  1. A pretty good episode. It baffles me that this show doesn't get a lot more views, and it's actually down from the previous season. With the previous numbers I saw, this show isn't going to last. Unless they went back up at some point?

Nina's issues are completely understandable, but she has a lot to atone for. I think rejoining the group is going to be a very bumpy ride for her.

  2. Very well done ep. I loved how everyone got some decent screentime, even Kat. I think that the writing is probably even better than last season...

  5. I saw parts of this episode when I was taking breaks from TNT last night. And it was actually pretty good. I'm not sure if other viewers feel as I do, but one big reason I've never watched this show fully, is because of how abruptly Syfy ends their scifi shows. I really liked Stargate SG-1 and Eureka. And it was great how long those shows ran. However, when Syfy wanted to end things, they did so in a sudden, without-much (or any)-warning manner. Leaving the show writers with maybe a couple, or even one episode, to wrap up their show storylines (for some shows, no wrap-up). Since what I read happened to SGA, SGU, & (to some extent) Sanctuary, I am now really wary about watching any more shows in Syfy. I am intriqued by Alphas, but will likely watch it on Netflix or something, when Syfy finally abruptly ends this show too.

  6. I have to say the Nina back story was beautifully done, kudos to the young actress who played her. I've never been a huge fan of the character but they did a great job with her in this episode. The bit when you saw she had been pushing herself well that was so heartbreaking.

  7. While I feel sorry for young Nina, I can't feel sorry for adult Nina. She's a hypocrite. She steals, robs, sexually assaults men and women (Rachel obviously) and she kidnapped a man for days and kept him away from his wife and son when she herself knows the fear of a father being gone. People have gotten humiliated and hurt because of her. If a normal man had taken a woman by gunpoint and did the things Nina did to Tommy or any other man she's taken away from, everyone would be up in arms and no one would care about his rotten childhood. It just seems really stupid to me that she knows her father died because she used her ability, she knows Tommy pushed her away because of her ability and yet she just pushes everyone anyway. And let's not forget that she nearly had Hicks kill what's-his-name Monday night. This isn't even a remotely sympathetic character.

  8. I found the whole Nina pushing Rachel scene in the club, very awkward, but great for the story. Can't wait for the next episode, looks exciting.

  9. Well he was using his ability so I don't think he really thought he was going to actually fall (because when he doubts himself, his ability turns off, hence he'd actually have fallen).

  10. This episode showed the power and the flaw inherent in being an Alpha,
through Nina's story. The way this show told that story really made me
understand, in an instant, what the show Alphas was about.

This was the first episode I ever saw of Alphas. I saw a promo for it while watching Warehouse 13, and was interested in checking it out. So, I have now full watched this entire episode. This episode was pretty interesting to me. And, I find myself intrigued by Nina, her ability (which can/can not be controlled), and her obvious personal issues, stemming from her powers and what happened to her father as a result of it. I became so intrigued, I had to catch up on the show. It took some time, but I have now watched all of Season 1, and the rest of the episodes from this current Season 2.

Season 1 is very flawed. Season 2, while better, is still lacking in consistency. The writing needs to be more consistent, the dialogue is just odd and out of place sometimes (i.e., Nina's two to three attempts to compliment/"hit on" Cameron in season 1, as a lazy attempt by the writers to show the characters were interested in each other --> this could be why some people don't like Nina & Cameron together imo), etc.

As a whole, this show's story is quite good, the arcs within a season needs some work, the writing, especially dialogue, needs to improve greatly. This show is definitely not as well-written, directed (action sequences are great, regular office shots or non-action sequences are inconsistent), and not run as well as most big network shows, or even some other cable shows (i.e., TNT, Showtime, USA, etc.). However, I think this show is still entertaining, and has a lot of potential. I hope Syfy sticks with Alphas for a few more seasons, and let it mature. Although, Syfy may benefit from getting a better writing team, directors, and maybe even better showrunners.

Back to my thoughts on Nina. I find that several fans (or just a handful who post often) are quite
harsh about Nina. If you can make people do whatever you want, most, if
not all, people would have difficulty not accidentally using that power,
consciously, subconsciously, etc. It's human nature to always be
'wanting'. If you can have anything you want, what stops you from
getting it? Nina wasn't raised with an awareness of her abilities. Once
she has grown, her habit of using her abilities without thought of
consequences has been fairly routine. Or, if you think of her as an
addict who has been addicted since youth, how can she possibly, on her
own, stop that pattern of behavior, especially if that's what is
familiar to her? I sympathize with her character, and find Nina's
struggles and flaws a fascinating way to humanize her, making her more
multilayered. Nina has potential to grow as a character now, and I hope
the show continues with character development, for her, and for the rest
    of the team.

Nina & Cameron: I think Nina and Cameron have potential. They seem to have some chemistry with each other imo, especially seen when it's more organic, like when either character is injured, hurt, or in danger, you can see the special care they have for each other. But the writing and situations they were given during their initial 'relationship' in season 1 were written terribly. Those writers really screwed up this potential couple. The awkward dialogue and inappropriate situations need to be addressed. I found the writing for Rachel & 'blond guy' to be massively better than the Nina-Cam stuff from Season 1. I hope the showrunners don't give up on pairing Nina & Cameron, but please let it be written MORE ORGANICALLY, so that their relationship can grow, like how Rachel-'blond guy' are progressing in their relationship.

  12. Yeah, I found that scene awkward as well. Obviously a male testosterone moment. I find a few moments like those littered throughout the series run so far. I hope the showrunners/directors, or whoever it is who decides to put those scenes in, don't do scenes like this as often. You know a show is losing/low quality when they have to rely on shock value or fan pandering.
