MRS. TRAN JOINS SAM AND DEAN ON THE ROAD — Kevin (guest star Osric Chau) talks Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) into checking in on his mother (guest star Lauren Tom). When they arrive, they see that Crowley (guest star Mark Sheppard) has surrounded her with demons so they rescue her and take her along on their quest to find the tablet. However, they soon discover Kevin wasn’t kidding when he said his mother was a strong-willed woman after she tries to take on Crowley. John Showalter directed the episode written by Andrew Dabb & Daniel Loflin (#803).

ReplyDeleteSo Kevin's mom is the tiger mommy. XD
ReplyDeleteI think they were too apathetic to start. o.o
ReplyDeleteI thought "What's Up Tiger Mommy?" was a terrible title from the start but this synopsis has me changing my mind about the episode. Lauren Tom can be very funny and this plot, although kind of ridiculous, could potentially be very amusing.
ReplyDeleteYeah with the characters being out of character at times (mostly Dean and Sam- I thought they did good with Bobby, which is strange to do better writing a re-occuring and not the main ones Me: ????)
ReplyDeleteNow the title makes more sense. I hope that Lauren's character manages to be funny and likable with her strong willedness.
ReplyDeleteA whole episode about Kevin's mom right after the premiere which seems to be really Kevin-heavy. I really like the guy but this is starting to be a little too much for me, sorry.
ReplyDeleteToo much info about the episode in just a PR description. Leave some surprises this year CW. Remember when they spoiled the Alpha Vamp's return last season?
ReplyDeleteEllen was a strong-willed woman too but she and poor Jo were awarded a terrible death albeit a heroic one.
ReplyDeleteI'm certainly not hoping that Kevin and his mom go the same way but maybe they could retire to a nice condo in the Bahamas or something.
This looks like another of the series, "the Winchesters need someone else to do their fighting and their jobs for them as they're no longer capable themselves."
Where's my team of bad-ass capable brothers?
Maybe one day the writers will give them back to me

The only two things that I have liked so far about season eight spoilers have been the return of the Impala and the episode title released yesterday "Don't Stop Believing"

I am being very negative, I know, but I so do want the season to prove me wrong, and I'll be extra happy to put on my sack-cloth and ashes and do penance if I'm wrong.
Ha! I was about to do that.
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, they suck. I'm sorry that the first episode we see Cas in was written by them. Speaking of which, some news about Cas would be nice...

ReplyDeleteelse to do their fighting and their jobs for them as they're no longer
capable themselves."
That's not how I interpreted it at all. I envision something more along the lines of "Kevin nagged us into saving his mom and now the demonstrative pain in the ass won't leave us alone."
It could be that you have interpreted it in the correct way and I'm completely wrong, but I'm just weary of the Winchesters having to be teamed up with others.
ReplyDeleteI understand that the guest stars have to have their own little story-line but for me it would have been far more exciting for Crowley to have kidnapped one of the brothers, and for him to taunt him instead of Kevin's mom.
In the end even if Crowley killed her, would we really care? But if he threatens one of the brothers that makes it far more personal and dramatic, at least for me.
*sigh* I so don't care about Kevins mom, really.
ReplyDeleteI want to see Sam and Dean going against Crowley, not some second rate guest cast.
But maybe we get to see some good decent Winchester fighting and dialog in this episode, until it aires, everything is possible.
Funny whenever I get my hopes up for the new season, to finally see some more good old Winchester bantering and fighting against monsters, it all becomes more and more about guest cast I so don't care about.
Gah.
we are supposed to see him in flashbacks in this epi but yeah, it would be nice to hear some news about how he's going to be mentioned and everything...
ReplyDeleteI really like this new season! So many great stuff! Sounds like Kevin has pretty cool mom! I miss the boys! Season 8, come here already!
ReplyDeleteI still dont like the title, haha! But the release sounds exciting!
ReplyDeleteAnother Dabb & Loflin creation? Blech! But Mark Sheppard will no doubt be my guiding light in the inevitable s*** storm they have written. I wish they would stop writing and just be producers. They always manage to write the boys out of character, drives me nuts. Fingers crossed they have actually watched an episode of SPN now.
ReplyDeleteAre you talking the usual confusion in the first episode when they don't film in order? When certain people thought that this title was the new title for the 8x03 Heartache (cause they filmed this one third)?
ReplyDeleteDunno, I've quite liked some of the Dabb-Loflin contributions to SPN such as "Yellow Fever", "Sam, Interrupted," "Dark Side of the Moon," "Frontierland," "Hammer of the Gods,", "Jump the Shark." They had a couple in the first half of Season 6 that weren't stellar, but the first half of season 6 was difficult for everyone, I think having to figure out how to handle Souless Sam. So, I'm looking forward to this. And although I don't really care one way or the other about titles of episodes, I do enjoy the fun titles like this one. And obviously for Kevin's mom to be a player in ep 8.02, there must be more to her than just being 'Kevin's mom'. Otherwise, why would Crowley give a crap about her?
ReplyDeleteI don't know, they've been pretty tight lipped about some stuff. Plus they probably figure people who don't want spoilers won't read.
ReplyDeleteI'm a person who wants a detailed summary before the episode. lol
I've read the whole plot of movies online after they get into theaters and I still get excited to see it on screen. XD
Sorta. I just didn't think we'd get something a little silly so soon. At least the summary makes it seem funny. Maybe it'll be serious besides Tiger Mommy.
ReplyDeleteI agree with most of what you said, although I think their first two eps from season 6 were in the "good category" - Weekend at Bobby's and Family Matters (a good old-fashioned alpha vamp hunt with the Cambells). And I also loved Unforgiven in season 6. The two I weren't too crazy about were from season 7 - The Girl Next Door and Time for a Wedding. But I blame those two episodes partly on bad judgment from people above them (the bungled Amy arc, which I'm blaming Sera for, and the idea to have Becky come back and kidnap Sam, which Adam Glass took credit for). I also found Pluckys to be one the few enjoyable episodes of season 7. They don't shy away from writing the characters with negative attributes, but I think that's OK sometimes. I don't need Sam and Dean to be perfect.
