How I Met Your Mother - Rumor - Jason Segel to quit after season eight?

Aug 1, 2012

Actor JASON SEGEL is set to quit hit U.S. sitcom HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER after its upcoming eighth season, according to a report.

In an interview with Austrian website kurier.at, he is reported as saying, "It's great to do some 'Rated R' stuff again, because I've been playing the nice guy for quite a long time now. That's why I'm gonna quit How I met your Mother after the eighth season."

A representative for Segel had yet to respond to requests for a comment as WENN went to press.

  1. Not buying this yet. I'm sure if they give him enough money, he'll stick around for a ninth season.

  2. Oh wow
Don't know how they would explain Marshall's absence

  3. I'm also not getting too upset over this until it's confirmed but I think if it were true I'd rather it end with all five of them than keep going without. And if he leaves then what happens with Alyson? Either she's written out too or Marshall and Lily break up, neither of which I want to happen. xD Maybe they could find a way to keep them together without her leaving...

  4. I think is there's a 9th season I'm sure he'll stick around.

  5. Hasn't Segel been saying this for years now?

  6. I think i alone in not being too upset about HIMYM possibly ending after the next season. Its a excellent series but i think the whole premise of the storyline comes with an expiry date. I just don't want to see it being ruined by attempting to drag out the storyline for money and ratings, and ending up repeating its self. I say end on high and be remembered for the right reasons...all stories have to come to end.

  7. Then I really hope this will be the last season.
They can't do more without him or any one.

  8. The article references an interview from a while back, but I think they should end it after this season. The novelty has worn off, the characters have become caricatures of themselves, and now you're starting to get people not even caring who the Mother is anymore. It feels like seasons 9 and 10 of Friends right now. And nothing has really happened in the past three seasons that makes me think they can make a comeback season like the 8th sort-of was for Friends.

  9. i don't want a 9th season...it started as a great show but except 2 or 3 great episodes, the rest of season 7 was dull. just end it after season 8!!!!

  10. I hope they end it on series 8, don't get me wrong I love the show but tv series like scrubs made the same mistake thinking they could continue without major characters. I'd prefer to see less, but amazing episodes with all the cast, than more but sub-standard episodes without marshall.

  11. There is no way the show will continue without Marshall in it.

  12. Either it's a play for money, since he's got star power, or he is actually done with the show. I'm sure he's had to turn down roles, or opportunities because of the show's schedule. Something that could make you not want to turn up to your job anymore, the more you have to turn down. Especially creatively, since he just restarted the muppets movies, he may be less enthused to come back to his regular job.

As for a ninth season, just end it this season. It doesn't matter about ratings and popularity, shows should go out on a high note, and I think they've ridden the show far enough. My opinion is that they've already past the point that they should have. But I'm guessing they'll renew the show for a ninth season and Marshall will be "out of the country" for most of the stories, coming back for 4/5 episodes.

  13. this show should end at season 9...
    its great but enough
is enough.... l no longer care who the mother
is and the producers are dragging
    it too much

  14. The sooner they end this, the better. They've dragged on the mother storyline way too long.

Its a shame, the first two seasons were perfection.

  15. He has mentioned not wanted to do the show after season eight in a round about way before by saying that his contracted only to season eight, but i think if they throw enough money at him he'll stick around for one more season. Let's not forget that they are only in 'talks' for a ninth season at the minute, so it could go either way, but they won't do the show without one of the five main characters, so if one is out the show won't go past season eight.

  16. He already called this 2 years ago...When they renewed for 2 more seasons after season 6 he said that season 8 would be his last...It's not a surprise ......

  17. see my comment above...he called his shot 2 years ago

  18. then this should be the final season!
eight years is a long run!
just introduce the mother and get this over with! i love HIMYM but i'm getting tired of wating to see who the mother is!
    it's time!

  19. If this is true, then just let Season 8 be the final season.

  20. Well I'll be honest and say I hope this pushes them to make this season the last one. How to drag your mother out has gone on way too long. To the point of where the main story has gotten ridiculous. I can't even care about who the mother is, really I don't. And that is just plain bad story telling.

I understand the financial reasons of dragging out a hit show. But with a show that has a clear main story they shouldn't do these things. Give it the time it needs, like 4 seasons and then create a spin off if you like it so much. That way I can at least avoid getting sucked into something I like which then drags out forever. :-/

  21. I think it's about time they wind it down anyway; it's just not as funny as it used to be.

  22. Jason Segal said that he will do 8 seasons long ago and I remembered that when they started doing negotiations for season 9. I was hoping they will convince him to stay on, but this worries me. There is no HIMYM without any of them...

  23. He has been say this for while now, so not surprised. Not sure HIMYM can give him enough money if staring in the show is holding back his movie career to be honest. If he does leave than the show should end after 8 season

  24. As an Austrian citizen I can tell you one thing: I wouldn't believe anything printed in this newspaper. Though this newspaper might (sometimes) be accurate broadcasting current Austrian news, I can't recommend believing anything else they're saying.

    Please don't believe this crap.

  25. Considering Ted is married and have his daughter in 2015...they can't drag it much longer anyway ;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Agreed. Better to finish it now nicely before it gets any worse :)

  27. He's mentioned this before but if he's really going to go through with it, he gets a thumbs-up from me. If they're not going to end HIMYM when they should, Segel shouldn't have to stick around any more.

  28. Alien abduction. Then he could come back in the last episode of the show and explain where he'd been. "I told you guys for years, it's all REAL!"
