Whoa, first off Bill isn't dead nor is Stephen Moyer leaving the show. Bill I think got reborn but he isn't lilth.. Second, I had a feeling that the rest of the authority would be killed. Third, Andy is now the father of quadtuplets stupid that Maurella just walked away like nothing happened; she's the mother.. Dumb storyline... The only thing that Bill did right was kill Salome. Roselyn's word about everything going to hell after Roman was killed was right. She just realized that now?? Roman would never allow this crap to happen.. Luna I think she'll be fine, good thing her and Sam saved the day. Warlow was probably the guy we saw on top of Jason's truck.
Agreed. It was awful. This show is a complete mess. Way too many main characters and story lines. Ever since they killed off Godric true blood has continued to downward spiral. What a shame this show has become
Good entertainment. Wish it was longer... seemed so short but the Diner scenes were pretty funny. The show was always the best "bad" show out there so can anyone really expect silly stuff not to happen?! Sit back and enjoy.
Weird one for sure.... Some plotlines worked, but a good lot sure didn't and this is an underwhelming send off for Alan Ball as the show runner. It was entertaining in parts: the finale for Russell (yay finally), the diner birth scene was a hoot, although the set up for next season -Andy and the half fae quads... ugh might be ok as background, but not a primary storyline please. It will be interesting to see if Bill is Beel, or if Lilith has resurrected herself (to borrow someone's earlier term - Billith lol!) And it's a good guess that the main theme for next season will be the Vamp/Human civil war.... The Alcide plot for me ended with a whimper as I was hoping for a more epic showdown with JD, but this is a good place to end that and the wolves in the show unless the new showrunners can truly make them integral to the show. They really felt like an afterthought to me for the most part. Also for the writers, no more Terry/Arlene long plots either... and keep Layfayette in his extra spicy mode.... Oh and Tara/Pam? I approve that!
the best scenes all birth quadruplets baby girls, her mother sexy ,orgasmic ,awesome .SCREAM we futures mother we could do that with that kind of deep enjoyment,Sam transformation very cool,he go inside the woman and the next inside explosion fantastic ,russell death very lighting was a bloodiest episode by far but the end what in hell is happen to BILL.uuuyyyy OPEN A BIG DOOR FOR THE NEXT SEASON
I've got to say i didn't really love this finale, I won't say it didn't leave questions but I definitley don't feel in any rush to answer them, and if you ask me, that's not a good sign for a finale. Bill's character has gotten plain boring, when he survived I honestly felt disapointed. And every time sookie shows that she still loves him I get sick of her too. Love Jess/jason and tara/pam thou I don't give the two girls all that much time as a couple, I do like them as funnny grumpy friends.
the thing i love most about HBO shows is the fact that the whole season is basically preparing for a final battle.. which is the final episode.. its like in a video game you level up for the final boss.. i loved the episode..
What I liked.... > Lots of Lafayette...and he was drunk and playing some R&B in Merlottes! > Most of the speechifying vampires got staked > No more Russell -- They completely wasted the character most of his time on this season. Yet another example of why just because a character is awesome and a hit it does not mean that character should be brought back from the dead. {please take note VD} > Finally something interesting on the Vampire War front....Bill disintegrates then pops back out of his blood. > The birthing scene. Between the acrobatic, the glass shattering screaming and the audience that was hysterical. Despite all of that I really hope Andy and Holly find a way to stay together...despite the 4 baby girls.
What I didn't like --- > Jason seeing his mother and father's ghosts and becoming a completely different character. What the hell was that all about? > Too many stories I had lost interest in by the end of the season; the rescue of Emma, Alcide taking out the pack leader, the outcome of the vampire infighting.
The big problem with TB and it has always been a huge problem for the show is the constant shift in tone and the crazy amount of characters they have. They can't decide if they want to be a cracky fun show (which lets face it really is where the show works better) or something more 'serious'.
I prefer it when the show is just being silly and fun, even the Andy stuff worked this week because of everyone's reactions to it. Whereas the wolf pack storyline once again dragged because why are we meant to care for these people?
Russell's death was so like wtf, I had to rewind and figure out what had happened. Really a full out war between the races would actually be something really cool to see but they always back down from it.
Things I did like though
x Pam and Tara, its an odd pairing but I hope they stick with it.
x Eric and Nora trying to figure out the technology. Also Eric calling Pam and Tara family, that was sweet.
x Lafayette!!!!!! Its nice to see him fully back to his old self again.
x Luna as Steve Newlin, Luna can annoy me at times but sometimes her storyline works. Just sometimes mind.
I think last season was the worst since basically nothing happened. I liked the episode since it reconciled the very slow paced season. Plus Anna Paquin was pregnant majority when they went into production so a lot of rewriting had to be done to accomodate her hence the messy storylines and her significantly lessened appearance
Now last night was awesome. Wish all the episodes were like this one. Only one complaint. I know get over it but I still want to see Eric naked. Bill and Sam not sooooo much. Love it when TB is serious, dramatic, and funny all rolled up in one. It was! Can't wait for next season.
- Back to the Sookie/Eric pairing, will always be "Team Eric" - Lafayette, like he was during the finale, finally back to his "normal" self as he was the first few seasons - Less Sam and Luna. - No more werewolves unless the writers actually come up with something different than werewolves being addicted to V. - More Tara/Pam, would mean that there will be lots of great one-liners - Bill as a menace, but more in the background, never been a fan of Bill, so less screen time would be awesome!
Well I have mixed feelings about this one. On one hand I have to say I laughed a lot and I enjoyed having certain characters come back to together or be together for first time. Mariella's birth scene was also hysterical and so was Sam flying into Harris! On the other hand I felt like the season is completely a set up season, as it seems to have introduced several story lines that are totally not concluded. I also think Russel deserved a more epic death, although It was interesting to see him a vampire destroyed in a new way and maybe this emphasizes what might becoming next with Warlo, Billith, or some other bigger fish to fry...I had suspected that Lilith might be looking for a vessel and I do like that is Bill that she transforms with, only because the idea of trying to save him seems like an exceptionally daunting, but also amusing task. So am looking forward to the next season.
That's all for now, I think my light is breaking... :P
I always felt they did a good job in balancing the drama and the comedy until this season. Personally I think if it wouldn't be serious at all I would loose interest, because xenophobia isn't something to sneeze at, because it can promote extreme psychotic behavior in people, but the fact the show makes it SO ridiculous is why it's fun. (If we can't cry, then we better laugh about it!) --But something in the majority of the episodes this season seemed less catered to the real emotional/reflective scenes and more catered to slap-bang-surprise antics, which made the show and characters feel a little superficial IMO. They kept a lot of the characters apart too which didn't allow for much character development. In one way, since season 4 especially, I can understand the need to explore the idea that their are things in the world that can physically change, as season 5 seemed to home in on that in really strange ways extending season's four's 'people from the beyond the grave wanting to come back and continue'.... But depending on how season six goes I could come to understand season 5 better. At this point though I felt someone gave the writers some too many martini's followed by a shot of Lilith's blood. :p
Sure he is. Lilith needed a corporeal vessel to cross the corporeal plane. Marnie was not herself once she was able to merge with Antonia. It made a new persona....With this though, because Lilith's blood is designed to bring Lilith back, it's hard to say if she just took Bill over, or of schizophrenia is on the horizen, let alone if Bill can ever be separated from her, or what they have become together!???
More Pam and Tara, yes! I actually think I would really like it if they focused on Pam, Tara, Eric and Nora and their little vampire family. If they bring Sookie back in as Eric's love interest in a much more fulltime capacity than this season it would be interesting to see if she can repair her relationship with Tara.
My thoughts exactly! And one more time, less Bill! (although I doubt that will happen since he will be the big baddie next season, but a girl can dream right? =P)
I'm just going to keep it short and sweet and say that the most awesome/disgusting part of the entire episode was flySam zooming into the female chancellor's throat and ganking her from the inside-out. Yuck. But also WHOA.
Ok. But the only way that makes sense, which I have been saying this all along, is that Lilith isn't what we think Lilith is, but that's not say that Bill didn't transform on behalf of a belief in Lilith, despite what Lilith actually is.
Really bad finale. - They should have ended the Lilith nonsense but they didn't. - They brought back Jason's parental hallucinations and they shouldn't have. On top of that, all of Jason's hate makes the character extremely annoying. - They killed off the rest of the main Authority people, except for Steve Newlin (regrettably), so that was a good play. - The Andy / Fairy stuff was stupid. If it wasn't for Lafayette being very entertaining throughout it all it would have been useless. - The werewolf pack stuff was boring. All of it. - Nora survived and will presumably be back next season. I'm okay with that. - The Warlow plot went nowhere. This isn't the first time True Blood introduced a plot thread and just let it lay there for someone else to pick up next season. It's bad writing and annoying for viewers. - I saw the Pam / Tara thing coming but it was still amusing. I approve. I also loved Jessica's "I knew it!"
Best characters this season: Eric - He got to be the cynical, level-headed guy surrounded by total idiots all season. Eric as the voice of reason was a really nice change of pace. Pam - Great Pam backstory, great scenes with Eric and Tara, great stuff with Sookie, and the yellow Walmart Sweatsuit. Jessica - After a shaky start, she did some great stuff with Jason, Bill, Hoyt, and Tara this season.
Worst characters this season: Bill - Totalitarian religious nut Bill is unwatchable. Period. Somehow, "Billith" will be much worse, I'm sure. Alcide - Everything the writers gave him this season (story, dialogue, scene partners) was very very boring. So Alcide sucked this season but it's not Alcide's fault. Russell Edgington - The writers brought him back for NO reason at all and they brought the awful Steve Newlin with him. At least Newlin had a purpose (he was the Authority's PR guy).
Best new character: Molly (Tina Majorino) - Unfortunately, she's dead. So... Nora - She's dull but pleasant. She's more interesting to watch outside of The Authority so there's some potential there.
Worst new character: Patrick Devins (Scott Foley) - Simply put, a bad character compounded by a really bad storyline. The runner-up is... Salome (Valentina Cervi) - A character who is supposed to be a cunning, manipulative woman of legend turns out to be trampy, delusional, & dimwitted. Big disappointment.
Best storyline: (none?) If I have to choose, I'd say the process of Tara's death, becoming a vampire, and adjusting to her new life. In spite of Tara's ever-horrible personality, she did have some good material this season.
Worst storyline: 3. The Authority storyline. It was all downhill after Roman's death. 2. Lafayette's brujo storyline. 1. Terry & Patrick's curse.
Alan Ball left plenty of terrible plot threads hanging on his way out the door and it's my fondest wish for True Blood that the new showrunner quickly ties-up those threads or instantly drops them next season. This show needs a clean break and a fresh start.
So many diff story lines, and yet the ONE we all wanted to know about wasn't even MENTIONED: Warlow!!! Sooooo very disappointed about that ! ! !
Lafayette- Priceless, it's wonderful to have our lovable, hilarious Diva back!
Fae birth scenes- too funny n over the top! If only Birthing was that fun and enjoyable!!! LOL Andy is in for a heap o trouble (and Billith could cause trouble w that too).
Am glad that AVL got their dues! The Wacko Waco scenario was getting old! Saw the "Billith" transformation half the season ago, just wasn't sure which one was going to be the vessel. Billith next season's big baddie.... will it come down to Warlow vs Billith?
Do not care for the whole Jason seeing mom n daddy & his new Hate based feelings. Didn't he learn anything from the Obama's?
Absolutely LOVED the Godric/Eric family scenes! LOL- they just need Sookie to be the mom! Tara n Pam..... that has been coming since the beginning..... but was great fun watching! Have not been Tara's biggest fan, but I have completely enjoyed her as a vamp...n coming into her own. She's def a much better character now that she's a vampire. Jessica: I KNEW IT! Too funny.
Eric being the Sane one was a nice change of pace. Season of the Bros.... started out that way, but Bill going all Drink the Koolaide was interesting. Got old - but was interesting to see Eric try so completely to bring Bill out of it. Staying behind w Sookie, listening to Bill belittle and turn on her, you could see him seething & wanting to protect her, Eric has come along way!
Absolutely loved Sam's version of taking out a vamp ! ! ! !
Warlow. WARLOW. Again, WTH? He wasn't even MENTIONED!!!! My biggest gripe and disappointment to the Season Finale.
.................... so long TB .............. will be a long wait till June 2013!
Oh please it wasn't so terrible, second leaving plot threads hanging actually is good. Makes us fans use our imaginations and figure out things for ourselves. This show can't satifisy every storyline or plot. I think killing Roman off was a terrible idea, with him this crap with the vampires losing it completly would have not happened. I liked the finale, it wasn't terrible.
When all your finale does is wrap-up substandard plot threads and introduce new plots and subplots for the upcoming season that are actually worse, it's definitely terrible.
That's your opinion, a lot of people including myself don't see the finale as being terrible. I just hated the way the stupid authority got after Roman died, the writers also made him not one bit scary or funny. I'd would love to have seen have more entertaining than just standing around yelling... Oh well, the writers can't always do things the way we want..
There is a "bonus" scene that includes a brief mentioning of Warlow. Jason and the others step off the elevator and they start shooting some military personal. After Jason kills one he says, "I'm coming for you, Warlow." Nora looks up at him and says, "Warlow! -What do you know about Warlow?!" Jason looks at her like it was him who asked the question equally perplexed.
STV Has the Scene Here: http://www.spoilertv.com/2012/08/true-blood-episode-512-save-yourself_27.html
Was I the only person thinking that Lafayette should be managing Merlotte's all the time. Judging from the dinner he made for Andy and Holly and those drinks he created this past ep, he could bring fine dining and some style to Bon Temps. :-D
I have to agree with you a LOT. You had more patience with the Authority storyline than I did. I did not like it from the start. The moment "Lilith" was uttered I was done. For me, while I recognize the logic in having the vampire religion informed by Christianity, I was really hoping for something creative; something more unique than tweaks on something that already exists.
I've been voting for getting rid of the Alcide storyline/character from the moment he stopped being involved in Sookie's story. As iffy as the Bill, Sam, and Lafayette's stories occasionally were they at least were fundamentally connected to the core of the show. Alcide's story was not. It wasn't even happening close to town. Just never worked for me.
I'd like to suggest adding the fairies to the worst storyline list. Sookie's diminishing powers, the idiot Elder who stupidly walked out to face Russell alone, Russell immune to all of the full blood fairies' power when Sookie could knock him across the room without knowing what she was doing. I hate it when writers make characters suddenly stupid and/or incompetent just to make things come out the way they want.
I kind of disagree with you about Patrick Devins though...I didn't really have a problem with the character, I think the biggest problem was the storyline. And, for me, the biggest part of the storyline was that it left Bon Temps. Keeping it close to home and close to Arlene could have raised the stakes and given it some meat.
With regard to Warlow; I don't think that's a dropped thread. It always seemed clear to me that they were just introducing one of the stories planned for next season.
- I agree that the fairy storyline was logic-defyingly bad but, to me, the biggest factor in determining the worth of a storyline is its entertainment value. In my view, nothing was less entertaining this season than Terry, Alcide, & Lafayette's storylines. - I totally agree with you about everything concerning Lilith. - Warlow was a dropped thread. By that, I mean that "dropped" doesn't mean abandoned. True Blood made Warlow the focus of thee consecutive episodes and then the show just dropped it. That's unacceptable. Hinting at something like this to set it up in a future season is okay but when you spend three shows on it and then just leave it lying there, that's just bad plotting.
"One of the things that irritates me the most about True Blood is that it seems like they have the talent to nail more than they fail but they don't for some reason." I agree 100%. The lack of execution on this show is baffling.
i think that some people who love the books are disapointed more because they dont fully go by the books anymore my friend was telling me that season 1 was more like the book but the rest theyve just done different things but guess its their own takes on the characters like she said in book 1 laffayette was the one found dead in the car when it was someone else in the season finale
ive gotta admit i thought it was a good episode but i agree with some comments that there was too many story arcs going on at once alot to take in personally i gotta admit i thought it would end up eric and bill taking over the vampire authority on a funny note the look on jessicas face when tara snogs the face off pam was priceless lmao "I KNEW IT!!!! lol
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteI liked the finale, it wasn't terrible.
You might be surprised, especially with a new showrunner next season. Things have a way of getting better.
ReplyDeleteWhen all your finale does is wrap-up substandard plot threads and introduce new plots and subplots for the upcoming season that are actually worse, it's definitely terrible.
ReplyDeleteThat's your opinion, a lot of people including myself don't see the finale as being terrible. I just hated the way the stupid authority got after Roman died, the writers also made him not one bit scary or funny. I'd would love to have seen have more entertaining than just standing around yelling...
ReplyDeleteOh well, the writers can't always do things the way we want..
ReplyDeleteSTV Has the Scene Here: http://www.spoilertv.com/2012/08/true-blood-episode-512-save-yourself_27.html
Me too! I love how she kept smelling Sookie!
ReplyDeleteWas I the only person thinking that Lafayette should be managing Merlotte's all the time. Judging from the dinner he made for Andy and Holly and those drinks he created this past ep, he could bring fine dining and some style to Bon Temps. :-D
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you a LOT. You had more patience with the Authority storyline than I did. I did not like it from the start. The moment "Lilith" was uttered I was done. For me, while I recognize the logic in having the vampire religion informed by Christianity, I was really hoping for something creative; something more unique than tweaks on something that already exists.
ReplyDeleteI've been voting for getting rid of the Alcide storyline/character from the moment he stopped being involved in Sookie's story.
Completely agree.
ReplyDeleteNice post. Well thought out.
ReplyDelete- I agree that the fairy storyline was logic-defyingly bad but, to me, the biggest factor in determining the worth of a storyline is its entertainment value.
"One of the things that irritates me the most about True Blood is that it
seems like they have the talent to nail more than they fail but they
don't for some reason."
I agree 100%. The lack of execution on this show is baffling.
nah hes something else like reborn in a new image or something but might be interesting
ReplyDeletei think that some people who love the books are disapointed more because they dont fully go by the books anymore my friend was telling me that season 1 was more like the book but the rest theyve just done different things but guess its their own takes on the characters
ReplyDeletelike she said in book 1 laffayette was the one found dead in the car when it was someone else in the season finale
ive gotta admit i thought it was a good episode but i agree with some comments that there was too many story arcs going on at once alot to take in
ReplyDeletepersonally i gotta admit i thought it would end up eric and bill taking over the vampire authority
on a funny note the look on jessicas face when tara snogs the face off pam was priceless lmao "I KNEW IT!!!! lol
I liked this season. Much better than season 4. The potential for a vampire human war in the next season is really interesting.
