White Collar - Season 4 Premiere - Advance Review

White Collar left off last season with America’s favorite thief, Neal Caffrey, on the run from the FBI. This season picks up 6 weeks after the action with Neal and Mozzie hiding out in a cave in the desert….. NOT. Neal and Mozzie continue to prosper on an island with no extradition treaties to the United States. They are living with enough money to enjoy life, but not too much to attract attention. In the midst of the six weeks Neal, while obviously missing New York, seems to have found a second home. He has fallen for a coffeehouse waitress, portrayed by Mia Maestro. He makes a very cool sand castle of New York Skyscrapers for her. Things are visibly hard to adjust to for Neal, but things are even worse for Peter back in Gotham City.
Peter Burke is still searching for Neal while the rest of the FBI breathes down his neck. He and Elizabeth are secretly looking for him while silently trying to keep the FBI off his trail. This is an enjoyable part of the episode although I'm not exactly sure why Peter thought it would be a good idea to circle where he thinks that Neal is hiding out. Eventually Neal gets to talk with Peter. I’ll leave that part for the premiere though.
At the heart of this show is the dynamic between Neal and Peter. This is the only point where the episode faltered. But where it faltered, it also excelled. While there are few Neal/Peter scenes, there are a lot of Mozzie/Neal scenes in the premiere. Going by the name of Barry, Mozzie continues to stay loyal to Neal for the entire episode. Even when Mozzie hears of the danger (in form of suits) coming straight towards them he stays. I’m going to leave that part for the premiere as well. Trust me; it is well worth the wait.
The episode has a good pace and keeps the viewer’s attention with ease. I’ve tried to shy away from discussing the newly introduced bad guys for the season but I will say that two of them are introduced in the first episode. One of them I can see being a major pain for Peter specifically. Overall, I think this could be the start of one of the best seasons of White Collar.

White Collar returns for a fourth season on Tuesday, July 10 at 9/8c on USA. Be sure to come back here to let everyone else know what you thought.
