balance. I can't understand why the writers are not not using one of their main co-stars as much as possible.
Why Sam is being pushed to the back ground is a mystery to me and I wish the writers would clear up that point for us.
The Amelia thing in my opinion is just a little bone for Sam but I really can't see it as being important or crucial to the story-line . It's been done before. The only real change would be if she gives Sam a child. That's the only difference that could come of a girl-friend story-line. X In my opinion, Sam should have been sent to Purgatory with his brother and had to fight his way out side by side with him, but that is not the case unless the whole "perception" thing means that everything we think is going on isn't. X As for Jared having a child; to think that that could have any influence on his screen time is a mistake. He isn't the only actor to have had a baby and it could never influence his job in any way. If it had been Jensen to have had the baby instead of Jared would that have meant that Dean would never have been on-screen because he had to stay home with the baby? I think not.
Until I'm proven wrong, it seems that poor Sam has been put in a corner for reasons known only to the writers.
It's a good promo. It's nice to see something fresh and I think I'm going to like having Kevin around.
I like the story being about the hell doors being sealed off. If they can accomplish that, that would make a nice closure for the series.
I hope though that if they're going to put a stronger focus around Hell and demons that the writers stop trying to pretend Sam's storyline of the first few years, and his special connection to demons, never existed. I'm not sure what the right angle to take with this is, but if Dean is "blood brothers" with vampires now, Sam is most certainly "blood brothers" with demons - in Sam's case, literally. Just a thought, but maybe if Sam is no longer interested in hunting, and his try again at a relationship backfires, maybe he'll start to reconsider his decision to not pursue his king of hell destiny. It's doubtful, but it could be where the writers are going with this Sam-tries-for-normal-again storyline. I just hope wherever they are going, it's because there's a plan for Sam's development. I need for this relationship storyline to feel like a natural progression for Sam, and it's not just a storyline that was inserted because it makes a convenient contrast to where they want Dean to be this season. This story should lead to something bigger, in a supernatural way, not in a domestic way.
That does sound more plausible. Wonder if heaven would start t look like purgatory then? No one to "tend the gardens". Seedy angels exploiting the good ones. Looking more like Detroit than San Diego.
OK. It just seems like everything you are posting these days is negative. You of course have every right to feel that way and to post your opinion as much as you want. Not saying that. It's just, for lack of a non-70's phrase, it is harshing my season 8 high. I'm going to stop reading your posts until season 8 starts so we can both go into season 8 with our preferred attitude. I hope you end up liking it more than you think you will.
Fair enough, although it wasn't my intention to bring negativity down on the show but just to try and understand the seemingly changed dynamics that the spoilers appear to indicate.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
oh my goooddd this looks AWESOME!!!!!cant wait!!!!
ReplyDeleteNow this is all kinds of awesome. What's not to like ?
ReplyDeleteWinchester hug - Priceless
ReplyDelete*__* HOLY MOTHER OF CASS "!*(&/(*"&/*("*/(
ReplyDeleteI JUST CAN'T....)"/)(/&"/?&&("*?/$*%?"
;P I don't like that the promo is 1 minute long instead of 23 eps long
ReplyDeleteOkay. Now I finally feel like I know what's going on this season. Also? Awesome.
ReplyDeleteI hope we have the same excitement when all the 23 episodes are done!!
ReplyDeleteseason 8's myth arc-The Winchester's are trying to find the key to shut the gates of hell which what a coincidence happen to be in Lawrence Kansas. Ooooh Crowley is not going to like that!

That's AWESOME! Love it so much! HUG! Dean's okay! ;) And yes please! Close the gates forever! Loving this new season already!
ReplyDeleteOMG!! This looks absolutely awesome!!! Can't wait! :D So it seems we finally know what their purpose will be this season and I love all the badassery in this small clip...

ReplyDeleteOoohh Crowley when are you going to stop having your secret agenda? ;)
ReplyDelete.....Naahh scratch that, keep this up Crowley that's why we love you :D
So Sam really didn't have no clue where they was.
ReplyDeleteAll I need Sam to say is "Dean I was looking everywhere for you" then im good to go.
In look at Advance placement being all tuff in new do.lol
Hell yeah... Crowley being Crowley is always fun to watch, he should never change! heh.
ReplyDeleteCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete*KEELS OVER* *IS DEAD*
AND KEVIN OMG HE BECAME AWESOME. USING A SUPERSOAKER FOR BORAX! AND IT LOOKS LIKE HIS GIRLFRIEND IS POSSESSED!
AND THE BOYS HAVE AN ACTUAL QUEST THIS SEASON! HOORAY!
Super super super excited!!! I'm getting a season 4-5 vibe from it. Not bad at all!:)
ReplyDeleteCrowley's working against the Winchester's this season.
ReplyDeleteCrowley's the best anti-hero EVER :D
ReplyDeleteThanks, someone took one too many beer before making Comic Con comments ;P
ReplyDeletePoor cas he looks so lost and pitiful. Misha looks like a puppy I wanna hug him.
ReplyDeletec
Is it Dean in the background with Cass at 00:50.. or someone else, or maybe i'm just imagine things.
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Kevin. Go all advanced placement on their asses.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see that Dean can handle himself in Purgatory (I hope. There's not really a lot to go on here).
ReplyDeleteKevin Tran from Advanced Placement got hot
ReplyDeleteThis promo has made my day! Love it so much, cannot wait for another!!
ReplyDeleteI see him/her/it too. You're just as sane as I am (which, after watching this promo, really isn't saying much...).
ReplyDeleteLooks alright! idk if water, however holy it is, being thrown and tipped on people counts as being trailer or promo material though.

Wow! It looks awesome! Now that's how you do a promo! Hooray for Kevin Tran I guess his AP classes have fallen to the wayside).
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! Awesome!!! So I was excited yesterday for the little promo, but this one just got me like a hundred times more excited!!!! =D
ReplyDeleteSeason 8 looks wicked hopefully its better than the previous two seasons
ReplyDeleteFinally the old spirit is back on the show *-*
ReplyDeleteIt looks very promising. Hopefully we'll get a good season like s4 & s5. And maybe Lucifer and Michael? And John Winchester? And God (Chuck)! I really want to see their faces when they find out that Chuck is god.
ReplyDeleteNow THAT is a promo! All I can say is welcome back, Jeremy Carver! This looks like the Supernatural I fell in love with. :) Now I can't wait till October!
ReplyDeleteOoohh... Closing the gates of Hell forever. Crowley won't like that at all.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else have a feeling that they're going to find out that closing off Hell permanently will have some kind of unintended consequence? Like not only does it prevent the demons from getting out, it also stops souls from getting IN. Which means that the souls of all the evil people stay on Earth and become angry ghosts.
Awesome promo. *thud*
ReplyDeleteI think it's the haircut. :D
ReplyDeleteAnd it doesn't look like it will be followed by an attempted knife stabbing like in the season four premiere, so bonus points for that.
ReplyDeleteOh, you know the fandom at large will be complaining in full force by episode 3 about something, LOL!
ReplyDeleteoh... I was counting that this time we'd actually see some purgatory action BEFORE Dean comes back, not like it was in the case of hell. Well...
ReplyDeletebut still, awesome promo. I'm superexcited!!!
I had figured Sam didn't know because Crowley didn't tell him, and Dean and Cas didn't even know that would happen until they were stuck in Purgatory.
ReplyDeleteNo, no, no. He looks like a tennis ball with ears.
ReplyDeleteIt does look like Dean, that is what I first thought.
ReplyDeleteIn less some evil creature is creeping up behind him - which I think is unlikely.
Looks like Season 9 is all about going after god.
ReplyDeleteYes. Very well defined lines of good vs. evil with a "brass ring" at the end. Classic storytelling.
ReplyDeleteSeason 9 problems.
ReplyDeleteWas that Dean in Purgatory covered in blood?
ReplyDeleteYep. My vote is for Sam's hair being first on the list followed closely by Sam not getting enough story time.
ReplyDeleteAnd Purgatory STILL looks like my back yard.
ReplyDeleteseason 8 you mean?it looks like it is going after the word of God to close off hell to earth im guessing this could be an endgame for the series
ReplyDeletei liked the previous 2 seasons just not as much as seasons 4 and 5 which are my favourite thats just my opinion though probaly
ReplyDeleteAhhh!!! Wasn't sure if I wanted to watch it or not...and I'm glad I did! All I can say it...HUG!!!!!!!! Man! Three more weeks...EEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNope. Season Nine. Dean's wanted to go after god since S5. Once the gates to hell are closed, HOPEFULLY with both boys on the right side, they will devote a season to Dean cleaning off his personal desk.
ReplyDeleteWhat if the gates get sealed and the boys are on opposite sides?
ReplyDeleteLike they'd go so far to do that.
ReplyDeleteMy personnal guess is that it will take more than 1 season to close the doors. Maybe the whole 3 next seasons of Carver's story
ReplyDeleteIs there enough material there to do that?
ReplyDeleteSo far I have no freaking clue ;P We have no idea what they need tto find/do. One season could be about finding something and the second season of the arc about doing something with it...3rd I don't know xD
ReplyDeleteJust cause it's one thing doesn't mean it's going to be one season only ;P ''Killing the YED'' took 2 seasons after all. Or it could be two about that arc and the last about 'closing' the problems and everything.... I have no clue^^; Way too early to tell
Great promo, and what an awesome goal! The quest to close the doors of Hell forever! We'll never see Crowely again! D=
ReplyDeleteNow I really can't wait until season 8, it looks like it's going to be great! Such high hopes, but... what about Cas? Did they just leave him there? He looks so lost, and sad!
I wanna give him a hug.
This promo makes me laugh, awwwww, and get even more excited for season 8. Kudos CW. This one is a winner.
ReplyDeleteRight there with you. I wonder if this Word of God closes only the door to heel or if it closes the doors to Purgatory and heaven too.
ReplyDeleteAwww, you have so much faith. I'd say complaining again in full force before the first episode. Then definitely by the second.
ReplyDeleteWinchester hug was on many people's top wish list so it sounds like the fandom is happy for tonight at least. Good to see them together and on the same mission. Oh who am I kidding. It's just such a freaking piece of awesome to have new scenes at all.
ReplyDeleteActually Crowley is their main rival this year. Carver said that their relationship was going to be very antagonistic which is why I think Crowley will end up being the big Bad and hopefully for a few years. I want this to be a 3 year quest.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but it's sure fun to toss the ideas around!
ReplyDeleteUnless Crowley's on this side when they close.
ReplyDeleteThere's always a catch with this sort of thing so I wouldn't rule that out.
ReplyDeleteyeah, I guess it's the demeanor what makes the tennis ball so sexy.
ReplyDelete:) Yup! That's why I threw a guess (and a few ones in my last post) in the mix myself
ReplyDeleteOooo, a cutoff Crowley needing to find another base of power. I like the way you think.
ReplyDeleteThis is bigger and better than all my speculation on what the quest could be. Love that it is so big and yet no out of human scope thus far. Score one for Carver in ramped up interest.
ReplyDeleteAgree. I'm getting this massive crush on Mark Sheppard because he always plays the most interesting characters.
ReplyDeleteI hope in the next promo we get to see Crowley's reaction to finding out about the Word. Also curious how Kevin escaped Crowley. I really like that kid.
ReplyDeletePurgatory looks like it is going to be a lot of action. So excited for Dean to be kicking monster butt in Purgatory. I miss the heavy action scenes.
ReplyDeleteWasn't Lucifer's Cage in like a back room of Hell? Would that render the rings ineffective sealing that off too?
ReplyDeleteKevin Tran is looking more hero-y these days. I guess being a prophet suits him.
ReplyDeleteYou know the boys could end up on opposite sides, too!
ReplyDeleteSam chasing Crowley around up top, Dean banging on the doors from down below.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny because I am getting a season 2 vibe where they have a very personal stake in stopping demons. Are season 4 and 5 your favorite? I'm thinking people are feeling the thrill of whatever their favorite season is with this promo. So excited everyone is excited.
ReplyDeleteI see tumblr got a whole of some shirtless picks of advance placement.lol
ReplyDeleteBwah! Kevin is definitely taking to being a prophet better than old Chuck did. I like this action prophet thing he's got going.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping the side effect is that closing the door to hell also means closing the door to Purgatory and heaven as well. Should be interesting to see if closing the door means that all demons are zapped back in hell or if it means that they stay wherever they are at when the door closes.
ReplyDeleteNot likely considering Jensen and Jared just renewed contracts through season 10, the leader of the CW (Mark Pedowitz) says he wants Supernatural to stay on the CW for as long as he is in charge, and Supernatural is still turning a profit for the WB. No way season 8 is the last. There's a season 9 coming at the very least.
ReplyDeleteI highly doubt this and quite frankly I would rather they drop God from the story line all together. This quest has a season 1 and 2 feel to it to me. I don't think they will resolve it in one season. I'm hoping it lasts for 3 seasons.
ReplyDeleteHe did say that the mythology this year is designed to last 3 seasons so I'm hoping that season 10 ends with them finally killing Crowley. 3 years of Crowley as the Big Bad sounds excellent to me.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking that they may need to find 3 separate things in order to get to the real and final Word of God. Or maybe the Word is in three pieces and that they will get one leg of the quest done each year.
ReplyDeleteIt feels simultaneously closer and farther away since seeing that promo. Another Supernatural paradox.
ReplyDeleteI would hope they are not going to go there. We've already had that scenario 3 of the 7 years it's been on. Time to come up with a cliffhanger that doesn't end with them split up or someone dying.
ReplyDeleteNah, that's too repetitive.
ReplyDeleteI thought about that and realized forever means nothing in the SPN world.
ReplyDeleteI'd think that closing the doors of hell would make it even harder for Lucifer to bust out. He would be well and truly trapped. Then my question would be that if the angels knew about this word of God (and someone had to have written it) then why didn't they use that instead of the Winchester games to stop the Apocalypse?
ReplyDeleteI think Metatron was the scribe for the word of god. With the host of heaven up for grabs and more powerful angels wanting the apocalypse to happen the remaining angels may have just been running for cover until Castiel organized them.
ReplyDeleteThat's jumping from S7 to S6 to S4 I think. I'm pretty sure Castiel named Metatron in the episode in the asylum.
I laugh at Crowley getting doused. lol
ReplyDeletePurgatory is already closed. The only reason it ever opened was that spell Cas used and that can only be done during an eclipse, and then also, whatever "Benny" did to get him and Dean out.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking the door to Purgatory is not steadfast either since Dean and Benny do get out. As did the Mother of All, Dr. Visyak, all the Alphas, and the Leviathans. It could use a permanent seal too.
ReplyDeleteMetatron was the name given in Reading is Fundamental.
ReplyDeleteOMG, right! I hadn't thought of that. Crowely all alone... Awww
ReplyDeleteDahne's right, it is too repetative, thought I wouldn't put it past them to try it, just for the suspense of things.
ReplyDeleteThen Castiel could pull either brother out.
Why don't they make Cas be stuck in Hell for a change? .... They could come up with some weird reason why he can't escape...
I kept wondering if maybe, they left him there....
ReplyDeleteI hope not, Castiel always gets the worse end of things...
Michael and Raphael sharing power would have been something to see. Michael really had no use for anyone and Raphael had a bug up his ass from having to watch over Chuck. Would have been great seeing those two butt heads.
ReplyDeleteAnd I still don't like that they had no archangel to watch over Kevin.
Promote from within, dammit!
i never said season 8 was all i said is this sounds like an endgame plot whether thats season 10 or later remains to be seen i think closing the gates to hell will be a multiple season arc like 3 seasons or more and i have a feeling the series will end where the gates of hell will close so they wont have to fight demons anymore and of coutre i know Supernatural is a huge sucess for the CW and Warner Bros. Television :)
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the Alpha Vamp needs to fit in here somewhere and what about Benny?
ReplyDeleteAs long as it stays 'Must Watch TV" I don't really care what they do. Except if they were to have Crowley's demon start body-hopping like Meg.
ReplyDeleteHonestly compared to Crowley they are secondary worries. AlphaVamp might even join the Winchesters on the hunt for Crowley given their history.
ReplyDeleteThat's the one thing I really don't like about this show. It's like pro wrestling now as bad guys are as popular as the good guys. Give me a bad guy EVERYBODY hates. Like Zod in Superman 3.
ReplyDeleteI blame Anthony Hopkins for being so damn good as Hannibal Lecter.
Bwah!!!! Wasn't Cas attempting some angel promotion of his own? Maybe we could have avoided the Leviathan mess if heaven had just set up some interviews. :-P
ReplyDeleteWell there was Zachariah. I don't think anyone liked him. Personally I also hated Ruby and Lucifer, no sympathy for them at all. Come to think of it, no one was spreading love for Dick Roman either. Of course he was so bland it was hard to feel one way or another about him at all.
ReplyDeleteYikes! Crowley played by someone other than Mark Sheppard. Nooooo! You are right, that would be terrible.
ReplyDeleteOh, that would be great! If they discovered that, like, mid-season, and realized they've have to say good by to Castiel as well.
ReplyDeleteCastiel would have to decide whether to stay with his friends, or be locked out of Heaven forever.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of Castiel stuck somewhere. He'd have to have some powers though. I don't see him going all Bear Grylls on us.
ReplyDeleteThe bad guy has to be hard to kill.
ReplyDeleteI really feel bad for liking Alastair for the torture to our boys. But his performance made me bow down.
ReplyDeleteso true. Part of me doesn't want it to come because the anticipation is so much fun, but the other part of me just wants to see it all immediately. ha.
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to figure out what kind of accent he had. He sounded diabolical.
ReplyDeleteI have no clue but it was creepy.lol
ReplyDeleteI need to look him up, he was in Twilight looking creepy on that too.
I don't think the closing of Hell's gate is a one season story I think this will last for another season or maybe even until the last season and that's how the boys don't end up bloody or sad (to quote Cris Angel's a Douche Bag)
ReplyDeleteoh my god....i hope they didn't leave him there:( poor cas....
ReplyDeleteOh my Chuck!!!! I need it NOW!!!
ReplyDeleteAgreed. And it's about time we get kick-it-in-the-ass-Dean back. It's been too long.
ReplyDeleteHmm a permanent seal for closing Purgatory....could be material for season 9. :)
ReplyDeleteI guess closing Hell, Purgatory and Heaven would somewhat cut off the continuing "invasion" of Supernatural creatures to earth.
ReplyDeleteSoclosing all three places would be something Sam and Dean would want to happen, there are more then enough creatures to hunt alreading roaming earth.
But if Purgatory is closed.....were would dead supernatural beings end up? Would that make the impossible to kill, because they have no afterlife place anymore?
Hmmmm.
I'd love to see that as well!
ReplyDeleteThree seasons with Crowley as the Big Bad....yessss.
After seasons 6 and 7 and their not really well developed BigBads, more Crowley would be so great to see....more Mark A. Shepared is always a bonus.
I doubt we something that stupid happen under Carver.
ReplyDeleteI was also thinking season 2, were the guys just could be hunters of the Supernatural, doing their family business.
ReplyDeleteWithout so much of the destiny crap, world ending and all that stuff on a global scale, that governs later seasons.
I wasn't that happy with the overall tone of season 6 and 7 but this trailer gives me hope that under Caver this is to change with season 8.
And that's more then I could hope for.
Awesome stuff.
ReplyDeleteI totally had a fanboy moment when I saw this! I started freaking out!! THIS PROMO IS AMAZING!!!!!!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2Uo0ubfcWU - THIS IS MY FREAKOUT :D
Great promo. And from the looks of it great season!
ReplyDeleteLovecraft opened it with a spell and let Bobby's friend out.
ReplyDeleteI wish they had kept Chris' Alastair around, he was very scary.
ReplyDeletebut born in Canada He is great in Hell on Wheels also.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.imdb.com/name/nm0382216/
Come on Castiel, get out of there too! Awesome Promo this season!
ReplyDeleteThe first time I'm really excited for Season 8. Looks great to me :)
ReplyDeleteYes, and it's a very different type of goal for them.
ReplyDeleteActually my favorite seasons are 2 and 3! I don't really know why the promo reminded me of seasons 4 and 5.. It just felt almost as if we were going back in time a couple of years!
ReplyDeleteAnd the lack of Cas / too much Cas. :P Oh how I love this fandom...
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait for October 3!
ReplyDeleteI hope they don't end up closing the gates too early, because it's a brilliant storyline that's also not TOO complicated, and leaves space for character development and other styrylines. I hate when I start to think that even the showrunner doesn't know where the hell the season is going (no pun intended).
ReplyDeleteI liked Chuck better than Kevin, but so looking forward to Oct 3.
ReplyDeleteHe's not so freaked out anymore. XD
ReplyDeleteFrom what's been shown on Supernatural there were only 4 archangels- Michael stuck in cage, Lucifer stuck in cage, Gabriel dead, and Raphael dead. So no more archangels to watch out for Kevin.
ReplyDeletePlus Heaven's been through a Civil War, Souled-powered Castiel, and then finally some Leviathans. From what Cas said in the finale, his garrison could be completely gone or hiding, and the rest of the angels, I am sure there aren't many left.
Cas is already stuck in Purgatory. And when Dean gets free I doubt he does, for whatever reason. Isn't that enough?
ReplyDeleteI say no to anyone but demons getting caught.
ReplyDeleteThis comforts me.
Mmm yeah.
ReplyDeleteYeah, everything with purgatory opening has all been with spells. If there were no more spells to open it/they didn't work anymore, then there would be no more problems with Purgatory. It's not as open as Hell is.
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly not as big of an issue with all the Leviathans and Alphas dead or wandering the Earth. Nothing really left in Purgatory that is too scary after everything.
Creatures breed on Earth. Demons are formed in Hell. There will never be a quick fix to getting rid of vampires, werewolves, etc.
I liked Chuck more at first too, but Kevin's really grown on me now. Especially now it seems he is more mature.
ReplyDeleteOne name: Alastair
ReplyDeleteIn Twilight? I've seen the movies and do not remember him in that.
ReplyDeleteAt least there will be lots of flashbacks. :)
ReplyDeleteI think its set up to be a storyline that can last one season or many depending on how many years the CW want to keep the show around for.
ReplyDeleteIf they close the gates to hell and demons are no longer the big bads running the hell show on earth anymore doesnt that mean the monsters have free reign to take over?
ReplyDeleteThe first 5 episodes are Sam light, Jared has had quite a bit of time off. There shouldnt be any surprises about that. We knew the season would be Dean heavy due to where last season left off and the spoilers released. Not to mention Jared has other priorities now.
ReplyDeleteIf people are prepared for it maybe they wont complain? Or is that just wishful thinking?
I'll wager the only people not complaining this year are the Dean fans. Mythology arc connection, POV, Dean heavy episodes, lots of interaction with other characters, weapon wielding, fight scenes, trademark sarcasm and one liners, being the good and righteous brother?
ReplyDeleteIf Dean fans complain this season I swear I'll just give up with the fandom.
After perusing the YouTube page of "I Am Human" I'm going with wishful thinking.
ReplyDeleteHeaven definitely needs some form of census so I can have numbers to fall back on!
ReplyDeleteI do have to say that I always thought of a garrison as 7 or 8 of the closest allies. And then based the population of heaven as being much more for a civil war.
ReplyDeleteI better stick to my medication schedule. I'm looking WAY too deeply into this.
Yeah, he was evil but too many people love the guy. I want early 80's Iron Sheik vs Hulk Hogan type feeling.
ReplyDeleteBut only the last one, the others were not that good, meaning scary. lol
ReplyDeleteLol, right.
ReplyDeleteI also have a feeling Cas is left in Purgatory for some reason. I hope he's just stuck, and not dead. When Sam asked, "Where's Cas" or something like that, I kind of thought Dean was going to say, "He didn't make it"
Yeah, that makes me feel better, I love it when they're friends. I would have hated it if Dean just left him there.
ReplyDeleteEven if there would be a bunch of angels left, as far as we know there are/were only 4 archangels- no others have been pointed out by Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, takes a lot for a war, but they can kill each other during those wars, and Cas killed a lot when full of the Purgatory souls.
If they weren't outnumbered before Season 4, I'd imagine they are now.
lol I'd like that too. The writers should make a book of info that the show doesn't inform us about.
ReplyDeleteIf he even still has powers when he gets out of Purgatory. He doesn't look like he has any powers there. Maybe they'll resurface when he gets out...he has to get out!
ReplyDeleteYikes- it has crossed my mind but I pushed it away because...yikes. I think I'd cry if he said Cas was dead. I've grown attached and it's bad enough Bobby's gone. :(
ReplyDeleteI'd really prefer Cas becoming human over that (especially since he's already died 3 times). Gee writers, don't have to kill everyone off- there are other ways of seeing them less or on a less-powered scale.
I think no matter how evil someone is, there's going to be a fan that likes them. lol
ReplyDeleteThe only evil villain on the show I hated period for what he/she was was....was....um...hm probably Zachariah. Every other villain was just annoying or boring or I loved to hate them, like Alastair #2.
I found Alastair #1 great, but yeah #2 was super creepy. If I met that guy it an alley I'd scream - sorry Chris. lol
ReplyDeleteI think he was the best of the scary demons. Loved to hate him. lol
ReplyDeleteYes, Zachariah was a DICK, using Deans words here. ;) Kurt Fuller was excellent in this role and was always a character I did not trust or like, but enjoyed him on the show. Does that make any sense at all???
ReplyDeleteI hope he does still have powers.
ReplyDeleteHe did disappear in Purgatory, maybe it sapped his powers quickly after that?
Agreed, he has to get out!
Yeah, how many times are they going to kill Cas anyways?
ReplyDeleteI have grown very attached to Cas, mostly because of his friendship with Dean.
If he is stuck in Purgatory, I hope we see a bit of what he's going through there, not just focus on the boys for 20 episodes, then have him return in episode 21 or something with little explaination.
That could be a good outcome. I think that maybe there isn't a side effect but they close the gates in season 10.
ReplyDeleteDefinetely. I'm thinking that if there was a Word of God about Purgatory, and now one about Hell, there must be one about Heaven.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. No more demons. Vampires could control the earth (?).
ReplyDeleteWOW, I gotta say, I agree. This had more punch then seasons ... well, for a LONG time! HELL FRIGGING YEAH! Er.. Hell no? Haha. Looking /forward/ to this!
ReplyDeleteOh man, this seasons looking GOOD. More Crowley, and he's actually a strong figure-head it looks like! Some non-angsty brother on brother action, where they're smiling and looking /confident/ instead of beat down, some heart-clinching images of Cas, and the beautiful undertones of ROCK.
ReplyDeleteLong Live the new Show Runner!
My favorite seasons were.. everything before 6! This definitely has a
ReplyDeleteseason 2/3 vibe to me! I loved seasons 4 and 5, but what I love about
this promo is that it seems to REALLY get back to the roots of
Supernatural WHILE KEEPING THE NEWER ELEMENTS!!
I love carver.. I love carver..
I don't think I've ever been this excited for a Supernatural season! :D
ReplyDeleteA few clips doth not a season make, but I hope it does live up to expectations.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that the hug disappointed me a lot.
There was none of the emotion or pathos of the previous ones. It just looked like two guys giving each other a pat on the back and not a reunion of two brothers after a year of not knowing where the other was, or even if he was still alive.
Even the hug with soulless Sam in Exile On Main Street was more intense.
Is there anything you like from what we've heard about season 8 so far?
ReplyDeleteThomas will have nothing to do with any Sam light episodes this season and it certainly isnt a excuse or reason for them .Will people be unhappy of course .Esp after how poor Sam's story was told last season and the instant fix and how when it is Sam's story Dean is heavily involved and ends up getting more pov than Sam does and we dont get Dean light episodes . The Purgatory sl excludes Sam therefore it is easy to write episodes where they focus on Dean's purgatory and Sam is a light presence.
ReplyDeleteFor this reason the show will never be balanced What I am hoping for is that when they do focus on Sam's story it is taken has seriously and given the same focus.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen season seven yet, still waiting for the dvd which doesn't come out here until November but I obviously have followed all the posts, and more or less know the story but until one actually sees the eps one can't get a true idea of it all.
ReplyDeleteIt's a sad day when the guest stars get more attention than the co-star and if we want to go deeper, Jared is the first star billed in the show credits.
X
For me they should have as much Sam presence as Dean presence, otherwise the show is completely out of balance.
X
In my opinion, Sam should have been sent to Purgatory with his brother and had to fight his way out side by side with him, but that is not the case unless the whole "perception" thing means that everything we think is going on isn't.
X
As for Jared having a child; to think that that could have any influence on his screen time is a mistake.
He isn't the only actor to have had a baby and it could never influence his job in any way.
If it had been Jensen to have had the baby instead of Jared would that have meant that Dean would never have been on-screen because he had to stay home with the baby? I think not.
Until I'm proven wrong, it seems that poor Sam has been put in a corner for reasons known only to the writers.
the new amazing quote ".closing devil gate forever, that could be .IMPORTANT "
ReplyDeletethis sounds way bettter...at least if he is going to get stuck in purgetory i hope they part ways as friends!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good promo. It's nice to see something fresh and I think I'm going to like having Kevin around.
ReplyDeleteI like the story being about the hell doors being sealed off.
Good catch.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting the feeling he's growing darker staying there. Pulling a "Walter White"?
ReplyDeleteGood idea. I've got one for Twilight Zone, Outer Limits and...Green Acres. Love those books.
ReplyDeleteThat does sound more plausible. Wonder if heaven would start t look like purgatory then? No one to "tend the gardens". Seedy angels exploiting the good ones. Looking more like Detroit than San Diego.
ReplyDeleteOK.
ReplyDeleteme too. but what can we do about not much. I just lost all hope right now with all the complains people have It just sucks.
ReplyDeleteFair enough, although it wasn't my intention to bring negativity down on the show but just to try and understand the seemingly changed dynamics that the spoilers appear to indicate.
ReplyDelete
