Archer / Bob's Burgers - Crossover episode coming up
6 Aug 2012
Archer Bob's BurgersJon Benjamin, the voice of Sterling Malory Archer on FX's Archer and Bob Belcher on FOX's Bob's Burgers, told Entertainment Weekly that a Bob's Burgers crossover has been voiced and will air in Archer's upcoming season :
"Adam Reed (creator of Archer) really likes Bob's Burgers. The fourth season has a Bob's Burgers tie-in, which is really bizarre. It’s like a Bourne Identity-type plotline. It starts off with Archer as Bob, making hamburgers, but he doesn’t know that he’s Archer. He's at the restaurant, these Russian thugs come in, and Bob dispatches them expertly. Then he's like, 'What just happened? How did I do that?'. So he has to try to figure out why he's so good at killing people".
Bob's Burgers creator Loren Bouchard signed off on the idea, but stayed out of the creative process. "It was prompted by Adam, but Loren was into it". Bob’s wife Linda (voiced by John Roberts) will be in the episode as well, but "the kids aren’t in it. It must’ve been a budget restriction or something. It's like, 'I can’t afford to pay an extra 30,000$ to pay actors'".
As for how the different visual styles of the shows will mesh, "it's Archer-style animation, but with all the accoutrements and characteristics of Bob's Burgers' characters. It is a little weird, because you have to be a fan of both to understand it. But you don’t have to know about Bob's Burgers to enjoy it".
If the crossover threatens to expose how similar his voices for Bob and Archer are, Benjamin isn’t concerned. "It seems like kind of a 50-50 : 50% of people are like, ‘You suck, you use the same voice’, and 50% of people are like, ‘It’s amazing how different they are’. And I really can’t speak to either opinion".
After two shorts seasons (9 + 13 episodes), the 22-episode third season of Bob's Burgers premières on Sunday, September 30 at 8:30pm on FOX while season 4 of Archer (13 episodes) premières in January 2013 on Thursdays at 10pm on FX.

This is ridiculous but I actually like the Bourne Identity-style tie-in plot.
ReplyDeleteAww wish the kids were in it. Would have loved to see Archer and Louise together. Sounds fun though.
