Last years runner-up has been defeated, beaten at the post by a late Game of Thrones resurgence. It was a huge turnout today, and one which saw the HBO epic scrape past Fringe by the slenderest of margins. It was exciting, close and tense, but a front runner for the title has fallen. Game of Thrones has only one step away from reaching the final
Today sees our second Quarter Final battle, and it's perhaps the segment of the draw which is most unknown. Both The Mentalist and NCIS were not pre-competition favourites, but have emerged victorious from a 16 show section that included The Walking Dead, Chuck, Homeland, Nikita, The Wire and Prison Break amongst others. They can not be under appreciated. They have as good a chance as any to win this yet.

ReplyDeleteGah! Sophie's Choice for me. I love both shows! But I decided to go with The Mentalist since I've been a fan longer than I've been an NCIS fan. Seniority always seems to take precedence.

We just finished voting on the banner,so its not going to happen.You can always make your own banner and use it on your computer. NCIS isn't in the banner,nether is GOT and they are in the comp.They can't please everyone,or put all the shows that are posted on this site.

ReplyDeleteBut the key word is that NCIS, while enjoyable and charming IS just a cop procedural. The crimes are unconnected, there are no thematical story arcs. Just like all other cop procedural shows its mostly self-contained.
ReplyDeleteMentalist is a series of cases connected by philosophical ideas of morality, revenge, retribution, guilt, pain and grief.At the same time Mentalist does not fear to create a morally-blind,
revenge-driven, almost completely sociopathic lead character, who still
manages to be very likeable, interesting and complex.
Every case that happens affects characters and what happens in the show, in that way, even though its still an episodic procedural, it has a certain serial thematic narrative through entire show as well as "twin-peaks-y" spice of an ongoing Red John serial narrative.
These points alone, not even talking about the brilliant characterization of the lead character or chilling intense atmosphere, already make Mentalist stand above usual cop procedurals.
