At Ezra’s apartment, Aria makes plans to meet Laurelsomewhere for work and gets a text from Spencer telling her that Mrs. Reynoldsis fine. She tells Ezra that she is considering ditching the job to hang outwith Hanna, but Ezra talks her out of it because “they” need the money, eventhough they don’t live together. They start taking pointless photos with hernew camera, despite the cost of film these days and the fact that they’rebroke.
Elsewhere, Toby talks to Spencer while she looks up AprilRose, until he notices that she’s not paying attention. She complains about schoolwork, then he gets her to make out with him, the same Spoby stuff that happens inpretty much every episode. Toby leaves when Mr. Hastings walks in on them, andhe tells her that her mom is working on Garrett’s case because the police don’tthink the proof they had was solid enough, which means she’ll win the case.Spencer gets mad and stands up, revealing that she had been sittingcross-legged in a skirt in front of both her boyfriend and father. I neverwould have expected such shameless behavior from a prude like Spencer.

On the mean streets of Rosewood, Spencer meets Jason andthey discuss the poor evidence. She tells him that she thinks they can makesure the case doesn’t collapse if he can help her find April Rose. He says shecould have been involved somehow with the NAT Club, which he thinks Ian couldhave been using to get footage for someone else. All the while, Mr. Hastingssits in his car across the street and watches them talk. He later confrontsJason about leaving Spencer alone, to which Jason replies that Mrs. Hastings isdefending Garrett to get back at her own husband, not him. Am I the only onethat doesn’t understand why this makes sense?
At the church, Ted attempts to make awkward small talk withHanna before asking about her mom and telling her about the dance the church ishaving for the volunteers that night. In her head, I assume Hanna thought thata group of people with access to a huge building would have a party at anothervenue, because she poops her pants when Ted tells her it’s at the church. She latersits with Spencer at the grill, and they talk again about how important it is toGarrett’s case that they find April Rose before –A. Hanna suggests Maya wasmurdered because she knew something about Ali’s murder, but they don’t know ifGarrett or –A was in charge.
While Ezra is showering, Aria finds a load of cash in hissock drawer, substantiating her suspicions that he’s secretly a drug dealer. When he gets out of the bathroom, she leaves in a hurry, barely kissing himgoodbye. She meets Hanna and Spencer at the grill, where Hanna tells them that sheand Emily are going to spy on –A in the sanctuary during the party. She thenleaves for the bathroom and asks Spencer to order a side salad for her to “soakup the cheese.” I swear, Spencer’s character is just about the only thing onthis show that helps me believe that all teenagers aren’t this dumb. She asksSpencer about Jason’s cash reward and talks keeping such a stash at homewithout referring to Ezra. Spencer says that people with that much cash areeither waiting for the rapture or doing something illegal.
At the end of the day when Ashley picks Hanna up fromchurch, she reveals that Ted is taking her to the dance that night. Hannafreaks out because she’s also planning to attend, and tells her mom that she’sgoing with Toby to keep another guy away from her.
Even though she said she’d meet Hanna at home/church,impatient Emily goes to find the donation box on her own, and has a flashbackwhen she sees the diner across the street. Was the flashback from ‘that night,’or the 1950’s, because I could have sworn that was Dick Tracy and Tess Trueheartsitting at the bar. She goes in for a meal, and flashes again when she sees theplacemat. She remembers a note saying “I’m sorry I left you,” and someone witha wrist tattoo taking her hand after the waitress tells them she’s going tofaint.
Later, Jason enters through Spencer’s back door and tellsher that April Rose is an antique store. Just because it’s your biologicalfather’s house, doesn’t mean you can just barge in, dude. At the antique store, they Spencer finds an anklet and flashes back to the summer Ali died, when a “friend”gave her the anklet and she swore she would always wear it. She also remembersthat Ali ducked out on their sleepover to get fake ID’s from a female friend, though she doesn’t say that it was the same friend that gave her the jewelery.Jason pays the shopkeeper four hundred dollars for the anklet and they turn itin to the police.

At home, Emily is running late for the party when she gets acall from Hanna, who tells her that Wilden is there. When she gets to theparty, Toby’s already called Hanna out about the other volunteer and left anangry voicemail for Spencer because they weren’t honest with him. Before shefinds Hanna, Emily runs into Holden, who has the same wrist tattoo from herflashback. He tells her that it’s a stamp from a party that switches locations, and he used to see Maya there. She then remembers that the person who helpedher had dark curly hair, which could have been Holden or Lucas.
When Jason finishes at the police station, he tells Spencerthat he told the cops he got an anonymous tip about the anklet. I don’t think theyever tell us whether he knows that the April Rose clue came from the note atthe hospital.
Back at the party, Hanna hides in the sanctuary to wait for –A,and finds Wilden instead. He shows her the real note from the hospital asks herwhy she and the Liars are helping Garrett, but she plays dumb. Did he not hearabout the evidence drama? I also don’t understand why Hanna didn’t plan onwaiting for –A a lot sooner. If –A isn’t Wilden or Holden, “den” she probablymissed him.
When Aria gets home back to Ezra’s after work, shetells him about the awful day she had and doesn’t beat around the bush aboutthe money. He tells her that he sold a car he inherited and the buyer paid incash for tax purposes. Even though he’s embarrassed about being poor, it stilldoesn’t make sense to me why he hasn’t put it in the bank or told her about it.She buys the story, but he looks back at the drawer as though he’s still hidingsomething.

The final scene shows –A reading the newspaper while eatinga bowl of rainbow sherbet. I have no clue if or why his or her treat would besignificant, it’s so random. –A reads in the newspaper that Garrett still isn’toff the hook for Maya’s murder, then circles an ad for a room available forrent. Does this have anything to do with Toby, who’s renovating the room abovethe coffee shop in exchange for room and board?
