This show is all over the place: teen drama, dance/broadway show, comedy, adult drama, Gilmore Girls-knockoff. We ended up with reference to Dead Poet's Society, Ferris Buller's Day off, half-a-dozen other shows. Everyplace is fun to watch and all the references are fun, but it is really hard to figure out what kind of show it is. I loved Michelle's number at the end. The mace story was a bit forced considering she'd had no problems identifying it as mace and not hairspray 5 minutes earlier, but it served the purpose. The Hubble "dream" came out of left field, but it too told an interesting story. There isn't a part I don't like, but I am hoping when it comes back this winter it finds a more cohesive narrative thread (without losing the dancing and showtunes and humor.) I really do love the show.
I agree. I love the show, but it's all over the place. I don't really know where it's trying to go or its purpose. I'm a big fan of Amy Sherman-Palladino and will watch anything she's tied to, but this show needs to find a focal point.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteI, personally, love this show. I enjoy every bit of it. And tonight's episode was pretty grand. I lost count of how many times I burst out laughing.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I just wish there weren't so many "bits." :) 'cause usually that lack of focus gets things reamed by the critics and ultimately canceled.
ReplyDeleteThat's true; but that's kind of what makes this show the way it is. :)
ReplyDelete"You're like an X-rated Mary Poppins." Love the humor in this series. Another great ep!
