The 2012 STV Favourite TV Series Competition - Day 34 - Semi Final 2 - NCIS vs. Castle

Aug 18, 2012

Hey folks,

Yesterday was an even bigger day for the competition, with the poll earning over 600 more votes than when Once Upon A Time beat Supernatural in the Quarter Finals. Game of Thrones came so, so close to final victory, but in the end Once Upon A Time reached the final on its first opportunity with a win of 50.48%. That's just under 50 votes for anyone interested.

Today will decide whether NCIS or Castle will join Once Upon a Time in the final, and with both police procedurals having large and passionate fan bases, this should make for one hell of a battle.

Let it commence!

If you want to see the draw for the rest of the competition, and see which show will take on which other show then head HERE for a look.

  1. I'm not a big fan of either tbh, but i went for NCIS as I've enjoyed the couple of episodes I've watched more than Castle.

  2. two great one but ncis for me

  3. Castle. I am a NCIS fan, but I'll always love Castle so much more than NCIS.

  4. Woohoo OUAT made it!

Once again, Sophie's Choice for me and once again, I might have to go with the show I've been watching longer (though neither for very long), NCIS. Still, I won't care who wins as the final will still be Sophie's Choice for me :P

  5. Lately that seems to be me: I'm more excited to see and read stuff on Castle than stuff on NCIS. But like I said, superiority wins out for my pick :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. So so so sad to see Game of Thrones loose.

I voted for Castle today. Hope it will beat OUAT tomorrow.

  7. I love both NCIS and Castle,i have to think about this for awhile. It should go to NCIS,i have been watching it before it even became the spinoff, and was introduced on JAG as a 2 parter...

While thinking it over i will go and tweet to BOTH sides,Castle & NCIS Fans!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Never really watched NCIS, and I really like Castle, so I voted Castle.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Watched maybe one season of NCIS. Great show, but I had to go with Castle. I love that show.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Although I generally don't watch cop shows, I watch Castle bcuz of Cap'n Tightpants.

The crime of the week aspect is often amusingly presented - I do appreciate the lack of child murders and other stomach-churning "Special Victim" crap - but honestly, if it wasn't for Nathan Fillion, my procedural show count would be zero.
    So... Castle it is.

    ReplyDelete
  11. With Fringe and Game Of Thrones as my favorites already out, here is hoping that at least Castle can win this competition.

    ReplyDelete
  12. as much as i love NCIS, has to be Castle today! :DDD

    ReplyDelete
  13. castle for the competition now SPN is gone

    ReplyDelete
  14. The competition is good this year. Fandoms all stressed out people B******. lol
I have no favs now that Fringe, SPN and Menatalist is gone, so I will just sit back in hope for another tight race.

  15. Castle - good characters and I can't stand NCIS.

Castle, all the way. Nathan Filliion and Stana Katic are a terrific team.

  17. Like both shows, but have to go with Castle - because of ALWAYS. They actually put Castle & Beckett together in a way that feels "organic" and not dragged out to total ridiculousness. Hopefully now other TV shows will realize that the "Moonlighting curse" was a bunch of BS! So Castle - for great & honest storytelling!

  18. This is the most difficult choice of the entire competition for me. I've watched both shows since the beginning. Last year I probably would have said "Definately NCIS". I've been addicted to that show since the beginning and when I wasn't at home when a new episode aired, I was quite pissed. I'm still exited about NCIS and when the DVD comes out in september, I'll be one of the first to buy it. BUT, this year a huge part of my heart is taken by Castle. I've never ever been so exited to see a season finale than with Castle this year. Every time a spoiler appears, I'm more thrilled than when I see NCIS spoilers. And I can't wait 'till sept. 24! Voting for Castle would feel a bit unfaithful towards the show that ruled my television for such a long time. On the other hand, voting for NCIS wouldn't feel right either... I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to sit this one out. Both shows may win this competition, though I think Castle has a better chance to beat OUAT.

  19. Castle is my fav. Show rn.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I enjoy both shows but I have to go with Castle!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Isn't it the 25th?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm wishy-washy on Castle, but I voted for that as I don't care for NCIS at all.

    ReplyDelete
  23. they could have at least used a current picture of the NCIS cast - Kate has been gone for seven years.

    ReplyDelete
  24. NCIS all day. Cannot stand Castle.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I like them both, but I'm going with NCIS. Let's say it's from sentimental reasons;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hell yeah, I don't think I'd have given the series a second look if it wasn' for that chemistry. I got addicted right after the pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I know right, I was hoping for GoT too win :(

    ReplyDelete
  28. In the Castle photo, one character is no longer part of the cast, one has never been a regular and only appeared in three episodes and another has only appeared in the pilot. In addition there are three characters who are regulars, two of which have been regulars since the pilot, that are not in the photo. So it's not only the NCIS picture. I guess they just chose the first cast picture of the show.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I will say that the NCIS picture that is posted is really, really old......Sasha left the series after two years. So a more current group picture of the NCIS cast would be nice. Oh, and NCIS is my No. 1 show so it gets the win.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I know, right?? I'm like, "Who is that guy on the end??" And that's not even Molly Quinn, right?? That cast photo must have been EARLY because Seamus Dever was actually in the pilot but was added on later...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Castle. Even though they've strayed sometimes from the premise that drew me, that Castle approached cases as if they were stories which was so adorably meta and a nice twist from the standard, Nathan Fillion is so watchable and charming that I still watch.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm pretty sure that is Molly Quinn, though. But yeah, I know, throughout the competition every time Castle was in a poll there was someone asking who the guy in the right was.

    ReplyDelete
  33. So it's going to be Castle vs. Once Upon a Time. I never would have predicted this outcome.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Voted Castle, if Castle win then two of my top five favourite shows will be in the finale awesome sauce!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Looks like I'm out this competition....

    ReplyDelete
  36. Castle, i have become the biggest fangirl this past year

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't watch either, but from the few episodes I have seen I like Castle where NCIS is the same as all the other mundane CSI shows.

So going with that, I'm voting for Castle to win it all because I still can't believe Game of Thrones lost to OUAT.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wow this is almost painful,it hasn't moved since this morning! Where is everyone?

    ReplyDelete
  39. easy vote for Castle today...

    ReplyDelete
  40. Damn it, this is rude. I went with NCIS!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Castle!!! And in the next round it will stop OUAT!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hahaha! I find that hilarious. And I actually liked Kate a lot. I haven't watched more than a handful of shows of NCIS (original), but of the ones I watched, I remember thinking I liked Kate.

    ReplyDelete
  43. That is Molly Quinn. She just looks young.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Who is the guy in the right in the castle picture?

    ReplyDelete
  45. We shall see...we shall see. Mwahhahahahahahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  46. I don't watch either, which causes me to wonder what either of them are doing in a semi-final. Just sayin'.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yeah, but that is one super old photo.

    ReplyDelete
  48. start_wearing_purpleAugust 18, 2012 at 12:34 AM

True... Was the ex-wife ever supposed to star in the show? Was she cut after the pilot?

    ReplyDelete
  49. They are in the semi final because NCIS is the number 1 show on TV in the US, and Castle is somewhere up there too. Just because you don't watch them, doesn't mean they aren't popular.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Guessing so, also really sucks they also don't have ryan in this one. Can we get an updated cast-photo pretty please with some cheeries on top?

    ReplyDelete
  51. He was casted first, and I believe only briefly appears in the pilot. They replaced him right after. So basically this was a really really early cast-photo. Its silly it's still being used for Castle on here grrr :x

    ReplyDelete
  52. As much as I love Gibbs, have to go with Castle/Beckett.

    ReplyDelete
  53. on the castle picture who is the guy right at the end because that is not Ryan

    ReplyDelete
  54. And its still exactly the same! I don't understand how NCIS did so well the other day and now this? I went to NCIS fan clubs and posted,i posted on GG,i tweeted most of the day,btw i also did the same for Castle,i wanted to have a fair competition so no one could say otherwise like a few hear have been suggesting...

    ReplyDelete
  55. You and me both,wow!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Both NCIS and Castle are old, will need to update them!

    ReplyDelete
  57. He was there before Ryan but only very briefly,Ryan replaced him i think before the pilot was even finished. There are a few stories about that so either during the pilot or right after.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I never expected once to do so well. But I am happy to see it make it this far.
Today I'm voting for NCIS as it is the only one f the two that I have watched

    ReplyDelete
  59. NCIS did so well previously because it had very little competition. It was in by far the weakest bracket. Getting this far is a tremendous accomplishment for NCIS. It may be the biggest drama on TV but it has a much smaller online fandom.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Like them both. Voting for NCIS this round. Will vote for Castle next round.

    ReplyDelete
  61. if the final poll is castle against once upon a time your vote go too.....?????????.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I m agree 10000 percent really .//..S.U.C.K.S.///

    ReplyDelete
  63. UUUUHHH,....UUHHHH...SO ROMANTIC

    ReplyDelete
  64. Castle with absolutely no hesitation. I dropped OUaT halfway through the season. Couldn't take one more episode of Emma OR Henry much less Emma AND Henry.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I am surprised too, but maybe @Dahne1:disqus is right, NCIS did have a pretty easy bracket.

    ReplyDelete
  66. start_wearing_purpleAugust 18, 2012 at 5:08 AM

Wow. Didn't even realize Ryan wasn't there.

Ryan's actually another example of why I love this show. Typically you have an Irish cop in a show and he's a hard drinking, slightly corrupt detective with a bit of a violent streak. Ryan's a sweet guy who stands in as the loyal comic relief. He helps add to a very colorful cast.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think it's safe to say NCIS is being slaughtered by Castle. Haven't watched either of them but I'd say Castle is the one I'm most interested in watching.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Quick update to say what is gonna happen next.

Saturday 18th = Third Place Playoff
    Sunday 19th - Monday 20th = The Final

Much like last year we're gonna do a two day final. It's also so we can get the final over a weekday as more people visit the website Monday - Friday and we want to get as many people voting as possible. :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. I know I've tried not to reveal much about the number of votes in each poll (yet) but I can say that NCIS is 200 votes short of the amount it got when it beat The Mentalist. That's not a huge amount when you consider some of those may have been people who chose Castle over it last time.

I think in general NCIS has probably slightly underperformed today, but Castle has taken it up a notch!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Most of the country doesn't have premium cable, so we still appreciate shows done well under normal network circumstances.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'm not sure if i expected it to be a closer race because it is the semi final,or because so many fans voted for NCIS before.I thought it would have been a tighter race than what it turned out to be.I expected Castle to win it,but not like this,oh well!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I have to say i was surprised NCIS even made it to the semi finals,so yes it is an great accomplishment, maybe that is why i expected a larger turn out for it?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Castle Fans are more organized and more intense!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Knew something was the 25th,lol.... Thanks! :)

    ReplyDelete
  75. Castle is bound to win us Casketters are friggen hardcore we stand by our show and I can guarantee we will kick ass and win it

    ReplyDelete
  76. I sooooo agree with you about the Ryan character!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yeah, that is annoying, but the NCIS picture is also very old.

    ReplyDelete
  78. No idea, but I alwyas found it pretty strange. I know that some shows change a lot after the pilot is shot and promo material is made, but I really can't understand where the character of Gina would have fit. Glad she's out though, because Gina was never appealing to me (not in a shipper kind of way). On the other hand I would love to see more of Alexy's mom. She was good fun.

    ReplyDelete
  79. But i didn't realize just how many OUaT fans there are,and they proved it the other day. They didn't know about it until 3 hours before hand and they were able to pull it off so don't underestimate them. And in these kinds of polls don't guarantee a win you never know!

And i didn't say that because i favor them,.

    ReplyDelete
  80. No it didn't defeat OUaT,they play whoever wins this round.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Supernatural 8 seasons in beaten by that fluff?! Recount!
