    loved the episode. interesting that the watch stops ticking with a gun cocking sound. its not breaking news that they would hint at a walt death with a clock is ticking hint, but that its jesse's gift and there is a gun sound. hmmmm
    more interesting is episode 7 is no longer everybody wins, its now called say my name.

    Damn! What a crazy scene! Heisenberg was out in full force shooting down every single desperate plan Skyler came up with! That is the exact reason why I love Bryan Cranston as an actor, so damn compelling.

    And I love Jesse. Good on him for getting the gift. I really hope the series doesn't end up with him dead or in prison, I hope he at least makes it out ok.

    On Skyler, while I understand that she is trapped, a prisoner, has no other possibility other than to "wait"... I just don't care. I was thinking about that in the final scene. I should be feeling bad for her, and while I do, I just don't like her character and therefore don't care as much as I probably should.

    Lastly, awesome episode!

    I had a theory last week regarding the end of the episode. I said that Walt was implying those words were meant for Mike but because it wasn't totally implicit, Jesse could have presumed the words were meant for him.. This could possibly lead to a build up of Jesse's paranoia throughout the season, leading to him potentially killing Walt... which could also tie in with Jesse's discovery that it was Walt who in fact poisoned Brock.

    With this episode there has been another tidbit that would appear to support my theory. The end of the episode again, the clock ticking down (possibly counting down to Walt's death) ended with the cock of gun, which was pretty clear.

    That watch was a gift to Walt....... from Jesse.

    Oh and I was hoping to come here and avoid all the misogynistic Skyler hate. *shakes head*


    So here comes a rant which has been building for a while now due to the reactions after every episode that I come across on various sites and frankly I am fed up with the same old bullshit.


    If you are watching Breaking Bad and still worship at the altar of Walt and still believe Skyler needs to die and insist on calling her a bitch, then you are watching the wrong show.
    Everything that the writers are trying to say across the last 5 seasons is that is that Walter White is not a nice man; he is not the hero any more and hasn't been for a very long time.
    We are not meant to cheer on a man that emotionally and mentally abuses and manipulates his wife. It doesn't matter if she had an affair no one deserves that kind of treatment.
    We are not meant to root for a man that has completely and utterly screwed with his partner and so called friend Jesse. Jesse is far from innocent but he is basically being manipulated by a man he trusts and sees as a father.
    This is a man that once had some kind of justification for doing the things that he did but now he only does it for power, to feed his ego. He could have given it up months ago but he didn't because he doesn't want to. He doesn't care if it is destroying Skyler, if he has manipulated Jesse on countless occasions, if he is ultimately putting his family at risk. He cares about being in control.
    Walter White has slowly risen to the top but all that comes after is the inevitable downfall. It's not a question of when but a question of how. Will it be Hank, Jesse, Mike or Skyler? It doesn't really matter too much in the end because ultimately Walt's fate is down to his own actions. He has chosen to be the man he is right now and he will have to face those consequences.

    The Skylar hate seems disproportional to me. I mean there are some nasty people on BB. I'm not going to lie, I really hated Skylar in first couple of seasons. She was super shrewish, really one dimensional and stereotypical. She was like the female equivalent of Hank's "work" personality. But it wasn't until she got out of the house and then found out about Walt that she developed another layer (or 2) and she's become a much more interesting character. Do I like her? Not really, but the only people I like are Mike, Jesse, and Hank. So that isn't saying much. I think they're going somewhere really interesting with her and she is definitely a threat. I am totally waiting for her to break bad and take a shot at Walt to protect her family. But I can only take her in small doses (like a lot of the characters--good thing there's a big supporting cast).

    See I can get people disliking her in earlier seasons but she has changed so much and like you say she is definitely a threat now and it is fascinating to watch. The writers have really given Anna Gunn some great stuff to work with and she is bringing it every episode now.

    It's not fair, but I am definitely harder on female characters and whether or not I relate to them. And as much as I dislike her personality, you need her for the perspective she gives you on Walt, like how psychopathic he was talking about the last year. One of the things that impresses me the most about BB is that you don't have to "like" (or "love to hate") a character to feel that the role is integral to the storytelling. That is really hard to do.

    I don't think you necessarily need to empathize with her. She getting backed into a corner, and unlike Walt, she still sees the difference between their old and new lives. We need that perspective as an audience, so we don't get comfortable and forget that Walt is (becoming) a dangerous psychopath. She's in a dangerous position, so at least I think you need to feel the precariousness of her life, and care a bit for how that impacts the plot (does she go on the offensive, does Walt head her off at the pass, etc.) even if you don't care whether she lives or dies. I guess my point is you don't necessarily have to care for her for the show to be impactful but you need to recognize the dramatic tension her position is creating.

    I like that line of thinking. Regardless of how I feel about Skyler, I should at least be aware and acknowledge the dramatic tension from the corner she's been backed into and how that could... and will... impact the show, which I am fully aware of. Thank you.

    Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that "you" personally didn't. I meant more of a universal you, like "one." In some shows "the viewer" needs to agree emotionally with a character for the plot to work. In the case of BB I think "the viewer" only needs to respect the role the character is playing. Agreeing or disagreeing with them emotionally doesn't negate the dramatic tension, ie, I don't have to like her and not want her to die to be dramatically invested in what happens to her.

    I always loved every character in the show, and still do. I do not root for anyone, nor against anyone, but I still look forward to Walt's small victories.
