- Great acting paired with a good adaptation of good source material. We got just enough insight into the overall premise of the series and enough of a look at the main characters and their motivations without being too obvious or cliche. - Nice to see seemingly major players killed maimed and/or disfigured in the pilot alone. It keeps the realism at a level that is necessary for an historic drama. - Production value wise it did feel a little cheap at times, but they hid the budget challenges fairly well. - So very odd to see Carlo Rota with hair! XD
I had high expectations and some concerns going in since Pillars of the Earth was so brilliant, but this premiere laid any concerns I had to rest. The cast may not be as recognizable or as charismatic as Pillars, but they all gave good (or better) performances.
Looking forward to the next episode!
Also I will be uploading some UHQ production stills and other promo photos very soon.
No, you do not need to have seen Pillars first. World Without end is only a sequel in that it takes place in the same fictional town of Kingsbridge where Pillars took place. It takes almost 200 years after Pillars, Pillars took place during "The Anarchy" in the middle part of the 12th century and World Without End starts in the 14th century at the start of the outbreak of the Black Death and the Hundred Years War.
Thank you very much.:-) That's good news for me. For some reason this miniseries appeals to me much more than Pillars, so I'm glad I can watch it first without a problem.;-)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
