The "and that's as far as we're going" from Carver freaked me out for a moment before I realized that he probably meant it as, "that's as much as I'm saying for now."
As much as I seriously don't believe that it would make narrative sense to leave Cas in purgatory for much more than half the season, much less to leave him there permanently, the thought still makes me anxious because I no longer trust the writers to do what makes narrative sense.
But Edlund said that Cas has a significant story this year, and went on to say that they front-end loaded the season with "the boys", so I'm just going to cling to that comment and hope that it means Cas will return in the second half of the season.
I've known 8 episodes for Castiel for weeks. Also that he was the old Cas from seasons 4 and 5 but more weary and mature. He commented on the boys being so. Misha also said that Sam and Dean went their own ways for almost a year so it will take time. This is as usual for Kristin, several weeks behind everyone else.
The problem with Cass and Misha nailed it at Comic Con, is that its hard to center to story around the boys again if he's around, meaning that if the boys get in big trouble, they call Cass and Cass save the day with his power. I understand the problems of the writers, if they get Cass out, then what? The boys going on a MOTW hunt (or not), get stuck, call Cass and they can't do anything on their own, and let people complain the boys aren't the heros anymore?? Or, never call Cass, don't see him, and people complain that its doesn't make sense getting him out and not use him??? Or let him out of sight, let the boys be the hero of their own shows and people complain that it doesn't make sense to not have Cass?
Ah there is the crux of it. They created a character too powerful to the story who then became popular. They are never going to please everyone. I'm beginning to think they need to just make a choice and risk ticking off 1/4 of the fandom. By trying to tightrope they are ticking off 1/2 of the fandom.
It's like everything^^; Give friends to the Winchester; you'll have complains that in season 1 they were never asking for help. Take their friends awyay, you'll have complains that they're always alone and its depressing. Give all the guess and friends to Dean, people will complain Sam never interact with anyone....give Amelia to Sam; you'll have complains again....Make Dean take the leads and decide everything; people will complain Sam is a grow up and can make decision and do thing on his own. Make Sam say that he's a grown up and doesn't need Dean to tell him when yo cough or scratch his nose; complains that they're not as 'close' as they used to be and its ruinning the show...etc
If people could at least understand it it would be less worse, if you understand what I mean. In those exemples I said, if I just take one and I like option B, better than Option A, but they're going for Option A, I might not be on a party mode, but I won't run around saying they're ruinning the show, I'll know that there's a lot of people out there who have different taste than me and like it, so its perfectly fine
Personally, I think they should explore an option where Cas is still around, but depowered, as in fully fallen from grace. Keep the character, but clip his wings. He'll still have all the knowledge that he had as an angel, but without the power to swoop in as a deus ex machina every time the boys call. Make him HUMAN.
Ha! Supernatural fans will complain about everything. I remember I heard news that I was for sure would please all Supernatural fans - that season 7 would have 23 episodes instead of 22. Imagine my shock when there were still people who complained about that. Insane! Dean was right: "For fans they sure do complain a lot."
Maybe it is time to devote a couple episodes to the remaining angels and end it with the boys unable to save him from being hunted down and wasted or forcing Castiel from the vessel to allow Jimmy to go back to his family. You could even toss in a nice double-cross from Meg or Crowley in the first scenario to build more heat for those characters. How hot would Crowley be if he were responsible for Cas' demise?
I wonder if that's going to happen since pretty much all the angels, or almost all, are dead. In The End, Futur Cas thought that the reason why he lost his powers was cause the angels left. If he was right, with the angels being dead doesn't that count as them not being there anymore?^^;;
They could have Purgatory have a permanent effect on Cas' powers, diminishing them significantly. They could cut his wings off. They could have him permanently excommunicated from heaven. There are lots of ways to de-power Cas, so I don't think that's much of an excuse.
Killing Cas again would not make sense. The Winchesters - and the audience - have already gone through the emotional arc of dealing with his death. There's no reason to do it again, it wouldn't have the necessary emotional weight.
I seriously doubt 1/2 of the fandom would want Cas gone. How many episodes within the past couple of seasons have his powers been an issue, really? I would buy that 1/2 of the fandom want better stories for Sam and Dean, but Cas's powers are only one of about a dozen issues there.
Like you said in your other comment, killing Cass has been done already, so has been Cass without power, and Cass dealing without his powers, that's another issu. If they do that, some people will get angry for doing the same story again. No matter what the writers do with Cass, it will bring anger from some fans
My theory is the big purgatory secret Dean is ashamed of is that he threw Cas under the bus to get himself out of Purgatory, a la Shane/Otis on the Walking Dead. Cas wouldn't be too keen on helping Dean when he gets back out, and Dean would finally understand what betrayal really is.
Not at all. But I would estimate that 1/4 of the fandom wants Cas gone and 1/4 of the fandom wants Cas in every episode. Therefore, by giving neither side what it wants, the tightroping is annoying about 1/2 of the fandom. If they make a choice then only roughly 1/4 of the fandom will be ticked off and of that fourth only part would actually stop watching.
See, I'd consider myself in that remaining 1/2 of the fandom. I neither want Cas in every episode, nor do I want Cas gone. But I enjoy his occasional appearances, as I did Ellen's and Bobby's, and I wouldn't have had any idea what you meant be "tightroping" had I not been a regular visitor to this board. I would have just enjoyed his appearances, and not given them a second thought.
Obviously a majority of Supernatural fans are. I would also bet that 95% of the offline fans fit in the category of not caring much either way too as long as the story is good. The extreme sides of the issue are definitely NOT the majority just like in everything that online fans fight over. However there is definitely loud, vocal contention on both sides of the subject that has reached the higher ups in TPTB and together they make up a lot of fans. If ratings start to show a definite pattern, something will change. So far, ratings stayed steady throughout season 7 whether Cas was in the episode or not. So obviously the fringiest, most extreme sections of the fandom that say they are boycotting certain episodes based on if Cas is in the episode or not don't make a difference. Time will tell if it remains a non-factor.
Yeah, something like that. Or maybe Crowley fighting alongside him under the guise of keeping his demons safe and then turning on him. Something to keep the Cas fans that would be mad watching to see Crowley whacked.
It would make sense if it is done to elevate Crowley to the Big Bad. If you have a bad guy who is well liked you run into what pro wrestling did. The lines got fuzzy and heels got more popular than faces. You don't need the emotion for Cas. You need it against Crowley.
It would also make the fight to defeat Crowley even more personal and make the ending as cheerworthy of a ganking as Zachariah and Ruby. Could become the favorite visceral death.
Can't they bring Cas back as a human, I LOVED Hippie Cas, getting out of purgatory could have taken his power away. Misha does not have to be an all powerful Angel, just use him, he has perfect chemistry with both the boy.
Me too, but I understand that's not everyone that want that and I understand the writers problems that they're putting themself in '''trouble'' no matter what they do with the character
I'm with you on this, just get Misha back as a regular, I have liked him in all of his characters, even the Levis, but he was good as Jimmy and he would not have to use his Angel voice...and he would already know about Demons and what to do. Loved Hippie Cas, so funny.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Yay for Matty!!
ReplyDeleteNothing new for SPN folks, Kristin should just give up already.
ReplyDeleteI need to watch Awkward. now! The episode seems epic

Baha, I love how you put spoilers in quotations.

ReplyDelete;P Kristin prefer getting weeks behind than saying stupid things out of blue like the ''Bobby in Purgatory in Death's door''
ReplyDeleteDean post-hell was certainly not "all is well." I hope we do get more of a driven Dean who is "very into hunting" instead of depressed Dean.

ReplyDelete''Demons I get, people are crazy'' ;P (no offense everyone, just joking ;P)

ReplyDeleteThat so-called TVD scoop made no g*ddamn sense whatsoever.
ReplyDeletei dont think Harrison (Scandal) needs a love interest right now. I want Dave and Penny not Alex on Happy Endings
ReplyDeleteSo Crowley tips off Cas' location to the other angels and they all die in an all-out angel rumble?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if that's going to happen since pretty much all the angels, or almost all, are dead. ReplyDeleteI'd take Cas in any form. <3
ReplyDeleteSo if him bein human is the only way, so be it.
I just want him alive, good, out of Purgatory, and around Dean and Sam at least occasionally.

ReplyDeleteTVD is my 2nd favorite show, but I am getting worried that they are getting to many characters, for me less is better.
