Supernatural - Misha Collins previews Season 8

Last we saw Castiel (Misha Collins) on Supernatural he was high-tailing it out of Purgatory, leaving his buddy Dean (Jensen Ackles) behind to face down countless unknown monsters and creatures. But Collins himself didn't get too far-- we caught up with him at the network's parent company TCA party in Los Angeles to find out just when we'll see Castiel again and how he may be different yet again this season.

"Cas is back!" Collins excitedly told us earlier tonight. "We're seeing him in flashback form first, and I think the Cas that we're seeing is more the Cas we got to know in season four and season five. He's a little bit more worldly, a little bit more weary, a little bit more worn than he was before."

Collins shared that he was excited to get back to the basics of Cas in many ways but also to have him be a more mature version of the character than we have perhaps seen, adding a new layer for the actor who has already played quite a few versions of this guy.

"Frankly, my impression this season is that all of the characters are more mature," Collins added. "It kind of makes sense. This show started now eight years ago, and you look at photos of Jared and Jensen eight years ago, and they look very baby-faced! The actors have matured, and so it makes sense that the characters have matured, too."

    the flashback scenes are apparently going to be small but spread out so they are in many episodes. When I say small I mean they don't dominate the episodes as Sam and Dean will actually be on other cases.


    I'm looking forward to seeing how they connect the flashbacks to what else is going on in each episode.

    I'm excited to hear that everyone has matured a bit over the separation. I wonder how much of Castiel will be seen in flash backs versus in the real timeline.

    I like this idea much better, especially if it enhances what Dean and Sam are doing instead of distracts from it.

    I wonder if by saying that this season the characters are all more mature means that we aren't going to get any brotherly moments, jokes or pranks any more.


    As for them no longer being baby -faced, if they ever were; that is all in the eyes of the beholder, as they still look youthful to me, perhaps because they still are!
    I wonder if Mr Collins was baby-faced too eight years ago!


    If we look at the Salvatore brothers the actors are the same ages as Jared and Jensen yet they are playing respectively a seventeen year old and a twenty-five year old, so how does that work?

    I get the feeling Cas starts out in flashback but that later he'll be seen more in present time.

    I don't think it means we won't get any brotherly moments. I think the maturaty means in the way they relate to each other.

    Hopefully what it means is that they are able to communicate better and that they have a better attitude toward hunting so it's not all gloom and doom anymore.

    I see that you have prudently put the word "hopefully" at the beginning of your sentence :)


    I've a feeling that there will be the same amount of gloom and doom as before, if not more, going by the earlier Sam spoilers, for that's the way it has always been on SPN for the last four seasons anyway, and I can't see it changing now.


    I take "more mature" to mean that they will act more as "normal" brothers, perhaps being less affectionate and tied to each other, something I'm not good with, as their co-dependent relationship has been at the core of the show since episode one and that's the way I like it.

    Perhaps,, but I would say that after all they have been through they are already pretty mature.
    They just have a particular relationship brought about by the life and upbringing they have had, which makes them relate to each other more intensely than other brothers would. To change that would change the show.
