  1. It was good, but something felt off to me the entire episode....

I'm not sure if it was the acting, wardrobe, or the set dressing, but it just did not feel like 1860's New York City to me. Well it felt like someone tried to make it look like 1860's NYC on the cheap. The language often felt wrong to me too. No obvious modern slang, but it lacked the 150-year old slang too.

All that said, I think I can get past that if it continues on the fairly strong path started in the pilot. The pilot's pacing and plot were good enough to introduce many of the main players and have an interesting story at the same time. Not all pilots achieve that, in fact most do not.

I also liked that they did not "clean up" the era. Sex workers/ victims (including children), filthy roads and hovels, mass corruption, racism and rat infestation all need to be part of the series and thankfully the writers did not shy away from that.

I think the pilot set up the series nicely, I like some characters, enjoy disliking others and I'm looking forward to more of 'Copper Corcoran's adventures.

    Side note:
Was I the only one that was yelling at the good Doctor Freeman to not trust his wife, the lying and scheming Jackie from Veronica Mars?? XD

  2. I have watch the first half of it and I agree that I think it's something in the wardrobe that feels more "costume" (like mad hatter) than actual atire, but Martin Scorsese and his prop/costume/art departments are hard to live up too! -But I also think it's the contrast to the exceptually griity backgrounds that make that noticeable.

I will come back later when I finish it though to discuss the Pilot itself.

  3. So far, I've only watched less than a half hour. I will continue with the remainder another night. Wow, I can only imagine the filth and stench. That was life and it was ugly. At this point, I can't comment on whether I like it or not. However, it amuses me to say "Copper" using my fake British accent- LOL

  4. - I was sure this show would have a micro-budget so I thought everything looked decent enough considering.
    - I also liked that the corruption and general filth of the era wasn't ignored.

Honestly, except for Corcoran and Elizabeth Haverford, it seemed like every damn person on this show was shady and completely untrustworthy.
