Wondering why there is no mention of Supernatural at all.
ReplyDeleteone tiny little flash of SPN, the promo from 2 seasons ago. Thanks CW.
ReplyDeleteThat was a waste of time, if I was new to the network I'd think TVD was the only show they aired.
There is 1 small clip of the SPN bumper 7 seconds in but it does seem to focus heavily on the Vampire Diaries.
ReplyDeletethe music is ok the promo .//.SUCKS.//.giving more scoop time to vampire and supernatural leaving in a very...//.LOW.//. plane of support like .//.ALWAYS.//.
ReplyDelete...every body knows C.W is a teen oriented shows is primary focus age audience are 15 to 20 in most cases because we the .//.ADULTS.// dont have the taste to buy things that teen had thats sad because we give them money to make these purchase they had to think about our taste to
ReplyDeleteNeeds more Nikita!
ReplyDeleteThe virtual lack of Supernatural seems odd. I know TVD is their best rated show and they want to promote the new shows, but Supernatural has a big fanbase, and it's moving to a new night. I'd think they'd want to promote it. Heck we saw more of Nikita than Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteThey overdid the "Vampire Diaries" stuff to the point of absurdity. One would think it's their only show, for heaven's sake! I don't know WHY they're now suddenly ignoring "Supernatural" again! I'm not a happy "Supernatural" fan. Frankly, I think we should ALL tell CW their new 'promo' stinks!!
ReplyDeletethats cw for u only a little of Supernatural the best show on tv. But we all now it is a great show. Can't wait till October 3,
ReplyDeletehmm I guess that this promo is much more VD which is a high rated show for the CW. Hopefully, they will release more promos that showcase other shows. I don't particularly like the whole teenage vibe of the promo though either
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping this is just ONE of their fall promos and they'll have different ones with a different show featured at the end of each. If not though, once again Supernatural will just have to bring in the viewers without any help from The CW. xD
ReplyDeleteshould have been
ReplyDeleteCW TV NOWhere
Gossip Girl fans will be happy, the show finally got a syndication deal. STYLE MEDIA have acquired off network rights to the show.
Series to Premiere on Style Wednesday, August 15 at 8pm ET/PTNetwork to Air All-Day Marathon on Labor Day
yes but you would think they would try to promote the hell out of their new shows at least
ReplyDeleteI guess they forgot SUPERNATURAL was voted Best Drama and Best Sci-fi, since I hate rap music and they dissed SPN, I thought this sucked.
ReplyDeleteCan people stop crying about Supernatural, or the lack of thereof plz. That ain't cute.
ReplyDeleteOh definitely-- it would make more sense if they had used more footage from other shows especially when they were showing all the different media mediums that you can get the CW shows (instead of using the same picture from VD). I think that they will probably release other promos showcasing other shows like they did VD as I mentioned but if they don't then their promoting dept sucks. Usually, the new shows are promoted like crazy
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing this was their Thursday night promo, and they'll make ones for the other days of the week as well.
ReplyDeleteThere was way too much TVD in that promo. I hope that the CW has some more promo's that focus on some other shows too. As for the lack of Supernatural, The CW usually doesn't really have anything in their general promo's Supernatural related so I'm used to it now. It doesn't really bother me anymore but I am surprised that there wasn't more than the 2 seconds at the start. Also I think the new logo sucks! The old one was better IMO.
ReplyDeleteThat was a TVD promo and nothing more. Why do they hate SPN so much? We've only been around for 8 years....
ReplyDeleteOh look! TVD will aired the CW the fall.....
ReplyDelete...
...
Oh wait.....
Bwah! That's kind of what I got out of it too.
ReplyDeleteNo offence but if you like that promo that must mean you're a TDV fan cause otherwise there's nothing here for no shows. Every fans of every others shows has a right to not be happy. Just look at GG, their last season after being the first CW creation to hit #100 and they barely there. The show who has the most clips behind TVD has 2 secs top v.s 30 seconds of vampires.
ReplyDeleteSPN has been the 2nd most rated show on the CW almost all spring and has been 2nd-3rd countless time for many years, going in its 8th season, winner of 2 PC award, including Best Drama, but always being hated by the network (if you don't believe it, just look at the time the mid-season premiere was pushed the DAY before, just the CW wanted to repeat vampires episode of the day before....). The fans have the right to not be happy about being ignored once more
why do they hate all their other shows so much, granted the ratings aren't great but still. Not to mention already showing a lack of faith or interest in their new shows? that's just not good business
ReplyDeleteOK Pedowitz, you are supposed to be changing things over there at the CW. Start with the marketing department. I'm not even going to grouse about the seasons-old 1 second blip of Supernatural. I really don't expect SPN to be marketed from the CW anymore since they count on fans to do that. But here's the deal: We can't save the entire network.
ReplyDeleteYou have several new shows premiering this fall and you know as well as I do that at least 2 of them need to be bigger than Vampire Diaries hits if you want this netlet to last. I understand capitalizing off the VD wins in the Teen Choice Awards, but you have got to promote your new shows. This year and next are your last chance to impress the affiliates before they decide to tell your netlet to take a hike. And without the CW, there is no new Supernatural. So drop the VD-only coverage; it's ratings are tumbling anyway. Over stress the new shows, especially Arrow which has the biggest chance to be a hit. Heck spend all the marketing money on new shows - that should give you at least as much money for the year as 1 week of CBS advertising. I'm not losing SPN because you guys can't promote your own new shows.
That's what completely baffles me about this promo. They have to have hits this season. It's that simple. Why promote a show that already has viewers (although not as much as it did) when you have to have a show that gets better ratings than VD. I expected everything in marketing to be based on new shows. I don't expect SPN to get hardly any promotion at all - they simply don't have the budget. They also don't have the budget to promote a VD heavy campaign if they want to really launch their new shows. I'm hoping this is simply a reaction to VD winning at the Teen Choice Awards earlier and that the real promo will heavily promote Arrow, Carrie Diaries, Cult, Beauty & the Beast, and other one 1 I've already forgotten. Nice work there CW - I can't remember your other shows either anymore.
ReplyDeleteI think people should be crying that new shows have virtually no presence in this promo. Not even the Vampire Diaries will survive if the whole netlet goes bankrupt. They desperately need a new hit and they are not going to get one without massive promotion.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Nikita fan, so I think I'm pretty knowledgeable about being ignored.
ReplyDeleteThe CW doesn't care about promoting SPN because they know they won't bring any viewers/doesn't need to. They did the same with Smallville (and OTH). Come back when they stop issuing new promo pictures - that's usually the beginning of the end.
I don't feel like SPN was really that much promoted the last two years either,
yet it didn't stop them from winning awards, or get a cover. SPN doesn't need it.
TVD, even though I can't really care about it, is their hit. It's the show which is spoken about. I just deal. They won't change it, even though it's really stupid not to promote shows like Nikita and Arrow, which could give some much needed credibility to that soon-to-be dead network.
Exactly! I'm almost hoping we find that this is just the teaser for TCA's and not the real promo.
ReplyDeleteExactly. They're betting everything they have on TVD, while trying to change their image. That's stupid. They need(ed) to show that The CW is not only about 'white pretty rich girls with problems' or 'the Vampire Diaries network.'
ReplyDeleteThis 'TV NOW' bs really ain't cutting it. The web-based strategy won't sustain the network for very long.
And, this is hilarious when you think about the reason behind the very creation of that network.
You could say the exact same thing about the vampires. They don't need to promote it that much. People know it, its the only show they're always promoting
ReplyDeleteIf this is the Thursday promo than that's even worse. Beauty and the Beast is their second biggest new show after Arrow and it's going to need a lot more promo than Arrow does in order to make it. To be frank, their Thursday night promo needs to be all about Beauty and the Beat with a quick teaser of VD.
ReplyDeleteSPN's long past its prime. Consider yourself lucky if you even get a new bumper this season.
ReplyDeleteTVD, even though, not as strong as during its second season, still sells. And since The CW don't seem to have any faith in their new shows, they'll keep pushing it. TVD has been their only hope for the past two years, basically.
Well it's not like they have only one promo in the world. xD They have lots of stuff for the new shows airing on CW right now. If there is only to be one, there is a lot of sexy dark footage from TVD promos, so it doesn't seem that strange to me for them to use it to promote network branding w/ online tie-in and their big Thursday night. No one is going to get online and see what's up with the multimedia/internet stuff for a new show that isn't on the air yet. There won't be anything there for them. So hit up the new online crap with their most established show that has the most potential for both available content and people willing to use it.
ReplyDeleteI won't even complain about the lack of Supernatural.Really, why give money to promote a show when you have the fans doing for you(and better than you)?!
ReplyDeleteHowever, the heavy promotion for Vampire Diaries will not do them any favors in the long run. They're going into their fourth year and the ratings are already dropping.Yes,it's their highest rated show right now,but personally I don't see it going past the six years.
The CW needs to look a little ahead. They have new shows, why not promote the hell out of them?People are already excited for Arrow and the CW hasn't had a highly anticipated new show since VD started.Doesn't take a genius to figure out what they need to do.
I have the feeling that they're always waiting to see how a show will do and THEN start promoting it.Hasn't worked for them so far.
not really a good promo for the cw network overall and not even a good one for vampire diaries anyways!
ReplyDeleteSeriously! How much Vampire Diaries can you put on a promo that's supposed to be for all the CW shows?! If someone told me that TVD would air every freaking day of the week I would believe them!
ReplyDeleteI don't want to belabor a point that I'm sure has been made a thousand times below, but from this promo you'd think that The Vampire Diaries was the only show that exists on the CW. Ah, well. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it's just one of five promos? Maybe this is the one they'll show in preparation for Thursdays.
ReplyDeleteWell, if you didn't blink you actually a glimpse of Jensen sitting on the floor at the foot of the bed from last season's promo pics. So Vampire Diaries gets picked by a bunch of preteens and they are the big thing now? What about The Peoples' Choice Awards which is much bigger? It was found out that someone at the CW wouldn't let the boys go pick up their awards. How nice of them. That was before Pedowitz had complete control. They were still under all the junk the last president did, Still....this sucks eggs. I am really beginning to detest Vampire Diaries.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get confirmation that the CW wouldn't let J and J pick up their awards? I heard over and over again that the People's Choice Award committee decided not to air those awards. It would make absolutely no sense at all for a netlet to turn down free publicity no matter what was being showcased.
ReplyDeleteWow that was a lot of TVD but Im a TVD fan so it didn't really bother me but would still like to see SPN
ReplyDeleteLeave Nikita out of it because it only received a few seconds more that SPN. The discussion here is TVD so stick with that. Nikita virtually had no promotion at all during its entire Season 2 run(and I know this because I watched 9O21O, OTH, SPN, TVD and TSC during 11-12 and I saw none for Nikita). The only notable promotion Nikita received from The CW was during the last few weeks before the Season 2 finale(I assumed that they had already made up their mind that they were going to renew it) on sites such as Deadline/Variety.
ReplyDeleteEven during the Summer Promo, there's like two clips of Nikita and all you see is TVD, SPN and their new summer shows.
Point here is I completely agree that TVD received all the excessive promotion here but SPN fans should at least be humble that the show has been upgraded to a cushy slot behind the networks new sure to be next hit. If it were up to me, I would've left SPN(an already aging show) right where it was and done a bold move by premiering B&tB/CULT behind Arrow to try to gain more than one hit show.
Anyway, I hope Pedowitz isn't stupid enough to leave SPN on Wednesday after more than one season. If Arrow turns out to be a hit, hopefully he'll move SPN out of there and use Arrow as a launch pad the way TVD is used.
GOSPEL! :)
ReplyDeleteCW thanked you fans by moving your show to Wednesdays after their new high profile series. Appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe The CW is still using the same Gossip Girl promo videos and images. They're from season 3. So ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural is on season 8, they really don't need any promotion to succeed. As a matter of fact, neither does TVD.
ReplyDeleteThe CW should be focused on promoting all of their new shows instead of only their highest rated show.
Same! LMAO! XD
ReplyDeleteA very practical and down to earth look at things.
ReplyDeleteThe CW should be concentrating on their new shows as you say, and trying to stoke up interest in them.
In my opinion their new shows have a good chance of doing well if they get the right send off, even the ones that have been a bit criticised like Beauty and the Beast and Emily Owens.
I can see them appealing to certain areas of the public, and as they are new the viewers will tune in for curiosity if nothing else
That's why I believe the pilot episode of a show is the most important and should be well thought out and engaging, for just as in everything else, first impressions are really important, and if viewers get immediately caught up in the story they are more liable to hang around.
It would seem that the mentality in the marketing department of the CW has remained that of before, concentrating all on one show to the detriment of the others, as they did with Gossip Girl.
As for the logo, I find it cold, unappealing and too geometrical. The old one was better.
I think this was aimed to be a Vampire Diaries only promo and not a general one as the title of the post suggests, and the CW was smart to feature an intro and outro with glimpses of all the shows they air.
ReplyDeleteThey know they are sinking fast and by featuring all shows in a show-specific promo they are probably hoping to cross over some fans.
Promos for other shows will probably follow.
The discussion is about the trailer and Supernatural got less screentime than Nikita. That's an observation, not a hit at Nikita. I like Nikita, but its ratings were worse than Supernatural and Supernatural fans tend to be very observant when the show doesn't get promotion, so I thought it was an unusual choice. What I really thought was odd was that the new shows didn't get much promotion in this either.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to have something against Supernatural, which fine, not everybody likes the same thing. But I wasn't being offensive about Nikita, simply stating a fact.
At that time SV and SPN shouldn't have been moved to Fridays in the first place. But whats done is done, they just need to start promoting the new shows ASAP. In TVD is not much storyline now it's just sex sex sex so im dropping the show.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I don't depend on network promos to get me to watch a network. Cause I did NOT like this one.
ReplyDeleteI suspect this was made for TCA...which, personally I think only underlines your basic point. Add to that the fact that the way to capitalize on the popularity of TVD is to run promos for your new show DURING TVD. I've noticed an annoying trend this season to promo shows I am currently watching WHILE I'M WATCHING IT. What is that about? Do you think the teens you're after are so vacuous that they've forgotten what they're watching once you near the end of a commercial break?
ReplyDelete"That's why I believe the pilot episode of a show is the most important and should be well thought out and engaging, for just as in everything else, first impressions are really important,"
ReplyDeleteYou'd think that would always be the attitude and requirement to get *past* the pilot stage, but too much of the time pilot episodes are really weak.
(I went back and re-watched the pilot for TVD...it was horrible. Sadly I was trying to convince a friend to start watching. Instead she became convinced I'd lost my mind. I've got a pretty good idea of how and why that happened...but that's a different rambling post.)
Not surprising that they forgot about the Best Drama award since CBS didn't even have the respect to present it on air.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't make any sense at all for a network struggling to actively block attempts to win an award of any kind.
ReplyDeleteI did not get hooked on TVD until ep 5, after Elena found out they were Vampires. SPN, Veronica Mars and Roswell all got me with the first ep.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally agree ;)
ReplyDeleteMoving SPN and SV to Fridays proved to be a good move (since they knew they wouldn't attract new viewers) and allowed them to focus on their other shows. Too bad, it didn't work too well for the latter... I think they should tone down the TVD pimping and promote shows Nikita and Arrow (for the credibility) and B&TB and Cult (for that WB's nostalgia factor.) I don't care about 90210 and GG (which belong to the past, in my opinion.)
ReplyDeleteAs for Hart of Dixie, The Carrie Diaries and Emily Owens, MD... they belong to ABC Family.
After SPN & TVD, Hart of Dixie was my next favorite show, looking forward to Arrow and B&TB. Will try Carrie and Emily at least 2 times each.
ReplyDeleteYou do realize that Nikita received a millisecond more than Supernatural right? I can't believe how immature/insecure you are because Nikita got half a second more. You're basically saying that just because Nikita rates lower, it shouldn't receive promotion. News flash buddy, my show didn't get any support/prmotion for The CW all Season long. We were shipped off to Fridays after a rocky first season to die but in the end, we basically matched all three of their freshman dramas of the 11-12 season. So if they finally decide to add a bit to their Fall promo, then I don't see anything wrong with that.
ReplyDeleteI'll tell you the honest truth, I don't have a problem with Supernatural; it's the fans that I have a problem with. Most SPN fans feels as if SPN is the only show on The CW and that really irks me. No matter what The CW does, it's never enough.
I am so sick of Vampire Diaries. The whole basic premise robbed from Supernatural if you look at the background.
ReplyDeleteTVD is my 2nd favorite show, after SPN of course. My only complaint is I think they are getting to many characters, that was my fault with Secret Circle, well that and I just did not connect with any of the characters. One of the reasons I like SPN so much is it is about 2 brothers with very few other characters.
ReplyDeleteI never made it past season 1 of Vampire Diaries but you can't say that it is robbing from Supernatural. There is very little in common besides the supernatural and the entire story framework is taken from the book series by LJ Smith. Books I read in high school, before Kripke even started his concept for Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteI did not read TVD books until after season 1, they had the first book on audio in the bonus material for the DVDs. Books are not any where near as good as the series.
ReplyDeleteStupid, they should have hired a better PR firm to give them a better representative demo focus group b/c that is just a stupid slogan
ReplyDelete
