Thanks to KS Winchester for the heads up.
While promoting his new show on FX, Legit, at the TCA Summer Press Tour, Qualls confirmed he'll be heading back to Vancouver in a few weeks for another adventure as supernatural hunter, Garth Fitzgerald IV.
"I'll go back to Supernatural in a couple of weeks. It's one of my favorite shows to moonlight on. Jared Padalecki is a really good buddy of mine and also they wrote the part for me. "

Big sigh. And I thought his new series was going to keep him busy. At least the episode will probably be funny. Just NO MORE SOCK PUPPETS EVER!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat!!!! Now I want more Charlie and Sheriff!
ReplyDeleteMr. Fizzles !!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMr Fizzles - salted and burned!!!!
ReplyDeleteMmm. .
ReplyDeleteWhile I like the character of Garth, and the actor who plays him, I would rather the writers concentrated on giving us good stories, and getting the guest stars in when necessary to that particular episode, and not start writing them in just to have them on the show.
We are already getting Jensen's father whose role I can imagine was written in for him too, even if it will only be a walk-on or something.
Oh, Garth!! Welcome!! XD I love this guy so much. *do not kill him!*
ReplyDeleteWelcome to SpoilerTV. Glad to have you.
ReplyDeleteI love Garth. Especially since he hasn't been overexposed the way Bobby and Castiel have been.
ReplyDeleteYay, Garth! He's always so much fun:)
ReplyDeleteI agree the Mr.Fizzles scene was the worst thing supernatural has ever done and it made me hate Garth.I hope that they will think a better story for him this season because SSTFAW and POG were horrible.
ReplyDeleteGarth is definitely one of my favorite recurring characters (that's alive), he's always fun!
ReplyDeleteI actually liked Garth. He showed the boys how to enjoy being a hunter. To treat themselves right. They used to enjoy life a little. As Chuck mentioned in Swan Song, they drove across the country for a rock concert or a ball game. It's become too serious for them. They need some of that back.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with that.
ReplyDeleteI'll probably skip the episode as it looks like it will be another pointless filler.
Ugh, Garth. I dislike that character so much. Why has he to come back? I'm so going to not watch that episode.
ReplyDeleteI never skip one, as even the ones I have hated usually have some kind of good brother moments in them.
ReplyDeleteI also have enjoyed Garth, just not the sock puppet.
ReplyDeleteYay! I love Garth!
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree that they should dedicate more episodes to the season arcs, something that applied especially to season seven, I have to say I enjoy most of the filler episodes, because there have been some really terrific ones, like Tall Tales,
ReplyDeleteMystery Spot, A Very Supernatural Christmas, It's A Terrible Life, Frontierland etc., etc., so I would definitely watch.
What I don't like is writing someone into an episode, whether it be a friend or a relative, just to have them on the show and not because it's a natural evolution of the story-line.
I don't like Garth so this is one of the last things I wanted to hear about S8.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that a bit premature to say? It could be a good episode with a good story. Did I miss the part where it confirmed it will be a filler? Or a ''pointless filler''? Just cause his first two episodes were, doesn't mean its 10000% certain his next will and his next won't be interesting
ReplyDeletethat's why I love Garth :) He's so cute and ''innocent'', just having fun and enjoying life. I like his hugging habit, the boys need hugs ;P
ReplyDeleteYou already know that this isn't going to be a good story and that they aren't focusing on that idea. I love Garth, he made me laugh and I enjoyed the episodes he was in.
ReplyDeleteI agree isleofskye. I didn't care for Garth's episodes in S7 and it sounds like they are just bringing him back for Jared. If he actually has part in the overall arc then I will admit I was wrong. It sounds they are just bringing him in for Jared and just for the hell of it to me which I'm not happy about.
ReplyDeleteHmm...not a big fan of Garth, so this news does not inspire much joy. Neither of his episodes in S7 were fantastic and S7, Time for a Wedding is in my all time bottom 5 Supernatural episodes. Possibly even bottom 3.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome i like his part as Garth very funny glad they are bring him back
ReplyDeleteWell, the longer he's on the more likely it is that he'll grow on me. Probably get used to him just before he dies. xD
ReplyDeleteAly's comment was "it looks like it will be," not he/she is "10000% certain" it will be a filler. Maybe you misread the comment?
ReplyDeleteNot my favorite guest. Maybe he'll just be in a scene or two as Sam or Dean consult with other hunters?
ReplyDeleteIf you just know you'll skip an episode its cause you're pretty sure it will be bad. I just thing its way too early to decide to skip an episode when you have absolutely no clue what it will be about. If someone start something already with a bad opinion, of course its never going to be good^^;
ReplyDeleteThat's because of Becky. Party On, Garth was amazing!
ReplyDeleteAgain, Aly's words were that he/she would "probably skip," not "just know (he or she will) skip." Personally Garth isn't a deal breaker for me, but a lot of us have come to know which types of episodes we enjoy and which we don't. If you weren't enjoying the fillers last season, I don't see anything wrong with deciding to sit them out this year.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how I feel about this, actually. I wasn't a huge fan of him in his first appearance, but I enjoyed him a lot in the second. I guess this will help me decide for good! As long as he doesn't return with the sock puppet, I'll be satisfied.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, I guess I just don't get people who don't give a chance. I mean sure you might haven't like the filler last years, I didn't like a couple of them too like everyone else. but there's nothing saying that next year the fillers won't be better. Sure they can be the same quality, some can be worse, we just don't know 'til we see it
ReplyDeleteI don't know^^; I guess the ''probably'' sounded to me like it was more than a 'maybe', like 60/40. And even if its just 50/50 chance to skip it, with just knowing that one character is in it....You say yourself ''which type of episodes we enjoy'', right now we have absolutely which type of episode it will be. it could be absolutely anything. There's no saying if garth will play a huge part or a small, if its going to be a stand-alone or center around the mai arc, if....anything really^^; Like I said it cuold turn bad, we just have no idea at all yet.
For me the issue with Garth is that I don't care for silly-character comedy. Chuck worked because he was in heavy mythology episodes, but when it feels like episodes, or even the season, is based mostly on silly, then I find myself checking out.
ReplyDeleteI guess we'll have to agree to disagree :)
ReplyDeleteFor me Garth is the ''happy'' side of hunting and not a ''silly-comedy'' character, he's the character who hasn't lost his ''innocence'' (like I told to someone else earlier). He's just enjoying life, enjoying hunting. I think the boys can learn 1 thing or 2 from the way they see things.
WOW you dont like anybody new coming on this show. garth was cool and funny we need funny after the pain of season 7 I hope they give him a good story.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be good to see Garth again.
ReplyDeleteI prefer Charlie. She brought the fun but came across as goofy instead of silly and annoying. I hated the sock puppet. Give me elevator dancing any day.
ReplyDeleteGarth is hilarious.
ReplyDeleteA little disappointed that tptb killed awesome characters like Bobby, Gabriel, Balthazar or Ellen and now have only char like Garth to fill in.
ReplyDeleteNot a big fan but as he seems to be liked by a good part of the fandom, It's fine.
I just can't figure out how Garth has stayed alive this long.
ReplyDeleteHell, Cupid could've killed him with a big ole bear hug.
Bwah!!! Thanks. After watching a kids' dreams get crushed in the Olympics, I needed that laugh.
ReplyDeleteWe don't know that Garth doesn't fit in naturally in the SPN episode--he may fit in perfectly in this episode.
ReplyDeleteTrue.I like Garth and if he is essential to the episode that's fine with me.
ReplyDeleteWhat I don't go with is writing in an extra scene or two just to have a guest star back on the show unecessarily. The money they have to pay him could be used for an extra rock song instead. :)
do not care much about his character, actually. in my opinion that wasn't such fun watching him in the episodes. yeah, i get that seems like jared likes to work with him, but so what? let's bring him back, then?
ReplyDeleteGah, hope he dies before the opening credits.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I could provide one! I do think it is strange that Garth is such a jovial fellow. I would think that other hunters, who put up with much of the same crap as the boys do on a day-to-day basis, would be a little hostile toward them. With the exception of the big bads they've fought the same battles without the help of angels, demons or whatever super-beings that have aligned themselves with the Winchesters. There has to be some resentment among the ranks. Maybe that could be a side note that could be explored if it does get to ten seasons.
ReplyDeleteOr a possible spin-off series?
ReplyDeleteYep. That's a good idea. Personally I would like to see it examining the darker side of hunters.Evil people doing evil things for the good of the people. Kind of like a dark, twisted A-Team.
