IMO the last few episodes spelled out something to me in that Jimmy is more like Nucky in the sense that perhaps being a good Gangster isn't about killing, but being politically/socially perceptive (intelligent) and being able to manipulate/convince others of your power. In season one there was this nice little scenes that played to Hudini's brother. Magicians are about optical illusions and deception in order to maintain an authoritative status.
The flash back to Princeton scenes pointed out that Jimmy is capable of being able to "read between the lines" to understand what the novel is actually about. In the final episode of the season Nucky approaches Eli on his porch and says, "Et ti Brute'" -Eli didn't understand what that means, because Eli is uncultured about the history of the world, such as this epic line from Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" (which may mean Eli is being set up and/or is going to get his).
Additionally Nucky went to Jimmy's house to discuss "terms" and the writers did not let us partake on the actual conversation. Additionally Jimmy prepared for his absence...I don't think any of us would buy that Jimmy would just lay down like a dog to be made a spectacle out of in front of the other gangsters and so whom would prepare for death, unless it isn't death, but just leaving.
The event was also done in the rain (a lack of clarity)...so I believe they used a trick gun (which can still severely pierce the skin) and that Jimmy is going to be Nucky's ghost, because no one will see him coming.
Because I really don't feel the way the final episodes played out equal an epic death, that I think if Jimmy were to die, that he deserved.
If they try to have Jimmy come back after showing us him getting shot in the head not once, but twice, then the show will lose some credibility for me. This is the kind of show that just should not pull that kind of BS. I'd be happy if Jimmy was still on the show, but I'd be really annoyed that they pulled a lame fake-out to begin with.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Nice poster! Still don't buy that Jimmy's dead, but looking forward to the new season.
ReplyDeleteFor me Jimmy death is the big mistake of all time. He was one of my favorite. I hope Nuck pay for this.
ReplyDeleteNo half measures Nucky.
