Grimm - Season 2 - Bitsie Tulloch Interview

Thanks to maplewhite1912 for the heads up.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: There is lots to get to, but first, I have to say, I love Bud the beaver man.

BITSIE TULLOCH: I love him! His name is Danny Bruno, and he’s a Portland-based actor. He gets so much love from me. Almost any time I do interviews I talk about him because I just love his story. He was just cast in a small role in one episode, and he killed it. He was so lovable and funny. And I think fans really responded to the idea that there are some Wesen — Silas’ characters among them — who are inherently good. They’re not all evil. And the beavers are meek, sweet Wesen and they get bullied a lot. I just love that Danny Bruno has had so much to do.

And he had an important scene in this episode. He put the word “Grimm” into Juliette’s lexicon. What is she going to do with that?

Juliette’s always had her own detective mystery to solve. In season 1, it was, “What’s going on with my boyfriend? What’s he going through that he’s not telling me?” Now in season 2, it’s “Who is this person? What’s a grimm?” And she’s bright — it’s not something she’s going to drop.

Solo missions are fun, but do you hope she’s brought into the fold this season? Like Hank?

Yeah. I think so. There was an episode last season where she ended up finding the body. (Ed note: episode 1.21, “Big Feet.”) She was at the scene of the crime before Nick, and I liked that. The fans have been calling us the Scooby Gang for a while, and I really had a lot of fun being more involved. And I think there’s a reason [the character] is a veterinarian; she can possibly be of help with some of the creatures.

  1. I really her as an actress and I like Juliette. It seems this character is not universally liked, but that's because she hasn't been in on Nick's secret, which has made her kind of useless. But she is slowly finding out, and I think Juliette has a very interesting storyline just ahead. She might find out through other sources just what Nick is and does. Then she might fall in love with him all over again. Or she'll fall in love with Renard and dump Nick, and we'll have a Renard/Juliette relationship. My hope is she'll remember, fall back in love with Nick, and join the Scooby gang.

  2. Loving the Scooby gang! Yep,i would also like to see Juliette to fall in love with Nick all over again, but i have a feeling its not going to be that easy, not this season anyway.I hope i'm wrong!

  3. I think we'll enjoy watching Juliette's investigation into Nick's background. She was very smart to invite Bud over. Maybe she'll find Adalind.

I'm worried because in the next episode she asks Nick if he wants her to leave.

    Gosh I love this show.

  4. The Scooby Gang makes me feel so nostalgic :') It will be a long and dark path before the reunion between Nick and Juliette, it seems.

  5. I am so glad that Grimm is not making Juliette's memory loss just about relationship angst but giving it (and her) a solo mystery angle. The plot is much more satisfying to watch that way.

  6. I like the actress and the character, I liked reading this interview. Her last answer totally sounds like they are doing Juliet/Captain, which I am not sure how I feel about, but I think it will make for interesting storylines!

  7. I think you touched on my problem with the character of Juliette. To this point she's been so far on the outside that she has seemed kind of useless.

This show began to feel more and more like an ensemble show as Monroe and Nick began working together. As Hank and Rosalie came into the fold that feeling increased. For me, as of the end of season one the show has felt like 'this really cool ensemble of characters is involved in cool stories and a clueless character wandering around on the doing something unrelated to the interesting stuff.' and that just doesn't make Juliette important or compelling. Her best eps, for me, were when she was getting information on what happened to Nick's parents. She was involved in the main story and moving it forward and i was interested.

I sincerely hope that this quest of hers continues to increase her import to the fabric of the show. I will admit that her trying to discover why Nick is the only thing she doesn't remember is has me much more interested in her story than 90% of what she did last season.

  8. I'm hoping she remembers getting scratched by Adalind's cat, and then starting a quest to find out more about Adalind.

  9. Great interview!

I really didn't like Juliette's character in the beginning of season one and tptb slowly began to give her more substance as the season came to a close. Now it is just amazing how well her character fits in this year and I think most of it is from this side story between Nick, Juliette and Capt. Renard. That scene between Juliette and Bud was pretty good and kudos to that local actor who made a simple character into so much more!

The writing on this show has really improved since season one and I'm glad I stuck with it for it's new season. Of course, my favorite character will always be Monroe and his amazing quirkiness that adds so much to this strange and bizarre show!
