Thanks to andreas_ri/LJ for the title.

Episode 8.08 of Supernatural will be called "Dean Amuck"

  1. Dean's been amuck for six seasons now. What am I missing?

  2. Is that supposed to be a play on words? I don't get it.

  4. This one sounds promising. Anything with Sam or Dean's name in it, I get excited about.

  5. It sounds vaguely familiar, as in similar to a movie or tv title, but I can't place it. The only things that come up when I goggles it are movies called duck amuck and chuck amuck.

  6. It's possible I've never been more excited for an episode... I _may_ have just peed my pants a little....

As a title, it's terrible. As a premise, it's interesting.

  8. "Duck Amuck" is an old classic Looney Tunes short.

    ReplyDelete
  9. It's the name of a new recurring character.

  10. Shouldn't this be Dean Amok? Oh well, I don't see any murderous frenzies happening that aren't either monster deaths or Leviathans part 2 so I'm flummoxed by the title. The only things I know for sure is that it is appropriately short and it needs to be changed.

  11. Interesting title but I think this might get a title change before all is said and done

  12. Reference to a famous, classic Star Trek episode...

  13. So the benefit of being old is that I GOT the reference in the title to the classic Star Trek episode "Amok Time" in which Spock returns home due to the seven year mating cycle of Vulcans - during which they lose all control and become incredibly violent... they also have to return home and mate or die.. Spock "kills" Kirk in the episode...

  14. Ha! Well let's hope the story line is vastly different. I'm not eager for a Dean must mate or die episode. It's too much like the mate and die episode Slice Girls.

  15. Yeah this one has title change written all over it. I'm kind of surprised we haven't title changes for the first set yet. They should be coming any day now since we're less than a month from the season 8 premiere. Thanks goodness.

  16. hmmm... I'd say its not very user friendly but it does give us at least a little hint of what the episode may be about?

One can assume based on spoilers and filming schedules that the first half of the season is very Dean heavy and centric so far, he will be spending a lot of time with his new 'buddy' Benny and there are a lot of Purgatory flashbacks. Sam and Dean are apart quite a bit and they are dealing with what Dean does when not with Sam more than Sam when he isn't with Dean.

Honestly I'm waiting for Dean to get himself into trouble with his dealings with Benny and his lying to Sam to come back and bite him in the ass. I'm interested to find out how Sam will deal with the situation?

  17. That's the very last thing I want to have happen. We've already been there done that twice and Cas still needs to get his shot at redemption from the last time we went there. Time for a fresh story line in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I thought the same thing so I looked it up - both spellings are correct.

    ReplyDelete
  19. However they have Sam deal with it I just hope they stay away from season 4 and any boo hoo comments or a unsympathetic Sam. My regret is that I only wished they had given Sam's cage sl half the focus they seem determind to give Dean's purgatory .A hand rub and Time for a Wedding look flimsy standing beside it..

  20. Although I'm not particularly interested it the titles as such but far more in the quality of the stories, in my opinion whoever decides the titles has lost their way a little, as
they seem to be going for the weirdest ones around.
However , I'll go with the thought that the stranger the title the better the episode. Fingers crossed. :)

  21. The "mate or die" part of the story was a VERY minor part of what was going on - a LOT more about Spock's psyche, relationship with Kirk vs his own people etc - a LOT of good stuff they could be riffing on...

    ReplyDelete
  22. What if the titles stay as they are?

    ReplyDelete
  23. It's possible but there have always been title changes over hellatus before and some of these just aren't good. The first title is particularly lame for a season premiere. Still the title is the last thing of importance to me as long as the episode is engaging the title came be as sucky as they want.

  24. Of the two theories, I think it's more likely a reference to the Loony Toons short "Duck Amuck" than the Star Trek episode "Amok Time" (because of the spelling and placement of "Dean"). So I looked up the short on Wikipedia, and:

"It stars Daffy Duck, who is tormented by a seemingly sadistic, initially unseen animator, who constantly changes Daffy's locations, clothing, voice, physical appearance and even shape. Pandemonium reigns throughout the cartoon as Daffy attempts to steer the action back to some kind of normality, only for the animator to either ignore him or, more frequently, to over-literally interpret his increasingly frantic demands."

    Meta-episode?

  25. The fear is that it'll go the way of the Amy storyline in season 7. Basically it would be better for Sam to either remain completely ignorant of the situation or for him to not react to it at all. If he turns to Dean and says 'you had your reasons for not telling me, lets move on' then I think that would satisfy most fans in that Sam wont be the one getting a tongue lashing when he wasn't the one who has done something wrong. I just think that in order to save Sam any bashing he should just let Dean get on with his own thing while he gets on with his.

If the boys are meant to be more grown up and obviously lying to each other is now acceptable and considered grown up behaviour then it needs to be perceived and portrayed as such. Dean cant feel bad about it and Sam cant be angry about it. It just has to be accepted that they have separate lives and don't have to tell each other everything by each other or by the audience.
Interestingly enough I wonder how Dean being mad at Sam for not searching for him and giving up hunting for normal should be perceived?

Sam IMO needs to concentrate on the immediate hunting obviously, finding Kevin and the power source but more importantly he needs to concentrate on himself. His relationship with Amelia and what he wants from life. If Dean wants to tell him anything or wants his help with anything then Dean can come to him but it would be better for Sam if stayed out of it.

  26. maybe Dean is spending another episode with Benny doing something that could be perceived as dodgy? The murderous frenzy would make sense if Dean is with Benny especially if Benny has an agenda of his own and is using Dean to help with the dirty work? I agree if there is a murderous killing spree it'll be monsters definitely not humans and I really don't think we'll see or hear of the Leviathans again.

I'm starting to get the impression that Benny is going to be a bad influence on Dean?

I wonder if we'll have more Sam and Amelia flashbacks in this episode?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Benny's bad influence over Dean?

    ReplyDelete
  28. interesting. Perhaps this could be something to do with Dean's relationship with Benny? How its affecting his other relationships and behaviour?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Except it was more likely a reference to the old Looney Tunes short "Duck Amuck".

    ReplyDelete
  30. Much as I would like to be excited by the various scenarios that are being proposed, i just can't.

If the snippets we're hearing turn out to be true, then the show is going down a road that just doesn't appeal to me; separate lives, lying to each other, Sam with Amelia and Dean with Benny. Muh.

Then I can't really understand why being "more mature" has to mean that the brothers can't continue their work of hunting together.
It's a bit like saying that in NCIS for example, Jethro, DiNozzo and all the others can no longer work together because they've been together too long so they have to separate.

I can't see why the brothers just can't keep fighting evil together and stil have thrilling adventures each week.

  34. I believe the guys were filming episode 5 (or getting ready to) when I was in Vancouver at the convention. So, when I heard Jared hasn't been on set much (so far), I was just a tad disappointed (ok, I almost started crying). I would just like to hear one thing that makes me happy before the show starts. One episode that the boys are together and the primary characters. If Dean Amuck involves Sam trying to save Dean, calm Dean down, or something I will be happy. If it is a Benny / Dean exploration story I will continue to wait.and keep my fingers crossed.

  35. Sounds strange, but everything that is Dean-centric is perfect for me. So yay. Hope for more Dean, Cas and Benny :)
