  1. I love that Mark Pedowitz seems like a big SPN stan. Awesome!

    Can't wait for season eight!

    ReplyDelete
  2. ;) It must be cause of his name, you can't be a ''Mark'' and not be awesome...at least in the SPN univers

    ReplyDelete
  3. I like the idea of Benny and Amelia but I'm skeptical as to whether or not SPN will adequately follow through on the promise of these new characters.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I've been avoiding a lot of the pre-season publicity/promises because I'm still suffering the sting of the Campbell promise.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I am guessing that a lot of time has passed since Dean and Cas left earth when season 8 starts back up.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I WAS EXPECTING GWEN TO STICK AROUND. I was so disappointed that she died.

    ReplyDelete
  7. if I may ask, what is a SPN "stan"? :-)

  8. Those spoilers have just confirmed all my previous fears for this season that had already
    blossomed with the earlier spoilers.
I am rather freaked out for my favourite brothers.
This is all going in the exact opposite direction as to what I would have wanted!

["Benny will be a significant presence in Dean's life this season, as Dean is indebted to him for the Purgatory escape. As for whether Dean will be proud of Sam for moving on with his life or frustrated that Sam gave up on finding him, Carver teases, "It's a little bit of both."]

This final comment says everything I didn't want to hear.
Sam effectively does give up on Dean and Dean feels hurt, which is perfectly understandable for I would be too.
If being more mature means caring less for each other's well-being, then I prefer them infantile.

I had hoped that it would be Sam who got Dean out of Hell, so reinforcing their brotherly bond and hunting partnership; becoming once again the heroes that they are, and going back to hunting down evil together, stronger than before!
But no, we're going to get mountains of angst and whys and wherefores.

Also the fact that Sam is going to get a love affair does not guarantee in any way that it will be interesting for him or develop his character. It could go the same way as Lisa/Dean, and in the end be only an excuse to get him to take his shirt off.

As for Dean, his story seems to be going the same way as the Sam/Ruby one.
Ruby saved Sam's life and even although he was reluctant to accept any help from her knowing that she was a demon, he eventually did.
Benny might save his life and Dean will reluctantly accept his help to get out of Purgatory, just to find himself in an ambiguous relationship with him, as Sam was with Ruby.

Carver says that Benny will be a significant presence in Dean's life this season, so that sounds as if Castiel has little interaction with Dean, maybe concentrating his attention on Heaven again.

It makes me smile a little however, how Sam usually gets paired with a woman while Dean gets a guy as his confident! :)

  9. they still havent confirmed how long its been, the rumours were a year

    ReplyDelete
  10. I think it sounds great on paper any way. Most interested in Sam and Amelia this season, I'd like for the writers to get this storyline right.

Benny and Dean sounds interesting too, he's not the big bad but he sounds like he's going to be trouble or at least I expect him to cause trouble. Just hope they don't make him a good guy in the end.

The whole Dean/Sam argument doesn't bother me at all, if Dean is both frustrated and proud of Sam for getting out of hunting then he cant be too peeved about it and he cant hold it against him for long especially if they're working together again so quickly after being reunited.

    ReplyDelete
  11. "As for whether Dean will be proud of Sam for moving on with his life or
frustrated that Sam gave up on finding him"
I hope this means that Sam did look for him, but EVENTUALLY gave up. I can live with that. My biggest problem would be if Sam didn't even TRY looking for Dean.

    ReplyDelete
  12. We definitely don't see eye to eye on this one. :)

Even if Dean does forgive Sam quickly, and we don't know if he does because even if they are working together again, anything could have happened before that moment as there is the time lapse to consider.

However it does nothing positive for Sam's character to have abandoned the search for his brother.

I could never go with the fact that a smart expert guy like Sam doesn't suspect where Dean is, or what to do to find out. Even Bela knew to resort to seances to get answers.

By not searching for Dean, the writers are making him negate the caring he has for his brother. The only way I could have been good with it is if Sam had lost his memory or something.

As for the Amelia/ Sam thing, I'm not interested at all.

Sam didn't need to be paired off with someone to show his worth.

If the writers had wanted to give us more Sam, they had many opportunities to do so without playing the romance card, already done with Ruby and Jess for that matter, and for Dean with Lisa.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I have not read anywhere that Sam did not try and find Dean, remember when Dean was in Hell for 4 months Sam tried every thing to get him back and nothing worked. He was moving on and that was just 4 months, this time he does not even know where he is and it has been even longer.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm excited about this season, but just get on with it, this has been the longest break and it has only been a little over 2 months. Still over 2 to go and I am climbing the walls. Need more polls to play with. lol

    ReplyDelete
  15. Maybe so, but the Sam of season eight is not the Sam of Season three.

Then they didn't even know that Heaven existed, let alone Purgatory so I would think that Sam would know much more now than he did then.
This could have been the moment for him to succeed in helping his brother, mirroring the six months that he went all out to track down the Trickster and finally suceeded in geting Dean back.

The writers obviously want this angsty separation so as to follow the two different story-lines, one for Dean and one for Sam, in order to introduce these new characters of Benny and Amelia, for if they had wanted Sam to rescue his brother they would have had no trouble finding a way.

In season three the boys tried everything to get Dean out of his deal and failed, but in Weekend At Bobby's where the writers did want Bobby out of his deal, they had no trouble coming up with an idea.

    ReplyDelete
  16. All I am saying is give the show a chance, before not liking it. I will not judge it before seeing an ep, then I may not like it...PLEASE no Ghostfacers ever again. lol

    ReplyDelete
  17. Given what he says about Sam's relationship with Amelia and what state he's is in when he meets her, it sounds to me like that's the case, so really happy about it. I'm realloy interested now on Amelia and how she helps Sam.

    ReplyDelete
  18. You're right , of course, i shouldn't judge until it airs and in I will always follow it until the very last episode anyway, but if I criticise some things it's because I want the show to be the very best it can be, and not lose itself in details.

All I ask is that they keep the brothers at the heart of the show, on good terms with one another, and that they go back to being the intelligent and crafty hunters that they once were. After that the writers can do as they wish. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Check all my comments on any website. Right since the comic con, I always said, Sam would eventually give up. You guys out of love for you little Sammy, were really terrified about his character being messed up.

P.S.:I am not boasting about myself!

    ReplyDelete
  20. With you 100% on this, the show is about FAMILY and that is Sam & Dean working together. Like any family, not always happy with each other, but at least there for the other.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It hasn't been confirm? really? Pretty sure it was the actors and/or the producer who told about the 'one year' thing at Comic con

    ReplyDelete
  22. dont get bitchy with me love, Jeremy Carver said they didnt have a time line on it. It was Jensen who said a year. I'll stick with what JC says for now.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 0_o don't bite my head off it was a real question, jeez, cause I remember hearing this in a couple of article and in Comic Con and maybe once before Comic Con, not sure when or where

You don't need to call me name for asking....

    ReplyDelete
  24. Before season six there was much talk in the pre-season press about the Winchester boys discovering that they were part of this hunters family dynasty (The Campbells). The Campbells came over with the pilgrims and were great hunters who'd been protecting the world for more than a century. All of this led me to believe that they were going to be part of a new myth arc that would have to do with the Campbells. That Sam and Dean would bond with a new family.

Instead what we got was easily killed cannon fodder. Dean didn't trust their Grandfather for a minute and Samuel turned out to be a traitor who cared so little about his grand kids that he was willing to feed them to the monsters. And all that knowledge...turned out to be a library they only visited once.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jared himself said that Sam would give up looking for Dean, but I don't have to like it. Sam's character has been messed up enough.

I love both Sam and Dean, and when one of them does something negative it always affects the other brother too.
We will just have to wait for the episodes to see what happens.

    ReplyDelete
  26. He said Sam would stop looking but he didnt say when he would stop.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I liked the Ghostfacers once upon a time but I honestly dont think they are needed any more, if the writers want goofy humour they have Garth or Cas or even Dean.

    ReplyDelete
  28. your tone suggested it was you who was biting my head off

    ReplyDelete
  29. tvmonkey
He also said that Sam didn't know where Dean was, which is strange as they were on a Purgatory / Leviathan spree, so logic dictates that's where Dean would be.

Anyway, I suppose it all depends on the time lapse, but even if Sam searched for a year and more before giving up, it just doesn't go with the way I see Sam. I find it strange that he would stop without knowing exactly what happened to his brother.

This is obviously the way the writers want it to play out so as to follow on with their individual story-lines, but unless there is some really serious reason for Sam to have given up looking, it still puts him in a bad light and I don't like that.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm not sure why I can't stand them, maybe because I hate grown men that act so dumb. They just turn me off so badly.

    ReplyDelete
  31. ^^; if I was really trying to be bitchy it would've been a *big* fail from me to say that my ''proof'' is from someone...somewhere...that I can't remember exactly. That would've been 101 how to look stupid and easy to destroy.

I can't remember where, but I remember an article before CC saying that cause I remember what they said that at CC, I was like ''ah come on, I want to hear something we haven't before'', and everyone was(and is) talking about one year here. So i was really surprise to hear you saying its just a rumor. Unless the 3 time its was always Jensen saying that, I don't know, maybe. Too lazy to go check all the Q&A and the pannel again

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wow, I don't think this season is going to be all that good. I'm not interested in the Sam-Amelia relationhip, at all. Sam said a few seasons back that he no longer cared for a normal life, he'd outgrown it. (I think this was season four) I can't believe he stopped looking for Dean. It casts him in a negative light, at least in my point of view. This show is about two brothers, they are always there for each other. I hope Misha's eight episodes are significant.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wolfnight.
I agree with just about all of your comments.

I believe in season six Sam also said that although he had wanted Dean to go live the apple appie life, maybe it hadn't been such a good idea, as monsters would always come after them and put any loved ones in danger; something that actually did happen, so it's strange that Sam would turn around and do the same thing.

There's no doubt that Sam giving up on looking for his brother casts him in a bad light, unless there is some underlying reason we don't know of that explains it.

Ditto for Amelia, I'm so not interested.

However none of this precludes the fact that the season could be a thrilling one, we'll just have to wait and see. :)

My only fear is that with all these new recurring characters coming onto the show ( add recently mentioned co-ed to the list ), it might mean we get less Winchester brothers on-screen, in order to leave time to explore the guest stars' back-stories. :(

    ReplyDelete
  34. It'll be interesting how they play the monster knowing the way out. Why would he still be there? Is he a soul or a solid being? Maybe he was the Alpha Vamp's Girl Friday. Being the secretary to the Alpha Vamp has its privileges. But then Eleanor got out when Lovecraft opened a portal from this side. Maybe someone on Earth gets frisky and opens it?

    AHHH HELL, It's almost October!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Too many people ready to jump off the ole bridge already.

    ReplyDelete
  36. ScottA
Could be that Purgatory has some sort of equivalent to the "Devil's Gate" that Hell has, and maybe this Benny guy just recently found it or how to open it, so taking Dean out with him

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh, I hadn't even thought of that! I love scenes about Dean and Sam's brother-ness. That's the show's foundation, and my favorite part. I won't enjoy it either if they were 'put aside' a bit in order to establish the new characters.
Yeah, this season could be great, but I didn't like most of season 7(though I will admit I did love some of its episodes) So I'm wondering if season 8 will be the same. Though, with Gamble stepping down the show might change. I just didn't dare get my hopes up as soon as I read about Sam going back to a normal life, getting romantic with Amelia and stopping his search for Dean.

    ReplyDelete
  38. NO it is NOT almost Oct, it seems to be getting further away instead of closer. lol This has been the longest 2 months and still over 2 to go.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wow I am really looking forward to these stories being told. See how Sam grows and changes with Amelia in his life. I don't have a problem with Sam giving up on finding Dean, because I am sure he looked for a way, but just couldn't find it. Just like in season 4, when he couldn't find a way to get Dean out of Hell and had to give up then as well. Sam has always found a way to move on without Dean in his life. Right from the beginning the show, Sam was separate from Dean when the series began. Though it wasnn't easy for him without Dean, after Dean went to hell, he moved on then as well. So I don't find him moving on while Dean is purgatory all that unusual for Sam.
I am also intrigued by this Benny character. How does he get Dean out of purgatory? Why does he get Dean out of purgatory?
I don't get all the negativity before the season even starts. However I never got all the negativity during seasons 6 and 7 either. I haven't had a problem with either season and as I watch the repeats of season 7, I am enjoying even more the second time around.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Be willing to bet it is not that simple or why would Benny even be bothering with Dean. I think he NEEDS Dean to help open what ever they use to get out.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I would presume that Benny is dead and therefore in soul form in Purgatory.
If Dean's in in Purgarory body and soul, maybe Benny has to temporarily possess him to get his soul out, just as Eleanor had to possess the chamber-maid in Lovecraft's house.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have watched every season more times than I can remember, and you are right, it gets better with each viewing. I still see or hear things I missed before. This show just does not get old for me and I am looking forward to s8.

I have been saying that the way Sam seems to be acting is nothing new for him, you can only look for someone just so long before you have to try and live your life. Dean did the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  43. That is as good a guess as any I have read, you may be on to something.

    ReplyDelete
  44. if it goes down that way, perhaps what Benny does while occupying Dean's body once out of Purgatory, until he finds one of his own, is part of the obscure secret that Benny and Dean share.
Has it been said what kind of monster he is, I wonder?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I don't think anyone has said what kind of monster he is, but I am really liking your thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  46. That's good. It would even lead to some Dean-on-Dean conflict as I think he would be very hesitant about letting something evil possess him. You also made me think about what a monster's soul looks like, if a human's is a ball of blinding white light.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Just had a thought occur to me. I can't remember but did the chamber maid at Lovecraft's get possessed in Purgatory or did the soul pass through the portal and possess in this world?

    ReplyDelete
  48. She got possessed at Lovecraft's party. Most of the guests thought that nothing happened, but her son knew that a monster had escaped because his mother had changed.

    ReplyDelete
  49. "I believe in season six Sam also said that although he had wanted Dean to go live the apple appie life, maybe it hadn't been such a good idea, as monsters would always come after them and put any loved ones in danger; something that actually did happen, so it's strange that Sam would turn around and do the same thing."

That was soulless Sam, I believe. Souled Sam wanted Dean to find happiness if he could and he was upset when Dean cut Lisa and Ben permanently out of his life by having their memories erased.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I always took Sam's comments about no longer caring about a normal life as resignation to his fate. He knew Lucifer wasn't going to let him go and that anyone who got in the way would just get hurt. Since Lucifer appears to be safely locked away now, and there's no demon around burning Sam's girlfriends on the ceiling anymore, it raises the question of what Sam really wants now that his "destiny" is behind him.

    ReplyDelete
  51. ScottA
Lending this Benny guy his body is the only logical way that I can see it going.
We don't know if Castiel has run off or if he helps Dean, but if Dean does find himself alone and defenceless in Purgatory with a herd of vindictive monsters after him, his body is the only bargaining tool he has.
So maybe Benny protects Dean in exchange for a piggy-back ride out of Purgatory.
Interesting question about a monster soul. I was pretty surprised when they pulled out the idea of monsters having souls in the first place but whatever!
It's probably just a different colour or something.:)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yes, I believe it was soulless Sam, but it was still good advice.
The brothers have made too many enemies and there was always going to be danger to any person who got near to them, starting with Jessica, and of course it happened to Lisa and Ben too.
I think however what Dean did was wrong. Lisa had a right to her memories and as everone else still remembers, bad guys incuded, I really can't see what benefits Lisa and Ben have had from that action.

Naturally normal Sam would want Dean to be happy, for it was he who made Dean promise to go for the apple-pie life, but for seven seasons now we have been shown that each brother is never truly happy far from the other's side. In fact at the first sight of Sam, Dean was ready to bail out on Lisa instantaneously
Lisa herself said that they had a tangled -up relationship, and she should know having lived with Dean for over a year.

    ReplyDelete
  53. But Sam also said it in season four, before they even knew that Lucifer wanted him for his vessel. And as isleofskye mentioned, he also said something similar in season 6 after Lucifer had been locked away.
Still going to watch of course, even if the show does go down hill.

    ReplyDelete
  54. But even before he knew about Lucifer, he knew that he was being targeted by the demon that killed his mother. He's known that since Jess died, and he pulled away from Sarah in season 1 for that very reason - that people around him tend to die. YED, Lucifer, and the family pressure to hunt is all gone now, and Sam understands now the reason that the people around him were targeted. He also knows that that danger has passed. Sam may decide that he likes hunting, but this would be the first time since he was at Stanford that he would feel that he had a real choice about it.

    ReplyDelete
  55. We know that they'll always be in danger because they're the main characters of a show called Supernatural, but in their world, there's some logic to disappearing off the grid and starting over if that's what they wanted to do. They managed to hide from the Leviathans for a year with new IDs, so it's reasonable that Sam or Dean could choose to disappear if they really wanted to - especially now that they don't have any emotional ties left behind from their old life who could be used against them. Also, Sam and Dean are pretty adept at protecting themselves (and the people around them) if something found them and came after them.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hmm... There is still the issue of Crowley and
other demons in general. still being out there, and are able to strike when ever they feel like it. Sam should know that. I think Sam should have learned that after Azazel and
Meg, Lilith and Ruby, Lucifer and Crowley, and the overall threat of the
Supernatural, such as demons, which know the brothers very well, that he'd just
put anyone close to him in danger and that he couldn't just back out from
    hunting.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Also remember when the season starts we only see Amelia in flash backs, so maybe they have already broken up, or she is dead. I know they said she "may" show up in real time, but that could also be "maybe not". This is SPN after all.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I think Sam and Dean will always have enemies and there are no guarantees that despite all the precautions, those enemies won't find them. But does that mean that they can never get close to anyone ever again? With Dean there was the issue of raising a kid in the hunting lifestyle, but if we're just talking about another consenting adult, that's different.

As for quitting hunting, quitting doesn't mean that Sam suddenly wouldn't be able to protect himself, so quitting is easy. He just stops looking for new jobs.

    ReplyDelete
  59. It sounds like they have broken up by the start of the first episode. I don't understand how this applies to the question of whether Sam would have wanted to pursue a non-hunting relationship or get out of the life.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Sam has wanted out from the start, his happiest memories were when away from hunting.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I still think Zachariah rigged Heaven's memories to drive the brothers apart even further. I truly don't think those were Sam's happiest memories. Why would Dean's happiest memory be his parents' fighting and him taking care of Mary? It makes no sense.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Dean's memories were of family, Sam's were not. Zachariah did not make Sam run away from family every time he did it. But saying that, Sam did have a right to try and live his life away from hunting, he even told his teacher he did not want to go into the family business. Dean always has put family first.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yes Sam had the right but that right was trashed .Sam wanting a life different from hunting was not a crime but a natural development but the show didnt end up painting that way.In all things there is two sides not just Dean's side but there was a Sam side .The night he left for Stanford? was not just about how it hurt Dean but the other side that that was the night his family let him down and a father who rejected him for wanting 'normal'.

But that is the problem and has been for a long time Dean is seen has being about family while Sam was not and in wanting to forge his own path was demonised for it.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Come on of course he did. lt's Sam. I don't get why people are concerned. Why do people think he wouldn't?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Yeah, but I can't help remembering in season 4 when Sam says he wants to 'cut the head off the snake'(kill Lilith) but Dean says the problem is the snake has a million heads then says 'It either ends bloody or it ends sad' that there is no happy ending for guys like them.
