Merlin - Series 5 - Queen Mab Casting News

Sep 6, 2012

Actress/writer Kelly Wenham has been cast as Queen Mab according to her online CV. Her previous credits include Waterloo Road, Dead Set, Holby City and Steel River Blues.

As for Mab, she is probably most famous from the speech Mercutio gives in Romeo and Juliet as the fairy who drives her chariot into the brains of sleeping people to compel them to experience dreams of wish-fulfillment. She has made many appearances in various forms throughout folklore since; including the 1998 mini-series Merlin where she was the evil and twisted sister of The Lady in the Lake who creates Merlin, who has no father, to be the saviour of Paganism over Christianity.

Considering she looks a lot like Laura Donnelly who played Freya (and who is busy on another filming project at present), I wouldn't be surprised if is much like her previous Merlin persona. She may even be one of the hooded character we see with Morgana in the cave in the trailer, see here.

  1. I love Queen Mab, Mercutio's speech about her is probably one of my favourite Shakespeare monologues! So intrigued to how she comes to Camelot, should be good :D

  2. I think she's the one who tortured and kept Morgana prisnor for two years.

  3. Funny I was just watching the old miniseries about Merlin (with Sam Neill) and Queen Mab is one of the main characters. It'll be interesting to see what her role in 'our' Merlin is.
