Spring 2013. Yes it's not precise, and yes we sort of knew that already, but now it's a period confirmed by Netflix, which also confirmed the episode order could grow beyond 10 episodes (David Cross mentioned there would be 13 episodes) — what a great thing it is when the "broadcaster" doesn't want to cut down the episode order but instead doesn't mind if there are more episodes than previously planned (source).
Like in episode 3.13, Ron Howard will make an appearance in season 4 : "I'm told that I'm going to have to make an appearance, I'm showing up again at some point. I'm going to have to film that soon, which will be kind of fun. Usually I'm a little too busy, but with Mitch and Arrested Development, it's irresistible" (source).
Scott Baio will appear as well. Baio played Bob Loblaw in episodes 3.03, 3.04, 3.05 & 3.08, replacing Barry 'BJ' Zuckerkorn as the lawyer of the Bluth family (source - this is older news).
Hopefully his Happy Days co-star Henry Wrinkler, aka Barry 'BJ' Zuckerkorn, will be able to appear as well ("This is not the first time I've been brought in to replace Barry Zuckerkorn. I think I can do for you everything he did. Plus, I skew younger. With juries and so forth").

What a joy it is that there are news to report on Arrested Development.
ReplyDeleteAbout the 53 jokes, when I rewatched the show last Spring, I found many of them. Pausing when newspapers or regular papers were shown on screen does help - although I had not clicked for the "Bum gets Balloon" joke :D.
What's blowing me away is "I'll get u Bluths – Hello", I had not noticed that before. That was in episode 2.06, 24 episodes before the reveal in episode 3.13. Also a world-shattering reveal : Tobias is a black man ! How I wish they would have followed up on the storyline.
Other jokes I didn't see : Blendin (#7), Acting (:) like a Man (#11), Oscar's marijuana with a turtle on the box (#19), love that. This show is so great.
Yeah, I saw that article a few days ago and was surprised by how many I actually DID catch, mainly because I've only seen about half the episodes more than once. Great read!
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad.. I missed the "Bum gets balloon" and "I'll get you Bluths- Hello" jokes too and I have seen each episode 4 or 5 times probably! XD
ReplyDeleteI also missed the connection between Craft Services and Marilyn Kleist, even though I did catch the Craft Services bit....
I missed the VW ad connection, but I remember that ad after watching the YT video for it! XD
The 53 jokes listed (well at least 50 of them since the last 2 were note worth mentioning) just go to show how far ahead of anything else on TV, then or now, Arrested Development was!
So many jokes were set up seasons before the punchline... just amazing considering how many jokes were in every episode. To make so many of the jokes mean more on second viewing since they foreshadow events you know will be coming... AWESOME!
If I recall you're a John Hawkes fan, right?
ReplyDeleteFX here just aired the pilot episode for the series they passed on a year or more ago called "Outlaw Country"....
I have not watched it yet, but with John Hawkes at least one aspect should be very good and very watchable!

I don't know if I'm a John Hawkes fan (I haven't even seen Deadwood yet), but I've enjoyed Winter's Bone and Martha Marcy May Marlene and he was terrific in them. And he's a reliable performer who's got a 'face', like Ed Harris or Forest Whitaker.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, thanks for the info on Outlaw Country, I'm interested in that. Although judging by the reaction of the people commenting on Deadline, the ending is more frustrating than fulfilling and since it wasn't developed as a pilot working as a TV movie but just as a 90-minute pilot, I can understand that. I don't usually watch pilots with no follow ups (mostly because it's very rare when they do make it to the air). The only time I did that was for Virtuality (from Ron 'BSG' Moore and Peter 'FNL' Berg), which FOX passed on in 2009, but that was a genuine TV movie. GoT's Nikolaj Coster-Waldau had the leading role, btw. It was a pretty cool pilot if I remember correctly, but a bit confusing and way too ambitious to draw audiences on a weekly basis.
I can't wait for the new episodes to arrived on Netflix. This show is pretty amazing.
