Revolution - Season 1 - TCA panel

Jul 25, 2012

Revolution creator Eric Kripke, executive producer Jon Favreau, and stars Giancarlo Esposito, Billy Burke and Tracy Spiridakos sat down to discuss the new show at the TCA press tour. The more I hear about the show the more excited I get. I love that Kripke vows to continue his trademark of giving answers as the show goes along instead of piling question upon question until the show falters under the weight of its own mythology. This is one of my favorite things about Kripke as a show runner. Kripke also said that this show is a much larger cast than Supernatural with relatively equal distribution between male and female parts, including main character Charlie. The show will be a balance between standalone and serialized elements. For more details, check out the following reports. Since all are based on the same panel, there is quite a bit of overlap among them.

  1. I like that Kripke seems to be pulling the best of Supernatural ( except the brothers of course) into this series. It gives me hope that I will really like it. I love the fact that he realizes that ongoing answers are a plus - something many genre PTB do not. I'm good with the show having a somewhat lighter tone and using the event itself in flash backs. I love that they addressed the female issue because while I do not think Supernatural is misogynistic, I would hate for some people's perception that it is to color this show. I love that Charlie, the female main character, is played by someone who does most of her own stunts and has a lot of fight scenes. Another thing I found awesome is that they ran their concept of why there is no elelctiricity by an actual physicist who agrees it is possible. That excites me for 2 reasons - 1. It will hopefully kill the criticism that the show will be scientifically impossible even though we don't know what that reason is yet. 2. It means that they actually have a reason, which is always a good thing in sci fi.

  2. I can't be more excited for this show. I have been waiting for this since I first heard about it.

My only concern are the ratings. I hope it gets at least a second season.

  3. Well I find it interesting that he says it's like Supernatural, but yet with certain changes, as all of those changes are reflective of Abrams works (like strong female characters and an actual mythology-mystery), IMO, except perhaps the fast paceness of this story, although Alcatraz claimed to have the same thing, but didn't have 22 episodes to prove that to us or not.

I am also happy to hear that we should look at it as a story of rebirth, but I also heard that there could be rather large casualties, which suggests that dealing with extenstialism is still apart of this world, but just that we can assume the show is eventually meant to lead us to some kind of happy ending, so we don't have to be too busy arguing about the conclusion. It allows for us to feel energized to go on this adventure with these people!

At any rate though I think everyone on board is trying hard to reach out to their audiences and bring us together, so I think that we have to wait and see what any of us fans of any involved will come away with. But it's been good PR all around!
