Though details are sketchy, Tom's character -- which could be become recurring -- is described as an "intense" and "overbearing" mother to one of the characters on the show. Her introduction to the Supernatural world is said to be dramatic.
She is expected to begin filming in Vancouver in the next couple of days.

ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Lauren Tom on TV since her episode of The Closer and that was five years or so ago. Anyway, I always did enjoy her in all the roles I saw her play (Bad Santa is a particular favorite) so I approve.

ReplyDeleteUsually when they can't have an actor/actress back, for a human character, they write around that character. Like with Missouri; they created Bobby instead. With a demon, like Ruby, its easy to change actress/body, with a human character, it will just give more reasons for people to complain ^^;

ReplyDeleteThey probably didn't originally intend for Kevin's mom to be a recurring role. So when they decided it would be, they had to recast because they needed something different from the actress. Like with Bobby's wife - the first actress they cast just needed to be creepy. But then they needed someone to deliver actual dialogue and be all sweet and loveable, so they recast.

ReplyDeleteI'm confuse with your theory that maybe they didn't intended her to be recurring. After all she appeared in the last episodes of S7 and it look this ''New'' character is coming soon in S8 (not like the 2 years between the 2 bobby's wife). They knew they wanted to make Kevin an important part for the next season, and they didn't think about her mom?
Anyway, we'll see what happened^^; Its possible I guess. if its really her, I'm not impatient about all the complains that will create ><

ReplyDeleteYes, but it was a bit part. It's not unusual for different actors to come in and take over a part without anything being officially said about it. I've seen it more frequently when that part was minor initially and is being revisited in a more significant fashion.
ReplyDeleteShoot there have been shows that have brought back the same actor to play a different character in subsequent seasons. Supernatural's done that at least once.
