Today I had a conference call opportunity with Willie Garson
(Mozzie) to talk about the upcoming season of White Collar. Willie was very
personable and extremely nice. From the short conference call I can tell that
Willie Garson isn’t just someone who reads lines well. He was very entertaining
and, although this may sound obvious, he really reminded me of Mozzie.
In total I was able to ask three different questions so I’m
going to go through those questions here. My first question was submitted by “themurph2000”
and was “Are there any traits that Stanford from Sex and the City had that you
wish Mozzie had?” Willie responded by asking what his character on NYPD
Blue was, “Chopped liver?” He then went on to say that he wished Mozzie had
Stanford’s style and “maybe more expensive clothes”.
My second question was “How do you think Mozzie compares to you
personally?” He had earlier said that the role was very easy for him to fit
into because Mozzie has a number of the same mannerisms as he does in real
life. He said that he thinks that out of all of the characters he has played in
the past 25 years that Mozzie is the closest to him in terms of personality
minus the international con man part.
My third question was “What does your son think of the show?” He
said that his son loves the show as well. He went on to say that he really
likes how younger people watch the show because he sees that a lot of TV
targeted for young viewers is “mind numbingly stupid”. Willie said that he also
enjoys how kids can watch White Collar with their parents because the show is intelligent
and grown up, but doesn’t have an excess of blood or nudity. Interestingly,
Willie said that his son sometimes has to explain the plot twists to him. He
added that he will be directing an episode if the show gets a fifth season. (Fingers crossed!)
Of all of the question asked, one of the most interesting question was "Do you think you could convince Elvis Costello to guest star on the show sometime?" He responded by saying he was not allowed to answer. Something tells me this is already in the works.

Willie made the interview extremely fun and entertaining while
at the same time informative. As soon as I get the full transcript with all of
the questions I will be sure to post it. In the meantime, you can follow Willie
on Twitter if you haven’t already @WillieGarson.
