SHOWCASE’S #CONTINUUM CONTINUES. SUMMER’S #1 SPECIALTY SERIES RECEIVES SEASON TWO ORDER

TORONTO – August 25, 2012– Showcase announces the renewal of its #1 series that swept the nation this summer, Continuum. The phenomenally successful series will begin production on its 13 episode season two order in 2013.

Continuumdebuted on Showcase to an audience of over 1 million viewers (2+), shattering all previous premiere records on the network, making it the#1 specialty series of the summer. Boosting Showcase’s viewership by indexing 117% for A25-54 and 123% for A18-49 versus last summer, Continuum averaged #1 on Sundays, dominating its timeslot (9p-10p) across all key demos. The epic first season concluded with themost-watched finale in Showcase history.*

In the season finale titled ”Endtimes,” Kiera raced against the clock trying to prevent a Liber8 bombing, which ultimately killed hundreds of innocent people. The shocking twist led to an explosive finale leaving many lingering questions. In the search for answers, fans continue to flock to the Continuum social networks to sound off. Since the premiere, there have been over one million page views at showcase.ca/continuum, making it the most visited show site of all time, and averaged over 10,000 Get Glue check-ins per new episode. Boasting over 630,000 video views, fans can catch up on the entire first season of Continuum at showcase.ca/video.**

Continuumis a one-hour police drama centered on Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols), a cop from the year 2077 who finds herself trapped in present day Vancouver, searching for convicted criminals from the future, known as Liber8. With unexpected assistance from teen tech genius Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen), Kiera concentrates on bringing down the terrorists before they can change the course of history forever. Impersonating a local law enforcement officer to expedite her investigation, she forms an uneasy alliance with her new partner, detective Carlos Fonnegra (Victor Webster).

Filmed on location in Vancouver, Continuumis developed and produced by Reunion Pictures in association with Shaw Media.

  7. That's great news but they sure were slow about renewing it.

  8. Even after the huge premiere followed by the huge ratings drop before leveling off.... They kept solid ratings for the second half of hte season so this really is no surprise.

I'm glad a SciFi series got the renewal, but I really want the writing to tighten up a bit on the series honestly.

I hope in Season 2 we learn more about the larger conspiracy and more about the fture and how that plays into our current present timeline. They do not need to jump all the way to the events immediately before Liber8 jumped back to our present day... They can show some dates in the near future, a decade or two in the future etc..

I found the best part of Season 1 to be Kagame, so Tony Amendola will be missed a lot. Most of the other members of Liber8 just are not that dynamic or interesting to me and I think they need a new player in the game.

That all aside, I think the premise has potential and Season 1 was solid with room for improvement. I hope it improves!

  12. Excellent news! TV has become the place where the best writing, and challenging acting is taking place. And "Continuum" appears to be among the best of the new crop of shows. Can't wait for the U.S. debut of Season 1 (which is reported to be) in January 2013.

  14. It is fantastic news indeed. Simon Berry announced it at Fan Expo to an enthusiastic crowd, half an hour before receiving the news himself.

I think Liber8 may be sharing screen time with Nicholas Lea's character next season as Kiera's main antagonists so that may not be a problem. At the very least, it will buy the show time to find a more dynamic villain.

  16. yes, its a great news, can't wait for see the second season

  17. It wasn't that good.

  18. I would not mind that at all!
Krycek is fun in any role... erm.... Nicholas Lea I mean of course...

If he sticks around for any real amount of episodes it will be a good thing. The series really lacks dynamic actors with gravitas. Nichols and Webster are okay as far as actors go, but they do struggle in lead roles to me.

  19. Great news! Was just looking back over our coverage of S1 today (http://bitchstolemyremote.com/category/tv-on-hiatus/continuum/) thinking about whether the theories of a statement at FanExpo would be true or not.

Like DarqueMode and Bruce_F, I'm hoping that we'll see more focus on the conspiracy, the links to the future and more of Nicholas Lea. I'm really hoping they give more screentime to scenes with Kiera and Alec face-to-face and delve into their "old" relationship in the future.

    Exciting news, though!
