Jeremy Carver is certainly adept at the showrunner skill of using a lot of words to say nothing. He has also mastered using different words in different interviews to say the exact same thing - nothing.
"IGN: Lastly, I’ve got to try… Jim [Beaver] was at Comic-Con promoting the show, so is it safe to assume... Carver: Love him! No answer." What a tease ;)
Why would he want to give anything away. He wants us to watch the show, not read about it. I am looking forward to the season. I also loved seasons 6 and 7 too. Looking forward to how Jeremy brings Dean back and everything that comes with all things Winchester.
Good interview, however, I think it's highly inappropriate to say that "no one is more of a fan of Dean and Cas than [he is]." He should not be taking sides in the fandom. This looks like he is. He is stepping on toes for the people who are concerned about characters who aren't Dean and Castiel. Plus, I'm little upset by the fact that fans burned Sera Gamble at the stake for possibly having a favorite, but as far as I know she never said anything this blunt for being a fan of a character. But for Jeremy Carver I've seen nothing but praise for him. Is it because he's a guy or is it because it isn't Sam? Either way, I don't think it's appropriate for any showrunner to say they are the biggest fan of anything less than the entire show. They need to remain seen as balanced, because they aren't going to be the only one asked questions. What happens in the next interview for one of the actors? If Misha Collins gets bluntly asked if he hates Sera Gamble, then who is to say that Jensen and Misha won't get put on the spot about ditching Jared/Sam for the Dean and Cas show since Jeremy Carver is a huge fan of their characters while they are in front of Jared? I know that they'll handle it with grace, but they shouldn't have to. They shouldn't have to defend statements like this because it shouldn't happen. He's a leader, not a common fan. We have favorites, writers have stories.
Personally, I think sometimes the show really needs to realize how lucky they are by having the actors they do especially, Jared, because a lesser actor would be really upset by this statement. I just pray that at the next convention and on twitter that there are no (you-know-what) fans who think it's cute to ask Jared how does he feel working for a writer who doesn't like his character.
I really love Jeremy Carver's interviews... even though he's really good at saying nothing I get this vibe that he knows what he's doing and that he's got a good plan in place, which unfortunately was something I never got with Sera's interviews.
Plus, I really like how he seems to be setting up the season and I'm incredibly intrigued now about the perspective thing. I still think that it's simply OOC for Sam to not look for Dean if there isn't a good reason for it... I mean I love the whole maturity and character growth (about time!), but the whole Sam didn't look because he had no clue where to look so he just moved on that Jared described is just not totally sitting well with me because Sam's smarter than that, so I'm hoping there's more to it than that from what Jeremy's response seems to imply... I would prefer if Sam searched but the risk was too high so he had to give up on Dean or something like that, that would show a lot of character growth but still be in character.
Ridiculously interested in the purgatory story and how it's going to affect Dean an Cas the more I hear about it. Plus, Crowley... gaaaah, can't wait!!
I think this is something of an over-reaction. How many times has Carver said that Sam and Dean are the heart of the show? Many. Nowhere is it written that being a big fan of one character or one relationship precludes you from being a big fan of another. He didn't even say that Dean and Cas are his favourite, he just said he's a fan of them. There's no side-taking involved.
I don't see where all the anxiety over ditching Sam/Jared comes from. That's not even an option.
I also don't see why Jared would be upset by the statement. Carver never said anything to imply that he doesn't like Sam. So why would anyone ask Jared that, much less think it's cute? Because you know what? Destiel fans /don't/ actually hate Jared.
I think what's going to happen is that there will be reason for Sam to believe that Dean (and Cas) are dead. And after everything they've been through, he'll not only know better than to go messing with life and death again, but he'll also think that Dean would want him to move on.
Just a LITTLE bit of over-reacting here! Jeremy Carver never said anything about favoring one character over another. This is just the typical Sam fan reaction worrying that once again Sam's going to get overlooked, but nothing that has been said thus far about the upcomoing season actually reflects that. Far from it as a matter of fact. If anything, Carver has emphasized the part perception plays in this season so I think we really need tto take things one step at a time and realize that even if something seems to be one way, it may actually shake out another way. I think we have to be REALLY, REALLY wary of over-reacting this season, so ithis is as good a place to start putting that into practice as any.
Agreed on the different feeling from Carver than we got from Sera. I always had the feeling Sera was never quite sure of where she was going. Carver seems to be on more sure footing...either that or he's REALLY good at pulling the wool over our eyes! :D As for the whole perception thing....I'm really intrigued by that myself. We're all so used to making snap judgements based on what we see but it sounds like this year we're going to have to be patient and see how things shake out, which may be a difficult thing to put into practice. I know it will for me! But I'm looking forward to seeing how things shake out. And I think the first place we need to start waiting to see what happens is with the whole concept of Sam not looking for Dean. It didn't sit well with me initially either and I agree that it seems out of character, but I think what Carver is intimating is that there have been changes in Sam's character and so it might fit in with who he is now, so we have to give him some time to see just how it fits. At least I hope that's true! Bring on Season 8!!!
That's not what I'm concerned about. I don't doubt that Carver knows what the show is about. What I'm worried about is what this appears to be. A lot of fans thought Sera Gamble was a Sam fan and they hated her for it. I don't understand why. I didn't agree with a lot of things she did with the show and what is she said in interviews, but I don't think it's fair that she was judged for being a fan. I like a lot of things Jeremy Carver is appearing to do with the show and his interviews are interesting, but I don't agree with him making statements like this. I don't want to know if he's a fan or not.
I don't think Jared or Sam is going to be ditched, but fans asking those kinds of questions isn't a stretch. No where in my comment did I express anxiety over Sam/Sam being ditch. I know that won't happen. I expressed concerned over Jensen and Misha being asked an uncomfortable question about the new showrunner when it could have been avoided. I don't think the actors should have to defend the comments of showrunners or have to explain that they don't hate a writer for doing or saying something. Statements like these leaves openings for stupid questions. I personally think that the actors of Supernatural put up with a lot from the fans and I don't like it when the writers do things that they didn't have to do. This isn't about Destiel. No where in my comment did I say that Destiel fans hate Jared or Sam. Trust me, I know too many Destiel fans that I would trust to write this show more than the actual writers like Adam Glass. And I know without a doubt that Sam would be in good hands. Why would it be a Destiel fan asking the question? What about the disgruntled Sam fan who thinks they are showing their concern about how he feels about this? Should he really have to justify what Carver said just because it wasn't Sam? I don't think they should have to address the game of who is a fan of who. This is not about who Jeremy said. This is about what he. I would be just as disappointed if he said "No one is a bigger fan of Garth and Crowley than me." I don't think show-runners should say statement like this. It's not needed. The answer is perfect without it. I honestly think the showrunner should not be saying he is a fan of any characters because of the position of power he is in. This is purely about what I think is appropriate to say and not to say. This is in no way a statement about how I think Sam is going to be mistreated or Carver is going to throw Sam under a bus.
No where in my comment did I say that Sam is going to get overlooked. And I do take offense that you completely dismiss me and my opinion as irrational Sam fan when in fact no where in my comment did I ever say anything about the individual character paths. I read the interview. I understand Carver has emphasized perception. I'm not worried about the character of Sam. I'm not worried about where the show is headed. I'm worried that by showing preference through pointless statements like this one that the actors will have to deal the fall-out once again. Yes, I am shocked at the way Sera Gamble was treated versus the way Jeremy Carver is being treated. But that doesn't change the fact that I don't think it's right for a showrunner to state he is a fan of two characters. I would be writing the same thing if it was The Vampire Diaries showrunner stating she is the biggest fan of Klaus and Stefan. Because some fans will take statements like this as the character left out is disliked.
It doesn't add anything to the interview, so why say it? Just to please some fans or is it just a slip? I find Carver's interviews to be too careful for it to be just a slip which means other fans will take it for what it appears to be. I personally don't think it should happen. Not because it might indicate something on the show, but because there are too many people who will take this to heart and make banners and signatures. They will ask questions that are uncomfortable. And if it is something as simple as not adding the last line in an answer to an interview, then why wouldn't someone do that? I'm tired of reading interviews where the actors are asked more about what someone else said about this or that or if they hate someone than actual questions.
Still, if my comment can be dismissed as a typical Sam fan reaction, then why is it a stretch for me to be concerned over fans asking uncomfortable questions to the actors based on this comment. Because while I am a Sam and Cas, I'm not the biggest.
If fans are asking uncomfortable questions to the actors based on this comment then they also need to stop overreacting. As a writer myself, I can tell you that it is not at all unrealistic for a writer to favor one of his/her own characters. That doesn't necessarily mean she/he doesn't like the other characters nor will they treat them any less favorably, just sometimes you form more of a "bond" so to speak with one character. Again, nowhere has Jeremy Carver indicated that Sam will be treated with any less significance than Dean and I think anyone who reads this comment this way, much less makes enough of a point out of it to actually ask the actors about it, needs to take a step back and relax. You are assuming that the fans will have this kind of a reaction so I think you're overreacting just a tad as well. Just my personal take on it. Not meaning to "dismiss" anything, just asking that we not overreact, that's all.
Sorry, but you know very well what I meant by that. "Oh Carver likes Dean and Cas better so Sam is OBVIOUSLY going to get overlooked/not treated as well.". It happens all the time. The Dean fan reaction would be the same had Carver said he was a "fan" of Sam...assuming that meant Dean would be unfairly treated. People who are fans of one or the other character take the smallest little statement or even implied statement and read tons into it and that is exactly what is happening here. And before you blow a gasket on me...it's just as ridiculous a reaction coming from either side.
For what it's worth, I took the comment as just an attempt to reassure Cas fans who are still concerned there is a plan to kill off Cas.
As for the fan reactions, I don't think anyone can control that. Sera got far more crap than she deserved about her Sam comments. The people who work on this show are humans, and sometimes their preferences are going to slip through in interviews. But if they have an ounce of professionalism, those preferences won't affect their ability to write a balanced story about two brothers. Personally I'm not as bothered by extreme opinions by fans who I imagine to be about age 15. I have a much bigger problem when it appears those opinions are affecting the decisions made by the professionals running the show, and it appears that programming decisions are being made by a bunch of vocal 15 year olds.
I don't think it's unrealistic for a writer to have a preference, but Jeremy Carver isn't just a writer. I've written plenty of stories and essays to understand the attachment someone gets from something you created. However, he runs the show. This is more a PR disagreement than a writing one. I don't care if he has a favorite or if he is the biggest fan, but this isn't about the writing process. He is running a show with a known passionate fan base that has eight episodes with characters inspired by the fandom. Therefore, I do believe he should have kept a comment like this to himself. People look at him as a representative of what the show.
I don't think I'm overreacting to being concerned that people are going to want to cause trouble or take this comment to heart and the actors are going to have to deal with it yet again. (It's cause plenty of trouble on other websites) I understand that you are not looking for overreactions or people jumping to conclusions. But I do think it's inappropriate that Carver has open the door to this kind of stuff, so early on in his time as showrunner. Personally, I thought the fandom for once could get past the whole what writer has what favorite, but clearly that isn't going to happen. And it's a shame that the writers are encouraging it themselves.
And I don't think he is encouraging it. It was a casual remark, I don't think he seriously meant it as stating preference for one character or dislike for another and any fan who takes it that way needs a serious reality check!
I understand that Jeremy Carver wants the Cas fans reassured, but I don't think he should appear to be biased or neglecting any side of the fandom. I'm sure the Bobby fans would love to hear something more solid, but nothing has been said. Sometimes silence is the best cure. Especially, since Castiel has been promised eight episodes.
But my problem with Jeremy Carver's statement is that his interviews are always so carefully worded. Sometimes it's strange, because Jensen, Jared, and Ben has all pretty much said it's a one year time jump, but he is still acting like it hasn't been addressed. He's planning something with that. So, for me, it's hard to believe that it's a gaffe or slip. I don't think he should be trying so hard to get one side of the fandom on board when there are so many different sides. I really think he should remain as balance and neutral as possible until the show starts airing again. Partly, because he is setting himself up. If he doesn't treat Castiel and Dean the way certain fans think they should be treated, then he is going to receive a lot of hate for misleading them with statements like this. And if he doesn't treat other characters fairly, this will be the first thing thrown in anyone's face. I think he's making his job harder. (Not only does he have to make up for two disappointing seasons, he has to overcome appearing biased. I don't envy his job right now.) There is no way you can control the fans, but you can take away some of their ammunition.
And it's funny that you say 15 years old, because all the extremists I have tangled with have all been either old enough to be my mother or at least be one of my school teachers! I don't know why! I'm sitting here thinking I'm getting told off by some random kid only to find out that she is 45 or 36. I guess the 36 year old is now 40, but still I'm half her age! I felt like I insulted one of my mom deranged friends. Crazy isn't limited to the 15 year olds! Haha!! But I'm with you as long as the writers keep their preferences out of the writing and balance the story between Sam and Dean, I'm fine.
And do you seriously think that this one casual comment by Jeremy Carver, who was obviously grasping at 15 different ways to say nothing while sounding like he was saying something, was actually reflecting an "extreme opinion"? I really don't think he meant it that way and anyone who takes it that way needs to chill out frankly. From what I've seen since Comic Con, it seems like everyone connected to the show is trying very hard not to give much away about this upcoming season, no-one moreso than Carver and I think he was trying his best here to answer the questions and some folks immediately jumped on this one remark, reading FAR more into it than he actually intended. I just hope the overreaction goes no farther than this, but knowing the fan base I don't hold out high hopes for that.
After watching the last two seasons and how Sam was handled,if Sera was a fan of his, I'd hate to see what she'd do if she wasn't one! I think FAR more weight is being put on little, throwaway statements like these than needs to be. The writers, showrunners, producers and other behind the scenes folks are all humans...they have a right to opinions too. They also sometimes say things that get blown WAY out of proportion. I think you're making way too much of this particular statement and I seriously doubt Jensen, Misha or anyone else is giving it any weight at all, nor should they. If fans want to take it seriously and ask them stupid questions, that's their problem...shouldn't make the actors uncomfortable in the least.
Well, I don't mean to be offend anyone, but I seriously question the reality of someone who spends thousands and thousands dollars on conventions for a television show. Maybe it's because I don't have that kind of money. But if someone is willing to spend $300 for a single photo and $200 for an autograph on top of $500 ticket, when they already have an autograph or photo of the actor, then I wouldn't put it past them to take a remark like this and make a tee-shirt of it! I don't think he meant it that way either. (I think this is past convention in NJ is the first convention in awhile I've seen where shipping wasn't brought up in a panel.) I think he should have kept all his bases covered and not said anything like that simply because when it comes to something someone is a passionate about it isn't always going to be rational. Which is why I do have concerns about this comment. When someone is willing to go to such length for a television, where is the line drawn? And that's where it crosses into problems for the actors.
Not to mention, a lot of reporters for websites are more into getting hits than good writing and interviews. So, why not stir up a little trouble with the Supernatural cast by making it more that it is? Nothing on the internet stays one person's problem. Or else we wouldn't be having discussions like this one.
So, Jensen and Misha shouldn't feel uncomfortable about being asked questions about Destiel or Dean and Cas, because it's the fans' problem? Actors shouldn't be uncomfortable by being asked stupid questions in front of hundreds of fans? I'm sorry, but they should feel however they want to feel about fans asking stupid questions. It becomes their problem when they feel embarrassed on stage in front of someone they care about. If they don't feel anything about it, then that's okay too. I don't think they should be in the position in the first place. But each to their own.
Look, you're saying it's human and people overreaction. I'm saying it's a PR nightmare that could have easily been avoided and might have repercussions and consequences for others. We're just going to have to agree to disagree.
I just don't think saying he loves Cas and Dean is showing that much bias. He said he loved Jim/Bobby too. And if he does show a little bias, it's not that big of a deal if it doesn't bleed into his showrunning decisions. We'll have to disagree on this one.
When I made the age comment, I knew I'd get called on it. :P There are 15 year olds who come across as very mature and 40 year olds who come across as teenagers with a crush. I was referring to the posters who come across as lacking maturity, regardless of their actual age.
I understand. I think it's an odd (potentially problematic) start, but hopefully, it won't turn into anything. But he might as well cover all his bases and just say he loves everyone including the Impala. I'm scarred by the seventh season! :) But as long as the show doesn't reflect any bias, I'm not going to worry about the actual show.
I wasn't trying to call you on the age comment or make you feel like you had to justify what you said. I just find it funny that I never been told off by the 15 year olds. It's always been the one telling me how old they are.
I agree 100% with Kat. JC should have said something like "No one's a bigger fan of the boys [or Sam and Dean] AND Cas" if he wanted to reassure Cas fans that he had no intentions of "killing Cas off". Before the season starts he is making his character favs known. The interview pretty good and intriguing for both boys (and Cas) until he said this.
I liked seasons 6 and 7 also and I am very interested in seeing how Jeremy plays out this scenario, especially since he didn't have any input into where the story was going to leave off.
When I first read this interview, I thought that statement was very strange and likely to cause issues too. I don't think he meant anything by it and it's probably more reflective of the kinds of questions he been getting in all these interviews than anything else, but I still chose not to retweet or post it because I didn't want to deal with extreme fan reaction on BOTH sides. I don't think it's a big deal but you may be right - it could come back to haunt him. Of course anything is fuel for the fire in the Supernatural fandom so he might as well get used to it right from the start if he's going to last.
As for Sera vs Jeremy, during the hellatus before season 6 there was a lot of love for Sera Gamble (at least among those who wanted the show to continue). Mostly fan reaction was positive to hearing that she would take over Kripke's role. It was only after episodes started airing that she was vilified. My guess is that the same thing will happen to Carver. In my opinion, many online SPN fans seems to be inherently pessimistic people who look for things to be wrong and then latch on to those things. Believe me, Jeremy has no better chance at pleasing everyone than Sera had. Let's just hope that he pleases a bigger majority overall and that fan backlash won't be near as strong.
That is a very good point that he should be getting used to the Supernatural fandom's ups and downs from the start. There is no point in hiding it. But the inevitable might have been delayed longer. I've only heard about some of the extreme fan reaction on twitter and so far it was just a extreme Cas and Dean fan gloating about other fans being upset by his comment. Especially, when I don't think the comment was made with any intention of hurting or neglecting any part of the fandom.
I'm sure Carver will have to deal with some of the same fan woes as Sera. But up until this interview I thought, based on his past episodes, he would have a better chance of not being labelled like other writers. Now, I don't think. In fact I think he is going to be judged differently for saying this by certain fans. I'm still willing to give him a chance at a better season than the last few.
Thank you! :) I'm not sure if he is making his favorites known, but he is certainly giving that impression to some. I understand why he would say something like this given the context of the question, but I stand by thinking he shouldn't have said any characters. You are probably right that if he had said both Winchester and Castiel or Team Free Will, it would have lessen this appearance of favorites. But I think until he has settled into his role of showrunner and fans have seen a couple of episodes under his guidance, then he should have steered cleared of saying anything like this, even if it was about both Winchesters.
I understand the extreme reaction,s .And that sometimes people will tend to see the worst case scenario .And I will admit after season 4 I am as wary as anything where Sam is concerned esp after the instant fix and poor telling of the post wall sl last year.
The problem is regardless of what showrunner said it once it has been said it can't be changed. And wether it was a honest answer or abit of political answer ithe fact is it is now out there. So there will be expectations now .So I have to agree with others maybe discretion would of been the better part of valor.
But it won't be something I will lose sleep over .
All the interviews were informative, Jared said just what I had said, Sam always wanted a life away from hunting, so that was not surprising that he is getting on with his life. I am so excited about this season. The only new thing was they are walking back the away for a year timeline. This summer has really dragged.
To quote Gabriel "Can't we all just get along?" As much as I love Dean and Cas, the show would NOT be Supernatural without both brothers and I have enjoyed most of the Sam eps. Jared is an excellent actor and the eps where he gets to strut his stuff are some of my favorites. It is funny to me how the smallest comment can bring on these kinds of reactions, but you are so right and "fan" just go overboard.
Oh believe me, I more than agree with you on some of the fans. I'm not one of those who spends thousands to attend Comic Cons and such...I don't have that kind of money to spend...and it frustrates the hell out of me when some of these fans take little things like this and blow them out of proportion. The thing is, if fans like us read these remarks and suddenly get worried that this is what's going to happen, then we're giving that kind of reaction credibility and I don't think we should. Does that make sense? I just think it's a mountain being made out of a molehill, that's all. Some people will be bound and determined to created that mountain no matter what...we don't need to feed into that extremism and help them.
No, actually I'm saying that you're reading it as PR nightmare and I don't happen to agree that it is. Jensen, Misha and the others are more than capable of handling whatever the fans throw at them. Frankly, if someone questioned this statement and threw a remark like that at them, I have little doubt Misha would blow it off with a joke the way he does everything and Jensen would handle it with the class he always shows. No, I don't feel that either of them should be put in the position of being embarrassed by fan questions, but I really don't think they would be. Again, I think you're making more out of this than is necessary, so as you said, we'll have to agree to disagree.
We need to remember that while Jeremy Carver may be taking over as showrunner he is not at all new to the show, so he should be well aware of the kind of fan reaction it stirs. Which, I suppose, according to some of the arguments here points evern further to why he shouldn't have made a statement like this, but I still think it's being blown out of proportion and I really hope it doesn't come back to bite him because overzealous fans won't let it go.
Amen, rehab. As usual, we agree. I just hate to see fans getting distracted by silly little things like this instead of going into the new season with an open mind and giving Carver and his creative team a fair shot. I'm looking forward to what he's going to do with ALL of the characters this season! :)
It never helps when a showrunner comes out with certain statements .I agree with those who say that now there will be certain expectations because of it.that cant now be avoided . I dont want to get all tangled up in what Sam's story maybe like as last season was such a disappointment in how they did Sam,s post wall sl and the instant fix . Sam can try normal but he can never be normal because the bottom line is he isnt normal and 7 yrs of storyline as told us that.
Very much looking forward to where they take Sam's story this season, sounds like something new for him. It also seems like we might be actually getting more Sam POV and emotional arc than the last few seasons. But you know he also gets to still be a kickass hunter involved in the main arc of the season too.
The stuff about perceptions is interesting. The stuff about Sam quitting hunting and people perceiving that he didnt look for Dean? Hopefully there will be a lot of people looking mighty stupid for jumping to conclusions too early come the end of the season.
Not worried about Sam and Dean's relationship, I quite enjoy watching Sam away from Dean. I don't think we get to see enough of what Sam does outside of when he's with Dean so that will be a nice change hopefully. Also dont care that Dean will be lying to Sam because well they lye to each other all the time and I've come to accept that. Plus I'm really hoping Dean's lies and dealings with Benny come back to bite him in the ass this season. I'm hoping this will be Dean's version of Sam's season 4 and Cas's season 6. I hope Benny sticks around too, I want to see him cause trouble.
I've been watching Liane Balaban in a few things recently and am impressed with her, she's really very good and incredibly pretty. I'd like to see her stick around for the season at least.
Crowley is always awesome and the mytharc actually sounds exciting.
i think that Bobby will be back...in some form. Well, its more so wishful thinking ..but looking at the shows track record and how they kept certain aspects of bobbys character a secret last year (well done btw) ... its safe to assume that we could get one last glimpse of him.
But if not, im really gonna miss hearing IDGIT every episode. ( ill just have to convert it to real life now i suppose...lol)
He was a writer originally, which is totally different than being the show runner. As show runner, he will be blamed for everything (including all scripts) while writers are only blamed for their individual episodes. His experience with Being Human probably trained him better for fan response than writing ever did. After all, Sera and Jeremy tend to get high marks for writing but Sera got blasted for being a show runner. I expect the same to happen to Jeremy because SPN fans are never happy. The show is going to go in places that tick people off and that will be placed directly on his shoulders. I understand that you think this has been blown out of proportion but in all honesty I think the reaction has been pretty mild compared to what I expected. Of course I have avoided Tumblr where problems usually escalate quickly so maybe that's where you are getting an overreaction from.
No, haven't seen Tumblr...all I've seen is what was posted here and that was bad enough, but you're right it could've been far worse given the usual fan reaction. I'm well aware that Jeremy Carver used to be a mere writer and is now a show runner, but my point is that he isn't new to the show and surely when he was writing in the early seasons, he had to be aware of the fan reaction and probably aware that Kripke (who was showrunner then) was getting it far worse than the writers were. So I'm fairly certain he has at least some idea of what to expect. I think he just didn't realize the way this one casual remark could possibly be taken because he hadn't intended it in any controversial way.
Ah well then we will have to agree to disagree then because to me, you are the one overreacting here. A fan said that Jeremy should not have said something and it might come back to haunt him or cause fan expectation. I don't know why that has led to so much discussion or why it's still being talked about days later.
Agreed, seasons 6 and 7 went down hill, though it sounds like season eight will be better. I hope it has more humor in it as well... Like the good old days in seasons 1-3
Really interested in seeing what happened in Pulgatory! I love Cas, and Dean, and hearing Carver say "No one is more of a fan of Dean and Cas than I am." gives me high hopes for this season!
I think it happen when carver said he like dean and cas story better we got pissed and then someone said sara liked sam then why make him souless in season 6 and have it all about dean in season 6 and forget about sam's problem in season 7 they could have done more I have no clue what the writer are doing but they like to get the fans mad. hey katadams03 I am going to a con this year I dont have the money and I am not rich or anything but I use my tax money just to get a ticket and saving money is a bitch but to me it worth it to see the guys I love to meet them in person is a dream come true and A once in a lifetime thing for me if to have the world end in dec if that happen I can say happly that I met jared and jensen that be great with me.
So it looks like they're all trying to find the word of god. Hope it doesn't end up like It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. (Great movie but was a slapstick comedy)
Purgatory could be a great chance for them to bring back characters they have killed off. I know alot of people have come to the believable conclusion that when someone dies for good, as in, gohsts (Bobby) Angels(Gabriel, Baltazar, Raphael) I for one, would love to see Gabriel return, at least one last time.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Jeremy Carver is certainly adept at the showrunner skill of using a lot of words to say nothing. He has also mastered using different words in different interviews to say the exact same thing - nothing.
ReplyDelete"IGN: Lastly, I’ve got to try… Jim [Beaver] was at Comic-Con promoting the show, so is it safe to assume...
ReplyDeleteCarver: Love him! No answer."
What a tease ;)
Lets hope season 8 is a step up from the god awful seasons 6&7.
ReplyDeleteSome of the episodes last year were embarassingly bad
Jeremy Carver King of the run around \o/
ReplyDeleteThis season sounds really good i cant wait to see how dirty Crowley can get.
ReplyDeleteWhat he's saying about playing with perspective and expectations is really interesting. I hope it pans out well.
ReplyDelete"No one is more of a fan of Dean and Cas than I am."
I hope Carver realizes just how high that bar is. :)
Why would he want to give anything away. He wants us to watch the show, not read about it. I am looking forward to the season. I also loved seasons 6 and 7 too. Looking forward to how Jeremy brings Dean back and everything that comes with all things Winchester.
ReplyDeleteGood interview, however, I think it's highly inappropriate to say that "no one is more of a fan of Dean and Cas than [he is]." He should not be taking sides in the fandom.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think sometimes the show really needs to realize how lucky they are by having the actors they do especially, Jared, because a lesser actor would be really upset by this statement. I just pray that at the next convention and on twitter that there are no (you-know-what) fans who think it's cute to ask Jared how does he feel working for a writer who doesn't like his character.
Oh I´m so friggin` excited for this season ;)
ReplyDeleteI hope so too! The last two seasons were laughably bad, especially in plot and dialogue.
ReplyDeleteI really love Jeremy Carver's interviews... even though he's really good at saying nothing I get this vibe that he knows what he's doing and that he's got a good plan in place, which unfortunately was something I never got with Sera's interviews.
ReplyDeletePlus, I really like how he seems to be setting up the season and I'm incredibly intrigued now about the perspective thing.
ReplyDeleteI don't see where all the anxiety over ditching Sam/Jared comes from.
ReplyDeleteJust a LITTLE bit of over-reacting here!
ReplyDeleteAgreed on the different feeling from Carver than we got from Sera. I always had the feeling Sera was never quite sure of where she was going. Carver seems to be on more sure footing...either that or he's REALLY good at pulling the wool over our eyes! :D
ReplyDeleteAs for the whole perception thing....I'm really intrigued by that myself.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Jared or Sam is going to be ditched, but fans asking those kinds of questions isn't a stretch.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't add anything to the interview, so why say it?
What's "the typical Sam fan reaction?" And to follow that up, what would "the typical Dean fan reaction" be?
ReplyDeleteIf fans are asking uncomfortable questions to the actors based on this comment then they also need to stop overreacting.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but you know very well what I meant by that.
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth, I took the comment as just an attempt to reassure Cas fans who are still concerned there is a plan to kill off Cas.
ReplyDeleteAs for the fan reactions, I don't think anyone can control that.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'm overreacting to being concerned that people are going to want to cause trouble or take this comment to heart and the actors are going to have to deal with it yet again.
ReplyDeleteI understand that Jeremy Carver wants the Cas fans reassured, but I don't think he should appear to be biased or neglecting any side of the fandom. I'm sure the Bobby fans would love to hear something more solid, but nothing has been said. Sometimes silence is the best cure. Especially, since Castiel has been promised eight episodes.
ReplyDeleteBut my problem with Jeremy Carver's statement is that his interviews are always so carefully worded.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching the last two seasons and how Sam was handled,if Sera was a fan of his, I'd hate to see what she'd do if she wasn't one!
ReplyDeleteBasically this. The remark was in no way inappropriate. If fans over-react, that's their problem.
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't mean to be offend anyone, but I seriously question the reality of someone who spends thousands and thousands dollars on conventions for a television show.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention, a lot of reporters for websites are more into getting hits than good writing and interviews.
ReplyDeleteLook, you're saying it's human and people overreaction. I'm saying it's a PR nightmare that could have easily been avoided and might have repercussions and consequences for others. We're just going to have to agree to disagree.
Reread my post. That's not what I said.
ReplyDeleteI just don't think saying he loves Cas and Dean is showing that much bias. He said he loved Jim/Bobby too. And if he does show a little bias, it's not that big of a deal if it doesn't bleed into his showrunning decisions. We'll have to disagree on this one.
ReplyDeleteWhen I made the age comment, I knew I'd get called on it.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't trying to call you on the age comment or make you feel like you had to justify what you said.
ReplyDeleteI liked seasons 6 and 7 also and I am very interested in seeing how Jeremy plays out this scenario, especially since he didn't have any input into where the story was going to leave off.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first read this interview, I thought that statement was very strange and likely to cause issues too.
ReplyDeleteAs for Sera vs Jeremy, during the hellatus before season 6 there was a lot of love for Sera Gamble (at least among those who wanted the show to continue).
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Carver will have to deal with some of the same fan woes as Sera.
ReplyDeleteI understand the extreme reaction,s .And that sometimes people will tend to see the worst case scenario .And I will admit after season 4 I am as wary as anything where Sam is concerned esp after the instant fix and poor telling of the post wall sl last year.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is regardless of what showrunner said it once it has been said it can't be changed.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed 6 & 7, would have loved it if Misha had been around more.
ReplyDeleteTo quote Gabriel "Can't we all just get along?" As much as I love Dean and Cas, the show would NOT be Supernatural without both brothers and I have enjoyed most of the Sam eps. Jared is an excellent actor and the eps where he gets to strut his stuff are some of my favorites. It is funny to me how the smallest comment can bring on these kinds of reactions, but you are so right and "fan" just go overboard.
ReplyDeleteOh believe me, I more than agree with you on some of the fans.
ReplyDeleteI just think it's a mountain being made out of a molehill, that's all.
ReplyDeleteWe need to remember that while Jeremy Carver may be taking over as showrunner he is not at all new to the show, so he should be well aware of the kind of fan reaction it stirs. Which, I suppose, according to some of the arguments here points evern further to why he shouldn't have made a statement like this, but I still think it's being blown out of proportion and I really hope it doesn't come back to bite him because overzealous fans won't let it go.
ReplyDeleteAmen, rehab. As usual, we agree. I just hate to see fans getting distracted by silly little things like this instead of going into the new season with an open mind and giving Carver and his creative team a fair shot. I'm looking forward to what he's going to do with ALL of the characters this season! :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely CANNOT wait!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt never helps when a showrunner comes out with certain statements .I agree with those who say that now there will be certain expectations because of it.that cant now be avoided .
ReplyDeleteI dont want to get all tangled up in what Sam's story maybe like as last season was such a disappointment in how they did Sam,s post wall sl and the instant fix .
Sam can try normal but he can never be normal because the bottom line is he isnt normal and 7 yrs of storyline as told us that.
Maybe you should re-read mine because I got your point just fine and was responding to it perfectly reasonably.
ReplyDeleteI downloaded the app for Chrome and set it up with just SPN items and it has not worked for several days..any ideas??
ReplyDeleteVery much looking forward to where they take Sam's story this season, sounds like something new for him. It also seems like we might be actually getting more Sam POV and emotional arc than the last few seasons. But you know he also gets to still be a kickass hunter involved in the main arc of the season too.
ReplyDeleteThe stuff about perceptions is interesting.
ReplyDeleteBut if not, im really gonna miss hearing IDGIT every episode. ( ill just have to convert it to real life now i suppose...lol)
7 was better than 5 and 6, but I agree about the past few years not being great.
ReplyDeleteHe was a writer originally, which is totally different than being the show runner.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but SPN fans tend to exagerate everything.
ReplyDeleteNo, haven't seen Tumblr...all I've seen is what was posted here and that was bad enough, but you're right it could've been far worse given the usual fan reaction.
ReplyDeleteAh well then we will have to agree to disagree then because to me, you are the one overreacting here. A fan said that Jeremy should not have said something and it might come back to haunt him or cause fan expectation. I don't know why that has led to so much discussion or why it's still being talked about days later.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, seasons 6 and 7 went down hill, though it sounds like season eight will be better. I hope it has more humor in it as well... Like the good old days in seasons 1-3
ReplyDeleteReally interested in seeing what happened in Pulgatory! I love Cas, and Dean, and hearing Carver say "No one is more of a fan of Dean and Cas than I am." gives me high hopes for this season!
ReplyDeleteI think it happen when carver said he like dean and cas story better we got pissed and then someone said sara liked sam then why make him souless in season 6 and have it all about dean in season 6 and forget about sam's problem in season 7 they could have done more I have no clue what the writer are doing but they like to get the fans mad. hey katadams03 I am going to a con this year I dont have the money and I am not rich or anything but I use my tax money just to get a ticket and saving money is a bitch but to me it worth it to see the guys I love to meet them in person is a dream come true and A once in a lifetime thing for me if to have the world end in dec if that happen I can say happly that I met jared and jensen that be great with me.
ReplyDeleteBingo. You hit the nail on the head.
ReplyDeleteSo it looks like they're all trying to find the word of god. Hope it doesn't end up like It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. (Great movie but was a slapstick comedy)
ReplyDeletePurgatory could be a great chance for them to bring back characters they have killed off. I know alot of people have come to the believable conclusion that when someone dies for good, as in, gohsts (Bobby) Angels(Gabriel, Baltazar, Raphael) I for one, would love to see Gabriel return, at least one last time.
ReplyDeleteCarver is not going to tell anything. Supernatural has been better than most at keeping secrets. Mum's the word.
