Hey all, we're just testing out some new software that we may use for some fun debates/opinion here.
However we need to see how it works in the real world. Please give it a go and please test out the Share on Facebook and/or Twitter if you have an account.
Let us know in the comments your thoughts about this poll and if you have any problems with the software.
Works great for me. I voted and tweeted and shared on Twitter. All seemed to work great
ReplyDeleteThanks for testing
ReplyDeleteDoesn't work for me - I don't get a twitter share option, only a Facebook one and I can't vote anonyously either.
ReplyDeleteDid you get an error message? I tested it and it worked ok
ReplyDeleteSharon Seymour I assume you then voted publicly afterwards
ReplyDeleteYes. When I first voted it showed the vote but did not put my photo on the poll. When I voted publically it showed my photo
ReplyDeleteThanks
ReplyDeleteim not sure if my vote counted, the connect to FB screen poped up but that was it. No confirmation was given to say the vote was received. It could be the computer im on to idk
ReplyDeleteYes. Nielson ratings are so outdated. They should really use figures from where ever possible (iTunes for example).
ReplyDeleteAlso, is this method of voting replacing Polldaddy?
Did you vote publically?
ReplyDeleteIt should say on the widget after you voted something like this

Luke James Farmer No, this is not something that will replace Polldaddy. We're just testing it out to see how/if we can use it in the future.
ReplyDeleteYes. Because that's how I watch tv 95% of the time.
ReplyDeleteI voted, shared on facebook and twitter. Works fine for me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for testing :)
ReplyDeleteWorks fine for me too. Although my preference is to sign in with Twitter, I had no problems signing in with Facebook.
ReplyDeleteSo I have to connect with my Facebook account to vote?
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah, yep I agree it would be better to allow either Facebook and/or Twitter
ReplyDeleteYep, that seems the only option currently
ReplyDeleteMine posted and said I voted yes and than the number voted went up.
ReplyDeleteyes i voted publicly but i did not receive that message
ReplyDeleteCool, perfect ;)
ReplyDeleteOkay, thanks for the reply. I try to keep my TV fandom craziness away from family and friends (I use Twitter for that), so having to have Facebook tie-in is a dealbreaker for me. Not sure if you are looking for feedback like that, but thought I'd let you know.
ReplyDeleteThe new poll looks really snazzy. Good luck.
Thanks, great feedback :)
ReplyDeleteIt worked for me. However, I hate using Facebook as a sign in. It could be a deal breaker for me. Twitter is fine. It is my preferred sign in method, but Facebook makes me uncomfortable.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised they haven't already.
ReplyDeleteI don't like it because I have to sign in through fb and it asks for info. I don't want to give it. Couldn't you use discuss? I don't don't do twitter either.
ReplyDeleteTo answer the poll, yes they should.
ReplyDeleteI didn't use the poll, because I'm not signing up for Facebook. Either provide other authentication options, or use the SpoilerTV signon.
Thanks, currently it only supports Facebook.
ReplyDeleteThat's why we're trying this software. As we state, it's a Test. Currently they don't provide other means of signing on
ReplyDeleteNo no error, it just keeps popping up with the Facebook share window only.
ReplyDeleteYep, that's normal. It still needs to authenticate you but won't post to your Wall or show your photo on the voting the widget.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, do you think anyone would say "No, that'll only hurt the show"...
ReplyDeleteIt's a Test David. Not a real poll.
ReplyDeleteEverything seemed to work good for me.
ReplyDelete.//.THANKS GOD IS ABOUT TIME.//.to take tv rating seriously and fair to all tv production in general the time of speculate is over
ReplyDeleteSooner or later they have to. Almost noone is going to watch tv live in a few years...
ReplyDeleteI don't know if my vote registered. I connected through Facebook, then checked my Facebook wall and there's no record of it. Then my computer informed me that I was not connected to the Internet, but when I hit the back arrow, I wound up here.
ReplyDeleteSo, my opinion. Yes, something needs to be different. I'm not convinced the Nielsen ratings are accurate. The demographic can't be counted, because how would anyone know who is watching? I don't see that as a major problem. I think they just guess a lot anyway.
Yes they should take notice.
ReplyDeleteNo I don't like the new software, I am not a fan of facebook logins for things at all.
Hell yes,Nielson is so antiquated it needs to take into account other factors but i don't know if my vote counted, nothing happened after i clicked?
ReplyDeleteI would love to say yes but I understand why they don't. Until advertisers value those numbers the networks never will. They make tv to make money and if the people who supply them with that money don't care I don't think the networks ever will. It's definitely a hard question for networks to consider because it shows a fan base at times, but at other times it shows money that could be made if people watched it live.
ReplyDeleteAlso I like this system. Votes went through fine and I think it helps spur discussion as people can see what certain people voted for. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I try to vote is says I need facebook in order for it to count? If that is true then I think you should scrap this new voting system. I don't like people having access to my facebook and I'm sure others feel the same. Some people might not even have facebook at all. Are you trying to get less people to vote becuase that's what it seems like.
ReplyDeleteI like the concept. However, it requires Facebook. I won't sign up for Facebook. I let you guys woo me into getting twitter account but facebook is a line in the sand. :-)
ReplyDeleteNo. Unless broadcast networks can find a better way of profiting from time-shifted viewership then DVR & +7 numbers will continue to mean little to networks.
ReplyDeleteI'm on a mobile phone, and this isn't very mobile friendly. The yes/no buttons don't shrink to the size of the viewing area. I also wouldn't participate in something that required me to be logged into social media. I have professional contacts connected to me on Facebook and they don't need to know about my time on a tv website.
ReplyDeleteAs for the poll question, the issue is that these other viewing methods allow people to skip past the ads, right? If people bypass the ads, those numbers are nice to know but they shouldnt be the official metric. I think the real problem is that people expect something for nothing. People who wouldn't steal or slip into a movie theater without paying admission have no problem blocking the ads.
