  2. Okay, I got to admit, this promo is damn creative and awesome. I can only hope that the show lives up to the hype and that Kripke's involvement does not destroy the show somehow.

  3. Looks good, but this series will be the same disappointment that Falling Skies, good series which focus on relationships between the characters

  7. Here's to hoping this show won't be a disaster like Terra Nova or The Event

  8. Well as it relates to the Olympics and hope I almost liked this promo, but.....
my first reactions upon hearing the "family is all we have left to fight for" line were fear and disappointment. Maybe not in that order!

Even hearing the word "Family" in a genre series like this makes me think of everything I hated about Terra Nova and Falling Skies! The sappy family elements of those shows ruined anything that may have been enjoyable.
Hopefully it is just me over-reacting due to extreme disappointment in the two aforementioned series.

  9. I understand everyone's concern with this, but as I was saying to Mr.Other on another post,

" Fringe, Revolution, and Once Upon A Time are all going to be sudo-dystopian this season, as all three shows will continue (or in Revolutions case start) to promote the importance of family and/or family dynamics in interesting brave new worlds. (advanced tech/people run amuck, magic in a land without, and a lack of tech in land that once had it.)In fact in all 3 cases daughters will be reuniting/trying to reunite with their mothers and other family members. Etta-Olivia, Emma-Snow, Charlie-Rachel. IMO Bad Robot and fellow writers, have yet to fail me in the family saga department. It's one thing I think they do really well!I am not saying it's a garentee or anything, just that I feel good, because I already see familiar family dynamics that I love in so many other BR mytho genre works, as there all dramas in disguise about people and how the world around them effects them....
Cont'd:t's funny, because I didn't think I would like Once Upon A time at all, because I thought it would be too slap-sticky or juvinielle for my tastes, but I was totally wrong and I see again those compelling stories, multiple timeline/periods, and unique characters like that of Bad Robot that I just love, as I feel certain K and H took the stylization BR is known for with them, let alone all the referencing....well except the CGI!!!Like you were saying even in other genre's like Breaking Bad, or Dexter, or Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones all do play with family dynamics a bit, and I think it's that again in relation to the way those realities are presented to us, really work out well in telling deep emotional/psychological human dramas."

  10. It is not family dynamics that annoy me really. I think most people are shaped by their family, blood family or family of friends.

Having a show centered on family drama and having a show based on something else that has family dynamics within are two different things to me. Boardwalk Empire's exploration of "family" was brilliant, but the show was about more than that... much more.

I personally could stand OUaT. I tried for I think 12 episodes and I just disliked more every episode. The show is just not for me at all, but not because of some of the family overtones. I hated how they dealt with the fairy tales, half of the actors, the logic holes,... I won't go on....

I think the reason I loathed Terra Nova was mostly the young kids in the series and their effect on the show. They tried to make it a Family Drama that was suitable for all ages. In the end it felt dumbed down and overly Saccharin to me. Bad writing combined with bad acting just amplified everything.

Falling Skies was not quite like that. There is a lot to like about that series from the VFX to the quality actors and even the child actors do okay. I just found the story to be too family centered without progressing on any other level. I had an interest in humanity overcoming the alien invasion, but not how a family deals with an alien invasion. The scope felt too narrow to me and I was bored,

I do not see Revolution trying to be family friendly like Terra Nova, I also do not see them having so narrow of a scope like Falling Skies either honestly. I do however still fear anytime I hear the "family" buzz word in a promo.

If the show turns out to be a Family Drama taking place in a dystopian society I will lose interest very fast. That is not what I want from Revolution.

Thinking of your love of multiple realities....
Did you ever watch Charlie Jade? I'm not sure it is brilliant TV, but it may be right up your alley....

  11. Let's hope so...

  12. "Family is only we have left to fight for"?That reminds me of Falling Skies and not in a good sense....

  13. Oh! -Never heard of that! I'll check it out!XD (Thanks!)

I know what you mean, but even though it's about family, I don't think it will be different than say something like Alias or Fringe. I think they're trying to get more viewers, so maybe if they advertise it as a show about family, then maybe more people who care about family will tune in, but Kripke has also described it as Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Wizard of Oz, so in that sense, I think there's still going to be quests that aren't just about reuniting with family, but exposing the truths of this reality through the information the family has about what happened. (Miles and Ben I believe are former pre-back out military personal). Additionally I think the show seems like it's meant to explore humanity in terms of control...if it's a better world or not with out energy...is energy the enemy, or are people and their beliefs the enemy? What beliefs are worth "fighting" for?

I agree whole heartedly about Terra Nova. I felt like it didn't go outside it's box enough, often enough to keep me interested in the more episodic plot lines (and I really disliked the dialogue). I am hopeful that this won't be like that...that even who Charlies and Danny's parents are may not be who they thought they are, or should be and that could push to challenge their own motivation, depending on what paths the series could lay out...
